I haven't heard any criticisms? He has really come into his own in midlife with some brilliant acting, and his interviews are so witty, wasn't a fan in his younger years with the typecast foppish young upper class brit but now, wow, just awesome talent, intellect and humour, a big fan.
He is a very witty and smart person, and clearly a hard working and talented actor, but I think what makes him so great is how honest he is and how deeply he understands the human condition
The thing I've noticed about Hugh that I haven't really seen in any other actor that's been around for a while, is growth not just as an actor but as a person. He's always been erudite and witty, but he's just more comfortable with himself now. I think that's helped his acting and given him range. It's lovely to see.
Agree, he didn’t really seem to act much in those romcom films, but has branched out in recent years ( he’s great in Paddington 2, and the tv series A very English Scandal for example)
That scene was creative and unique; memorable for me as well. Notting hill still stands out as one of my favorite movies. (( 🤍Julia + Hugh together 🤍 )) 😊
I’m loving Hugh in his older phase, he’s taking roles where he gets to explore weird and whimsical characters. He’s a much better actor than many have him credit for in the late 90s/early 2000s
I ignore viewers who sell fine actors short, for they show themselves too ignorant to be taken seriously. If a critic sells a fine actor short, I despise them for taking themselves too seriously to give proper credit, when it's due. I thereby find I can safely set aside bad criticism, one sort for being ignorant and amateurish, the other sort for being disingenuous and corrupt.
C 10 years ago I couldn’t bear this guy and refused to watch any of his films. I’ve still not seen them but I might now as he spears mellow, self aware and just a better guy.
So it turns out Hugh is an incredibly hard-working and driven performer. Every performance is accompanied by deep study, research, and thought. Huge respect for this artist.
Same here. Loved him in Love Actually and Sirens, but enjoy his recent villainous roles even more. If you've never seen Russell's very campy Lair of the White Worm, it's fairly amusing and he's one of the leads.
@@evelynwaugh4053golly, did you see A Very British Scandal (or is it A Very English….?)? With Ben Whishaw. Both are fantastic. I hadn’t seen Hugh in anything for YEARS and now actively watch anything he’s in incl Heretic.
I find it lovely that Hugh Grant expanded his career beyond the stuttering English fop. I think he could so easily have got himself trapped in that role, so it's wonderful to see him play a range of diverse roles. I especially loved seeing him in The Gentlemen. Hearing him discuss the depth of his process is also very interesting.
Love how he doesn’t take himself too seriously and is very self aware - sublime humor, aging so well, and just refreshingly charming while not trying to be ❤
Hugh Grant would be someone I would love to sit with for hours listening to him. Adore his honesty and devotion for his works! Also he ages like fine wine, he looks better at his age than i thought. Always support you sir!
he is simply the BESt and it’s so refreshing to see someone being so unapologetically themselves without being afraid of being unlikeable with every word they say 😊 he is just a real person
What a fascinating commentary by Hugh Grant! He really is an outstanding actor! The research and preparation he puts into each acting role is phenomenal!
I love how much thought Hugh put into every role regardless of their seriousness. As a fellow Brit I find him very warm and thoughtful! A great actor and human being for certain 😊❤️
My favourite fight scene of any film. Usually I fast forward through fist fights, sword fights etc. because they're so formulaic, but this one is just so realistic and funny.
I watched Love Actually at the cinema when my first, proper, really important relationship of five years ended and it did massively cheer me up. Thank you Hugh, Richard & Co! There’s nothing like the humour, pain, silliness and romance of a noughties British romantic comedy to make you feel better about your miserable, disastrous life!
Growing up with Hugh Grant movies I haven’t realized how such a great actor he is. I have just realized that I love all the pictures of him that I have watch. Love him he’s the best

Getting older seems to have released him from the type casting he did suffer from a little in his younger days. He’s flourished and become a versatile, intelligent, wonderful actor to watch. I’d love to be at a dinner party with him - fascinating.
love that he has no illusions about what he did well and not so, or repeating the same character all that outspoken awareness of his flaws makes him so likeable and at the same time he overcame that and became better and better over the years... not many actors have such a developement over 45 or 50. When Hugh Grant was young, i couldn't be arsed with him and used to call him Huge Grunt After 'About a Boy', i slowly warmed to him, and now that he's so real, humourous and grumphy, i adore him.
Missing was his deliciously slimy role in "The Gentlemen". Absolutely fascinating and creepy Fletcher, the narrator who guides us through the storyline and makes you want a long hot, shower after each encounter. Was delightful to watch Mr Grant dial up the repulsive factor to the limit. Loved watching his performance in this film.
This was by far a lot more interesting than most of these can’t fair career look backs. Also makes me realise I’ve missed a couple of gems that I need to watch
Love Hugh Grant. When is he getting his lifetime achievement Oscar! - His track record is stunning. His romantic leads were all gentlemen - it wasn’t that they didn’t have balls - they were real gentlemen. Can’t surpass him. Love love love 🧡😚😍
The BBC could have interviewed Margret, Duchess of Argyll’s son and her daughter-in-law, Lady C, before making this drama, but couldn’t be bothered🙄. A Very British Scandal is largely fictional.
People criticize Grant for being too dry or rigid, but he's also very self-aware - and that's MUCH more than can be said for most celebrities.
The people who do that are just Americans who don't understand British dry deadpan humor. They can be safely ignored.
Hugh, or Cary?
Also, self- deprecating… a very English trait!
Sign of intelligence

This is a profound observation. I agree!
LOVED that seemingly one-camera shot scene in Notting Hill of him walking thru the seasons
