There's no ramifications if you win or lose. They're just regular season games at the end of the day. Play-in cheapens the 82 game season if a single game or two can chuck a full season of performance in the garbage. Again, it's manufactured b.s. to attempt to make things exciting when instead, they could just play harder in the regular season like they used to to make things exciting.

The reason for the NBA Cup is that the players don't try hard enough on the regular season, hence the monetary incentive on winning the NBA Cup. So the NBA manufacture BS (as you say) to make them try harder so that games can be more exciting and it was a success, that's why it is implemented once again this season.
