One of the biggest regrets of my life is that I was given an opportunity for a VIP viewing of a space shuttle launch at Cape Canaveral. I foolishly chose not to go. That was over 40 years ago, and I still regret my poor choice to not go. It does my heart good to see so many younger people who are essentially getting to relive the early days of America’s space exploration program with VIP status thanks to Elon Musk and all of the incredible SpaceX people. Also, I truly enjoy your interviews. There is just something about the way you go about it that it makes me feel like I’m there with you. Thank you so much.
Rejoce, my friend. If that is one of your biggest regrets in life you must be living pretty well. Also consider, you made that decision at that time because you had different priorities. You were a different person, and perhaps a less wise person. Never regret the folly of your youth. Wisdom comes with time.
Almost 39 years ago I got to see a shuttle on the launch pad very distantly away (just a small white shape). It had just had it's launch cancelled due to weather and they'd try again another day. That was January 1986 and the shuttle was Challenger.
Everyday Astronaut speculated yesterday that the problem could have been related to an antenna assembly at the top of the tower that was leaning suspiciously after the launch
I just watched CNN's coverage of this launch. They began with "serious environmental concerns" and ended with a very brief overview of the launch itself. It seems some media outlets struggle to separate SpaceX's accomplishments from Musk's political antics.

I struggle to find anyone my age (60's) who have any idea what's behind all these Integrated Test Flights. Thanks Ellie for taking the initiative to get out there and get some first hand experiences.

Just plan to stay in the area, go eat, or something. This kind of excitement is great for the community that supports the launch areas. Don't get frustrated with it, work with it!

That will make a positive influence on them later in life.
The view I had from my chair in front of my PC screen watching the RUclips video was excellent. Plus all the aerial views were "out of this world". Plus after the touch down in the gulf, it only took me 5 minutes to get out of my chair and go and get another cup of coffee. I use to work at the VAB in Cape Canaveral in the 80's. With an average pair of binoculars, people could get a great view of the shuttle launches from 10 miles away with much less traffic.
Even if you were over in Titusville, I remember watching Inspiration4 from there. Sure there's video on here, but there's nothing like seeing it in person.

The traffic issue is interesting. I had thought IFT 5 (we were there!) post-launch traffic was heavy because it was on a weekend. I guess we need to get there extra early for IFT 8, and figure on staying an extra day.
Elon needs to finish the 2nd tower to give him another booster diversion option to capture instead of dropping it in the gulf if the tower is damaged on liftoff.
OMG I saw this one live with my son, and it was incredible! We spent the Saturday before at Starbase, and that alone was worth the two, 15 1/2 hour days spent traveling from Georgia to see this amazing rocket and rocket factory in the middle of nowhere. Thanks, Ellie, for the update on why the catch was aborted. We were a little bummed to not see that catch and hear that epic sonic boom, but as I told my son: there will be LOTS of chances to see catches in the future, but how many people will get to see a booster land in the ocean and explode? We were also at Isla Blanca Park. We arrived at 11 & had good parking. We had about a 1/2 mile walk to where we watched. Great crowd & facilities were adequate for the crowd. Unfortunately, cell service was saturated. It was hard to get updates on X or RUclips from the coast - a little better at the pavilion. (StarLink recommended :) ) Getting out was something else. I had heard three hours & it was 3:30 before we exited the park. (I was glad we downloaded a movie on the phone to watch while waiting.) Roads on SPI were clear after getting out of the park but the causeway to Port Isabel was still solid tail lights over 4 hours after launch. (Cameron County & Port Isabel need a better plan to move traffic through town. All lights blinking yellow with traffic officers at intersections to allow side traffic as needed but keep main lanes flowing? Reverse flow on a lane on the other side?) Electric bikes or scooters & parking at hotel would be better in the future - there are a lot of rentals available in town.
SPI POLICE did a terrible job directing traffic! Just because bridge was clogged is no reason why residents of SPI couldn’t get home. In addition traffic lights were eventually manned and controlled. Seems by now they would have a plan? But No plan except high visibility?
I remember once getting stuck in traffic after a fireworks show in Vancouver WA. We didnt even get to the bridge to Portland until 3 AM. But it was worth it!! Sometimes we just need to plan ahead and relax. 😅
So how much did it cost to deliver a single banana from Starbase to the Indian Ocean? This might be a world record in terms of shipping cost compared to cargo cost
So glad I watched from Hwy 48. I was in Harlingen 30-40 minutes later on my way home after the launch. 😢I was stuck in traffic in Titusville watching the first Falcon Heavy/Tesla sports car launch, 5:30 to 9:00 to get to my cousins apt in Cape Canaveral. Miserable traffic
I think that the next big Starship event might be around Flight #9 Catching the booster, putting it back on the OLM. Then catching the Starship and mounting it back on the booster.
Shout out from The Angry Astronaut channel! Thank you for this update. I would like to find out what happened with the Starship flaps. Was there melting or burn-through? Is the thermal protection yet where they want it?
*I know we all hated that we didn't get a catch on this launch, but it's way better that they divert than try a risky catch.* The problem is that if something goes wrong with the booster catch severe damage could be done to the tower. Even once Tower B is complete, the towers need to be fully functioning in order to keep up with the pace of development. A damaged tower could mean *MONTHS* long delays and that would temporarily cripple Starship development. It's just not worth the risk to the tower to bring the booster back at this stage of development, so at the slightest hunch that something isn't right the booster gets diverted in order to protect the tower and the overall development schedule.
I’m curious to know why the launchpad hardware passed checks before the launch but failed afterwards. Apparently the launch itself is still causing damage to the launchpad. I’m sure SpaceX will redesign and/or harden the relevant hardware components
I got to see STS-119. Beautiful launch, because it was at twilight, and the colors of the setting sun projected into the plume were breathtaking. But, getting out was not as much fun. A five mile one lane road. I think it was over four hours after the launch before we finally made it to the highway.

