That was the beginning of the end, but that could have happened after the 2012 season instead. Here's how: If Tony Romo didn't miss a wide open Miles Austin with 2:36 left in Dallas's Week 14 game (of the 2011 season) against the Giants (on Sunday Night Football), the Cowboys end up winning the division that year, and the Giants miss the playoffs (with no SB). Then, after they collapse in 2012 (after a 6-2 start), Coughlin is gone, and it's possible that Eli is as well.

@@Ambivalence18 The game against the Panthers in 2015 and the playoff blowout against the Packers-both of which involved OBJ controversy-foreshadowed the disastrous 2017 season and beyond (minus the 2022 season).
How about 2017 ruining the giants? Make huge splash purchases for Olivier Vernon, Snacks Harrison, and Jackrabbit. Make it to a playoff game where we get blown out. If we hadn't splurged in FA, perhaps we have a worse record, and perhaps we are within striking distance of pick number 10 in the draft. I feel like someone pretty good went in that draft position in 2017. McAdoo reportedly was a fan of his.
Great video! I loved the CoD WaW music in the background! I’m an Eagles fan, but yea, completely agree, the 2015 season was the absolute nail in the coffin for the Giants. Hasn’t been the same for that franchise and the fans have suffered since!
Great Video - Thanks. It bring back memories of when the Giants had an explosive offense. Was nice to see Eli at the helm again and see the ball travel more than 5 yds in the air... Go Giants.
While other Giants seasons were just bad, the 2015 Giants were the masters of having the most infuriating losses in the NFL, even 1-15/0-16 browns fans feel sympathy for them Great vid btw 👍
There's alot of ingredients to this season: Firstly Tom Coughlin was indeed starting to age out of the job. As much as he gets this image of being a curmudgeon, Tom was always a fan of big offense and was a very modern thinker in the game, and that's why he was always one of the best on challenges. Tom is as good of an in-game coach as I've ever seen and when that started to slip in 2015, in addition to losing grip of special teams and uncharacteristically giving Odell cover in the press, I knew the end was coming. Spags also doesn't get off easy here. As much as I love him, Steve needs chicken to make chicken salad. If you give him a defensive line, he will absolutely build a winning scheme around it. When he doesn't have the pass rushers, like here and his time in STL and NO, his defenses crumble and put up historically bad numbers. Perry Fewell was averaging 2 takeaways a game in 5 years as the DC, and giving that away for a nostaglic run with Steve was a HUGE mistake. People always used to joke that the Giants coddled Eli, and if anything, I think we all know that the truth is closer to the other way around.
I think after the 2011 Super Bowl the demise began, little cracks in the foundation to start but that's all it takes to eventually bring the whole thing down. You can do a 5 hour documentary about the fall of the Giants and it be depressingly entertaining at all of the inepitude this franchise has reached and still sadly reaching for. Good stuff nonetheless.
Listen to this The 2017 49ers were crazy -They started 0-9, -Had 5 games they lost by a posession or less. -They had 7 or 8 games they lost by 10 pts or less -Won their first game week 9 -Traded for Jimmy G, ended the season 5-0. -During the 5-game win streak, the 49ers won 3 straight games over teams that eventually made the playoffs They finished the season 6-10 - The 49ers also became the first team in NFL history to start a season 0-9 and finish with more than three wins. But the point is, if they win those games, 1 possesion games, they would have made the playoffs… Some of the Craziest shit I ever saw
Wow. That is where the feeling I have every week watching the giants started. My dad died in 2014 and the old giants died with them. Been a tough 10 years since then.
As a long time giants fan, this is a great video. It is amazing to see the time and effort you put into finding what you believe is the root cause of the giants downfall. I blocked out that season for obvious reasons but you emphasized all the positive that was there. Mara really has put this team in a downward spiral.
It’s been the same story for well over a decade now. Small mistakes mixed with overall poor play at times cost us multiple close games YEAR AFTER YEAR. Never good enough to make a playoff berth, and never trash enough to get undisputed studs in the top 3 picks of the draft
Great video bro! As a diehard loyal giants fan this past decade has been rough, but the future is bright. Hoping we land a top 3 pick and finally get the right QB for the future. Cam Ward would be my personal choice but I trust daboll to develop a young QB. We have the d-line, o-line has improved, budding star WR, Tracy has shown rb1 potential, have to work on our secondary but look at Washington man! They were in a worse situation than us & look how finding the right quarterback changes everything. I’m hoping the same for my GMEN 🙏🏾
That season we were 6th in scoring offense but 30th in scoring defense!!!! The game against the Jets, I ripped out my Giants shirt in anger and complete frustration 😣. I’m so sick of losing, just sick of it !!!!!
