Russia handled all of the German energy market for many a long year, so Germans feel grateful toward Moscow. They can't just suddenly abandon those deep feelings, so they try to protect Russia the best they can, while still attempting to help Ukraine as well.
@@herrakaarme You are being ridiculous. Germany is proposing and enforcing more sanctions against Russian energy then most other nations and Germany is one of the top suppliers for the Ukrainian war effort. And as a German I am very happy about that and I hope we will give them many Taurus missiles to strike far into Russian territory.
@@moos5221 Yes, it was just a cheap jab at German's position before the open war began, and the German energy policy in general. @@herrakaarme it's a very good and intelligent decision to not use nuclear energy and instead use renewable energies. and all nations could have done more for ukraine, for sure.
@@moos5221 I have nothing against renewable energy. But you need something else in addition to it. The production fluctuates like crazy relying on renewables only, which means the electricity market price jumps to the stratosphere one day, then may crash down the next day. Not counting hydro here, which is solid, but old industrialised countries have already built as much hydro as possible, and it has its own, major environmental impact. People typically also don't want to live in the shadow of those gigantic wind turbines. They are everywhere these days, though. If if you have a nuclear power plant, you can't even see it from a quick walking distance away, and it's just a single, limited location. They remain in operation for decades, producing no uncontrollable pollution, unless you are like the Japanese and neglect all maintenance to save a few yens.
Though this channel is called interesting engineering, it missed the most interesting parts of engineering about the Taurus. One difference between the Taurus and Storm Shadow/SCALP is that Taurus uses a Turbofan engine while the latter uses a Turbojet engine. Turbofans are more efficient, allowing for a longer range with the same fuel tank. The Taurus can be programmed to penetrate several levels of a building and detonate on a specific floor. Its detonator has an inertial sensor that can feel how many floors it penetrates through and can count them. This makes Taurus perfect for penetrating through the road of a certain bridge and detonate at the pillars below.
In reality the most significant difference between the Storm Shadow/SCALP and the Taurus is that Ukraine has one type but not the other. I wouldn't be surprised if Ukraine gets the new upgraded SS/SCALP replacement before the Taurus shows up, if it ever does. As the old saying goes, 'The weapons you have may break my bones but dreams will never hurt me'.
This is a powerful stuff. South Korea have bought 260 pieces. Now South Korea is working on two projects. One is to codevelop a smaller and lighter version (KEPD 350K-2, . .2,000 lb) and JASSM-ER like indigenous version.
Which is best Storm Shadow or Taurus? Well a Storm Shadow under the wing of a Ukrainian plane, being fired at Russian targets, is a lot more useful than a Taurus missile in a warehouse in Germany, gathering dust. End of argument.
- "End of argument." You mean end of your childish burst? All advanced weapons Ukraine has already gotten from the allied countries have been at some stage at the phase of "donation considered", and Storm Shadow/Scalp is no exception of that. Did you proclaim irrelevance of the Storm Shadow the same way before it arrived to Ukraine? Many, like ATACMS of the USA, are still at the phase where their donation is being considered. It's noteworthy how some people in the allied countries get critical about certain things only when Germany does or doesn't do them, other countries getting a "pass" when they do them. Ironically the reason for that seems to be to large part Russian anti-German propaganda and hybrid warfare that Russia has conducted on the western social media during the most of the 2000's. Unfortunately that influence campaign was successful, and many regular people in the west seem to have acquired a staying anti-German attitude because of that. They don't know where their attitude came from, and believe that it's based on their own consideration and observations.

