Working conditions in the VFX industry are harsh as studios are working to prevent that part to organise. That's part of the reason why they can afford to make an amazing piece like this for SNL. Also, this is of course orders of magnitude cheaper than the "real" VFX that goes into cinematic projects, because the subtle honing of fine details is what makes it real hard, and stuff like this is always a bit rough on the edges.

I think that's kind of the joke. It's basically making fun of Neil Druckman and saying calling him a master storyteller is akin to calling the Mario Kart "writers" master storytellers. Holy crap, this is a masterclass of a sketch. The attention to detail, the intentional overacting, the high production value, and just all the little things here and there.. Simply awesome.

A bad movie or show with "lots of lbgqa" representation gets a high score and if the public doesn't like them, then they're called biggots etc. A good movie that doesn't have the same representation gets a much lower score and is accused of "pandering to the bigots" .. you either make your movie into rupaul or you're a biggot.
Luigi's Mansion is a different series of games where once finished hunting the ghost within, Luigi is given a mansion. The mansion from the first fame lloks exactly like this so I'd say excellent research done here. 😃
As a guy who knows the Mario series so much, this is definitely one of the craziest things to ever exist. I love the actors, they really did great with their roles.
It's almost like the slightly bigger budget or equally budget version of Mario Warfare! At the very least the latter is a real series, so there's that haha.
I grew up playing Mario 1. This is Dope. One of my favorite movies growing up is the Wizard and probably Super Mario World is my favorite. Pedro is an amazing actor and nothing but respect for this guy. "Let's Go".
There would be accuracy if they shout out banana blocking or item blocking. Essentially if you have an item you can hold the throw button to dangle it behind you while driving and this blocks red shells

Not only are these VFX impressive, they were done within a couple of days. They usually don’t start filming the shorts til about late Thursday. Truly great work from the SNL production team
Pretty sure the pre production for these pre-recorded skits is done well in advance. No way you could pull this off in a week, let alone a couple of days.
I think they had to have had the idea and started preproduction a while back whenever he signed on to host. Good timing to get the tone of TLOU down with only 3 episodes in, but they had the trailers and games to work off for reference too.
This feels like the writers were kicking around this idea for a long, long time. That mushroom line? That red shell joke? Well known tropes but far too polished for a weekend rush.

Yes we did absolutely make it in less than a week, none of this existed before Wednesday. I did the pre-production design of the world, which I stayed up Tuesday night sketching on my iPad. I also designed a photo-composite we printed as a 70 foot wide backdrop that also served as design direction for the VFX team. I also designed and animated the title graphics in Post. We brought in a bunch of extra VFX artists to get it done and it was the largest stage set we’ve ever built. I’m sleeping it off today but prepping a post with my work soon. It will also appear in a behind the scenes that we are editing now and that’ll show up online in the coming week.”
They need to get him guest hosting again. He was just so good and he was clearly loving it - it felt like they gave him every idea they had and he just said, "Yeah, I'll do it." The cast also seemed to be cracking up a lot more than normal.

A bad movie or show with "lots of lbgqa" representation gets a high score and if the public doesn't like them, then they're called biggots etc. A good movie that doesn't have the same representation gets a much lower score and is accused of "pandering to the bigots" .. you either make your movie into rupaul or you're a biggot.

I grew up playing Mario 1. This is Dope. One of my favorite movies growing up is the Wizard and probably Super Mario World is my favorite. Pedro is an amazing actor and nothing but respect for this guy. "Let's Go".

Not only are these VFX impressive, they were done within a couple of days. They usually don’t start filming the shorts til about late Thursday. Truly great work from the SNL production team
Pretty sure the pre production for these pre-recorded skits is done well in advance. No way you could pull this off in a week, let alone a couple of days.
I think they had to have had the idea and started preproduction a while back whenever he signed on to host. Good timing to get the tone of TLOU down with only 3 episodes in, but they had the trailers and games to work off for reference too.
This feels like the writers were kicking around this idea for a long, long time. That mushroom line? That red shell joke? Well known tropes but far too polished for a weekend rush.

“Hello. Yes we did absolutely make it in less than a week, none of this existed before Wednesday. I did the pre-production design of the world, which I stayed up Tuesday night sketching on my iPad. I also designed a photo-composite we printed as a 70 foot wide backdrop that also served as design direction for the VFX team. I also designed and animated the title graphics in Post. We brought in a bunch of extra VFX artists to get it done and it was the largest stage set we’ve ever built. I’m sleeping it off today but prepping a post with my work soon. It will also appear in a behind the scenes that we are editing now and that’ll show up online in the coming week.”
