  • Greatness demands more than just ambition-it requires obsession. In this video, we dive into the relentless pursuit of dreams, the sacrifices it takes, and the risks you must be willing to face, even if it means losing everything. Drawing on the philosophies of Friedrich Nietzsche and Carl Jung, as well as the story of Griffith from Berserk, discover what it truly means to be consumed by a vision so powerful that you're willing to die for it.

People often feel driven to achieve greatness, a feeling that stems from a deep need to find purpose and leave a mark on the world. Once their basic needs for food, shelter, and comfort are met, they start to seek more than mere survival-they seek meaning. This search for purpose is almost like a survival instinct of its own, but rather than physical survival, it’s a quest for significance. People feel a powerful urge to dedicate themselves fully to something, anything that could make them feel that their existence matters. They’re often willing to make enormous sacrifices, to endure hardships, and to become obsessed with a goal, all because they fear fading away without purpose.
Underneath this drive is a discomfort with the unknown and an aversion to feeling like life is being "wasted." They can’t accept the idea of living aimlessly or dying insignificantly-no different from animals, as they see it. So, they cling to goals, obsessions, and a sense of duty to fill what might otherwise feel like an empty existence. This dedication to a purpose may feel fulfilling, or it may feel burdensome, but either way, it provides a way to silence that persistent question about why they are here.
In truth, even if these obsessions are ultimately "wasted time," the act of dedicating themselves has value to them. Their survival instincts drive them to do something, anything, that can leave a trace or contribute in some way, even if that contribution might never be seen. The need to be "useful" and to have an impact on others, or on future generations, persists, even in people who may not be able to have children. It’s as if the brain demands that they create or accomplish something simply because they’re alive, well-fed, and conscious of the vast, unsettling questions of existence. This urge to fill time with meaning is, perhaps, just another way for humanity to cope with being human.

This video highlights an essential truth: while society often celebrates the achievements of great individuals, it overlooks the state of their relationships, mental health, and overall well-being. True greatness is attainable, but as the video emphasizes, balance and humility are crucial. Having a goal or a sense of purpose is vital to propel us forward, but that goal must be rooted in something beyond personal gain. All too often, the pursuit of greatness breeds an ego that isolates individuals from society, as their passion serves only themselves. If we can learn to strive for excellence with humility and align our goals to serve a greater purpose, we could inspire a new generation that seeks not only to achieve greatness but also to prioritize balance and meaningful connections. This way, we can foster a culture where dedication and ambition coexist with self-awareness and service to others.

    • @buffedsans8761
      @buffedsans8761 Месяц назад +22

From my point of view, the question "What is greatness" is too general a question and it is better to cover the question from different areas to arrive at a general definition.
For a scientist, it is having so much passion for the scientific branch they are researching that they reach such great discoveries that they completely change the general vision of the whole world.
Such scientists when they reach these points are usually people interested only in their research. Money and fame are redundant... Just a secondary and unimportant consequence of the greatness of their achievements.
For a person focused on everything humanitarian, it is being a person with a big heart and with the ability to think, devise and execute ideas with humanitarian purposes that can help as many people as possible.
For example, I saw people sometimes in documentaries making entire tours throughout the African continent trying to distribute humanitarian aid throughout said continent or we can mention the NGOs and medical associations without borders that help injured or sick people all over the world.
In that case, both cases are people achieving greatness on their own which brings me to the general definition that greatness is reaching very high places in areas that you perceive to be passionate about.
If your goal in life is to help people then a path to greatness may actually be to start by being kind and compassionate to those around you just and exactly as you said.
So in reality "greatness" is very relative and dependent on what you seek in the first place. There is no point in seeking "greatness" in and of itself, it is a consequence and not a goal.
If your objetive is being a good person then your are more close to that greatness. But remember, to achieve greatness in first place you need an objetive.

That's kindness and compassion. Charitable, selfless, thoughtful, stoic, etc.
While it's "great" when someone is like that, it's hardly "greatness" in the way the video means. And the metric isn't inherently money or fame, those are possible symptoms. "Great" in this context is being extraordinary. And not in a "everyone is special" kind of way, like an objective - impacted the future of the entire human race - kind of way.

  • @Kurovespertine

Thought this was going to be a motivational video on completing the dream. Found this as a bit of that, but also a cautionary tale encouraging balance.
But no, sometimes you need that absolution. So much in this life is constantly, endlessly, perpetually trying to pull you off the path into a sea of helpless nothingness where 99% of people seem to reside. Everyone has accepted their fate that they can't be healthy, financially independent, or successful in whatever field they desire. They come up with excuses, and mutually agree with one another that it's ok to fail in these areas. This gives them comfort and allows them to feel ok with their weakness. And that is where they remain. This is truth.
If you truly want it, go all in. It's the only way.
Once achieved, decide if you want your endgame to stay engaged at this highest degree or if you'd like to implement more "balance".
But while on the path, you do not stray, you do not permit excuses or easing up off the throttle.
    Get it done.

