What a well spoken, sweet, articulate woman. When she said she wasn't ashamed of self harming in the past because she got through it and survived it, it really resonated with me. I wish her every single blessing and a life filled with happiness
Thats tough because u know ur not but they just brand u as an attention seeker. Some doctors dont pay attention to anything because my brother almost died because of a urine infection and the doctor said he just had a cold and called my mum a crazy mother
I dont think a psychologist or psychiatrist would only check for psychosis. Was probably a GP with limited psychiatric training. Knowledge of Tourettes is widespread among professionals in psychiatry.
Many doctors lose their focus, passion and purpose once they hit the field. I’ve met doctors who clearly don’t give a crap about the well being of their patients. The same happens in other “high morality” fields like law.

It's always funny how those who suffer the most end up developing such a wonderful attitude towards everything. It brings a really great appreciation to all of the good things in life. I believe that behind every good person is great pain whether they ever show it or not.
I'm a single dad. My daughter has Tourette's. Her mother is out of the picture. She is handling it pretty well for 13. Her friends accept her and don't judge her. Thank you for posting your story. God bless you.
My sympathies to your family. I had Tourettes as a youngster, but fortunately I did "grow out of it in my early teens. It is a hard disease to live with, but there is hope. Feel free to reach out to me. I am not selling anything.
@@Themealman Music is actually one of the remedies for Tourettes. Most people afflicted by Tourettes say that their ticks go away when they are singing or playing music.
Somtimes it's better alot of teens are diagnosed with bi polar disorder when they are just emotional, being bi polar affects your life but when it's on paper when you dont have it then it's more fucked up
The attention seeking thing is a huge problem for a lot of young people, especially young women. Unfortunately the roots of medicine as it is now practiced are in the years of “hysteria” as a diagnosis and those unconscious biases haven’t been eradicated yet, not even close. Re: UK vs USA, this is a problem in both countries (and also in Europe and Canada and likely nigh on everywhere else) but at least in the UK they don’t charge you for the privilege of being gaslighted about your body, and your income isn’t a barrier for getting to see appropriate specialists.
As a neurologist and a young woman I find this interview endlessly fascinating. She’s so relatable and so well able to express her experience. The tics are so complex and, 2:47 min into the video, somehow super cute. I’ve seen a number of tics, some involving a risk of self-harm, and find her tics very endearing somehow. I hope it’s ok to express that here because I could never tell a patient her tics are cute, obviously! I didn’t think that adjective could be applied to complex tics…
I'm sorry ma'am, but I have tourettes and it's not cute. I wish people would stop saying it is, I'm sorry to say this, but it isn't a compliment and it doens't make me us feel better, only worse. Because it's really painful. It's not nice or cute to have no control of your body. I was and still do get mocked, scolded, shouted, joked about, and insulted by my very own family. This is isn't easy, so people saying it's "cute" is not... not really a good thing to hear.
as a boy with Tourette's, this video makes me unbelievably happy not only because I'm able to relate to it with passion, but because it lets me know that there are other people out there that struggle with this disorder. I was diagnosed with it at around 7 or 8 years old and all I can say is that making friends and socializing is incredibly difficult. Every person I have met that has this disorder is the most kind hearted, understanding person you'll ever meet. I think that's because they've been so hurt and mistreated by people and don't want to inflict that on others and that doesn't just apply for Tourette's. If you ever meet someone with Tourette's, please just be understanding and empathetic with them, they will like you immediately, trust me.
@@alexb4185 If you have involuntary tics that gives you problems it shouldn't be necessary with a diagnosis to inform the relevant people that you have tourettes. If you do or say inappropriate things context always matters and if you hurt someone, then letting them know it was an involuntary action should negate it.
Yeah, that kinda shocked me. You can’t exactly beat her just because she’s different. I mean everyone isn’t the same. What kinda scared me was that she started hurting herself at the age of 8/9 years old.
I was incredibly shocked about that. A 12 year old beaten unconscious by someone who 4-6 years older than her. She has been through a lot but still keeps her head high.
@Calamity unfortunately a lot of places have sociopaths like that with teachers and many others just being bystanders. Their excuse is always "it's just kids". My friend was put in hospital because some girls perceived her as weird when she was in middle school. A trans teenager from a local school was almost pushed under the tracks by younger kids because "that's not a person, it's a she-he thing!"
I 100% agree with you, however when you think about it from the other students perspective you can understand why. A child which had not been medically diagnosed with anything was swearing and insulting you. You have to understand that it must have been very frustrating and provoking for other people and for some violence is the answer

