You can love or hate Margit but let's face it, he's one of the most memorable bosses in Elden Ring. We will always remember to put our foolish ambitions to rest from time to time.
@@dominiklange8382 morgott was surprisingly easy for me took like 4 trys I'm guessing casue Margit halted my ass for 30 attempts when I fought him but fuck his dam spear that he throws
Tree Sentinel tells you that you don't need to fight every enemy you find. Algheel tells you that you can use your horse in a field boss, and Margit tells you this is an open world game.
@SeraWasNever ROFL, this is so true, i just beat her after like 100 tries in ng+ i skipped her first playthrough, her fkin dance is Broken. I had to summon because 1v1 she killed me every time she did that broken move.
It's actually so you can land attacks in between. If you attack him in between his delays it's EASIER to dodge the attacks since you are creating your own rhythm. Try dodging his opener, notice when he's doing the long attack, and then charge a full R2, you'll have JUST enough time to dodge out the way. It's when you're doing nothing that it's hard to stay on beat (if you feel you noticed it late then you don't charge the R2). Like the dude said, attack after his strings are "over" can be hard because he has optional extenders. The time you should attack are during his attacks.
While it is true, it’s sometimes just annoying not even as a panic roll. Just because you literally cant know when to roll unless you get used to some of his attacks. And it’s sometime not fun to play against. At least for me.
i always considered him the gatekeeper who teaches you its ok to use summons and ashes while still allowing experienced players to play in a more difficult style without them. side note i used the skeleton duo as my summons the entire game they are sleeper OP because they just keep coming back and its not hard to get most bosses to chase you during their respawn so they dont die.
The only reason i killed him was because of panic rolling. I saw lots of streamers during early release struggling with this guy and i wss expecting to hit a wall like i did with Midir on DS3 but i was wrong. This boss was underwhelming , i am not lying to, killed both bosses from stormveil castle on my first try. Level 18 samurai, +2 sword.
Elden Ring is my first Fromsoft game, and Margit was without a doubt one of the meanest, most brutal and harrowing experiences that I have experienced in a game. I love it.
Took him down in my 4th/5th attempt, attempt before that his health was literally less than an inch and i died because i didn't charge in before he killed me
@@KappaJones im not gona lie an say he didnt kill me atleast twice but i didnt even get to see his full moveset because he was like my 10th boss an i was probably overleveled by the time i found him yes i say found because i avoided the big castle for like 5-6 hrs of exploring i can imagine a new player souls player doing the same were hes not the first boss but the 10th..
Why Margit is a phenomenal first boss: He makes you learn new habits for future fights, sets the theme for the game, gives you a lot of satisfaction when beating him for your first time, is memorable, and most importantly.... Shows you how bosses have smart programming and will do certain attacks to counter what you are doing (healing, using magic, ect.) A first boss is the most important boss in a game and Elden Ring did a great job with theirs.
I agree 100%. I did myself a disservice in my approach against Margit because I never had to gain those habits. I was a bit overleveled and abused both spirit summons and the npc summon. By that point his ai was split between too many enemies so I just stood back and thew spells at him. Flash forward later in the game and my sense for dodging was completely fucked and as soon as I stopped using summons I was getting dropped like nothing.
It is unfortunate that I beat him on my first try as a new Souls player. I didn't over-level or use the npc summon but I still felt like I cheesed him. I used the Astronomer class and I started with the Imp ashes because it was the only one that I couldn't tell what it does from the description. Simply put, those things were so good at keeping his aggro that I was able to pebble him to death first try. Thankfully I learned alot from Godrick, probably the second hardest boss fight for me so far (I just beat Fire Giant, the hardest so far). Though probably cause I was underleveled and had not enough weapon upgrades. I literally had to run only mana pots so I would have enough fp to finish the job.
I beat him first try too, at lvl 170 with maxed staff and moonveil on NG+!! To be fair, I also beat him at lvl 40ish with an Estoc on my first playthrough after 3 tries.