Eli against the Saints threw for 6 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He is the only QB to throw for 6tds and zero interceptions and lose! The Giants had the worst defence in the league!
This is a good video but for me personally the downfall began right after their SB win in 2011. 2012 was the last hurrah of the Giants team that had been so successful for the previous 7-8 years , with that season ending in a late collapse and it was all downhill from there. A lot of bad drafting from 2012-15 as well along with everything you mentioned
Coughlin I feel like is the biggest question mark for their future at that point in time. For all his greatness, you have to wonder if age would've caught up to him, mainly because of his 2nd stint in Jacksonville. He went from an authoritarian who demanded the best and got results into being a complete tyrant who single handedly accounted for a quarter of player complaints in the *entire* NFL. Was him being fired by New York a consequence of that? Maybe it hardened his heart again? Or did football just finally leave him behind? Maybe all staying in New York would've done was turned them from awful to mediocre, or maybe they could've gotten at least one more good run in. We'll never know I suppose, but there's a reason he hasn't came back after he returned to the Jags.
No they turned him into a scapegoat you can see they were competitive in 2015 but fell apart completely when he was gone turned this team into the laughing stock of the league
@chiapets2594 again, that is absolutely true, for New York, but refer back to his 2nd stint in Jacksonville. 1 quarter of all player complaints in the *entire league* belonged to Coughlin in Jacksonville, and he arguably is a major reason why Jacksonville's absolutely absurd defense disbanded just as ridiculously quick. Egos were all over the place and while Jacksonville absolutely needed a hardass alpha dog, Coughlin pushed it too far and made it so bad that the NFLPA itself recommended no one go to Jacksonville until he was fired or the culture changed. That's my point when I say that, he's a massive what if because how much of that was his age showing, versus his heart hardening after New York screwed him? It's a fascinating question to me.
Great video! When I heard recently that Coughlin won't even discuss his days with the Giants, I knew something really terrible had gone down. The team hasn't been the same since and Mara has a lot to do with it. He needs to be like James Dolan and just hire the right people and stay out of the way!
FINALLY SOMEONE IS SAYING IT. IT ALL STARTED 2015.... THE UNRAVELING... Boat Trip, WR's with No shirts on before the game, the defense kept us in that playoff game... Offense has nothing going. The benching Eli, letting Coughling go. It all unravelled after that
The fact that the 2015 season was my first season being a Giants fan and watching football overall, is tough. I've never experienced a true winning culture and it's sad. Mishandling Tom Coughlin, Eli Manning, Saquon Barkley, Daniel Jones, and so many others. 10 seasons in and there is little to be excited about. I just hope the next 10 years and beyond they give us something better than whatever the past pathetic decade has given us.
Basically the front office also ruined Eli 2012-2016 windows.!!!! I just looked it up.. Eli had the 6th ranked offense in the league that 2015 season🫢🫢. But had the worst defense in the league 😔
10 year old me watching this team let Eli down again and again and again straight up gave me a donut addiction cause every time they choked another win away my parents bought me Dunkin’ Donuts to make me feel better. Thanks for making me relive this lmao
Been a Giants fan all my life, those two championship runs and wins over the Pats, will keep me fed for the rest of my natural life come what may. I'm good.
As a Giants fan, I don't think I have, or ever will again witness a season so winnable become so far out of reach!! I cannot stand to watch this team anymore...
It’s funny. I was 14 when Giants made playoffs for first time In a while in 81 and 19 when they won SB 21. I was a kid and felt like I was such a long suffering Giants fan. Even when they went from 92-07 with only one SB appearance overall it didn’t feel that bad. Then came the two SB wins over the Pats. Since then? I finally know what it’s like to be a long suffering fan. I now know how the fans felt from most of the 60’s through the 70’s. That being said teams and fan bases would kill to win ONE SB. We got 4. You want king suffering? Try being a Rangers and Knicks fan since the mid 70’s. Brutal
Terrific video and analysis. The franchise lost its way as you lay out and has been grabbing at straws since. Is this an innovative team or a gritty one? Is it driven by star quality or by consistency and poise under stress? For ten years expressed principles like "getting 1% better each day" and "smart tough and dependable" become liabilities when compared to what is actually demonstrated and accomplished.
