I’d live for car companies to use uneven firing bike engines in small sporty cars. 315 and 270 degree twins, v-twins of various degrees, t-plane triple, crossplane inline-4, v4s, etc
Thank you for the comments about my R1-iQ .. I forgot to mention this video showing me driving is actually the first time I took it out! so please excuse the slow driving and bad gearchanges. After this video I also fixed the clutch issue so now it gets off the line like a boss and not much will corner like this little iQ does ! Hope to have some new videos soon too. Thx! Dave.
Wow wow wow, I love absolutely everything about this video - the car looks very clean, almost like factory stunt, editing is great and I love the choice of music... Bravo
Damn it! I just sold my R1 and I was thinking about turbo charging my IQ. I never thought I could do this! Hahaha. Would love to know more about how to do this conversion. I love the sound of the cross plane engines Yamama makes.
it certainly wouldn't! 😂 any multi cylinder engine revving more than 10k rpm sounds like a formula 1 engine though it's a pretty damn amazing piece of engineering this car.
Why isn't Crossplane 4-cyl engine a thing in cars? Why don't ecoboost Mustangs for example have this type of engine in order to sound more V8-ish while being more lightweight and practical?
I can listen to this all day. I regularly day dream about swapping an r1 engine ino a pint sized car, so this is music to my ears. There is a lot of gear oise though. Is that becuase of the mounting position of the camera, or is the gear noise really as loud as the engine? If so, what is the source of the noise, primary chain drive, secondary gear drive, rear differential or ? Also what did you do for reverse?
Thank you for your kind comments!, Yes the engine noise is quite loud even in the car, the Sequential transmission accounts for the whine noise, plus the chain also adds a little whining too. When you drive it hard it sounds like a WEC car, I like the noise and the exhaust is just perfect, I have an electronic reverse I am working on, it is a small electric motor that drives one of the rear wheels. I will be posting an update soon, including rear footage from a stationary camera mounted on the road as I accelerate away, should be great to watch!
I have a 2012 IQ with the CVT mush box. I read that Dave had a 6 speed manual conversion from an IQ that he had for sale.. If it's still for sale I'm interested.
Wow! Big respect mate! That's a super cool conversion! Turned out beautifully. Hard work paid off! A local company is quoting me a 5k maybe bit more for a turbo conversion OR supercharger, but they recon turbo conversion with extra ECU piggybagged into the main one? Any thoughts or recommendation on whether to do SC or TC? I don't think Rotrex does the TC kits anymore or atleast not to NZ... Cheers!
Hi that, was actually only the second time I had driven the car, you can tell by the bad clutch shifts, not an easy car to drive with a foot clutch converted from a hand lever. I was still taking it easy as I had not fully tested how strong my drive train was, I did push it a little harder on later drives and it sounds amazing when you shift at 14,000rpm..
I would venture a guess that you're not a bike rider? Shifting that R1 doesn't require clutch action... just slightly let off the throttle while holding a slight up-shift pressure on the shift lever... it will find its way. Without a "car flywheel", using the clutch will take a LOT of learning to rev-match the engine for the next/previous gear. sure hope you have a greatly upgraded clutch anyway... with all that extra weight to pull around. Might be worth considering adding a direct-drive 2-5HP electric motor for Reverse...
Hi, I have had my fair of Sport bikes, including a number of track days, I also raced a season of British Supermoto championships' a few years back, I currently ride off road, (have done since 1975) so I am pretty good with bike ! ha ha, I use the clutch really to take the strain off the drive train, I have shifet up and down without the clutch (it has a slipper in it) and it works as you say just fine. You suggestion for an electric reverse is in the works as we speak, thanks ! will update when it done.
Nice work and I greatly commend you, buy why an R1 engine? I have the same car and I woulda tried a little Honda B16 Vtec or something. If I went with a motorcycle engine (not that I would because its too complicated), I would do a Kawi ZX14 or Suzuki Busa engine. I was never a fan of going DOWN in displacement with a motor swap, even if it makes more power.
Great build, unusual engine in a not so obvious car, respect! I wonder, what kind of gear ratio did you use for the final drive? Revs at 60 mph in top gear? Cheers from Holland
The Huyabusa engine is too tall to fit under the hood, it could be done but would need to be converted to rear wheel drive as there is no space for the diff under the busa engine.
@@francesd28 Even better..... A RWD IQ, with a 300Bhp Busa engine..... That would be the Dog's dankly bit's for sure !. Aston Martin manged to get a 4.5L V8 in there, so the bar has already been set pretty high.
My nabors would sue, my wife would borderline divorce me... Not to sure... Bt this everthing i dream of when i romp my stock 1.3l straight piped '12! Would you ever build another? And price tag of said build? You did a dream car job man kudos!!!
yeah but its not a drag car, it was built for cornering and just fun toy to drive, 0-60 is not really my thing. if I wick it up to 13,000 rpm and dump the clutch it actually goes pretty good!
The intercooler was initially installed as I was going to turbo it, but I changed my mind and took it off, I want it to be reliable and there was no room for a turbo anyway, thx !
can someone explain why this big i3 1000c 12v 67hp produce so much less power than i4 inline 4 190hp R1 engine? it's literally half of the iq stock but it's better. can i ask why?
because Supersbike's engine is High Compressed Engine and didn't aiming for fuel efficient consumption. Bigger Camshaft, Smaller Combustion Chamber ( High Compressed ), High Flow Heads, powerful injectors and Aggressive ECU Maps ( Ignition Timing / Fuel Mapping ).
The R1-IQ currently weighs less than 1600lbs so the R1 gearbox can easily handle this, the slipper clutch takes some of the load off the drive train too. The stock R1 gearbox can handle up to 250 RWHP.
Yamaha engine in a Toyota, business as usual.
This is business
I’m pretty sure they own Yamaha
@@teachyoselfclips as of 31 Dec 2021 Toyota owns 3.61% of Yamaha.
Dude this is honestly the most insane build ever
Thank You !
This is such a great build love the sound of the R1 crossplane! This is above my knowledge to actually do but it’s still awesome!
The best of yamaha engine is, crossplane
Yamaha engine on a Toyota sounding like an American Mopar
OUTSTANDING