For how quickly you can get to Margit, some people think you're supposed to fight him right away but keep on forgetting that he guards the entrance to the literal last place you're supposed to go in Limgrave.
Who’s fault is that tho? The first npc you speak with tells you to go to the castle. It’s an intentional set up by from software. The first 3 “bosses” you fight from the start of the game 1. Kills you with his 8 arms 2. Kills you with his horse 3. Kills you with his infinite stamina combos. It’s borderline trolling.
I found Mohg Lord of Blood to be an even bigger punisher of panic rolling. And just every other mistake you can possibly make. Every movement you make has to be calculated.
@VaderxG there alot of 100 physical reduction shield in ds1, you probably were using a shield that dont have 100 physical reduction or you guard an attack that deal diffrent type of damage
Margit is a hard boss because you first meet him under leveled and under prepared for the fight. You can run into him at level 11. I ran into him at level 15. He exists to tell the players you need to explore the map, level up, get a better weapon. He is there to punish players for not exploring the world properly, and teach players to explore.
Honestly him and the new twin moon boss from the dlc just proves the way to beat early souls boss is just get the upgrade material if you’re not doing well despite understanding what you are supposed to do to handle most of their moves. Everyone wants to pretend that they are let me solo her but stats and gear are always the main way to win any rpg.
i beat margit in 1.5 hours on my second playthrough on level 12 samurai (12 because i killed tree sentinel) and elden ring ring was my first souls game ever
After practicing Margit for a long time in NG+, a lot of his attacks depend on where you stand, the daggers for example, he will only use them if you are close in front of him. This can be used to bait some attacks so for example, if you know that after one move, if you are close, he can do another one that you can safely punish, you can bait that move by intentionally approaching him.
Yeah i’m on ng++ and honestly, staying in medium range is the best because it baits certain engages that are easy to dodge and leave a good opening. Too far away is not ideal and so is melee range.
Yea! The only way I defeated him was when I noticed that. I avoid those openings that I know he will conjure that sword and I'll just gonna let him jump because those are easy to counter.
Margit is hands down one of my favorite bosses of all time. After I beat him the first time, I won't level past 20 until I defeat him anymore so it's more of a challenge. I love Margit.
Dude when I beat him I think I was level 40-45 and it still took me like two tries, that was after a week of being stuck on him lmao 🤣 and once I did it I got so hyped I started screaming like “yeah bitch I beat you!!!” My girlfriend was laughing the whole time 😂
I find the toughest part about fighting Margit is just how many combos he can string together with almost no windup aside from knowing the explicit few attacks that he CAN'T follow up on. Especially in his 2nd phase, he'll do a full 4 hit combo, you'll run up to get a hit on him, he will immediately launch into his dagger swipe attack, and chain another 3 hit combo without any warning.
are you talking about the combo where the third attack is impossible to dodge? unless you dodge the first, get hit by the second and dodge the staff ( third hit) , because you can't dodge both the second and the third hit.
youp, pretty much thats it. It took an while for me to figure out, but i started only punishing his Hammer attacks 2nd Phase since they leave him vulnerable for quite long.
Margit’s purpose is to teach players that they should go out and explore the open world instead of rushing through the main bosses. I beat a lot of the optional bosses in Limgrave so I could level up a bit before fighting Margit and I was able to beat him first try with no summons or magic even though Elden Ring is my first souls game
Finally not a braindead player. As a souls veteran me and my friends took 8 times to defeat him. We didn’t explore or level up like u did. But your approach was a lot more smarter
I'm a completionist so I did literally everything else first, anything I saw I beat right there and then even if it took me several hours 😅 needless to say, Margit was easily 1st tried after all that.
