Last time a rally driver tried to get a F1 seat was Sebastian Loëb, the FIA told him to kick rocks and play for 2 years in the feeder series to get single seater experience.😂
The car is the RB8, from 2012. The RBR didn't get f1 until 2014, so direct comparisons are difficult, but in 2015 (ignoring 2014 due to regulation changes) the fastest by the RB11 was, iirc, in the mid 1.11s by Ricciardo. a 1.15 is quite impressive for a first timer, in a car that's about as fast!

theres too much to do in todays car than just drive.. the car is complete playstation, you need to adjust the settings all the time.. nothing he ever experienced..
He'll be about 2 seconds off the pace, it will take years to get the finesse to compete, not to mention the wheel to wheel racing ability which he obviously wouldn't have much experience with in rally, that would be his biggest weakness most likely
@justamanchimp that's likely the case. He did a bunch of karting though. Also he started doing pro prosche cup races and won a bunch of them from the get go so he knows track racing as well.
@@alisioardiona727 That explains why he got up to speed so quick then, but still, Porches are different beasts, to carry speed in modern f1 cars like the pros do, it will take years, not impossible, but. Quite unlikely I'd say. I'd even go as far as to say he would make Latifi look fast, that's how behind he will be. These f1 kids work their entire lives to get to the levels they get to, so he'd have to work every waking hour for two years just to get to get as good as Latifi lol. The only way it's possible is if he got sponsorship from an F1 team and he dedicated the next 2 years at least to training, testing, sim work, etc, and then learning all the knowledge of how to work with F1 engineers, how the cars work, etc etc, and then competed in a single seater championship like F2 perhaps. Without that he's got no chance honestly.
I’ve head the privilege to drive that F4 car on the Red Bull ring as the part of the Red Bull experience. What a blast that was, 10/10 would recommend, Patrick and the gang do the really good job. Servus aus Berchtesgaden
Loving these from Red Bull, seeing other RB athletes from other diciplines trying F1, but my favourite part, hearing that V8 scream! Fanstastic video RB, looking forward to more!!
Great stuff Kalle. 👏 one of the most naturally talented drivers of all time. PUt any driver from the current F1 grid onto the start line of Ouninpohja in a rally 1 car and see how they get on. Maybe a calendar instead of a stopwatch would be needed.
The steering wheel shot at 5:48 is really interesting compared to photos of the RB8 wheel when it was racing, especially now that there is a TCS dial and no KERS, with the KERS dial now labelled FANS - presumably as part of the show car fleet the car's been modified to cope with all of the crazy stunts that Red Bull use them for, hence traction control for when the car is being driven by non-F1 drivers, plus extra cooling for all the low-speed, high-rev wheel-spinny show car runs in city centres etc. Probably in the minority here but as a geek I'd love to know more about the post-F1 lives that these cars live.
This reminds me of how Sebastien Loeb came VERY close to bagging an F1 drive (with Toro Rosso, IIRC). If only the damn superlicence requirement didn't exist...
1.07 as a pole lap for hypothetical 2012 Red bull ring. 1: 15 would be about a second from the last car on the grid, somewhere in that range. Not bad for a second warmup lap.
We all hear of legends and tragedy mix to a point. My only wish is for this kid to live a very long and healthy life bringing joy to his loved ones & fans. Iconic attitude!
Enjoyed this, my only gripe is the footage doesn’t fit in with what we are told, part of the video claims laps carried out in the Formula Renault, but the sound and onboards/inboards are definitely the F4 car 😢 But he deserves a drive or at least the young driver test at the end of the season. Would give both Vcarb drivers a run for there money 👀
Its a '12 car, and he is crazy good driver but these laptimes dont mean anything, vettel did not drive this car here in 12, modern cars are very different
Other than the fact that its the 2012 car, this years pole was 1:04 and the track record in 2020 was 1:03 so no in modern F1 cars its not 1:09 when were talking one lap pace. Amazingly impressive nontheless, wish they raced around there in 2012 so we could see a better comparison, after 2017 f1 cars became too quick to compare.
