Also they can use the farmland and put the solar monstrosities and wind turbines for net zero to make the energy cost even higher than it is now. Right now we have the highest cost in the world for industrial customers. Next the gov needs to make the cost the highest in the world for domestic customers. Land prices will drop as they sell and farmers can buy at better uninflated rates and do what they enjoy. 3) Payed over time 10 years interest free time to pay it... INTEREST FREE !!! 4) On the Subject of Agri Equipment nearly all of the assets used in a working farm will attract either agricultural property relief (“APR”) or business property relief (“BPR”) at 100 per cent. This means that no IHT is payable at all on the transfer of these assets. 5) According to current tax information about 500 estates are actually affect a year out of 209,000 farm holdings as of 2023. 6) Affected only when the IHT is applied.. Great interview, throws into sharp relief how ill considered and ill informed this fiscal policy is.
I've lived and worked in both rural communities and large urban conurbations in equal measure, at the heart of this is a deep seated and worrying ignorance and complacency around the distinction between urban and rural life, communities and economies.

Bill Gates and Black Rock haven't got enough
Bill Gates met Starmer and Rachel Reeves in Downing on October 17th. Before the budget. Nothing has been revealed regarding what they discussed. Considering Gates has been buying huge swaths of US farm land, last count I heard 270.000 acres, it is not beyond the devious crookedness of Starmer and Reeves to create a situation where British farmer are forced to sell up, (Inheritance Tax on farmers!!??) and no prizes for guessing who could be hovering in the wings to grab land from impoverished British farmers. Another nice little “bung” for Starmer no doubt.
Like the previous comment. I have nothing to do with farming either and I willl be there too. I urge other members of the public to support farmers and food production too.

Good support, our farmers, NOT STARMER.
Superb interviewee, with excellent questions to tease out some of the gaping hole in Rachel Reeves' extremely tenuous argument for the Budget changes.
I'm a farmer and I can gladly say that I will be there protesting. The 19th Nov will be small fry compared to what farmers are capable of. As the caption says, she has picked a fight with the wrong people. The state will never take our land

I’m not a farmer but I am livid about this. This is sinister. There is more to it. Goodbye the UK’s beautiful countryside.😢
Going to housing, windmills and solar the green and pleasant land will be no more
Good. Why should farmers enjoy vast green space and own millions in land while the rest of us have a small patch on a housing estate.
Its really important that the gov does this. How else will they reduce food supply, import more poor quality food from outside UK, increase cost of the food and reduce numbers buying the food. Also they can use the farmland and put the solar monstrosities and wind turbines for net zero to make the energy cost even higher than it is now. Right now we have the highest cost in the world for industrial customers. Next the gov needs to make the cost the highest in the world for domestic customers. This is a good plan for the steep decline of the UK. The decline has been going on much of the 20th century, but last 28 years has been total trash with 14 years of Blair Labour followed by 14 years of Con's.
@@Bluediamond200 Yes they need to build more affordable housing for the illegals who come in.
@@Xerus35 The general public can often also "enjoy vast green space" due to public rights of way and (as I have) when metal detecting. Also, using the access via the countless country roads/lanes. No farms = no food = starvation or expensive imports. Envy is one of the 7 deadly sins, if that is your motive.
Labour don't recognise farmers as working people.
They don't understand people who work until the job gets done, every day. They only understand 8 hour shifts.
The farmers provide an important service to the public and work around the clock to do that. They’ve had so much hardship over recent years that this is the last thing they need. Full support to the farmers. This is yet another appalling decision by Rachel Reeves.

Decades of billions of pounds in subsidies there are no poor farmers.
we can just buy that food abroad and if they had it hard thats not our fault they could have become politicians and chosen a different career
@@4L3X4ND3R19K agriculture is not a "career" it's a life, it's a culture, it's basically an ethnicity at this point. The city people are genetically diverging and not in a good way.
The test here is how much is forecast to be raised in the budget forecast from this tax. If it's as little as Labour suggests why bother with it?
Farmers all over Europe are under attack. I am Dutch and we had our mass farmers protest. I am happy to see our neighbours in the UK are standing up and fight this utter nonsense stand up and fight!
I think farmers actually have all the power, if they united, boycotted the super markets, sold in other ways, they could take back the power, same with truck drivers. The system needs division. I hope the farmers find a way through this.
hm if they all stopped i think the government will resort to harsher measures, they already decided what they want, the farmers they dont care about, clearly
and clearly decades or centuries of loyalties also means nothing to them
I worry that if farmers were to boycott supermarkets, said supermarkets (in which we're already competing with foreign supply for shelf space) would simply fill their shelves with imported produce entirely. Then what? A huge number of the public don't care enough to go elsewhere for their British produce.
Full support to our hard working farmers!!
Labour parties everywhere these days seem to hate hard workers, people who get ahead and their own traditional voters.
Right, this is doing that, just not the rich people pretending to farm for tax breaks.
Who are they ? Had the misfortune of trying to work with groups of farmers- never trust a farmer

Greatest of respect for Farmers, I appreciate how hard they work, we should be protecting them all
Here are the facts.
1) No IHT on land value under 1m and 3 mil if a couple. at 20% not 40% like everyone else 1/2 of everyone else.
2) Land prices have increased because rich people faking farming to enjoy the tax loop hole.
This not something that's constantly happening to any 1 individual all the time and can already be planned for and avoided...
6) 7 years time to gift it and even then its Tapered (3 to 4 years - 16%; 4 to 5 years - 12%; 5 to 6 years - 8%; 6 to 7 years - 4%)