Bro I tried Margit just to see how he was. Knew I needed more health, plain and simple (also newer to souls games) I got to like level 58 and then remembered “oh shit I gotta go face margit!” 🤣🤣 I’m sitting here looking at this dude vigor and am saying “it almost like you didn’t think you’d die in 2 hits” lol Also beat godrick in a few tries and was easy af with the summon assistance. Rushed his ass with some claws and made that bitch bleed
It’s a wonderfully designed boss placed in the best place possible. Think that he’s meant to be that way to basically tell you to comeback after you explore limgrave and then you end up seeing how the exploration in this game is on a whole other level.
I was a prophet and fireball sucks dick against this guy. Got the Crucible Tail, and murdered him easily. Pretty much the hardest boss I fought as prophet. Everyone else is easily kitable.
@Vandole I don't think he is worse compare to gundyr and vordt. He is here to teach you "go explore, get better or try hard", a skill check. YOU CAN ROLL THROUGH HIS ATTACK, there is a few think you need find out to prevent you get into that situation.
A lot of people seem to miss the part that Elden Ring is an open world game. Margit is basically a gatekeeper. Unless you explored enough and leveled, you shall not pass him.
Margit aside, the much higher HP soft cap is also a huge indicator of the damage that will be coming at you later in the game. In DS 2 and 3 it was 27 IIRC. In ER it's 40, and even 40 is not where you should stop unless you're supremely confident in your ability to dodge or parry. It took me way too long to figure that out. I made it to Radahn with 16 VIG and then realized that 16 VIG is nothing. It's basically farting into a hurricane. And like you said, you're basically expected to clear Limgrave and Mistwood before going to Margit. On top of that, you should be putting something into VIG. Your 35 points in INT won't do anything if you die in 1 hit or stagger.
@@franciscohidalgo6042 Personally, I felt MUCH stronger when I respec'd and put my vigor up to 40 when I got to Leyndell the first time. Even with the significant loss of damage I was doing more damage by spending less time dying or healing.
@@khaoticmage2027 Exactly. When you go from dying or needing to chug 2 flasks after 1 hit to having some breathing room because you have more HP, the game feels significantly less punishing and more enjoyable. You may trade some damage, but if you have to run away to heal, you're taking more time overall to kill stuff. Usually.
I'm new to a souls game and didn't know that Margit is considered 1 of the harder bosses. Yes, I died like 50 times to him but it's a little more reassuring that the other bosses will not be as painful as him :) I'm currently at castle morne.
Honestly I am not gonna lie, he is actually one of my favorite bosses. I fought him way to early and ended up paying for it by dying to him for like 5 hours straight. I eventually did a couple dungeons and got to a point where I was doing better damage but I wouldn’t say like the best damage. However because of the hours of training I had in dodging a lot of his attacks I was just barely able to beat him
on my first playthrough, i accidently explored Caelid all thanks to a teleporter chest but this accident turned out to be a good thing since i found the rotten stray summon ash, the greatsword, and some golden runes for leveling which made the Margit fight a little bit easier than what i originally expected
My first playthrough I was at around level 30 when I beat him with over 5 hours of attempts. On my second playthrough I beat him at level 22 with only 2 attempts. This really shows how much you improve on the game
Despite having my own sets of trouble with this game, I think the biggest “difficulty hurdle,” for people to get over in this game is practicing patience. Recent games and the landscape of online gaming as a whole has somewhat conditioned the average player into reaction time and aggression. But, while playing mostly shooter games that maintain distance and work completely differently..troubles arise. This game got super successful, being played by people who don’t usually play games like this. So, there’s a lot of learning to do. I thought this game was impossible and rage quit multiple times, until I really sat down with the leveling system and paid attention to what I was equipping and watching my enemy patterns. There’s challenges but I usually overcome bosses in one attempt, even if it takes a while. Patience, mfs, have patience.
I find this funny, because I've found this game punishes me when I try to play patiently (Not counting the panic. Lol) and rewards me for getting up close and personal. At least, depending on the boss. Some, like that weird assassin dude that starts the fight at like half health for some reason, you gotta draw them out and then back off a bit.
when i finaly beat margit after i died a countless time, i had this strange feeling, like i dont want to continue to play this game, knowing the first boss i fought is this hard, fortunately i overcome that fear. damn you margit!