Imagine within an hour, one starship can transportation entire armored battalion to anywhere in the world!
Thank God we have hypersonic missiles who can easily take care of big fat targets like that (just like aircraft carriers) if the Americans go as crazy as you mention here. Things are crazy enough as they are today.
@@JFJ12 Right, but always helps with the capability handy.
@@JFJ12You would think this would be used only once air superiority was established and all supersonic missile launch sites were destroyed or mediated by anti-missle systems.
@@bogususer2595 By that time the smartest people will have moved to the southern hemisphere I guess. America wonna fight BRICS, soon representing 2/3 of the world population, good luck with that.
Loved the Space button in the elevator.
The traffic jams are remiscent of the glory days of Apollo and space shuttle.
I've lived in Central Florida for 40 years, been in shuttle traffic more than a few times. Can't wait for Starship to launch from here.
Thank you Ellie ! Great reporting and great interviews. Didn't realize that was Mary Tiles Texas (from X) til she mentioned it. You're both awesome. The guys' interviews were interesting as well. Thx again for all your effort.
Great video Ellie 😁
Ellie the main reason I watch you I can't travel since I am a handicap Disabled veteran I watch you and enjoy space through you and SpaceX and The launch pad
4 hours From Bait Shop lot to Margaritaville! Would have walked, but had 2 in wheelchairs! Still loved the launch! Wilmington, NC.
🤗THANKS ELLIE FOR THE QUICK UPDATE 🧐🚀🚀🚀
Atta girl Ellie...love this report
We were also at Isla Blanca Park. We arrived at 11 & had good parking. We had about a 1/2 mile walk to where we watched. Great crowd & facilities were adequate for the crowd. Unfortunately, cell service was saturated. It was hard to get updates on X or RUclips from the coast - a little better at the pavilion. (StarLink recommended :) )
Getting out was something else. Reverse flow on a lane on the other side?)
Electric bikes or scooters & parking at hotel would be better in the future - there are a lot of rentals available in town.
Great post launch interviews Ellie!
Thank you for sharing, Ellie
Thanks for watching!
Thanks Ellie! Good video!
Very good presentation. You provide a more human side of this Movement. And this is a movement
It's still new enough that everything has to be absolutely perfect. Once they work out the bugs more, perfect will become more easy to do.
Thanks, Ellie, thoughtful report!
This was really great hearing from people who came to see it - some helpful tips for when I can make the trip!
...and loved the "Ellie in Space...on the street" interviews! 😆🙌
An Amphibious vehicle would be a great investment for starship launch tours. To beat the traffic
Great report, thanks for all of your great work!!!!
Nice to get the Vox Pops too. Thanks for all the enthusiasm.
I was down there when the booster was caught. Holy cow it was amazing!
So how much did it cost to deliver a single banana from Starbase to the Indian Ocean? This might be a world record in terms of shipping cost compared to cargo cost
😂
So glad I watched from Hwy 48. I was in Harlingen 30-40 minutes later on my way home after the launch. 😢I was stuck in traffic in Titusville watching the first Falcon Heavy/Tesla sports car launch, 5:30 to 9:00 to get to my cousins apt in Cape Canaveral. Miserable traffic
what a time to be alive, i am getting goosebumps just watching videos on YT,
I wonder incredible it must feel in person
I like the interview format and news format. But i subscribed because i could not find any interview formats anywhere. You do good job.
I think that the next big Starship event might be around Flight #9
Catching the booster, putting it back on the OLM. Then catching the Starship and mounting it back on the booster.
6:13 that was me and my brothers in the golf cart 😂
Got my Mechazilla T-shirt just in time!
Great and informative summary video. ❤
Thanks Ellie great reporting
Shout out from The Angry Astronaut channel! Thank you for this update. I would like to find out what happened with the Starship flaps. Was there melting or burn-through? Is the thermal protection yet where they want it?
*I know we all hated that we didn't get a catch on this launch, but it's way better that they divert than try a risky catch.*
The problem is that if something goes wrong with the booster catch severe damage could be done to the tower.
