@Syst3M D3Cod3s A timing belt is designed to be replaced multiple times as part of a cars ongoing, regular maintenance. A timing chain is not. The fact that the job was done by a 'specialist' (guessing as it's a JLR specific engine, not a Ford one as someone intimated in another comment, that it was a Jaguar specialist) is also going to put the price up.
@Syst3M D3Cod3s it's not a ford engine though is it... . As stated multiple times in the video and written on the top engine to help you out, it's an Ingenium. Which is a JLR developed engine and nothing to do with the Ford/PSA engines used previously.

And the profit can be used to recycle another vehicle. It really is an all round win! More power to you Matt, great content as ever as a further bonus.
Good comment 👍. One of the rather hidden issues regarding the big push to EV ownership is the huge wasted environmental cost of consigning perfectly good IC cars to the scrap pile 😔
Absolutely Chris.. The carbon footprint of an electric car is massive and these older cars are excellent. Look at Cuba...they still have 50's American cars running strong.. maybe we should learn from them and re think our disposable mentality..
I agree, 10-15 year old cars aren't scrap as they were years ago. With the cost of everything being high it would make more sense to recondition older vehicles rather a constant supply of new leased vehicles. Guess it's become to normal to use and discard cars. That Jag messed with my OCD, never understood why someone buys a nice car and doesn't look after it.
I had a 2015 same model and loved the car but spending time on an XE forum, was shall we say, enlightening. The timing chain is a known troublesome feature and is mounted at the rear of the engine and hence the expense to change it. That body work repair was the deal of the century! As a driving car they are very good indeed and do not disappoint. Very chuckable and extremely comfortable.

Jaguar with that mileage would be worth very much here in Finland. People prefer manuals and diesels. Obivously yes the damage is bad, but not counting that. Lovely old job again, thanks for the video! You really do make my days better, sounds silly to say but a little nice video like this to escape from the daily life.... perfection! :)
The 'gouge' on the rear quarter is not as scary as it looked, quite easy to cut it off, replace with a metal strip by spot weld /weld, sand smooth, then prime followed by paint , silver is an easier color to blend in.
The petrol engine is much better; and with the cost of diesel these days, probably more economical. I had an XE with a 2 liter petrol; loved it. My current Disco Sport has the same engine, and it moves that 2 ton beast just fine.
As an owner of a 2015 Jaguar XE I found that particularly interesting! Great car so far but the engine does sound like a tractor on start up. Wow! Amazing and fascinating how you have transformed that car! That ripped bodywork must have beem filled in with filler! It looks brilliant, and who ever buys that car is going to be a proud owner. I would be.
Brilliant work Matt. The XE looks great now. Shame about it being a manual. I know the demand for C Class Merc's and XE's with a manual gearbox is nowhere near as much as the automatics. Hope you make a nice profit

Excellent video as usual Matt 👍. Last October when I bought my C class the Jaguar XE was also on my shortlist. But being a newer model than the XF, the only ones within my budget were very high mileage. Given the cost of repair for the timing chain I think I made a good choice with the Merc especially as it had only covered 50k miles. Except for the fact that my W204 I isn't ulez compliant and will be worthless in five years 😢. Oh well 😒
A very good point you made about cars being turned over more frequently. They might then have a better chance of regular maintenance and refurbishment work being carried out. Rather than, as per this example, with one or two less than careful longer term ownerships. We love our XE (180 auto awd). It looks stunning in R-sport trim, and returns 50+mpg without sacrificing driving enjoyment! My partner suffers with MS, and it's one of the very few cars in which she can travel long distances free of vibration induced pain.
Your mention of spilt milk brought back memories of an old Ford Anglia that had Milk spilt in it. Excellent turn around there Matt, funny thing is most people put Jaguars in a ‘premium’ category but to be honest they don’t appear to be any better than any other regular car. I’ve just bought a 2021 top of the range Kia Sportage and have been blown away by the quality. Think I’ll stick with Korean stuff now, even if they might be a bit ‘boring’.
Premium is often defined by price and marketing, but despite that Jag interiors are really solid as lomg as you don‘t cheap out on the expensive extras on the configurator
@@supersploon4177 but that’s the point Jag, BMW, Merc etc all build up the price with extra cost ‘packages’ but in my case with the Kia all the ‘extras’ are standard equipment; no-one likes being taken for a ride, especially these days.