Not just they were 1 score. If most of those games ended 20 seconds sooner they would have been in the playoffs. That Landon Collins pick drop still gets me. DRC had it..that season makes me sick
They should’ve never fired Coughlin, it made no sense. Now we are still paying for it nearly 10 years later. He should’ve retired a Giant just like Eli
I’m a cowboys fan. I was shocked that year when they didn’t win the division. As you said, one of Eli’s best seasons ever as a QB. 2018 was very similar; they choked many big leads and had some great depth. But 2015 was an elite team had the defense made pivotal stops in the 4Q. They were average overall but were lower ranked because of those 4Q collapses (as you noted to 30th in pts allowed) Side note: I never realized how much the refs cheated the giants when they played the patriots. Odell clearly caught the ball, and what should’ve been a game winning interception never hit the ground.
My favorite under appreciated Giants fact is that from the 07 playoffs till Plax shot himself in the leg, they went 15-1. That’s a fun what if? They were on fire looking for a repeat.
As a 30+ year long Giants fan this season wasnt great but with a bottom 5 defense they werent going to go past the divisional round. The biggest thing was Accorsi leaving and Coughlin leaving when they left that took the heart out of the team.
2015, the year we learned that Eli throwing 6TDs in a game wasn't enough to win, the year we saw Eli lead a record tying (at the time) 28 point comeback vs the Panthers (but unlike other QBs, his defense let the other team score after he tied it), and the year they allowed 14 fourth quarter points 5 different times (a few other 10 pointers as well)

You know what killed Eli's career? The crappy O line and that went on for over a decade.
That cod waw eviction music hits hard at the beginning
This is my first time seeing a video from you. And man, you're instantly my favorite sports youtuber period! There was a lot of work put into this video, and it was very informative and entertaining. I'm tired of seeing other creators that just do hot takes like ESPN, or provide bland commentary. I really appreciate you explaining the games with real insight. I'm subbed now!
Wow! Watching this video, I think what I miss most, besides Eli and OBJ is those passes downfield. Rarely seen in this days Giants offense.
@@MagSeven7 Especially in 2016, when majority of Eli’s touchdown passes went to OBJ.
I personally think the 2017 season was the one that destroyed the Giants, but 2015 was also a contributing factor for sure.
@@Ambivalence18 The game against the Panthers in 2015 and the playoff blowout against the Packers-both of which involved OBJ controversy-foreshadowed the disastrous 2017 season and beyond (minus the 2022 season).
Man that 2015 season was when I first experienced what true heartbreak felt like lol
Incredible video man! Great work
How about 2017 ruining the giants? Make huge splash purchases for Olivier Vernon, Snacks Harrison, and Jackrabbit. Make it to a playoff game where we get blown out. If we hadn't splurged in FA, perhaps we have a worse record, and perhaps we are within striking distance of pick number 10 in the draft. I feel like someone pretty good went in that draft position in 2017. McAdoo reportedly was a fan of his.
They, not we
Great video! I loved the CoD WaW music in the background! I’m an Eagles fan, but yea, completely agree, the 2015 season was the absolute nail in the coffin for the Giants. Hasn’t been the same for that franchise and the fans have suffered since!
looking back these older seasons were so much more eletric
Great Video - Thanks. It bring back memories of when the Giants had an explosive offense. Was nice to see Eli at the helm again and see the ball travel more than 5 yds in the air... Go Giants.
While other Giants seasons were just bad, the 2015 Giants were the masters of having the most infuriating losses in the NFL, even 1-15/0-16 browns fans feel sympathy for them
Great vid btw 👍
The Call of Duty: World at War soundtrack was a nice touch for this video
Giants fan here. Really enjoyed the video. Interesting take. Left a like
That jets game is one of my favorites. Great comeback from my squad.
From a Giants and NASCAR fan... loving the content.
Great video dude. On point. Well done.
As a long suffering Falcons fan it felt good seeing Ryan and Jones hook up once again.
Listen to this
The 2017 49ers were crazy
-They started 0-9,
-Had 5 games they lost by a posession or less.
-They had 7 or 8 games they lost by 10 pts or less
-Won their first game week 9
-Traded for Jimmy G,
ended the season 5-0.
