It was a nice first episode, though I don't really undestand why the taxi driver and the police woman (and probably more :o) understood their Japanese when they all started with normal English.. :/

Haahhaha, that seemed weird to me, too.

Besides, the main thing is, it made me wanna
watch the next episode, therefore it was great.

"I need to see your Johnny." And then the policewoman's reaction after that had me in tears. Good thing it was cold when the pic got taken XD!!

How did the taxi driver understand him? And how did he convince that guy to give him his pants? Weeiiiird.

Very interesting episode. I applaud for the use of real Americans for the voice acting. It made it sound very real. Lots of penis showing, lol. I wonder where the story will go. I have no idea where it can and will go. I like the OP but not so much the Ed. Maybe the ED will grow on me.

Is it just me, or do Saki and Akira look and act exactly the same as Hagumi and Morita from Honey and Clover? It's scary how much they're are alike.

Blown Away. Everything was perfect in the first episode.

This was a high priority for me when a Mal friend recommended it to me due to having Hayami, Saori as a lead, and I adore her voice. I really like the male lead Akira's Va Kimura, Ryouhei, since him voicing Kodaka in Hagani helped make him one of my favorite male leads.

Even from the start i fell in love with this, with Saki having my Birthday (only difference is '88 vs '89). The highest level real English in Anime I have ever seen also really blew me away.

While I wasn't super attracted to Saki from my initial impressions before watching the show (unlike my favorite Saori character, Ayase from OreImo), i found her personality to be refreshing and her to be really sweet and cute. I like the mature feel of the show, whether its the relatively realistic portrayal of America, or the non-squeemish manner that Saki handles Akira's buck nakedness (most anime females would have a fit).

The romance vibes are really sweet as well. Normally I wouldn't be a fan of Love at First Sight type encounters, but this just seems so right that I can't find any faults with it.

10/10 so far, and the next episode did not disappoint, so looking forward to a potential Masterpiece.

Fantastic first episode! There's one thing I don't get, though. How does Saki have her passport if Akira burned it in the toaster?

not bad not bad and maybe even very good ;)
Nice start, looks like a good story nice art of background I wonder if this were all real life buildings like some anime do?
I will definitely watch next chapters.
But I wonder why there are two OP's? Japan version got English song and dubbed Funi got japan song O.o (other dub version got English song also).
I watched few minutes of dub version and it was not bad but I will stick to original as I can't find HD version of dub and I like Japanese voices more than Eng dub.

I lol'd so hard when she asked him his name and he was like "my name is...ugh...*takes out passport*"
This anime has one of the best English I'd ever heard, especially the accent and everything
Also, I wonder why that police let them go after seeing his Johnny lol

Quite a start. The style is very jarring, lots of CGI that actually looks good. The whole "Johnny" business had me roaring, "I knocked some sense into you with my Johnny!" I really like Saki and Akira's interactions, her little punch in response was cute. It seems very meticulous thus far, such as piecing together how Akira gets clothes and why he presumably proceeded to burn down his apartment.

Unrealistic characterisation:
> Naked dude with no memories in complete peace with himself in a busy locality
> Girl follows obviously deranged (at least it should seem so from her perspective) stranger into a cab
> Policewoman truned on or what by Akira's is-that-what-a-johnny-is?
But I don't especially mind. People don't always have to abide by my definition of normal. But it was rather strange to see so many people with such little inhibitions all on the same screen. I guess the environment of trust was in some ways very warm. Perhaps one does not remember that they must feel awkward or embarrassed standing naked in one of the busiest (and probably most elite) nieghbourhoods in the world when they have no memories at all. But that is not at all convincing, if Takizawa can remember what the White House is meant for, then he can also be expected to remember social etiquette. It's doesn't take serious deduction skills to figure out you're out of place when you're the only person on the road with no clothes on. So Takizawa knew that waving a gun around stark naked in a public place was shit creepy, but he didn't consider it a great priority to deal with that asap. That makes him an interesting person in many ways to me. Morimo (was that her last name?) on the other hand, from my first impression, seems dumber than a rock (figuratively; I won't be a pedant). This setting and character design vaguely resembles Zankyou no Terror. The fast pace made this episode an absolute delight to watch. If the whole show is going to proceed this way, this show is going to be a lot better than the reviews made it out to be.

I understand that Akira paid the dude for his pants, judging from the dude's cheerfulness and complete lack of embarassment after taking his pants off (and also since the synopsis tells us Takizawa had a ton of money to spend.) and he burnt his apartment down so the police wouldn't find the fake passports and various other terrorist goodies and since he wouldn't have to use it again anyway. How is that meticulous? It seems like the quickest way to get clothes without creating record of a transaction would be pay a stranger for it. But I agree with you on the burn-the-apartment-down part. It is stupid to believe that burning weapons down will erase all traces of them. If anything, it would only attract more attention.

@ObliviousOkapi - it's meticulous in that it even took that extra mile to begin with. It could have very well just omitted the existence of those two scenarios and just had Akira and Saki run off to Japan together amidst the commotion. The step by step is just something I don't see often in anime.

That was a pretty crap pilot honestly.

The production value for sound and animation were great, as well as the authenticity of being in America with proper landmark placements and actual English VAs. Looked like a realistic take on a crime thriller.

Unfortunately, all that was shot to pieces as soon as the MCs showed up. The immersion was instantly broken when the girl started talking in Japanese to Americans and somehow being understood with no confusion whatsoever. Furthermore, if a naked guy with a pistol was anywhere near the White House and the National Mall, he would have been immediately spotted and likely shot. Also, wtf was with the female cop's 'Johnny inspection?' Furthermore, the girl (who is already dim for throwing things on the White House lawn in a post-9/11 world) giving her clothes and running away with a naked man with a gun doesn't help her case that she possesses any intelligence whatsoever.

Looks like Anime's unnecessary quirkiness ruins yet another good premise. Oh well.

Saki is kind of cutesy.

Ugh, Akira's naked!

Not a big fan of the cartoonish antics and the designs don't look that much special.

Overall, okay episode, okay characters.

ugh, this start made me vomit. it's certainly going for a more mature and realistic vibe, but all the dick jokes and the general stupidness just ruined that and made this episode fall on its face. I can't buy into the characters' actions at all. they seem so nonsensical. again, this wouldn't be a problem if this was a different kind of show. dropped for now.

Very nice start. Intriguing setup with all of the questions created surrounding "Akira" and his backstory and who the saviours are. The main characters are likeable and the ep as a whole was thoroughly entertaining. Good soundtrack as well...I always enjoy Kenji Kawai's work. Looking forward to seeing where this show goes.

I had no idea what to expect from this show, I only started it because of all the praise it gets (since it only has 11 episodes, I thought it wouldn't cost anything to try), and for now, I like it, it seems interesting ! I had some issues, like the fact that the characters don't seem to question things enough or the fact that Akira isn't supposed to remember anything and yet remembers movies and concepts like terrorism, but I can forgive it if the rest is good. I'm not sure if I'll like it or not at the end because I have no idea where exactly is this show going and for now I'm not very fond of the characters, but I'm intrigued.
Also, I really like the opening song ! It sounds great and differs from all that J-Pop. I'm less fond of the ending song, however I love the animation with the papercraft, it's very original.

Edit : I just found out that the OP song is an Oasis song ? That explains why I like it. I've never seen an anime use an already existing song for its opening, it's surprising but nice.