No anti air system is safe….. / if our Olaf Scholz is not slow as usual …. That would be an positiv asymmetric moment for Ukrain.
The current plan of reducing range could lead to a more powerful warhead which might come in even more handy than the pure range. Also to take out the Kerch Bridge a single, very large warhead might be superior to the rather specialised Mephisto Warhead.
I disagree. Deep penetration with this tandem warhead could be very helpful for taking out that bridge. That should probably not be changed. Surface damage can be easily paved over, a quick repair. But if you got a hole through your bridge, that takes time to fix. I prefer the perspective of deep holes over a bigger area of damage.
@@sebastianwendl603 I agree. This missile could take down the supports rather than bridge sections, which would disable the bridge for much much longer
The engineering effort of designing, prototyping, validating, and then producing a modified warhead and smaller fuel tank is likely out of the question. If anything they will limit range via software (in which case there is extra unburned fuel so you already get a bigger warhead in a sense) or by simply not fueling them completely and sealing the fill port.
@@sebastianwendl603 I may have been unclear. You don't need a dual-warhead to destroy a bridge, only for tanks this makes sense. For a bridge you just need a single warhead with as much bang as possible.
If Putin is worried about these, then they should probably be sent .. The cost of sending a small handful would be outweighed by the profits from the increased weapons sales once the world realises they can kick naughty oligarch butt.

Yep, Kerch Bridge would be the ideal target and is the most valuable Russian asset in this war. Without the bridge Russian forces on Crimea would be starved of munitions, fuel, cruise missiles for the ships and submarines being supplied in Sevastopol.
Agreed. Send out as many decoys as needed but send enough SCALP (ATACMS) to fully drop the Kerch Bridge (which is on Ukrainian land - in CRIMEA)... This would shortly thereafter result in the capitulation of russia! Taurus KEPD350 was co-developed with Sweden and was qualified for the JAS 39 so hopefully they can get both in the future, and with the RBS15 the black sea fleet wouldn't dare leave port again, but then again the RBS15 can now also target land objectives so unless they build cope cages around the entire Sevastopol and the like - they are still not safe... I do however hope Ukraine quickly can build mountain bases for some of their coming planes.. I am no geologist but much of southwestern Ukraine seems very mountainous - yes it's far from the front but with JAS you can use highways during mission sorties and mountain bases at the end of the day so the pilots sleep good at night... Not to mention the other cool long range weapons like Meteor and GLSDB (whatever happened to those btw? still not on the market. No they are not gps jammed, otherwise the terrorists would jam JDAM, HIMARS, Storm Shadow, etc etc, they have INS navigation, terrain radar etc so they are basically just as accurate (just slightly lower accuracy)...
The thing is Ukraine should be building their own Cruise missile similar to Taurus or Scalp. They have Moto Sich building jet engines and Ukraine has already produced & used long range lawnmower drones. They already built the Neptune missile. So they have the capabilities, it's only a matter of time till they produce their own cruise missile.
@@miikapekk5155 The Neptune missle is basically air-launched missle with added starting module to launch from surface. Recently some of them disabled (probably destroyed) the s-400 complex in Crimea. Yes Ukraine was once Soviets best supplier of military and space materiel, they still have a lot of expertise, but with a range of over 300km the Nepture seem very capable - even on land targets.... Whenever weapon supplies to Ukraine are being discussed, the primary concern is: "How hard can we spank Russia today without them crying about it?" Russia, even though the aggressor, is being treated with more care and gentleness than Ukraine.

The West has sold China the technology to make 1st products. I have worked in China and managers of American and EU companies all would tell me that as soon or even before their manufacturing was up Chinese companies were knocking off their products. Also China required Technology transfers and Chinese Co-owership for a lot of companies before they could do business there.
Let us guess the source of the information was either the MSM or a state sponsored think tank? But yeh, China might be having Russia test some of there systems, what of it? The Russian systems have left NATO in sheer panic at there volume and accuracy. Russia can shoot down or jam most western systems at a fairly high hit rate. The west has no answer for anything Russia has (Russian drones are taking western armour at will, Russian missiles took out the patriot system on day 1 easily etc etc)

