Ok, I was amazed at Peso Pluma being the first regional Mexican artist to play at the MTVVMAs but playing at the MTV Europe awards? WOW, I'm even more amazed.
I’m more amazed that the kind of Mexican music that’s getting attention is Northern Mexican music like banda, corridos, or norteña. Mexicans used to make fun of northern Mexican music as country or tacky but now it’s become cool amongst young non-northern Mexicans. It’s funny to seee how things change, first they made fun of our northern Mexican culture and now they want be included and copy us.
Regional Mexican is not a music genre. It’s a category that includes many generes within Mexico. The kind of music peso pluma does comes from the northern region and he mixes different genres of northern Mexican music.
His lyrics are from his childhood with no opportunities in life, but then he gets a chance and does his best until he rises like the foam on a beer, up with a lot of money.
