  • Join us on an extraordinary journey as two lifelong friends, Francis and Benoit, turn a crumbling, centuries-old castle into a stunning 4-star hotel. With no construction experience, a modest budget, and a dream, they face five years of grueling work, harsh weather, and even a global pandemic. Visit the hotel website here: link.qformedia....
Nestled in the rolling hills of Corrèze, France, Teide Castle is steeped in history serving as a hospital in World War I and a college during World War II. After being abandoned for over 30 years, the castle was in ruins. Despite its dilapidated state, Francis and Benoit saw an opportunity of a lifetime. Purchasing the castle for just $170,000, they dove headfirst into a monumental renovation, taking on personal debts and later opening the project to public investment.
This video captures their incredible highs and daunting lows, from demolition challenges and intricate roof repairs to the heart-stopping moment when a collapsing chapel almost derailed everything. Watch as local artisans, global investors, and sheer determination come together to breathe new life into this historic treasure.
Will they achieve the impossible? Let’s dive in and find out!

If it is possble for a building to have a soul, this building has had it's soul ripped away. the work is excellent but now it looks like a fake reproduction castle at Disneyland. The contemporary changes have ruined what could have been an amazing experiance. There is nothing inside this build that sets it apart from any newly built modern hotel.

All due respect for saving the house - I'll give You 100% credit for that. However, I would have done many things differently. In my opinion, after the renovation, the house-and especially the interiors-were too clean and clinical; all of the building's history is gone. Old details haven’t been preserved, honored or brought back enough. A building like that needs old objects, furniture, and details inside it. The rooms were just like in any new hotel-as if they had been furnished with IKEA furniture. Why? With that money they could have built a completely new building that looked 100% like that - probably that would have been a cheaper option with the same result.

@@VSE4me1 You are right - it’s possible that there weren’t many details worth preserving, but then details could have been added through new production. Of course, new production is not the same as authentic, but in the absence of anything better, it too could have created a castle-like atmosphere. Even just period correct wallpapers or art objects here and there alone would have steered the ambiance in the right direction.

I have undertaken a virtual teardown and rebuild of a house, with considerable design changes, both floorplan and styling. I felt for them as they undertook the task. And wondered how in the world they could finance it all, recalling my journey. I was done in by the housing crash in the U.S., like being on the beach exposed fully when a tsunami strikes. I can't imagine how they managed such a monstrous financial committment, even with 'angel' investors.

    Amazing work!
Just as a note: with this example, we can see why France is considered the country with the higher number of 'castles', since this building in France is considered a 'castle', while in other countries it would be a 'palace' or a 'manor'. The actual translation of 'castle' to French is not 'château', but 'château fort' ; meaning, in French, 'château' both concepts (non-bidirectional synonym). This fact leads to this widespread confusion.
I would also add, that many 'châteaux forts' ('military castles' or just 'castles') became 'châteaux' by opening big windows or adding non-defensive buildings, reconverting them into palaces and manor houses for seasonal 'vacations' for noblemen during and after the 17th century, when modern artillery-proof fortification engineering appeared, and fortified cities were preferred for defending the territory.