And how will that help the tens of thousands of Ukrainian men dying on the frontline? I know you dont care, but you must admit your comment is a bit stupid.
As it is air launched the overall range depends on how close the launching aircraft can get. If they have good enough SEAD, say MOLD-j HARM etc 200 mile range may well be enough.
With about 500km range, what Germany is worried about if probably not the Kerch bridge but Ukraine obliterating the Kremlins secret bunker or the next military May parade ...
Storm shadow export is specifically limited in range for export so they're probably the same range. Also there scalp/ shadow has a broach penetrator for exactly the same effect as the Taurus in breaching bunkers and hardened targets
It's just advertising. SCALP technology is the same as Taurus and it will be the same as Taurus, that's why Germany does not supply it, afraid of the costs of anti-advertising.
Yeah the two missiles are very similar in capability, which is not surprising given that they were designed to be carried by some of the same aircraft (Tornado and Eurofighter/Typhoon). Like France and the UK, Germany and Sweden are also members of the Missile Technology Control Regime so any Tauruses given to Ukraine will be limited to 300 km range.

@@NotUnymous range is the same and speed is the same between the two. storm shadow uses a twin charge warhead as well called BROACH. Both are made by MBDA
It's better than the storm shadow in every aspect. Sensors, range, warhead.. It can't get jammed as easy, has flares to defend itself and can operate independently in the area of the target.
Ukraine mainly wants to destroy the Kerch Bridge. Taurus has an advantage over the Strom Shadow in having a smart head that recognizes voids. In this particular case of the bridge, the idea is that it will first break through the relatively thin surface of the bridge and the main warhead will explode below, damaging the main pillars and causing the bridge to collapse.
I don't think the range is the issue. I bet they have no idea how to fire this missile from an Su24 and how to actively guide it. It's so advanced, that Ukraine would need more and special equipment to use it.
That is somewhat the reason, yes. actually it was just written on german news that to make them compatible to be launched by ukrainian (soviet) airplanes some top secret NATO-Tech has to be declassified and trusted to Ukraine.
Anybody that has a rough idea about engineering knows that the official range of 350 or 500 km is nothing but a bad joke. This thing - dropped from max altitude with v-max - will fly WAY further than this.
Doesn't BAE systems own part or all of SAAB-Bofors ? Also MBDA is also part owned by BAE... So not really a German missile at all... Anyway a missile that a spinless government will not supply is not a missile at all, it may as well not exist. The proper range of Storm Shadow and SCALP is 350 miles + and is only reduced to 150 miles for proper export version, but I assume Ukraine got ex-RAF proper range ones...
Saab Bofors is part of the Swedish SAAB group, MBDA Deutschland is a subsidiary of the wider MBDA company, but it is based in Germany, so yes, this missile is German (and Swedish) with components from various other countries as well.
@@apis_aculeithat's frequently a problem here and fits to our French friends as well.I like the idea, that it is a proper baby of a successful European cooperation
The real reason is that Moscow is 450km away and max range is 500km. Ukraine would try to attack Moscow with this forcing Russia to finish off Kiev regime earlier but at greater losses of life on Russian side. On the plus side for Putin his popularity and popularity of war would be boosted.
Ukraine Like Sadam Hussain's Iraq after giving them everything to fight Iran. NATO and the US will attack them in another war to destroy everything they have given them.
Why bother with expensive jet aircraft? A WW2 Mosquito made from wood could readily lift that payload up and release it. As you do not need to enter enemy airspace why have a multi-million dollar vehicle to drop these weapons?
Storm Shadow and Scalp could also penetrate Russian territory but Ukraine has agreed to not use them to attack targets in Russia. The same stipulation could apply to the German/Swedish missile but Scholtz is too timid to supply them to Ukraine.

This includes abandoning nuclear energy in favour of Russian fossil fuels, and now with no Russian imports, going back to good old, healthy coal, which is so green and fresh.
Germany has supplied Ukraine well, yes, although it could have done even more if Germany had taken better care of its own defence.
Well we can certainly give a nod to the adequate while maintaining hope for the better, can we not.

