Thanks man! ... Now I have the cleanest 1999 dodge Dakota coolant tank in town. My neighbors keep coming over to check it out and sometimes they take pictures..
For those who are asking, sulfamic acid can be bought at a hardware big box store in crystal form. It's normally used to clean rust and grout and mortar haze. A 1lb. tub of sulfamic crystals is less than $8. All you do is follow the instructions and dissolve it in water. Plastic itself is non-reactive to acids; that's why containers for acid products are made of plastic (and it's cheaper than glass and won't shatter). Plastic is engineered to be fairly resistant to many solvents, so you're not going to run into trouble with it being chemically damaged unless you start using things like acetone or paint stripper.
@@joaspereira5258 Or you could do what the video poster actually did, and just buy a new tank. The extra nipple fittings magically turned from brass to plastic. It is a fake video in an attempt to get views. It is ridiculous.
I wanted to thank you. After several different levels of attempts, soaps, bleach, and had minimal success with acetone and bolts, I went to a home store and got some of your recommended sulfamic acid crystals ( in the flooring grout section). I mixed it to medium concentration in the tank, then again the next day at high concentration rate for the last little dirty patches inside of the tank. I did agitate it a few times to get the deep carbon builds and rust stains out, but just sitting overnight full did most of the work. Much improved! Greatly appreciate it.
LOL right. Like the engine building channel where they start with a junkyard engine, but after the teardown they realize nothing is salvageable so they replace everything with new and factory reconditioned parts. I think they used the valve cover, everything else was new.
This is a good video missing some VERY crucial details. 1) what is the H3NSO3 Activator? Nowhere on here or the inter web can I find any details on what that is. 2) what is the concentration of the H3NSO3??? I just wasted $14 on some H3NSO3 for a translucent fuel tank cleaning with Zero results after 24 hours. I imagine a lot of other people are going to have the same results without this crucial detail. Is it 3/4 cup per gallon? Stronger or weaker. It would be easy to add what you used to the description. Thanks.
The problem with these is not the color of aging it is actually they become cracky and fragile. The plastic loses it's strength due to heat and cold cycles and chemical reactions that occur. Better buy a new one for 10 or 20 bucks.

Hello there I bought 1kg of powdered sulfamic acid after watching your video. Then I mixed some water with powdered sulfamic acid and made it liquid. I did the application you did in this video, but I could not get a good result. What do you think could be the problem.
SiMa Mo. You are kidding right? I am not telling anyone to replace a part just because it is dirty. I’m simply telling you as a BMW Master technician that plastic cooling system components have a very short life due to extreme heat cycling. If you were so worried that the earth is going down hill why didn’t you mention something about the he chemicals that were being used to restore this plastic to its condition? And the fact that the appearance doesn’t hinder its ability to work properly? Hypocrite!
For replacement parts perhaps not worth it but I restore 50 year old cars and the overflow container has always been a tough one. Even NOS ones (if available) can be discoloured so I’m going to give this a try. While toxic in high concentration, Sulfamic Acid breaks down to benign compounds in the environment so it’s much less harmful than you would think, unlike the junk being flushed out.
@ the big picture. If your goal is form over function by all means soak 50 year old plastic parts in a mixture of acid/water. If quality parts cannot be found I think the next action should be making a quality component out of a different material. Nothing will irritate a customer worse than a split plastic cooling system component.
Hi there I bought 1 kg of sulfamic acid in the form of a powder. In what proportions should you mix it in 10 liters of water? I want to whiten the coolant tank from my Porsche 944 in a large bucket
Why haven't you responded to anyone's questions as to the mixture you used. So that others can get the same result. Thanks. And to the naysayers.....There are alot of vintage vehicles that you can not go out and buy a cheap chinese replacement ! Thumbs Up !