Beat margit as a wretch while underleveled, took many hours but the feeling of acomplishment was huge. Whenever I get stuck on a hard boss in any video game, I always try to only dodge and learn all the attacks before I try to actually attack them. I think Minos Prime from ULTRAKILL is the best example I can give, you are forced to learn how to parry, and the timings are very precise
@@Crackdoza_lol once you get the hang of it it's pretty enjoyable, one tip I can give is that you can dodge a lot of his attacks by just running behind him
@@therealzizmon1748 oh yea hes pretty easy if you just time and side dodge ive found, as well as parrying his cane attacks becomes second nature after ng+
@@Monkeyman-qt1sm Godrick makes the ground go wobble wobble and has bad breath. Thats the difference. he was actually easier than Margit Like Lady Butterfly was a hell of speedbump in Sekiro
Godrick was pretty similar too with his style. For the whirlwind attack, if you are close he does a jump attack and lands on you but if you are far he just shoots 2 wind shots that go really far. And his second phase with the fire was rough for me.
"the hold is like 70% of the difficulty for me" Words cannot describe how much I relate to that statement I think one of the biggest "problems" Elden Ring has, is that sites of grace point towards a boss, so naturally your instinct is to follow that path. But that's basically the game just telling you "hey come back here in a little bit"
It's basically the game asking you if you wanna get to the end of it, if the answer is yes, then follow the arrow, if it's no, ignore it for the time being.
@@c0mplex_Ale exactly, so I wouldn’t call it a “problem”. How is it a problem if the game tells you where your main objective is? All it does is help you think on what you wanna prioritize
The grace points are the game telling you where to go, the boss's damage dealt:damage received ratio is the indicator of whether or not you have to go explore to beat it. So I don't really agree with that last statement at all. I think the general pattern of the game is follow the grace and main paths until you hit a wall of a boss too strong for you, then you explore the surrounding area which offers upgrades, armaments and levels. In that sense the game is actually quite linear, if you go over kill and start exploring outwidth the region, you end up overlevelling. Limgrave for Margit, Weeping Penisula for Godrick etc.
It's not at all the game, it's the players playing an open world game and falling I to their waypoint mentality. They pretend the open world is a corridor and ignore any sense of exploration, and then complain about missing something.
I found that the best window to attack Margit is when either after he does the long delayed double spin attack, or when he does his normal jump attack. I was able to beat phase 1 a bit easier by attacking at only these two times, getting 1 to 2 hits in each time. Have yet to beat phase two and I'm only a lvl 26 Vagabond.
This is the way. The main lesson margit teaches you is punishable and non punishable attacks. Roll in for the former and roll out for the latter. Phase 2 is easier, because he panic attacks with his hammer smash and dual spins, letting you punish him more. Just bait and punish
Margit is such a cool and unique boss fight. I beat Margit by doing most of my damage in between his attack strings and recovering right on time to dodge. Took me awhile to beat him but it felt great beating him
@@AscendantStoic Yea, they never tell you to explore. In fact, they tell you the opposite in multiple ways (the grace guidance, npcs, etc) But if you do explore you get rewarded for it.
After I realized margit was the real deal, I found beating him really easy. my first 3 deaths were from under estimating him for being early game. Then I realized he is real and the deal. So I then put HIS foolish ambitions to rest slammed him in 2 more tries.
I had heard how hard he was and came in expecting a tough battle. Literally two light attacks off on my 3rd go at level 14. Might just level a little bit more then commit to the challenge. That 5 swing combo can mess you up if you get your first dodge wrong
The main thing I noticed fighting him was that he is not a difficult boss it’s just that he has like 10-15 different attacks that make it impossible to memorize his attack patterns since every attack can change depending on where you are in the arena Edit after two years: man i sucked at the game when i wrote the above portion im now in my second play through to play the dlc and margit is honestly the easiest boss its not that you can’t learn patterns or etc he is a beautifully designed boss that is a great learning experience on how to deal with at least 95-99% of every boss in the game
The funny thing is that people seam to forget what the first encounter with the Asylum Demon is. Have you ever tried killing the Asylum with the broken sword and no Estus? I did and i died a lot more to him then to Margit before discovering the freaking door.