That's why it's important to not take this waking dream too serious, perhaps the ultimate would be to realise it is just a dream. They say the sage is awake in said dream. When I was younger I was similar to Griffith in similar ways, I was very driven to be a professional skateboarder, or anything I had to be the best at it, ( innocently ) pushing the human spirit, and was competitive but hid it. However as I've grown older and my body has become stiff and painful ( from the body being pushed at a young age ) I have gone more... inward, into self discovery ( peace ), silence, slowing down and feeling closer to source.. Less of this ego. Perhaps this could serve as an example for others I don't know? Thanks

A Dream requires a vision that must be embodied, that it should be nurtured and meditated on until it keeps you up at night
Until it calls you to the point of harassment,
And even at times you scream out at it to go away when you are weak and overwhelmed with life’s hindrances, once the dream is bigger than you can contain you might be on to something

  • @aeternaflux
    @aeternaflux Месяц назад +39

For some reason I think that you have the same dream as me, Bridges. Call it a hunch. Granted, it isn’t given to either one of us to know for certain if that’s the case without it being expressed by at least one of us in a clear and concise form, and this is only a general intuition of mine; but seeing as our interests overlap greatly-and seeing also as your syntax, aesthetic tastes, and so on are so similar to my own-I would venture a guess that my intuition is spot on. In addition, given the substance of your video (which was well made, I’ll add, at least compared to others like it) I would interpret it in both of these respects:
    1. As a betrayal of your own lack of conviction towards this shared dream of ours, which we each pursue separately and unknowingly against the other.
    2. As a veiled attempt at convincing the others who pursue this same dream as you-such as myself, for example, at least assuming that we are, indeed, pursuing that same dream, as I do assume, and, admittedly, perhaps erroneously-to not make the same sacrifices that you, yourself, are unwilling to make so as not to have to witness from the outside looking in the construction of that thing which you know will inevitably culminate from the making of those sacrifices.
In light of all of that, I’ll only say this:
Rest assured, the dream is in safe-keeping with me. If it’s too difficult for you to pursue, you don’t have to by any means. I’ll continue pursuing it myself-and will be doing so in your stead. Your progress already is commendable. I recognize it. Believe me. You’ve arrived at a stage where very few have before you. If this is where you should stop, you will already have placed yourself over and above the vast majority of people. Nobody could blame you for stopping here, myself least of all. After all, most do. Stop, that is. It’s comfortable and secure within the confines of the herd. But, perhaps even more importantly, it’s extremely difficult to let go of the people in your life that you love and cherish-even if there is something which your heart yearns for, which sets you over and against them. Friends, family-they serve your cause, meet your need… Provide you with comfort, consolation… even joy. But each person, along with being a nook, is also a prison-are they not? Perhaps a dungeon with a warm hearthfire, satin sheets, plenty of books, and creature comforts as far as the eye can see… but still a dungeon, nevertheless. But the path to greatness is an icy one! So it can’t be helped if you can’t handle the freeze and have to return from your summit to the warm Earth below for respite. I, on the other hand, have no qualms with the cold, nor with letting go of any hindrance on my climb towards the peak I pursue!-And far from building bridges to that dream, as your name might imply, it would seem, instead, that you’re content on simply reaching the precipice, turning right around to the others that seek the same thing as you, and attempting to persuade them from crossing over to it themselves!
Perhaps you take after Miura in that way…

Thank you for just giving me a sh*t ton of motivation, if your "hunch" is right and we really are after the same dream,

      Thank you again, you're awesome.

I thought about it and compared two characters Griffith and monkey d luffy. Griffith on one hand had all the steps he needed while maintaining Atleast some bit of the valuable friends he had, but when he lost one due to his own personal flaws, instead of growing he collapsed and acted out recklessly and in a last ditch attempt to succeed in his dream he simply made a deal with the devil, I wouldn’t correlate this with “doing whatever I can” to become what he desired because he had a route that he destroyed himself. On the other hand, constantly luffy has been willing to give up his dream in the show for the sake of his friends or give up his life for his friends or a different cause , yet he pushes harder than anyone to succeed in his dream aswell as zoro who was willing to lay down his life even with ambition as great as this, this shows that you can become the greatest without losing yourself, the key is to stick to your beliefs and morals, and not let your dream consume you, know yourself first and understand WHO gave the dream life and what you TRULY desire in the end

We preach that there is a border between an obsession and an addiction.
There's no point in worshipping a great person, if they are not a person building their legacy out of their dreams made reality, but a dream that puppeteers a flesh vessel and then infections other vessels, removing individuality and forging homo sapiens into the cells of a social organism, indifferent and uncompromising.
Obsessions fuel us, addictions use us as the fuel. Therefore once obsessions turn into addictions, there is Insanity, and there is loss of the person.

Do you ever feel that the collective conscience of the world has chosen you to do something great? Its not a compulsion, its not a desire, but a law that is within you.