This woman, despite what she’s going through, is incredibly well spoken. For someone who expressed such hardships in social situations when she was you g, this is phenomenal.
Domi, my comment about how well spoken was more about the fact that she mentioned how shy and afraid of being social she was. Again, it was about the hardships she endured when she was young (not you g) that makes her ability to speak so easily to a camera. But you can ignore part of what I’m saying and only read into it what you want to hear. Unfortunately, it doesn’t align with my intention.
@@yngvebalmsteen9174 Are you saying Tourette's as an illness is a scam? Or that out of all the tens of thousands of twitch streamers, one happens to have Tourette's? I'm just wondering which stupid ass opinion you're trying to convey
Despite her condition, she has a very soft, clear and pleasant voice. She comes over as intelligent and well spoken and I can definitely imagine a voice like hers in narration like audiobooks, voice acting, that kinda stuff.
I think it's because she has to think a lot about what she's saying, so she's much more careful with words and what she's saying than the average person
I’ve always liked Anita. Didn’t know her life had been so painful. She seems smart to me and it’s probably because going through hardship gives you a lot of time for introspection.
Another ugly truth... So-called Doctors in the medical field were horrible people back in the day AND they still are, because mistreating children has not stopped or even lessened, so much so that the majority is incapable and/or is unwilling to face their and their parents and the majority's ugly truth.
Experience, especially painful ones, often make people more intelligent. It also heightens your senses giving you seemingly psychic abilities. It's the ptsd/paranoia. You see the movie split? What he said at the end after she shot him was spot on and it hit me hard. I realized I'm a lot stronger than I've ever given myself credit for. Most people haven't been through what I've been through. Just the thought of it brings them to tears and they have suicidal thoughts. These same People refer to us as broken, but I can tell you from experience, what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. We all have stories don't we? I'm sure you have yours as well.
@@truman5838 What? How do you know that you were intelligent in the first place, before becoming more intelligent in order to dictate such absolutes? Humanity is severely messed up, even young in-experienced children are seeing it. ? You make such claims instead of addressing what's harming innocent and helpless children? You realize harm but don't help stop it or even lessen it? Do you think you and the majority are not hurting innocent and helpless children right now? Maybe I'll just fully contradict you by saying harms, especially ones that the majority don't see as harms, have damaged and are damaging and oppressed the majority. So much so that the majority can't or won't agree nor realize what harms are and entail; therefore perpetuate abusing and ruin innocent and helpless children. So who's right? You sound like your argument is that harms are a good thing, when they aren't, because the're harms. ya?
Is it strange that I like her tics? I know it’s involuntary and that they almost feel an urge but for her to whistle that clearly so quickly is incredible.
@Armathy Actually she has a video where she talks about people laughing at her tics and she said she doesn't mind. Given what kinds of reactions she's dealt with over her life in response to tics, finding a specific tic funny is probably more relieving to her
I found her a few minutes ago and I literally thought she was doing this only to sound cute. A few videos later, I found out that it's a disability and now I kinda feel guilty for enjoying all those videos of her.
My honest to God hope for you is that your son will grow out of it. As someone who is 25, and has pretty severe Tourette's since I was a youngling, I have to shoot it to you straight. If you ever would take advice from a fellow on the internet who you don't know, I must tell you this. Show him so much love, and verbally assure him you sympathize with his pain. Because it really is permanent physical suffering. (For the ones who's disorder doesn't subside.)

@@fatoprofugus6491 I did not really intend my statement to be a fact based on some video observation where I see the person for the first time and only from one angle. Hence I used sometimes, not even referring to her in particular :)
I noticed that she had more tics when she spoke about and recalled the darker times in her life than when she spoke about the happy times. My epilepsy is similar to that - I have more seizures when I'm feeling down or stressed than when I'm happy. Those random pops she does as well are really cute and perfectly done, I'm sort of jealous I can't pop as well as her.
It's worth saying that our understandings of neuroscience in general are barely more than infantile in comparison to other medical science studies... It's not epilepsy or tourettes, but I only realized about a month ago that I can't recall ever sneezing once on a motorcycle, and I'm fairly allergic to much of the surrounding environment... from molds and pollen to animal dander and dust... BUT for whatever reason, I've sneezed my head off in cars... even while I was driving... BUT never that I can recall on a motorcycle... which would be considerably more hazardous than driving a car and sneezing in uncontrolled fits... Emotional states DO elicit physiological changes, too. They are measurable and real physical changes. That could be at least part of it... I mean, it's imperative that I keep my emotional state relatively stable on the bike, because getting angry stiffens you up, the same as fear will stiffen you up, and the same as cold chills will stiffen you up. You can't ride skillfully if you can't move fluidly... AND that's a recipe for disaster on a motorcycle covering a 100 feet every second... It's important to note that when you get tense, it really doesn't matter why. It may only interfere a negligible amount with your skills on the bike, but it ALWAYS interferes. You can't "cheat" either. These are physiological changes, and while some effect certain people more than others, they are still detrimental. Of course, to me, riding has always been more akin to meditation than an adrenaline fueled sport, so that probably has some to do with how I can maintain a relatively stable emotional state on a moving motorcycle. Sure, people do dumb things in traffic, and it can be irritating... I'm human as the next guy or gal. I just prefer to blow it off in a few choice words and cleverly coined insults under the helmet, and releasing the anger, I make the maneuvering adjustments to render any hazard to a "non-issue" or effectively evade the catastrophe... AND of course, gear is worn to mitigate those times when skills alone can't. In any case, I wouldn't give up hope. We may well make significant progress. The "cutting edge" is miles ahead of where it was when I was a kid... and pneumonia was a summertime infection as often as winter... which for me was twice every year until I was in the fifth grade... ;o)

