The safety investigation revealed that the SK75 Spectra lifting line did not release normally from the helicopter’s hook when commanded, after the tower lift. This was primarily due to the attachment of the lifting line fixed loop directly to the hook, instead of using a shackle and chain arrangement between the lifting line and the hook.
This is another good illustration of just how much net energy (about 30%) is used to oppose the turning force reaction to the spinning rotor blades, and why coaxial helicopters like the Russian Ka-50 are so powerful. The entire helicopter folds in two when that tail force is taken away. Happens with all of them -- even the big ones.

Same here saw that too he was pretty close to blades when they broke apart….
If you replay the video...you will notice the guy the other side pulled the cable resulting in decrease of the distance between the cable and the main rotor. I wont blame that guy also because what i believe is... its really hard to gauge the diameter when you don't actually see the rotor because of high rpm and at the same time you are focusing on the work...i guess most of us might have gone through similar situation in our life( not helicopter..in general)........I would say cables & helicopters are never friends...it needs proper planning and precision.....There is a lack of proper planning and SOP ...what i see....
Well, yes, you're right. If they had thought ahead about what might follow from this, then either the cable would have been fixed at another point, or it would have had to be released from the top of the tower first. Then you should have tried to pull the cable from the hook of the helicopter.
But later, after the accident, everyone is smarter. Not before.
saw that
Wich guy ? The orange one on the left ?
@@lio220no, the one behind the chap in orange on the right.
@@jubbaronny no, the guy to left of the chopper, he pulled the cable that attached to bottom of the chopper cause the cable to be within rotor blades, replay and see the cable to the left,
Bro the door and tale came off instantly, what’s holding it together two screws?
I was wondering that myself. I think it’s an indication of the insane amount of instant force that occurred when that cable snagged and jolted the heli.
Million dollars machine VS few dollar cable. Who would have thought who wins.
my heart genuinely dropped, ive never seen something this scary not even any of the american body cam footage compares to this. something about this just made my heart skip a beat
I remember this when I was studying in Auckland - there was a massive commotion of lights / sirens in the city. Glad everyone was OK, Helicopters are amazing machines but vunerable!
You are right. This was clearly an accident but I would NOT trust helicopters a bit. They fall from the sky like a stone if something goes wrong. My friend is an emergency doctor and has to work sometimes with the helicopter crew. ALL of the helicopter doctors had already crashed with a helicopter and obviously and luckily survived but these things are ticking time bombs. These doctors are tough cookies.
@@eily_b 100% agree; I’d never voluntarily hop in a chopper . I’m getting my pilot license - but will never get my helicopter. Props to the doctors risking their lives in helicopters !! 😅😅
That guy pulling on the cable was beyond lucky...
Cable vs Spinning Blade...Cable Wins
no one is gonna talk about the guy who runs up and jumps and pulls the cable down. i think he was supposed to unhook it not pull on it like that
And nearly killed himself and the pilot.
Seriously... what did they expect. Landing a helicopeter with spinning rotors with so many cables hanging. Absolute tools
Если честно, я тоже не могу такого понять. Тросы, кабели, мачты, порыв ветра все сделали, чтобы разбить вертолет.
Damn I know that feeling, always happens on GTA when trying to land at the airport
That running cameraman has lost his best scene available.
Actually, that cameraman is the one whocaptured this footage and uploaded this video
@@CommunismNeverWorked I meant the cameraman inside this video.
Yes, that's the guy who also captured this video. He explained it in the description.@@fadjarroosdianto6079
@@fadjarroosdianto6079 He did set up multiple cameras! The one that captured the video we are watching was running by itself and filmed him also running across the view with *another* camera.
パイロットの方の動きがマネキンのようにやばいですね・・・
I dont understand. I work alot with helicopters as i maintain and service the main power grid lines in my country. why dident the pilot disconect the line from the tower? if it was a manual release or it was fixed to the tower then why dident the pilot disconect the line from his helicopter?
Yes they have an electric release and a manual release for the hook. What would happen if they both failed? Pilot would do what he did, not seeing the guy wires.
Task saturation maybe?
Never got a full report on the problem. My guess is both releases failed and the pilot had no choice. Leaving them without a choice, but land.
@@flyprincess69 Yeah, I think the pilot was just about to drop it or couldn't drop it as you say.
@@TheTruthKiwi The release mechanism failed so the plan was to get as low as possible and then manually release. Presumably, the pilot didn't want to get any lower to avoid hitting the wires. But since the other guy still couldn't reach, he jumped to grab it which caused the accident.
The guy that grabbed the cable and caused the accident...I wonder what his hand feels like?
WOOOW classic youtube video, i watched this back in 2011 when I was six 😁
How come nobody saw it coming? It's so obvious that the cable was screaming "DANGER"!
Just because the pilot survived the crash does not guarantee that he will survive a half folded chair.
You can see the guy in black jump up and pull on the wire right before the blades hit it. I'm sure he thought it would actually pull back instead of tightening, but even so this was really dodgy to attempt. Even in the description this cameraman says he noticed the cable was too close to the blades, so good on him for noticing. I don't know how the others didn't. Glad everyone is okay though
What did the blades hit
Just updated the description, plenty to read for you.