My first Fromsoft game, my first soulslike. A friend told me beforehand that Stormveil Castle and it's "bosses" were quite a big step up from Limgrave and Weeping Pen. So what did i do? Leveled up my character a shit tonne (mainly Vigor and Endur) by defeating every other smaller boss I could find, gitgud + killing the Stormhill giants every time I rode past (didn't even think of it as "farming" at the time, was only to gitgud fighting on Torrent.) +I also accidentally made Castle Morne's NPC Edgar aggro by fighting agroup of enemies next to him while he was at the end of his quest :'( so I killed him and got his sweet weapon lol. Took me 2-3 tries to defeat Margit, the jellyfish was my bestfriend. Godrick was the harder one for me, holy shit. I'm only up to Liurnia of the Lakes, am about 35 hours in, but in my 20 years of gaming this has to be one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. The exploration and discovery is like nothing else I've seen in years, since Morrowind. Combat and difficulty is in another league. Can't wait to go back and experience the entire Soulsbourne collection.
Stormveil isn't the first area in the game. It's the weeping peninsula. There you get flask +3. You get lots of upgrade materials 1 and 2. You get a castle dungeon area more suited to level 10-20. Limgrave is more of a level 1-10 area, and east Limgrave is 20-30. Stormveil is 30-40 area.
@@warriorfire8103They didn’t do a good job on that. There is only one way into it. Has kind if an intimidating entrance. However the area is easy, gives you a lot of level shards 1. The game sooner has you arrive at Caelid than it does the penesula, with that trapped chest and portal in east limgrave.
Also, if they actually explore, they can figure out that you have Margit's shackle or you can even technically skip the whole castle lol. But i guess theres lot of people that would rather finish the game than actually playing it.
I levelled my character up to 30 before challenging Margit for the 1st time, was too busy going everywhere else. I used the Jellyfish summon to distract him while I hit him. I beat him on the 4th or 5th go…just
Fun fact, patches sells an item called Margot’s Shackle, which can be used to force a stun on Margot and allow you to get a ton of free hits. And it’s useable in both his boss fights.
the more beatiful thing is that theyre not just a rehearsed song being played out its more like an impromptu jazz session with you and the boss doing call and response. Only the boss has enough arms to play the entire band by himself and youre out there with a banjo xD
I loved margit. I reached the fight pretty quickly. Tried a few times. Realized I could probably beat it in a couple hours if I kept trying, but then chose to go explore a few more hours, and came back and it felt like a fair fight
I'll tell you this, after I beat him, everything else has been relatively easy. I one-shot Radahn, and most other bosses one to two-shot depending on if I just got caught randomly by a string of attacks and died. Margit though... I died no joke probably 50 times, not kidding.
nothing is harder than the second genichiro boss fight in sekiro. that was a HUGE difficulty spike. but if you win you most likely improved on the game so much you then body pretty much everyone after him.
Second fight against Owl was stupidly difficult. However trying so many times against him gave me the skill to beat sword saint Isshin relatively easily. 😂
@@screwhalunderhill885 sekiro is objectively harder. elden ring has a lot of tools to help you beat the boss. summons, leveling a shit ton, weapon upgrades, armor, etc2.
@@SenoirMeow They just gave him an extreme amount of health. When I did it it was a 7 minute fight that required constantly keeping up agro. Tooooo long. Too much health and posture on him
Sekiro is harder, because there is really no good way to overlevel in Sekiro, or use some other OP gear found in a secret corner of the open world. Everything have are at your disposal are tuned to be just "adequate" tools to do the job. The most meaningful stat you can increase to help you in fights is your own skill.