-During the 5-game win streak, the 49ers won 3 straight games over teams that eventually made the playoffs
They finished the season 6-10
- The 49ers also became the first team in NFL history to start a season 0-9 and finish with more than three wins.
But the point is, if they win those games, 1 possesion games, they would have made the playoffs…
Some of the Craziest shit I ever saw
Great video playa
I throughly enjoyed it
As a Giants fan, I feel like Polonsky from COD WAW.
Pretty cool how you used WAW music as it's one of my favorite COD games.
I was at both the patriots and Panthers games both were so painful especially at 9 years old
Wow. That is where the feeling I have every week watching the giants started. My dad died in 2014 and the old giants died with them. Been a tough 10 years since then.
love the music playing at 8:45
That CoD WAW soundtrack goes hard, excellent choice
Your presentation is good. One thing I noticed is the music overlaps with your voice a little too much in parts.
Great video bro, you earned a sub
11:03 ah, a fellow Utree viewer
As a long time giants fan, this is a great video. It is amazing to see the time and effort you put into finding what you believe is the root cause of the giants downfall. I blocked out that season for obvious reasons but you emphasized all the positive that was there. Mara really has put this team in a downward spiral.
I said it once I’ll say it again the reason why we suck is because of John Mara once he steps down as the owner we’ll be much better
Agreed
You never said it ever and they’ll be better, not we. You’re not on the team you loser
8:01 i already know the graham gano field goal that ruined my life i mark this as my most prominent giants memory in the past 10 years
That season we were 6th in scoring offense but 30th in scoring defense!!!!
In my opinion, we never should’ve let go of Tom Coughlin
How trading your best player with a great attitude to your division rival for inexplicable reasons f***ed your team, fanbase, & ability to win
The cod waw music is sick lmao
Great video... very well thought out
Once coughlin left it was a done deal
2016 was the last time it was fun to be a Giants fan. It’s just been pain ever since.
New York scapegoated their Superbowl Champion HC to go with Ben Mcadoo and we have been paying for it ever since.
Great Video. Love the WAW music BTW
It all unravelled after that
4:57 duel in the dome was prob one of my favorite games that I’ve actually sat down to watch outside of patriots games
Nice video. Not sure what that TD you have OBJ scoring against Atlanta tho. His TD in that game was a catch in the endzone
If the defense was rank in the middle of the league. They could of made the playoffs
Excellent explanation.
10 year old me watching this team let Eli down again and again and again straight up gave me a donut addiction cause every time they choked another win away my parents bought me Dunkin’ Donuts to make me feel better. Thanks for making me relive this lmao
As a patriots fan, I hate the giants, but you got my blood PUMPING by playing Black Cats from World at War for that Panthers game lol
Had forgot about that Panthers game. A game for the ages.
The way they treated Coughlin was disgraceful.
The nightmare doesn’t stop 😢
Been a Giants fan all my life, those two championship runs and wins over the Pats, will keep me fed for the rest of my natural life come what may. I'm good.
I don't know what's more heartbreaking the 09 giants or 15
Who’s here after Daniel Jones got cut?
Great video
If herbert came out or nyg took Allen diff franchise
Great breakdown
8:50 the lore gives sum much aura for that catch now😭😭😭
Still can’t believe that Landon Collin’s play, that shit wasn’t incomplete.
Landon Collins* - the "S" is part of the name, no apostrophe
They were average overall but were lower ranked because of those 4Q collapses (as you noted to 30th in pts allowed)
Side note: I never realized how much the refs cheated the giants when they played the patriots.
Eli Manning, "future Hall of Fame quarterback" lol
Plaxico shooting himself in the leg destroyed a dynasty
As an eagles fan I love this video.
As a 30+ year long Giants fan this season wasnt great but with a bottom 5 defense they werent going to go past the divisional round. The biggest thing was Accorsi leaving and Coughlin leaving when they left that took the heart out of the team.
2015, the year we learned that Eli throwing 6TDs in a game wasn't enough to win, the year we saw Eli lead a record tying (at the time) 28 point comeback vs the Panthers (but unlike other QBs, his defense let the other team score after he tied it), and the year they allowed 14 fourth quarter points 5 different times (a few other 10 pointers as well)
Considering how good the giants offense was that year, if they just had an average defense. They would been a playoff team.