@@murrayjob thank you
Why did you reupload this video

Loose cable, rotating blades. What could go wrong
The cable, u can’t see it
you can
The Health & Safety report that was generated from this was *unbelievable* but you can find it online.
‘A spokesperson responsible for chartering the aircraft stated “this is the *one* thing we *didn’t* want to happen.”’
😧
Never understood why the pilot insisted on descending with his sling attached to his basket and still dangling from the top of this tower... If the guy who tries to free it causes contact with the rotor, the same result would still have happened a few seconds later while continuing to descend, especially since there is another fixed cable. Probably lack of communication with the pilot or radio problem..!!!!!!!!! Too bad for this machine which didn't ask for anything.....😕😡
The pilot was most likely just about to drop the cable.
I was wondering who was that first brave guy that went to help the pilot. If it was you congrats, good job helping him.
Could of been worse, the chopper could of hit the tower that they had just put up.
Well that sound effect will guaranteed be dubbed into the next STAR WARS Movie as a....."Turbo Laser."
All those observes watching from the ground and nobody could warn him about that cable !! 👎
People on the ground did react quickly the moment the helicopter is about to crash. Crazy
Just read the report, it's the guy at 0:34 pulling the cable that made it hit the rotor blades.
0:30 Look in the background closely there is a man jumping and grabbing the cable so the cable went into the propel
The dude grabbing the wire didn’t slept in trig class?
I’m surprised that helicopter didn’t blow up, the fact these man ran to help straight away is courageous
if you look closely.
The guy in Black just below the heli grabbed the cable which made it tension up and got near the blades and then got caught by the blades.
why the fark is it trying to land with a cable thether to it?
Horrible accident. Glad that no one was badly hurt. Like every accident it's THE millisecond that changes everything...
The guy in the black outfit jumped up and pulled the cable, when he did that it put tension on the cable which got in the rotors of the helicopter. I hope an investigation is done because that individual is the sole reason this incident occured. If you're wondering where it happened, 1:44. Put at the slowest speed possible and you'll find the culprit
Guy in black is fired… why the hell would he pull on the cable…
With that cable hanging there, I could already see what was coming. YIKES!
Interesting the blades (and sleeves) remained somewhat attached to the Starflex. Looks like spherical thrust bearings or their bolts took the hit. Incredible how strong all that stuff is! I wonder where the engine sheared from the xmsn. Freewheel?
What is the purpose of the steel cable? I’m not sure why you would ever need to anchor a helicopter
to lift what its attached to
Hey fellas! See that cable?
Mad respect to the bros that jumped straight in to help him!
I've seen bits and pieces of this in other videos. i guess they cant understand English about the "do not copy" part. glad to hear it wasnt near as bad as it could have been.
This brings back the awful memory of Twilight Zone The Movie. 1982, Vic Morrow and 2 children were killed on set by a
helicopter. I’m happy for the immediate response of rescue and hope for a speedy recovery. 😢
Why did this guy pulled the cable ?!
how could they NOT see the cable getting close to the rotor blade 😐 kinda seem they were literally waiting for it to happen, just watching the cable get closer and closer.
Wow the sheer amount of force and strain you can see is quite terrifying
Wow - so well caught on film. Was that camera on a tripod ? A man with another tripod ran across the screen moments beforehand . Love the shaky folding chair they found for him to sit in.
It was. Read the description
Read the video description lady - people write those for a reason.
OMG 😳 that was bad. So lucky . I'm glad everyone was ok and the ground crew too.
Pilot was almost out the side of the aircraft when it first hit!
The rotor blades have sucked in the steel cable
What were they thinking?? I saw the accident 15 seconds before it happened
Camera man is a total Legend jumping in to help
All that for a Christmas tree?!?! Not fucking worth it if someone’s life is on the line!!!!!
ohhh i see. its there job though i dont get what ur saying have u seen people drive cranes or anything
Who agrees this looks like a movie scene?
There is something about the movements that looks so strange. I don't know what to make of it.
“Hey guys! What about that cable over there?”
“Should be good.”
“Yea, and John’s solid, he’s got this.”
“Ok”
The safety investigation revealed that the SK75 Spectra lifting line did not release normally
from the helicopter’s hook when commanded, after the tower lift. This was primarily due to
the attachment of the lifting line fixed loop directly to the hook, instead of using a shackle and
chain arrangement between the lifting line and the hook.
What in the world is up with the jump cut??? Why did you not show the remaining footage from the first camera?
Because you can see him relocating just before the accident happened - therefor the switch to #2
@@oskarn5384 That explains nothing. It would have been better to let the original angle play out before showing other angles.
@@bricaaron3978 It does tho. If they did show the whole thing from the same camera - that angle.. all you'd see would be somebody running to another point with a camera and not so much on the helicopter? Most likely some sky and from side to side from the running with the camera 😅 That explains why the switch to camera B you know...
Wow the pilot actually gets thrown out of the helicopter, then lands back inside the helicopter in the rear hold as it falls under him.
I was wondering how he got in the back from the pilot seat.