Margit is so ez to beat ,let me teach you noob way 1st:go to the round table and speak to sorcerer rozier 2nd: get wolf summon (renna) 3rd: summon rozier before fight 4th: summon wolfs(never ,i say never let your summon die, they are so cute☺ ) 5th:just let them fight and land only heavy attacks (margit will get stuned) 6th:hit critical attacks 7th:come back and like this nb:i found this out myself i beat him lvl 30 , i didnt even know he was a difficult boss till now
he was definitely a struggle, but I think the first boss of 3 was definitely rougher, especially since at that point all you'd have fought was a couple of week undead, feel like the skill jump and overall boss is more difficult
i like how asmon says margit is the hardest boss and hasn’t even gotten to malenia yet (or maliketh, godskin duo and godfrey). Also how he always says that bosses are easy despite how much he struggled on them
@@MyouKyuubi you make good points but you dont have to be that harsh to the poor guy lul^^ then again he was kind of asking for it i guess. Also: 1. Yeah true. 2. You could just play offline if you dont like the online compnents anyways (thats what i always do because i feel like the part of the games (especially PVP) is just a mistake from the getgo that the devs refuse to let go of). But just as general info, the hacker invasions where a pretty unique Dark Souls 3 Problem and as far as i have heard Elden Ring is much safer in that regard, at least so far. But a pretty valid reason not to play it i guess. Even tho if you like the Soulsgames and are average at them like me i think you would really enjoy this one too. Has its lows but the highs are very high^^
Something I’ve noticed… there are those who struggled with Margit, and those who struggled with Godrick. Very few struggled or had no problem with both (barring over-leveled or under-leveled situations). I was the latter. What I’ve noticed is that Margit rewards aggression and punishes passivity. You can trade damage with him relatively fairly and he can be stance-broken much quicker and more frequently than Godrick. He can also be strafed, he doesn’t always need to be dodged up close. Strafing is a much more aggressive but risky defensive option. No invincibility but you’re able to attack at any point during it. Meanwhile, Godrick will hit you HARD if you try to keep aggression and trade hits with him. His shockwaves and multiple arms/hitboxes demand you don’t strafe him. However, he leaves big enough openings to reward patient players. His ranged punish options also have a windup, he needs his wind aura to punish people at range and that takes a while for him to set up. Margit will instantly throw a dagger at you if you’re too far away. Both are answers to backpedaling, but one is more effective at punishing evasion while the other is more effective at punishing aggression. That is the key difference I’ve found between those 2 bosses.
Fighting Margitt for first time was so stressful but as soon as you actually beat him you will never struggle against him again no matter what weapon or ng+ you have, he just feels so easy once you become patient
I've never gotten the sense that hes "really good" at killing you. Margit is one of my favorite bosses both pre and post patch. His fights are fun as hell and honestly if he spanks you well...maybe trying be strategic? I mean most of his moves are telegraphed well ahead (fuck those light daggers they are insanely fast.) Margit is the best boss tutorial I've seen in a long time.
If you want to get good at Dark Souls or Elden Ring, just learn music. I haven't played Elden Ring yet but I was able to count the rhythm. Rhythm is 4/4, the easiest to follow. 9:27 After he jumps and lands, his moves are: 1-2-3-4 of walking, 1 ready cane - 2 hit with cane - 3 ready sword - 4 hit with sword, 1-2-3 ready overhead cane - 4 hit overhead cane I'm not saying the boss is easy, I'm saying the rhythm is.
Margit took me about 5 or 6 tries. Once you learn not to panic roll, you're fine. That's what he teaches you essentially. Not to roll backwards in a panic, and to be aware of your footing. Watch the enemy and time your evades. And if you use shields he teaches you that you can actually block a lot of boss attacks.
I fought Margit at lvl 15 and he stomped me. I adventured some, learned some spells at the rountable, and went back at lvl 20. Still took some deaths to learn his openings, but my +3 Uchigatana, Wolf Summon, and fire sling did the trick.