@@miskaknapek And its still in a warehouse whereas Storm isn't!. See the difference?

You mean end of your childish burst?

The current plan of reducing range could lead to a more powerful warhead which might come in even more handy than the pure range. Also to take out the Kerch Bridge a single, very large warhead might be superior to the rather specialised Mephisto Warhead.
there are already different warheads avaible

The civilised world needs to ramp up its support for Ukraine to ensure Russias barbaric invasion of Ukraine fails at a minimum cost in lives to Ukraine. At the moment far too many Ukrainians are dying when weapons like this could shorten the war and save lives.
you sound like an Englishman from the 18th century. Explain exactly who is civilized and who is not?
Very basic lesson for you in simple terms about what is and isn’t civilised.
What isn’t civilised.
Being a Kleptomaniac like Putin
Murdering or imprisoning Putins political opponents
Removing any sense of democracy from Russia and turning it into an authoritarian state.
Eliminating any independent press in Russia
Lying to the Russians about the reasons for the war.
The Holodomor which many regard as genocide by the Russians against the Ukrainians. An estimated 5m died.
The attempted assignation of President Yushchenko by Russian agents
The use of machine guns against demonstrators by President Yanukovych
The invasion and annexation of Crimea in 2014 by Russia despite the majority wanting to be part of Ukraine.
The creation of The Wagner Group to infiltrate The Donbas pretending they were job seekers and attack Ukrainian security forces in 2014.
Russia breaking every treaty including the treaty of Friendship which recognised Ukraine’s borders and under took not to use its territory to invade or harm their respective borders.
Russia breaking the Minsk 1 and 2 agreements ( and cynically blaming Ukraine) and murdering about 350 Ukrainian servicemen using a pre agreed safe withdrawal corridor
Russia pretending that ethnic Russian in The Donbas were in danger as they did in Georgia. Remember 85% of the Donbas voted to be part of Ukraine.Bear in mind that today you can speak Russian in Kiev without criticism and a third of Ukrainians speak Russian as their first language.
The barbaric unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in 2021
The kidnapping of over 20,000 named children by Russia. (Ukraine claims 700,000 children are unaccounted for). Putin is of course a wanted man for this
The bombing by Russia of hospitals and other medical facilities in Ukraine, (The Red Cross confirmed nearly 800 had been damaged in the first 6 months of the war). Russia used the same tactics of terror in Syria including bombing UN aid convoys.
The bombing and targeting of residential blocks, theatres, civilian infrastructure, shopping centres, by Russia etc
The extrajudicial killings of Ukrainian servicemen and civilians many with their hands tied on a scale which goes far beyond the excuse there are a few rogue units.
I could go on but I think you get the point.
So what is civilised.
Putting in place democratic safe guards
A fair and balanced society where the enormous wealth in natural resources in Russia would be shared more equally instead of with a few Oligarchs
Reducing corruption to a minimum
Having an independent judiciary and police
Having a free press
Following a reasonable Human Rights Charter
Making politicians answerable and accountable for their decisions.
Providing aid to those in need whether that’s help with food security, infections and diseases, economic aid or military aid where a country is under an illegal unjustified invasion.
I could go on. …..and on.

