The Fine Wine Show
Просмотров 337Месяц назад
On this episode we talk mostly about what Fine wine is NOT. We also discuss why you should be drinking nothing but Fine Wine. There's plenty of it and everything else is not as good or good for you....and Fine Wine does not equal expensive wine. Some of it may be, but you don't have to go down that road unless you feel you're ready for it.
The News Show

On this episode we talk about far-reaching news in the wine industry. Not one to relay news, The Average Wine Enthusiast breaks with tradition and produces some content that will eventually have gone stale. You'll want to know about the changes occurring now though. Enjoy and cheers!

The folks over at @vineroutes created a list of the Top 20 Wineries of Ontario for 2023. surprisingly, three of the wineries are from the Lake Erie North Shore region (LENS). I questioned the folks over at VineRoutes about their list and they suggested I do a blind tasting of wines. I thought it was a great idea. Here's the results.

Say NO To 'Go To' Wines
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.Год назад
On this episode The Average Wine Enthusiast tries to tell you why you should not have a "go to" wine. For one, there's too many wines in the world to try and only a certain amount of time to taste them. It doesn't make any sense to keep drinking the same wine. Not only that, but wine and more intrinsically, the wine world is changing in so many ways that any wine can never be the same over time...

Cheers! 🍷 SPOILER: The Beaujolais Cru from Moulin A Vent was the winner, if I had to pick one out of the three.

More Reasons To Steer Clear Of Production Wines

The Production Wine Show
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.Год назад
In our never-ending quest to develop our palate to fully enjoy the bottles of wine in our wine journey, it's good to know which wines to stay away from. A good place to start is the class of wines known as 'production wines'. These are wines are that are produced with less than stellar grapes and made in quantities that make it impossible to get the quality you deserve to be drinking.

      At one time Meomi was really good. I first purchased it at a Costco in Detroit was an immediate fan. Unfortunately, too many others did the same and made it too popular. We know what happens then; some conglomerate comes in, scoops it up and tries to maximize profits. That never ends well for the wine. Thanks for watching Dale!

    Crazy how a government just loves control over us, the people. In reality that control is something we give or allow them to have. If (and when) we want to remove that control, we far outnumber the idiot politicians. As an American, I can tell you that my country just loves control and as I said, we give it to them unfortunately. Hopefully, if Trump is elected this country will become free once again but I am not holding my breath. As for the WHO (U.N), the can stick their "information" where the sun doesn't shine. As an American, I do not want out New World Order control over me. As for wine sales dropping, look at the prices the wineries are charging for wine yet they still stay in business and refuse to drop their prices, I have no sympathy for them.

    As far as I know, Canada is not known for wine so that is probaly why you guys drink more import wine. As far as Health Ministers go, I think that most people have learned that the Canadian government and my government (U.S) both don't care about our health. With the miracle of the flu having dissapeared in the world (yeah, right), I think you get my point.

    • @theaveragewineenthusiast5359
      @theaveragewineenthusiast5359 Год назад

      The liquid that is made in those stores is not wine. Folks drink that concoction because they want to drink something that reminds them of wine; fruit flavours and alcohol-filled. Mostly the latter. Check out this article where they describe how wine kits used in those stores are made: winemakermag.com/technique/how-wine-kits-are-made You can't make wine from that chemistry experiment.

    Great topic and excellent info. I steer clear from production wine at all costs, ESPECIALLY in restaurants when ordering by the glass equates to drinking anything from sugar water to vinegar. I ALWAYS bring my own wine and rarely pay a corkage fee ( I give the extra gratuity to my server). Since Covid I’ve become quite the enthusiast and have put together a nice collection of “drink now” and cellar wines. I live in SW FLA so no actual cellar but I DO rent a wine storage cooler for aging. Great hobby, and YES, wine is good for you in SO many ways! Keep making vids! ✌️ 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 🙏