It funny how everyone who never played a souls game hype his difficulty and most non challenge experience soul players probably thought like me. Go get weapon upgrades and come back after the 3 death. Seriously early game souls boss are usually more of a dps test than a skill issue.
In Dark Souls 2, Fromsoft introduced a DLC boss named Fume Knight. Fume Knight was, at that point in time, the single hardest boss in Dark Souls. For one reason. Delayed attack timings. From that moment on, Fromsoft had discovered their most powerful weapon against players. Delayed attacks. These became staples of all their most difficult bosses, like Nameless King, or Maria's *clink* attacks. A boss holding their attack juuuust long enough to punish roll spamming. You had to TIME your rolls. Margit is that, but in a first boss. But Margit also has a bunch of other tricks Fromsoft learned over the years. Ranged attacks to punish Estus use. Weirdly spaced attacks that are difficult to roll through (his hammer+stick spin), and the fact that he's just a very aggressive boss on top of it all means the player is constantly being pressured. Margit is a late game Souls boss slotted in right at front door. He might actually be one of the hardest bosses in the game, but that's a bit more subjective.
A thing that I just keep in mind whenever playing Elton ring is the wind-ups from any attack are a little slower and the actual attacks in comparison to Dark Souls 3 but they have more precision so Panic rolling is less viable and in some situations impossible so I've developed the habit of rolling as soon as I see the actual weapon or attack coming at my character
here's how i dealt with him: i crafted some poison arrows, poisoned him, stayed in a distance that was away from his knife and let the poison do the job for me. avoiding the cane was easy, the knife not so much, so as long as i kept him using only the cane all i had to do is run out the clock.
I've done a shitload of test builds in coordination with a friend of mine, so I've fought the guy so many times that at this point it isn't too hard. But then again, I've had a LOT of progress from first hour to seventeenth character (LOT of testing).
I didn’t go straight to Margit. I knew the golden lines or the “guidances of grace” were there but I didn’t trust it to point me towards the easiest bosses first as soon as I encountered the Tree Sentry. So I explored the map right away. Caelid naturally made me feel like I was in over my head, so I returned to first area and noticed a secondary guidance of grace pointing me south, so I followed that. In the end I completed quite a lot of the introductory area before I rechallenged the sentry and then continued on my path. I knew I could just go around the sentry, but I wanted to defeat it before continuing the golden path. So my detour started good and early. Once I challenged Margit, he was a bit of challenge I suppose, but I had a few wolves helping me out and a sorcerer drawing aggro away. And I learned quickly that one of the best tools against Margit is to stand uphill and jump over his sweeping attacks and quickly punish. He’s quite susceptible to getting stunned and you get an opening then for big damage. Having some spells doesn’t hurt either. Going full melee feels like a poor choice this time around with so many mage options out there and bows and such. People call magic “overpowered”, but there are tools in the game to punish full magic users, strength builds just have to adapt to using something other than pure melee or assign the right ashes to their weapons.
Imagine being from the golden lineage, defender of leyndell, and you are trying to keep a tarnished from messing with the golden order even though your mom who ran the golden order hated you and a tarnished keeps on respawining in your arena pulling out a notebook and jotting down your entire moveset and proceed to beat you senseless
I beat margit by mixing my rolls with shield block...it's really that simple. Margit deals both holy and physical damage. With the brass shield you get early on and the shackle you can get him to level two easily. From then onwards, you can you block all his physical attacks and roll out his holy attack. This strategy worked really well for me. I think when people fight bosses, they ignore the properties of the type of damage the boss inflicts, this is what should to some degree influence your build and overall battle strategy for that specific boss. Just aimlessly rolling can get you in trouble like rolling off a cliff, rolling into a corner you cant escape from or even mis-timing your rolls.