Saab Bofors is part of the Swedish SAAB group, MBDA Deutschland is a subsidiary of the wider MBDA company, but it is based in Germany, so yes, this missile is German (and Swedish) with components from various other countries as well.
not of British origin? impossible, right?
@@apis_aculeithat's frequently a problem here and fits to our French friends as well.I like the idea, that it is a proper baby of a successful European cooperation
The real reason is that Moscow is 450km away and max range is 500km. Ukraine would try to attack Moscow with this forcing Russia to finish off Kiev regime earlier but at greater losses of life on Russian side. On the plus side for Putin his popularity and popularity of war would be boosted.
Let’s be honest. Ukraine will have everything in time. Nukes included
Ukraine Like Sadam Hussain's Iraq after giving them everything to fight Iran.
NATO and the US will attack them in another war to destroy everything they have given them.
one year, then they will order nukes ass well.
Cost per unit?
one taurus costs 1 million euro no joke ;>
More stuff that will be on the black market
Evidence Ruzzian bot?
@hyp77 the cartels in Mexico have been seen with stuff sent to ukraine. Not everyone that goes againest your narrative you were fed is a bot kid.
@@shuryougospel5424 are you talking about that training AT4 cosplaying as a Javelin, vatnik?
@@Kohagaan you are far too trusting that the equipment went where ukraine and the government said it did.
@@shuryougospel5424 that's a "you" problem. From here it looks that Ukraine received the equipment, and they are not afraid to use it.
Why bother with expensive jet aircraft? A WW2 Mosquito made from wood could readily lift that payload up and release it. As you do not need to enter enemy airspace why have a multi-million dollar vehicle to drop these weapons?
hello from russia we not worry about weapons as we have are own
3 days 😂
Then move on and troll around somewhere else. But why are your Leaders always getting a Heartattack when new western Weapons are provided to Ukraine?
🤣
yeah, and they all work according to plan.
🤣🤣🤣 yeah only good for hitting Hospitals, Train Stations and Grain Silos. Everything still going to plan Ivan?
Storm Shadow and Scalp could also penetrate Russian territory but Ukraine has agreed to not use them to attack targets in Russia. The same stipulation could apply to the German/Swedish missile but Scholtz is too timid to supply them to Ukraine.
This channel went full on west propaganda, before 2022, it was somewhat a good channel.

310 miles? Is it something about 500 km? Or less or more? Couldn’t you just enumerate it in both units?
Yeah he could .. but 1 mile = 1.6km -- 320 miles = 512km

Thx
when I pause, I luckily am already familiar enough with the imperial units to calculate it in my head at least roughly. But even so, I still need to pause the stream and I do it roughly without calculator.
Well … and I was just driving (so unable to stop it or take out calculator).
But then … there is lot of, rather majority of, people in Europe speaking English, yet not knowing imperial units even this bad as I do.
Should be unofficial norm for RUclipsrs kindly provide both.
This channel is good though, all the more I wanted to point this thing out :-)
@@petrskupa6292 yeah I hear you … but in video I saw he did it in metric too … maybe he edited it later? Makes sense to put in metric too … more people use metric then the imperial system. And I don’t like the imperial system … converting it from miles to kilometres is not so bad but temperature is totally a mess. WTF is 80° Fahrenheit? It’s even more shit!
@@wolfgangselle3272 exactly.
Miles are not too bad.
Fahrenheits are worst (for me too).
I also despise when flying heights or diving deeps are enumerated in thousands and thousands of feet (why not in miles at least?)… few feet became somewhat imaginable for me, easy enough. Yet if it is combined in with using them for loooong distances it’s absolutely foreign
@@wolfgangselle3272 When I had time, I rewatched the video and by accident I had switched on subtitles , the recalculation was present in subtitles and in one instance there was directly by author on the screen.
That is hardly something to notice while driving or listening while other activities (when driving I shortly consult the screen, for some tactical maps or get a picture… but it is not possible to read for example)
_"The weight crucial for it's aerial launch"_ WTF is that supposed to mean? I mean that is just a nonsense phrase. 🤷♂
I think Ukraine already proved that they are not interested in targets in Russia, it's ridiculous to cut range. The Atacms have a greater range, did they use them in Russia? I don't think so. All that fear feeds more confidence to that criminal tsar.
These missiles will enhance Ukrainian capabilities against russian invaders.
They worried about ATACAMS about Taurus and so one russians nightmare is reach good bless ukanian
The comments show that the same ideas of unwarranted superiority and self-admiration that led to the Crimean War, WW1 and 2 are being propagated among Westerners. Good luck in the future! :)
