I see no issue fundamentally with what Jon is doing. If he feels he is, at 37, essentially doing legacy fights then fair enough. But he needs to relinquish the belt if so. The champ should fight the next guy in line, that's their job.
Poatan fight would be huge. Poatan wanted to fight ag heavyweight for a belt but Tom ducked him 🦆 🦆 🦆. Jones Poatan and then Jones Aspinal, if Aspinall hasnt lost by then. Jones already beat the next best in HW after Stipe, Gane. Either Aspinal or Derrick Lewis would be a great finish to Jones legacy
Stipe couldn't have been further away from being a legacy fight. If anything, majority of the fans watching thought it should've never been scheduled and was boring. The only 2 fights that could actually expand his legacy are Poatan at LHW and Tom for the unification. So by the rules he either vacates his title at HW and puts dirt on his legacy to chase a super fight with alex which will be over within 2 minutes after jon took him down or he does whats right and DEFENDS his belt against the scariest and best fighter in the HW division which is Aspinall.
No the UFC should strip his belt. A champ that’s declining to fight the next best contender doesn’t deserve the belt and shouldn’t be able to vacate. He had that option before the Stipe fight but that’s just my humble opinion. I agree on the rest you said.
It should have happened the moment he injured his shoulder. UFC should have told him either you keep the belt and fight the number one contender when you are able to fight or you can have your legacy fight with Stipe after you healed up but then you have to vacate your belt now. Because we can't hold up the HW division for such a long time and we know you don't have the grace to relinquish the title on your own.

As Stipe's coffin is getting lowered, I am reminded of Mayweather vs. Pacquiao ten years ago. In that build-up, everyone was saying Floyd was ducking Manny, only to create a giant fight that was also years in the making. Should be a massive one coming up.
Lots of guys have seen openings when watching him fight. That Jon Jones was for Stipe. He'll build one for you to face. That's why he's so dangerous. I'm not calling the winner or anything, just noting that I've heard all of this before.

No way jon beats tom. He got touched by a slow slow stipe. It was so bad that stipe almost dropped out of the fight. Which is why tom had to wait until the main event.
I just like how honest Tom is. Just really straight up and not a lot of over confidence stuff. He's really straightforward with the idea that he could lose, but just reckons he's better and wants to give it a go. He's the type of guy that could be champion for a long time, might lose it once or twice, but will come back I think. I think he's the new generation of fast and effective heavyweights with a good level of ground work. Not like these haven't existed, but you see a lot of the recent guys being a bit slower and focusing on packing on muscle to get the knock out. ie Gane, Nganou, Lewis and maybe even a bit of Jones last night.
Jon already said he lacked motivation to fight guys like Reyes, who are just good up and comers. He probably wouldn't even take a fight with Tom seriously.
Reyes is not popular and Jon didnt feel he was a threat so I can see why he was not motivated Jon vs Tom is one of the biggest fights you can make right now alot of hype around it Jon will definitely be motivated and take this fight seriously
Nah. I guarantee Jon has been studying Tom footage like crazy. It's part of his game to make people think he's not fully invested, he always is though.
@9ico Jon said out his own mouth he can't get motivated for guys who are just the next hot thing. Tom is the next hot thing, so was Reyes at the time. Popularity has nothing to do with Jon's motivation. His whole reason to move to heavy weight was a new challenge. No disrespect to Tom, but he's just another guy. He might become something bigger, but right now, that's all he is. If John fights Tom and wins, it's not a legacy defining fight it's just Jon beating the new guy. If he beats Alex that's legacy.
@oxsila i honestly don't understand the Tom Aspinal Glazing. Cyril Gane has two losses to Jones and Francis both in title fights. He beat Dereck Lewis, beat volkov, beat Dos Santos. His resume is much better than aspinals.
@@whoknows8223 that's great but he doesn't care about your respect or the respect of a degenerate fanbase anyway. He's given us a vague callout, it can only be Alex or Tom. I doubt he's ducking like DC said, he was just focused on his legacy. Not right but the UFC panders to him

Stipe deserved the paycheque. Jon didn’t hurt him too much. Good result. I can’t see Jon risking his legacy on a younger bigger man in his prime. If Jon comes back it will be for Perrara who he will take down and submit. Then Jon retires. Sorry Tom. Always a bridesmaid.
In Aspinall last 2 fights he got hit with bombs but just managed to drop his opponents first. If he can’t finish Jones in the 1st round, it’s Jones fight to win. Also Jones favorite kick is the oblique kick, Tom has a bad knee, that knee is gonna get rebroken.

His wrestling coach said as much, so that might be the angle he’ll take. I can see Jon only wanting to do one more fight rather than two.
Aspinall is turning into an excellent presenter after his RUclips channel and hosting the fight lab. Very intelligent and articulate breakdown of the situation and fight delivered here. Could have a future as a commentator when he retires from being the Heavyweight champ.
That's not the case, what Chael said. Tom is interim until unification regardless of Jones defending his belt vs a rank #8 Stipe who was on a nearly four year break (who is now retired).

I see no issue fundamentally with what Jon is doing. If he feels he is, at 37, essentially doing legacy fights then fair enough. But he needs to relinquish the belt if so. The champ should fight the next guy in line, that's their job.
He said he will relinquish the belt so that's no problem

@TMeek94 totally agree but like GSP I think he would rectify the loss and move on. But yeah even he himself acknowledges there are no guarantees in heavyweight MMA
Jon Jones has been in heavyweight fights since 2011. Aspinall is already 31 with 3 losses.
@@denniskennedy2397 Jones has not been in heavyweight fights since 2011 what are you talking about? The majority of his career was at light heavyweight beating former middleweights
You could argue he has 3 losses against light heavy weights too, and if we had the same standards as other sports, his records would be removed from the books because of cheating
And Tom only has 1 legit loss, which was a heel hook early in his career, in a fight he was winning

No way jon beats tom. He got touched by a slow slow stipe. It was so bad that stipe almost dropped out of the fight. Which is why tom had to wait until the main event.
I just like how honest Tom is. Just really straight up and not a lot of over confidence stuff.