FWIW you can buy in powdered form at box stores and the instructions for mixture will be on back. Might be brand specific. Home depot has it in 1 lb drums so you can probably read the label and figure out what you would need to make a gallon or 2. Here is a link to the product there but you can also find the same stuff on amazon. . The product is billed as a tile grout cleaner so I can understand why it would be useful to take off the scale deposit inside the bottle. I have a coolant tank of a motorcycle I will probably try it out over the weekend as well. Hope this helps you get the answer you needed. I know sometimes people post a video and never reply. it gets annoying. www.homedepot.com/p/Custom-Building-Products-Aqua-Mix-1-lb-Sulfamic-Acid-Crystals-050231/300176044

You can tell he added coffee or something to the water to make it look like the dirt was coming off. Please don't waste your time buying chemicals and potentially destroying a good part because it's dirty. If it lasted 15 years another new one will last another 15. Buy a new one online if you are cheap like me 😆
Hello there
I bought 1kg of powdered sulfamic acid after watching your video.
Then I mixed some water with powdered sulfamic acid and made it liquid.
I did the application you did in this video, but I could not get a good result. What do you think could be the problem.
I did the same nothing happened i think he fooled us and the video is fabricated
It’s plastic my friend. If it’s that old it is in need of replacement. Pretty awesome transformation though 👍🏻
You are the reason why earth is going down hill.
Some parts there aren’t any replacements or they are not correct.
Hi there
I bought 1 kg of sulfamic acid in the form of a powder. In what proportions should you mix it in 10 liters of water?
I want to whiten the coolant tank from my Porsche 944 in a large bucket
Impressive result and something I will use restoring cars.
Thanks !
Why haven't you responded to anyone's questions as to the mixture you used. So that others can get the same result. Thanks. And to the naysayers.....There are alot of vintage vehicles that you can not go out and buy a cheap chinese replacement ! Thumbs Up !
Video is fake.
You can tell from a mile that the "restored" tank is actually a brand new one.
@@dan_6915 You're a blithering idiot if you think it's fake.
Vander's Garage and you have shit for brains if you think its real. Its obvious its a new tank.
@@samuelflores8993 Don't be an ASSHOLE, ASSHOLE !
What's the mix ratio? How many parts acid to water?
I will try to get the yellow coffee stains off my teeth. Just not sure how it’s going work when I get into the dishwasher. Thanks for cool trick “Better Living thru Chemistry”. Thank you!
@Disfrutar la vida, said in Spanish “JaJaJa” which in English is “HaHaHa”.
If this works and no patent, put ingredients in nice package and schedule a “Shark Tank” appearance asking $1,000,000 start up and 60% of each sale going forward. Mr. Wonderful is a car guy, he would jump on it like a duck on a June Bug!
I'm confiused about the ACID its use..is it ACID that we use to clean our floor?
Sulfamic acid, the stuff that cleans deposits from toilets
Cleanest Tank I Have Ever Seen!!....Good Job!!
I now know what it looks like, inside a dishwasher, during a cycle! Lmao 😅 That's awesome 👍 great video
My exact thoughts
That’s the first thing I did with my GoPro
Putting the lid into acid would most definitely deform and knacker the rubber o ring seal. (Unless removed before hand)
Just saying like
No it doesn't. Brake fluid and solvents do that. I've soaked a lot of things in acid. Never had a rubber issue.
What you use to clean it???
Been cheaper to buy a new expansion tank
even cheaper without one.
an new expansion tank for my car is $120. The acid is $8 on Amazon
@@DavidMartin916 Rock salt is only £1.
Now that you've made a clean spot, you now would have to clean the rest of the vehicle with the same process.
I am genuinly impressed
If you could share what the exact cleaning chemical's used would be amazing. A source as we are guessing what was used and for how long
It all says at the top left corner
I fast forwarded it so I didn't see anything telling what he was using looks like lime away I would suggest sodium hydroxide commonly used to clean air conditioning coils and degrease commercial kitchens
@@ericschulze5641 H3NSO3 Acid @1:19 . It explains what he is using. People are blind
Can't you read the description, dummy?
@@fernandodm1418 lovely? i was referring to the brands. We do appreciate you, but would like to make a small request of kindness. This is your's truly dummy #1
First video I’ve taken the time to comment and like in a long time. 👌🏽
Looks great but how do you repair the sencor
How many H₃NSO₃ - Sulphamic Acid Mixture you used to make mixture ?
All of it.