There is nothing you could dislike about this woman! She is smart, incredibly beautiful, well spoken, and seems like a lot of fun. I wish I could be her friend.
Yeah it affects you for life. I had been hideously abused and abandoned and beaten and gaslighted by ten years old. All the while kept away from doctors and other kids so as to keep my abusers safe from discovery. Evil people.
She's actually suffered an unbelievable amount and speaks about it like was just a normal part of life. Further she still acts like she needs to justify her behavior, like she needs to warn other people, like all the responsibility is on her to save other people from the inconvenience of dealing with her, it's heartbreaking, honestly. She's quite an extraordinary woman.
Well, maybe she really needs to warn others. Not to take some sort of responsibility or excuse an inconvenience she has no power over, but because an explanation might actually be needed. Imagine she tells someone she'll kill their dad (which she does sometimes) without the context. She could get in actual trouble because people don't take stuff like that lightly. If they don't know her, that is. You can't expect random people to think about the possibility of this being Tourette's first. I really like Anita and follow her streams, but you cannot act like some comments don't need to be explained if they happen. That's why she tells the taxi driver in the first place, so she can prevent bad stuff from happening.
She's only had a true diagnosis for a few years, so it takes time to get past feeling like you have to justify yourself. She's adjusted quite well from what I see, a lingering habit isn't so bad. And it's only an inconvenience to those who see it as such. That's on them, not her. Like she said, it can also be an amusing conversation starter as well. Just look at the bit of accidental comedy at the end of the interview. You couldn't plan that, and it was genuinely funny.
While I agree, it's still a little disconcerting if you consider the fact that she can suddenly punch you in the dick involuntarily and without warning.

She's a streamer and people constantly say her tics are cute, and i don't think she minds.
Better that people find her tics cute than offensive.

Maybe I'll just fully contradict you by saying harms, especially ones that the majority don't see as harms, have damaged and are damaging and oppressed the majority.
You can! It's all about practice, and she had a lot of it.
I noticed it too !
The "cutting edge" is miles ahead of where it was when I was a kid... and pneumonia was a summertime infection as often as winter... which for me was twice every year until I was in the fifth grade... ;o)

@@Maria-fd9gv Well usually, it's less of a circle and more of a trapezium. At the moment, during covid though, it's just my girlfriend and I. I'm guessing your next question is: you have a girlfriend? Well, she tells me she is so I'll just have to take her word for it.

her whistle sounds exactly like the iPhone text tone.
She also does a perfect impression of Siri
She got that from looking after a bird that was copying the sound from it's owners phone. Being around the bird made her pick it up.

