In my early 20's I owned a small business specializing in leather/vinyl repair. It's a very rewarding industry, both financially and visually. I loved walking up to a vehicle with destroyed leather seats and say to myself, "I can fix that". The sad reality is for both myself and the unwitting persons who bought those vehicles, was the product only last for a few months at best before the dye's and repair product started deteriorating. After several years I began to feel like I was operating a "scamming" business, knowing full well that every single car that I "repaired" would soon be back to its original state. The only repairs that were permanent were carpet dye and even then, if it's a red stain, it would eventually begin to bleed back through.. I'm now 48, on my third business (sold the other two) and love what I do for a living... I'm sure the automotive repair industry is still alive and thriving, I only hope the products of today hold up better than they did 20+ years ago.. Great video btw.
@@Volteran if they don't sit on them and keep them in a temperature controlled garage and out of direct sunlight, they might last a year.. It's a temporary repair. If you want long term, you can have individual sections of seats replaced so you don't have to spend a whole lot on a new seat cover. This is a very inexpensive option for those with genuine leather seats, which can cost several thousand to replace (per seat). Cloth or fabric seats can also have individual bolsters replaced, but the cost of a new seat cover for a cloth seat is usually a fraction of that of the cost of a new leather seat cover.. @bina nocht really hard to answer without putting my hands on it. For the age of the car I would worry about how dry the leather could be or thin areas of wear. I wish I could give a better answer but without seeing it and feeling it its hard to answer. I've seen 3-4 year old cars look like 40 years of wear as well as the opposite of that.
@bina nocht absolutely do not use any conditioners or especially oils on painted/finished leather. If there are any cracks or raw areas the oil especially will soak into the leather and you will not be able to get a new finish to stick. Some conditioners can make the job very difficult or near impossible. Klasse vinyl, leather, rubber treatment works amazing. However only the clear formula not the milky one.
@bina nocht I've had a client that oiled his seats and there were areas that the finish was completely worn off so the leather soaked the oil in. Nothing I could do to extract the oil to then get my finish to stick.

@@captainamericaamerica8090 I used to think that too until I looked up the science behind the clear coat. The polyurethane coat is microporous, allowing the leather to still breathe.
In such cases, a good job is to completely replace problem areas of the leather. And if there is a difference in color, then only in this case you need to touch up.
The result certainly looks good. The question I have is how long will the finish last before having to be re-applied? Looks like a good strategy if you are doing this to sell the car. It will not last, basically untill someone puts his ass on chair :D and it only will look ok on photos ,pointless, the second buyer will come and look will say bye. I have boots that have this type of repair done 6 years ago, no signs of cracking, and my leather bucket seat in my expedition still looks like new beige deer skin leather. I hear that graphene in an oil modified enamel is a new top coat solution that works in synergy with TPE binders and provides incredible UV refraction characteristics.
What kind or paint or dye is used? Automotive paint or is there a special kind
@@briannthara9109 I prefer to use acrylic based dyes. It seems to work best. I haven't tried anything else yet.

How do you keep leather grain still visible after restoration?
In this video, seats look nice but leather looks fake since pores and lather characteristic surface is kind of lost with sending and paint layering.
Bondo & spray paint. Gotcha 👍
And a 12 pack
very nice job Sir. I wonder how long will the restauration last after the owner starts using the seats again daily.
Im very sceptical about sitting on these in summer time and white jeans
I only wear white jeans to the discotheque
Rule number 1. Don’t ever wear white jeans
You should be, this repair is like those ramen bondo repairs on tiktok lol
Take it bleue 😁
I’m sceptical of anyone wearing white jeans 🤣
Job well done - Nice to have your partner assist too Very impressed with the outcome.
This is sheer artwork. It takes dedication and lots of experience
I remember the guys on Wheeler Dealers doing this to a few cars, but I think they took them to a specialist. Getting a good finish really takes a lot of time and effort.

And they charge so much so best to just take your time at home and do 1 step a day.
Wow thats amazing! That looks like an art form that i wish i would to be able to do! The end result probably looks better than it was brand new
Thank you sir!
IT'S NO LONGER REAL NATURAL LEATHER. THAT'S WHY THERE ARE SO MANY DISLIKES!! REAL LEATHER NEEDS TO BREATHE. IT CAN'T NOW! 😩😩😣😣👎👎
@@captainamericaamerica8090 spoiler alert: they all seal it with plastic
@@captainamericaamerica8090 I used to think that too until I looked up the science behind the clear coat. The polyurethane coat is microporous, allowing the leather to still breathe.

I'm not really interested in painting/refinishing my leather. But the adhesive backing cloth is something I am definitely interested in.
Great job
Highly impressed
Great finish, just a shame you didn't do anything with the piping on the armrest
Yes, it would need new piping and the owner didn't want to go that far
I was thinking that but they look excellent now
ll
Damn, the result is awesome!
Thanks!
the question is for how long it will be like this....
In such cases, a good job is to completely replace problem areas of the leather. And if there is a difference in color, then only in this case you need to touch up.
I never knew leather cane be restoreð like this. Good job
Парни, Вы реально крутые🤘👍👏👏👏
Результат просто супер 🙌
The result certainly looks good. The question I have is how long will the finish last before having to be re-applied? Looks like a good strategy if you are doing this to sell the car. If you plan to keep the car, would it not make more sense long term, to have the seats professionally reupholstered?
It will not last, basically untill someone puts his ass on chair :D and it only will look ok on photos ,pointless, the second buyer will come and look will say bye. Proper way is simplly put new fabric and job done. While he spend bunch of money on paint on chemicals on all this crap. On cleaning tools etc, also time. It will take forever to fix it. And in the end you still have same crap. Just buy new lether same color remove old put new done.
Truely agree
I am not sure why this channel was recommended to me, but interesting nonetheless. Great job!
Great job.
You did a good demonstration.TY for the detail process break down.
Great job, magnificent work! How long are restored interiors expected to last before restoration is required again? Would it make sense to restore interior on a daily driver?
Nope, just use it before you sell the car. It's not really durable
I have absolutely no interest normally, but as ever RUclips shows you something interesting, good job 👍
Piekna robota 💪
Прекрасная работа?
Great work, I'm currently in the process of doing my car and I like what you've done.
An amazing transformation, makes me want to have a go at restoring a leather seat.
They really did turn out well! I need to restore my V70 Oak leather seats