Well done for turning around because that was an absolute nightmare now look fantastic. But I've got to be agree with you the fact someone has bought a manual Jaguar diesel that's just wrong from every angle. Good luck with the sale cheers Phil from Newark
Like you said 60 quid for a wash and valet and put a few hundred extra on it....even your David banner jeans would be out of place in that dirt box! Nice car at the end and the usual quality review as always......
I had a 2016 XE, the diesel was irritatingly noisy, poor lumber support, Sat Nav nearly sent me over a big drop, put two carry on suitcases in the boot which left enough space for a couple of carry bags, never cracked how to use the heater. The only positives were fantastic fuel economy and false pride.
Nice video. I've had my 2017 XE Prestige 2.0d for over 5 years now. Leased it at first, but then bought it out after 3 years because the car was just so reliable and cheap to run. Interesting note about that timing chain, though. Right now mine has only about 40 K miles (66K kilometres here in Canada), so I think I've probably got another few years before I need to worry about that. To tell you the truth, I was pretty shocked at the state yours was in when you first got it. I can't imagine anyone letting such a nice car get so grotty.
@@dsingh2888 Well, D, they're lovely cars, and mine has been great, but you never know. If you can find a low-mileage one, you probably don't have to worry about the timing chain.
Shocking, I spotted a damaged door rubber on the rear passenger door in the after valet video. Did you not replace any of the torn door seals? I'll give you a pass if you didn't though as you've already sunk a boatload of cash into that car. Great video, as always
There's no wonder that you chuffed off on holiday Matt...🤣😎..well deserved I'd say. Well done on saving another decent motor....always fascinating these types of videos. Thanks. Cheers Roj.
Good work but I'd just hate to buy a car that I knew had been that neglected. I know it's different if you consider it as just a commodity to make a profit on but for a personal car, the remotes, the interior, even just the state of the boot would have made me walk away. I guess there's more emotion involved in the personal buying experience, you have to convince yourself you're spending cash on something good and high quality. Knowing something which is a premium brand has been valued and looked after is all part of that.
if i decide to get rid of my transporter and go back to a car, the xe is high on the list. as for the diesels? i love them. good mpg, good performance, cheap tax! if looked after then it ticks all boxes, BUT as Matt alluded to, it has to be an auto in a Jag. great video !!
think i saw a video once where the cambelt on a landcruiser took next to no time to change, maybe belts are the future, apparently, they used to use interlocking cogs if that´s the word, but they were too noisy, maybe we need to go back to them .
Great video Matt your bodywork team are so good and very good prices. Timing chains are a problem with some engines. I would suggest it's due to oil change intervals plus the can't be bothered owner. There was an audi 3.0 litre v6 diesel with 30,000 miles same issue. Timing chain tensioner faulty engine out chain at back of engine. Great design work folks why put chain at back.!!