  • @dees9502
    @dees9502 Год назад

    I became a wine junkie during Covid when my 24 yr old daughter and chef at a 3 Michelin star NYC restaurant came home to hide from the bug. We dug into NUMEROUS wine clubs with mixed results. Right now I am sticking with wines solely purchased through WSJ Wines as they avoid production wines 100%. Some vineyards (worldwide) they actually purchase in order to preserve the quality and craft associated with the wine. I have a personal wine advisor/Somm aka sales guy that steers me towards what I like and what I can experiment with. VERY happy with the wines and the service. I’ll be in Montreal Jan 30 for several days, perhaps I’ll be able to try some Canadian wines! Anyway, my northern brother (I’m in FLA USA), it’s a pleasure to have stumbled upon your channel (no pun) and look forward to enjoying more of your content ✌️ 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 🙏

    Hey Mike, great information on the last two videos. It's funny how the "production wine" names you mentioned (which I call junk wines) are the wines I stay farrrrr away from. From my esrliest days of wine discovery, I have never enjoyed cheap wines or wines that are sweet or jammy. WHen it comes to whites, I need minerality, crispness (not carbonation), some fruit, acidty and overall body. When it comes to reds, I need leather, tobacco, tannins, cocoa etc. I think those other wines are for the most part made for a younger generation, a generation that doesn't have a developed palate. Yes, there are old people who drink them as well but I think they are morepeople who have drinking issues in general. I actually review wine and while I am sure you don't want me to place my links here I will tell you that last night I just reviewed the 2021 Wete, Chardonnay - Morning Fog for which I paid $16.99 and thought it was an enjoyable Chard you might want to check out. I bought it from my local supermarket so hopefully you will see it on your shelves there.

    case in point, regarding Wines here in Australia, Yellowtail is an abomination, yet, Wine store staff will tell you that it's their biggest seller.Made for the unknowing wine drinker. Here boutique wineries are low output so make up by charging three times more an larger wineries. Price does NOT always mean better quality.. Remember also different countries have different laws governing quality, and content. I am also on a wine journey living a hour's drive from 5 wine regions. I am spoiled for choice. cheers

    The problem here is that a wineries prices are almost always higher then they are in the stores. That $22 Cabernet Sauvignon that is "release price" will probably cost $15 in the stores AND, you won't pay shipping. That is the problem I find with buying from the wineries here in America anyway. The only thing I buy from a winery is a release that is not available in the stores and through the winery only.

    • @theaveragewineenthusiast5359
      @theaveragewineenthusiast5359 Год назад

      That situation never is the case here in Canada. I’ve bought my fair share of wine in stores in the US too near wine regions. This is a phenomenon that I wasn’t aware of. Maybe it only applies in <$20 bottles?

  • @TheDesertWineGuy
    @TheDesertWineGuy Год назад

    In referance to a wine being able to age, it all depends on the acidity level as well as (if it's a red) the level of tannins. If you are experienced with wine, you can do a simple tasting of tht wine and determine rather quickly if it is meant for cellaring. Now, this also depends on what someone considers a "wine" really is. If someone is looking at cellaring ANYTHING from Barefoot or Cupcake, they are in a great place actually as they are probably just getting into wine and are searching. They have the will to drink wine(?) and the interest to be educated on the cellaring process which means exploring further. Very interesting video and very well done.

    High volume of production does not always equal lower quality. You can find several large scale wineries that produce some incredible wines. I would say that it is important to try all different types of wine in order to develop your palate.

    • @theaveragewineenthusiast5359
      @theaveragewineenthusiast5359 Год назад

      That's a good point. I wished I had addressed this in the show. What we have to do is separate the wine from the winery. There are a few wineries here in Canada that make production wine. Inniskillin and Jackson Triggs come to mind. 90% of the wine these wineries produce are production wines. Companies this large often have extensive portfolios and they try to hit all the price points to maximize profits. But they also have labels that are actually quite good. Another winery from my neck of the woods, Colio Wines, produce sangria and other fruit-flavoured alcoholic beverages. They are mostly known for their Girls Night Out product. However, I recently went to a wine event where the top end of their portfolio was showcased and the majority of those were quite good. But you'll be hard-pressed to find these top-end wines readily available. A visit to one of their installations is usually the only way to come across their wine. Thanks for watching!

    • @BigBobDookie
      @BigBobDookie Год назад

      @@theaveragewineenthusiast5359 I agree. At the end of the day, they have to turn a profit. And sometimes that means making a very average wine for a decent price.