You have no idea how amazing Sweet Anita is good at whistling. Look up the video of her whistling Mr. Sandman or any other tune.
I could see an entire room checking their phone when that tic hits her.
I really appreciate the honest inside peek into this young lady's life. She is gorgeous and as a child I can imagine she was a doll. So, parents and adults being so unkind and bitterly rude. Its great she gets the help she needs and helped her cope with the daily life of being a little different. Thanks for sharing.
I had a friend in high school with Tourette Syndrome, and he had the best sense of humor. He had great comedic timing and would always follow up a tick with a joke. He was honestly better at socializing than most supposedly healthy people.
Sounds to me like she's just more vocal about her natural nervousness and anxiety; like any of us.
My Tourettes has actually made me a bit more confident and social for this exact reason. I would still put my Tourettes in a dumpster and set it on fire if I had the chance, but small, teeny-tiny blessings I guess.
Remember, Anita is healthy. Her Tourettes is a neurological disorder. Maybe splitting hairs here. She is a delight!!
My son had similar ticks as you. Hooting like an owl, blinking in specific patterns etc. I was there always for him, since the world is not understanding of the condition. He is now an owner of his own company with employees. I'm so proud of him.
My son who's 7 turning 8 has started doing tics like this. He started with his mouth like yawning randomly then that stopped now this is the worse I've seen from him all this before he goes back to school where he didn't do anything before I'm telling him it's ok and he says that's he silly for doing it he randomly will just burst out with a back shrug and a mouth sound bit like Tasmanian devil. Reading your comment was so lovely to read
@@CCFC_86 thank you for your reply. I found that the ticks got more intense when he was stressed out. I would ask him in a calm way if everything was okay and if I could help in some way. I think this helped to give him the security that he's got someone to listen if he needs it. Eventually he will learn to control the ticks. But this is something that will take a little time. Good luck to you and your son . 😊
@@CCFC_86 I found I had a similar situation when I was about 9. It is really a weird feeling that you feel you must nod your head or open your mouth like yawning. Eventually, they have grown away in my case.
I tic in my left eye instead of right like she does. Funny how it works
It’s kinda crazy to hear Anita saying that she was socially inept some time ago since now she really comes across as someone very socially skilled
Right?? I'm not even generally interested in the type of content she makes (I don't like to watch streams and stuff like that) but I always click when one of her videos is recommended to me because her personality is honestly really captivating, and her voice is wonderful to listen to! She's very charismatic.
Right!? Its those difficulties that can make us better than other people at it some day, as we have to put more effort and research into cultivating these good skills, as well as coping with our conditions (mine's autism). It allows us to expand beyond the norm because people who dont have struggles often dont feel the need to change or imrpove their communication skills.
I have a similar story. Painfully shy and awkward and super introverted as a kid, finally in my 20s I said enough and started forcing myself to go out and talk to strangers (at events, not just like on the street), and then I started a podcast, and now I have a RUclips channel and stream sometimes and people think I'm a huge extrovert. It's practice + pushing yourself to grow :)
My son’s Tourette’s started to reveal itself when he was 8. Every Touretter’s experience is different, his was a combination of large physical ticks, sleep vocalizations, and a number of organizational and learning deficits. School was a challenge but like you, he found ways to manage and overcome. He has learned to channel his Tourette’s into unique strengths that have helped him to be successful in his work, a loving husband, and a dedicated father. I could not be more proud of him. And I hope you have the same pride in yourself.
I wish so much I had parents like you. I have the opposite family. I can't begin to think about what I have to hear from my family about. It had me depressed for 2 years of my life. I was 11 or 12. It started to me when I was 8 too. I'm so proud of you, I don't know who you are but you are a absolutely great and wonderful parent. You don't know how lucky your son is and how much your support means to him and will help him through his journey until you see what a kid without that support goes through and how hard it is for them. You are truly a great parent. I hope you have a great life man.

What an intelligent, inciteful young woman. She has such a wonderful, warm personality.
The thought of someone being that depressed at 9 years old is so damn sad.
Yeah it affects you for life. I had been hideously abused and abandoned and beaten and gaslighted by ten years old. All the while kept away from doctors and other kids so as to keep my abusers safe from discovery. Evil people.
The saddest thing I've learned in life is that my story of depression from the age of 6 is in no way rare.
For real. And to think its normal today. But that's what the government in the US wants.
9 years of depression is nothing compared with ppl with lifetime chronic depression. That’s the worst one
@@IcanseeeverythingwhatyouDohere i said a 9 year old with depression, not someone with 9 years of depression. Also don't gatekeep being depressed
@@gjaeigjiajeg - As long as you weren't an only child without pets you should have learned to defend against that.

@@phydeux Not sure if you're reading this in the full context of the conversation, but you've kind of furthered my point. You KNOW to be on your guard around pets and toddlers. In this instance, if she didn't let me know up front, I wouldn't have known that there would be unwarned attacks. So not only am I not prepared for it, but what if I hit her back in self defense because I genuinely thought it was an attack? Verbal ticks like suddenly blurting out a random sound is one thing, but something physical needs to be managed on my part, which cannot be achieved without information. And if given the information up front, I would sensibly keep myself at least an arm's length away so that I can evade or react gently on time.

As a person with Tourette’s I can relate to so much of her experiences. It is so detrimental to your social life. Having no social life can lead to depression. The internet provides a great means of interaction due to the ability to simply type things as opposed to say things.
Keep on going dude, and as she does, turn that weakness into your best weapon. Explain that first, and everyone appreciates that funny difference having you around instad of a regular boring human being. At least i would be glad, as StweetAnitas audience is.
@@BurnoutBop It gets tiresome having to introduce yourself like that. Introducing yourself as your ailment is a terrible feeling and you begin to indentify as your ailment. Fortunately for me, my ticks are not loud or obnoxious like hers, so I tend to hide it until someone notices. I have known some people for years and they don't even know I have tourette's because I hide them. Sometimes I will do a facial one that I can't hide and people will say "wtf was that?" And that's when I tell them. PS, it's NOT funny, and I AM a regular human being.

And we still should protect her at all cost! Some still dont get her or are extremely jealous n get her stuff taken down. Butt hurt SJWs i swear! They are terrible.