I’m an avid watcher of your channel, and I’ve wanted an XF for a while and thanks to your advice I was aware the cambelts would need changing, one garage wouldn’t do it so I walked away , the next garage agreed to change them , I wouldn’t have been aware of this without your advice 👍
There are only a few i pull my skills out for ( ie people that pay lol) but i like a challenge and i must say you bring me many 😂😂😂😂
Great job Matt!! SO impressed. The body work for 500 quid is nothing short of a bargain
Another great video Matt. What a transformation 👏. Keep up the good work 👍
You are right mate I don't know why people treat cars to make them filthy I wouldn't leave my mondeo st220 in a state like that I clean my car 2 times a month I like it when u buy cheap cars im going to be watching more of your past videos im new here cheers mate see u next time
Excellent video as usual Matt 👍.
How is the used car business atm Matt? Just wondering given current and prospective climate.
Your mention of spilt milk brought back memories of an old Ford Anglia that had Milk spilt in it. It was almost ready for the junk yard but every time you put your head inside it, your head had to be withdrawn very quickly because of the vile smell.
So I can see you taking the whole inside of the vehicle out and clean everything thoroughly.
£4000 isn't cheap. I just enjoy watching you do your thing. There isn't dull moment
It really is cheap for a jaguar Xe
Not cheap??, A 65 plate.. Really.
It's not mate for a damaged one, wbac has valued our previous repaired cat s at 1600 quid on a 16 plate (!)
@@roystonvehicles9129 firstly wbac undervalue your car - they’re known for it. I got 7 grand extra part ex-ing my car compared to wbac. So if you think you know so much why don’t you do your own channel or your own things instead of coming here and criticising someone who is clearly more successful than yourself and perhaps you’re jealous. 👋
U are right about the mirrors ,had the 2.o petrol rsport from new with a large discount because I worked there ,six years on only
one problem with the enfotainment system changed eventually. Under warranty, the best car iv ever had .change oil more than manufacturer recommended it will be fine
Aaah... The good ol Timing Chain that you NEVER have to worry about. 🤦🏼♂️
Great episode, Matt. I hadn't seen you do one quite this way before. I enjoyed it. It almost felt like an episode of Restaurant Impossible with chef Robert Irvine, showing how hideous the place is at first and then the big transformation reveal at the end. 👊😂
I agree with you on that engine. Doesn't sound the best.
Haha thank you
I wonder if the previous owner knew it needed a drive chain and hence selling it. You did well to make a good profit
Great vid, just don’t where you find the time to make them week on week but keep it up as like many others look forward to them
Great video Matt, as always! I was looking forward to a video on the ‘16 XE, I hope you get a great return for your TLC. (P.S. not an idiot, just passionate about what you do.)👏
If I ever have a car to sell, I shall remember to tune the radio to BBC4 and add a National Trust sticker first, just to up the value.
You hit the nail on the head, having to sort diesel problems out totally outweighs any economy advantage.
Like the £1300 adblue tank on my 508....
Brilliant job Matt, hopefully the previous owner sees it and feels totally ashamed the way they traded it in..
It's not that bad, most of that will 'buff out'' :)
My buddy just bought one of these, his has a Meridian sound system and the app control features. Nice motor when its clean.
Matt your painter did you a big favor there but I guess you give him all your work. I couldn't drive a manual Jag unless of course it was an E Type
Lovely channel and great video. I now realise I would love to see videos from a body shop to see how they perform such magic on damage such as found on this car.
Another excellent vid Mat. Ive seen worse interiors by the way, where one should really wear a Hazmat Suit to drive it.
@7:23 to 7:27 From this angle, if you squint a bit, it looks a bit like a Vectra from 2009 to 2016.
hahaha, my company is 2319detailing, i love these Jags and have 4 regular customers. I thought when you opened the boot...they had done the normal of "the car goes next week, lets do the tip run and someone else can clean it" BUT NOPE heartbreaking to see what was a nice car treated so badly.
Great video as always! cheers Paul
I’ve always preferred the Jaguar XE over the 3 series or any of its other rivals. It’s a very handsome classy looking car I think.
I like seeing how it turned out, in the same episode, thanks. Great show
For some reason I'm weirdly obsessed with the slightly sleazy looking, car-dealer type bloke in the pic on the CarVertical site and I have NO IDEA WHY! Anyway, great videos mate- really nice filming, presenting and editing. Keep it up!
The regularly go through copart around £3 to £4000k for the diesel so doubt it will be the cheapest in the world. Still not a bad price.
Need a shout out to your hard working valet crew. Seems to do extraordinary work for the financial reward.
I, like many, enjoy the rough stone transformation to gem stories. Shows what can be done with some effort and the right trades.
You could present on top gear or similar .
Thanks!
Hi Matt, ...Timing Chain !!! 😱😱😱😱😱😱 But, respect for your coachwork/painter man! 😎😎😎
The XE is underrated, sucha stylish car,if it had LED Light and was an auto i would buy it ;D
Great video as always Matt!
I wouldnt they are so unreliable
I really don't like tractor engines, a part from the sound it's false economy as you rightly pointed out. Yet another great video, thank you Matt.
Nice brief now! 🎉 560 quid for that body work is a bargain
that quote from the car wash was just amazing!! :D
Yet another first class job.
I've seen tidier skips than the state of that car when you first saw it!
Never seen a 65 plate car in such a state.Well done Matt, you deserve every penny of profit you get from this.
Well done for turning around because that was an absolute nightmare now look fantastic. But I've got to be agree with you the fact someone has bought a manual Jaguar diesel that's just wrong from every angle. Good luck with the sale cheers Phil from Newark
I'm curious on your take on Mazda cars. I've never seen one on your channel. Great review video as always.
Great video Matt and another nice car saved. Might be an idea to pack a set of latex gloves in your pocket when picking up some of these mobile tips.
Looks great! i saw this car on a popular sale site. Good work! Great video!
Like you said 60 quid for a wash and valet and put a few hundred extra on it....even your David banner jeans would be out of place in that dirt box! Nice car at the end and the usual quality review as always......
Colour / wheels / manual / noisy diesel and tatty. Even buffed in that format will take some selling. Wish you luck, as always.
Hi buddy I want to buy jag xe 2.0 diesel but so manny people put me off that they not reliable always some problems with it.
@@dsingh2888 Well, D, they're lovely cars, and mine has been great, but you never know. If you can find a low-mileage one, you probably don't have to worry about the timing chain.
Loved this video, great to see a car turned from a sows‘ ear into a silk purse 👍🏻
Thanks. Cheers Roj.
Brilliant work done by the body shop.. that engine though, sounds like a 90s Ford Transit.. lol
I know I'm in the minority. But I like my manual Jag XE
Enjoy the formula of your videos. Keep it up.
think i saw a video once where the cambelt on a landcruiser took next to no time to change, maybe belts are the future, apparently, they used to use interlocking cogs if that´s the word, but they were too noisy, maybe we need to go back to them .
Funny how times change...a few years ago manual Jaguars were saught after as it was a sporting express. If you wanted a relaxing slish box you bought the Daimler version. Manual in my opinion is more keeping with the Jaguar sporting heritage...
I really enjoy these videos, wouldnt say know to a couple a quick clips as the works being done too but I appreciate thats probably a pain to get hold of!
