don't necessarily trust everything he says. when he says it cost 2-3bn that's probably counting all their neural compute development over 10+ years. A100 is just a simpler version of their GPUs with more of the neural cores, it was probably very inexpensive to develop because they had it already. They literally share architecture name between the GPU and NPUs even though nvidia still call them GPUs when they are almost all tensor cores. I forget what they call them, tensor GPUs? same architecture they just remove the raytracing cores and add more tensor cores. they still have some cuda cores for a bit more general processing. Ampere wasn't the first design to have tensor cores, Volta got them in 2017. Their latest chip is also pretty much just two chips glued together and then hyped as if 8x faster. He is the hype man. And fun fact because it is pretty much the same chip as a 4090 it costs them maybe 150$ to make plus the ram and they sell each one for 35000$. So the hype man is robbing you blind. Shame AMD hasn't yet burst their bubble because tensor chips are not hard to make. it's not like new x86 architectures. hopefully soon they will be super inexpensive. All those fomo companies wasting tens of billions each on 40x overpricing... in a rush to be first when in reality it's the algorithm that matters. and they don't have that one
