This is the problem South American teams need to overcome. They lose their nerves when they trail by 2 goals or more. Which is why you rarely see South American teams winning by coming from behind nowadays. South America has more talented players than Europe, but Europeans have a better team spirit.

“Straight out of [a] young boy’s mind” cracked me up, but it is probably the most accurate description I’ve ever heard of this game. It really is like something a kid kicking around a ball on a pitch in Augsburg would dream up.
As for Brazil, their play was more akin to those nightmares we all have where you are powerless to stop what is going on around you and it feels like you are running in quicksand.

The third goal was Brazil players never expected. They thought the match will go balance, but at that point It was not.
It's also the psychology impact to their overconfidence (Look at how emotional they are while singing the national anthem). They are the host. They are the most successful nation in the competition.
They felt the third goal was like a big punch to their expectations. I see their face after the 3rd goal was like "Should we hold this scoreline?" "We should end this match early, come on!"
Might probably they also were thinking if Neymar and Thiago played, these easy 3 goals would have never happened.
You are not the only one felt speechless. Listen to the commentary line of the 4th goal.

Unfortunately for Brazil, Germany refusing to run up the score is almost more embarrassing, as they still scored 7. Everyone knows it could have been double figures, but it is like the big kids took pity on the small kids and went through the motions.

German coach Joachim Löw recently revealed in an interview with the German soccer and sports magazine 'kicker' that he actually raised his voice at halftime. First of all, to remind the players that they should be focused in the second half as he remembered the 4-4 draw against Sweden in which they were leading by 4 goals. Secondly, it mattered to him not to ridicule the Brazilians, especially not in their home country.
He deserves a lot of credit for this, initiating the example the German team would set with their great yet humble play. Fans recognised and appreciated this and the vast majority of Germans were compassionate with the Brazilians rather than ridiculing them. All of this created a lot of respect for one another. Sometimes a match is more than just football and this was one of those instances. Löw first and foremost deserves to be lauded for this classy act. Without his address at halftime, the 'legacy' of this match might very well be a different one.

The fact Löw told them to hold back in the second ridiculed Brazil even more because they were no match to the Germans at this point anymore. So I would have told them to just keep on, if the match ended 14-0 it wouldn't have changed the outcome anyways, it was decided from the point they started the match. We did really start to feel bad for the Brazilians and simply could not celebrate the goals to follow. We were merely acknowledging them in disbelief.

Now, I hope our nation AND our players will become so angry and aggressive like the have been in 2014 for 2024. Defeat after defeat and disgrace, that a stabbing against all European nations will happen. I am unfortunately disappointed and also sad about how Germany became overall between 2018 and 2022

Before the match I was like: "Yeah, the Brazilians will sing their anthem with pride and start the match with much determination but quickly they will see that they are just not capable of messing with this German side and as soon as Germany scores the first time, they would be like 'f*ck, what now? We have no clue how to deal with them and no idea how to stand a chance at all!' and sort of fall apart."
But I would have never expected something like THIS! I thought it would be 4-0, 5-1 or the like after 90 minutes but it was just 5-0 after 25min played... It's 7-1 only because Germany slowed down. If they would have continued as if nothing has happend, it would have been something around 15-0 in the end. It's just crazy.

Maybe the best call of any sports game ever, to be alone in the broadcast booth for a world cup semi final, let alone this semi final, and to give the call this announcer did, just legendary. Manages to keep the audience entertained during an absolute meltdown by brazil. To do the job he did given the context and the fact he was alone is an all time performance. Lines like “the little boy is crying his eyes out”, “theyre all going to score at this rate” and “its oscar, oh hes got a goal. And now its brazil one, germany SEVEN” are as iconic to me as the game itself. Just not the same watching that first 30 minutes chopped up into quiet highlight clips. Glad this is available as the full game on youtube now

Also, all of Brazil's offence were long shots and misplaced passes by Germany. Even before they fell apart. Sure, they were missing some key players with Thiago and Neymar, but it's no excuse to ignore every tactical aspect of modern football.

When we went upstairs to grab some beers after the 5-0 every single Italian person who watched the game upstairs was applauding our team. Surreal moment, surreal night... still gives me goosebumps.
