Eventually the GLSDB glide bomb will arrive in Ukraine, supposedly within weeks. It is a HIMARS munition which doubles the range of current HImars missiles Ukraine currently uses. It's a smaller warhead but compensated by being even more surgically precise (one meter circle). The glide bomb piggy backs on older Himars missiles which are plentiful and relatively cheap. At apex of rocket's trajectory the glide bomb releases and glides in free fall to target. The bomb has winglets and is able to alter course as needed, to the extent it can turn back 180 degrees and hit the backslope of a target which might normally offer terrain/obstacle protection from most artillery fired from enemy's location. Finally, the bomb can hit targets painted by airborne or ground based lasers, even hitting moving targets. The delivery has been delayed by a couple months, reportedly because the older Himars rockets have to be painstakingly inspected for safety and reliability before shipment...not just for safety of Himars crews in theater, but also for U.S. aircraft and airmen who will ship the cargo.

Ukraine has the export version I believe, it's range is artificially limited, prob by firmware. The air launched version the UK has used previously offically has a 550km range although there is anecdotal evidence the RAF have hit targets closer to 1000km. The French navy version is being upgraded to 1200km for a ship launched version, albeit that looks to be new HW.
@@lordraydens Doubt they would risk losing military support and that would definitely make countries think twice about what they send. It would probably have a security system that alerts UK of tamper and block missile usage.
Max range for the air-launched ones is 500km. The french navy has vertical silo variants called "Mdcn" (Missile de croisiere naval - naval cruise missile). There is a version that can be shot from frigates, and another from submarines. These have 1400km and 1000km range respectively. But they are very different missiles that cost around twice as much as the air-launched variant.
The real benefit of the Storm Shadow is that it keeps Russian colonel and general officers out of the combat zone; since, they know there is very real possibility of being killed once their presence is discovered by Ukraine intelligence. For example, Lt Gen Oleg Tsokov was killed by a Storm Shadow in a local hotel near Berdyansk once his location was discovered by Ukraine intelligence. So if Russian leaders can't maneuver in the combat zone without getting killed, that leaves Russian leadership at the battalion and brigade level, which sucks already, in the hands of captains and lieutenants. Further, the Storm Shadow makes establishing brigade level ammunition and fuel points near the front lines almost impossible. Thus, the Russians can't rapidly re-supply a battalion under attack.
@@josephstalin9357 No. If that were the case, you'd hear and see general officers at the front in the media to bolster their troop morale. You don't see that. At least 317 Russian officers had been killed, a third of them majors, lieutenant colonels, and colonels. They are not stupid.

Is it accurate to describe the ATACMS, a ground launched ballistic missile as the US "equivalent" of the Storm Shadow, an air launched cruise missile? Wouldn't the JASSM be a more accurate US equivalent of a Storm Shadow? I have heard speculation that the JASSM might be provided to be used with the F-16s that are planned for delivery later this year. The US also has a greater stockpile of JASSMs than ATACMS, as well as a greater current production capacity. Maybe you can address these options in your next video 🤔

Seriously? You're staking you hopes on a WW II V1? While I'm sure they will be cheap to make they would be better off cloning the iranian drones, manufacturing them by the hundred in the west at $20k each that is 50 per $1M and they can send THEM into russia without troubling their Western supporters.
Storm Shadow is not manufactured anymore by Great Britain and France, and the two countries will not restart its production. Something that the leadership of Ukraine is not able to grasp, otherwise they will use this asset only when it is really needed.
I bet a lot of countries now want to purchase the Stormshadow. What an incredible piece of hardware! Wow. Gee, would have been nice to show of those ATACMS or whatever they are. I wonder if those work.
Storm Shadow will be replaced in the coming years by FC/ASW ("Future Cruise/Anti-Ship Weapon") again being developed by the UK/France and I believe Italy has recently joined the program - so countries may want to wait to get the improved more capable missile.
@@timmilder8313 Oh I know they do! I'm just being sarcastic because I'm not happy that the US leaders have not sent ATACMS. It's very annoying. The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is - whichever is greater - it obtains a difference or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position that it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is is now the position that it wasn't, and if follows that the position that it was is now the position that it isn't. In the event that the position that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation. The variation being the difference between where the missile is and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was. The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows: Because a variation has modified some of the information that the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it know where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice versa. And by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.
So there’s a much needed correction coming from a former 13M MLRS/HIMARS crew member. MLRS can reach 300+ miles with the ammunition we NATO use. Double that of the Stormshadow. Not saying the Stormshadow is not a supreme weapon system, but it must be noted that MLRS is not being fully executed in an offensive fashion as we would.
There are multiple versions of Storm Shadow too. The UK has sent the shorter range ones. The longer range version has double the range. The UK and US are both sending weapons with ranges to hit targets in occupied Ukraine and not putting temptation in Ukraine's hands to attacking targets deep inside Russia. It's only 520 miles to Moscow and given how poor the Russian Air defence seems, getting an SU57 200 miles into Russian territory to launch wouldn't be out of the question.
@@radman8321 there are speculations that France has given the 500km version to Ukraine, we don't know, Macron is not very talkative on the subject...I guess we will find out soon

The missile's GPS is being effectively jammed by the Russians or being shot down by SHORAD.
But who's on first?

Ukraine have the export version of Storm Shadow/SCALP.

There are multiple versions of Storm Shadow too. The UK has sent the shorter range ones. The longer range version has double the range.