It instantly reminded me of the sounds from Nascar 2005 for PS2 😂
CP4 Yamaha engine, has the best sound of any 4 cylinder in-line engine(in my opinion). I am a bit biased, as an MT10 owner!
Finally a swap with the crossplane r1 engine

Dreamt about this v8-sounding crossplane being in a little car. Totally rad!
Badass build! Now if they can make helical cut gears for those transmissions❤
What did I just see😂 congrats
I like how you got the original R1 gauge on the middle of the car LOL

yasss! crossplane i4 car! worlds first! thanks!
Holy moly your welds are good for that engine frame

FINALLY. an engine swap with the crossplane r1
HOLY FUCK, this thing sound just like that classic M3 GTR from need for speed!

what an amazing underrated build and video
Dude made a smaller Cygnet V8
This thing is badass! I want to do this swap to my corolla now lol
Creativity knows no bounds. Americans at their best!
Amazing build! I was thinking about getting an IQ for more room, but I kept my Smartcar.
That short of a car, while stil having a normal width with front wheel drive and with that much power? This has to be unbeatable in the corners.
it is crazy cornering with super hard suspension and those soft compound tires.
This car needs to be in Hoonigan!!!
nice one sir
I have a 2012 scion iq and would to do something like this.
This content is 🔥🔥🔥
Bro its very good congrats bro.
sounds like a V8 with its Yamaha Crossplane 4 cylinder engine
At 13500 they most definitely do not
it certainly wouldn't!

Ive been thinking, of how cool would it be to have a 4 cylinder car that sounds like an r1.

Yoooooooo.
That is nice😭👌
Well done!!!
Dude! We need to get together!! I’m running nitrous through mine.
Leader! Teach this stuff. What is your YT handle?
Nitros?
the Only Possible Way to live with
an iQ is to scrap the factory engine

that sounds sooooo good!
How fun! It purrrsss....thanks for sharing..crazy good...genius
Glad you enjoyed it!

Excelente proyecto quedo genial
I've always wanted to crossplane swap a 3sgte then swap it inside the 3rd gen mr2. Since the 3rd gen is light, i guess this will do hahaha

actually crossplane i4 is exact half of crossplanne v8

How much to do this to my IQ. Ive been wanting to do the same thing since I bout my car years again
plan on $10k not including car and labor
I really want to put an r1 engine in my matrix
just boost that 2zz maybe?? or k20 swap🤣
Toyota iq race car
You should sell this as a conversion kit
I thought of that, but its way too complicated on this car to do.
how fast goes? acceleration 0-100km/h or 0-60mph? thanks

I used an online gear ratio calculator when i built it, and in theory will do 130mph at 12.500rpm. www.gearingcommander.com/
Perhaps you could do another build with a larger M/C engine like a Hyabusa Turbo. that would be really cool !