What I did to beat him at level 52 was summon the wolves, drank a magic potion, used the meteorite staff, and then I used the sword of night and flame 5+ for the remainder of the fight and I won on like the 6th or 7th try, it’s my first souls game and beating a boss is satisfying asf
If you get the minimal requirements for the uchigatana and then get about 6 flasks at +3 , put two into fp, put the rest of your levels into vigor until vigor 27 or 30, just keep using the unsheathe ability from the katana and margit will die if you are good enough.
The music analogy really got to me. As a musician this is literally how I beat bosses*. When he says “In my limited musical experience keeping time gets harder the slower you go,” I can’t help but think, “Well count 8th notes then.” Then he makes it worse, saying “How do you count this? W-w-w-one.” Usually you count 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and. Some attacks land on the 1. Other attacks land on the four. Some will take all the way up to five or six, and of course anywhere in between. Count ALL the attacks at the same speed, note which beat each attack lands on, et voila, punish the boss at your leisure. *all enemies can be approached this way to be fair.
How to perform a traditional from software heavy attack. Raise your sword over your head. Raise it to your back. Raise up one foot. Put the foot down. Put your head down. Attack.
Margit is extremelly hard for the ‘purist’ (no summon, no spell, etc…). But if you go explore, you will find an item (reusable) that will allow you to breeze through the 1st phase of the fight. Which means you will have all your summon and Roger on the second phase with full health. I think Margit was designed to be a challenge for veteran and force new player to go explorer and uses/learns the mechanic the game put in your hand to make the fight easier. But yeah, if you don’t find the stuff, it’s a nightmare.
it was just designed so that you dont go in there within the first 2 hours of starting the game. It teaches you to unlearn the poke boss butt, and it teaches you you need to explore not speedrun. Excellent boss. I went in there and killed in one shot bc I had done a castle/dungeon or two (like its designed for), and I fucking died 21 times to Judex 2 years ago. if they made him ANY easier, ppl who actually explored would find it so easy its not a worthy boss. Again, it was a fucking joke at like level 22 (WHICH IS INTENDED)
ive been doing a lot of coop runs and one thing ive definitely noticed thats different from other souls games is its very very hard to abuse boss aggro, the Ai *wants* to focus the host really badly. the aggro tank/farcast mage combo isnt perfectly safe, malenia for example will swap targets mid combo and just leap across the arena at you
Bro he’s to damn easy to take down idk why so many people found him hard he’s slow and predictable, so from my experience It shouldn’t take more than 3 times to try
I beat Margit at level 22 with two Uchigatanas level 3 and 2 upgrades. My biggest realization was that locking on was a thing. I don’t know if not using that made the fight easier or more difficult honestly.
I didn't realize Margit was given folks such a time. I just did the mapped area around Limgrave before hitting up Margit and I want to say it only took me about 5 to 7 tries. What wrecked my face was the Stormveil evergaol dude. That's the only one so far that made me go, "I think I'm not prepared for this fight yet." Then I came back with a buckler and 50 levels under my belt to drop him. But I probably died like 25 times or more on him before coming back that final time.
I don't know what to tell you. I was too stubborn at that point to level up. After around 3 to 4 hours, I beat Margit with barely any upgrades. I was only at level 15 lol. And I was actually too afraid to parry him, so I dodged my way to victory after like, 40 to 50 tries. I literally just got good. No summonings, no casting spells, no bull. Just me, and my Uchigatana vs. Margit. And it felt so satisfying getting that W.
I also hate the long windup attacks. The magma wyrm that stands up and holds the sword above its head for ages always gets me. But when i got the hang of it, I could kill it.
When the game first dropped I spent 6 hours fighting Margit at lvl 15, my hard head couldn’t break through and had to grind the next day before coming back and sweeping him up
Margits only annoying thing is his charged swipe and dagger throw, constantly roll catches me. You fight Morgot and hes fairly fast, then you got to NG+ and Margit is painfully slow and you start rolling 1.5 roll timings before you should.
You can love or hate Margit but let's face it, he's one of the most memorable bosses in Elden Ring. We will always remember to put our foolish ambitions to rest from time to time.
Fought Morgott yesterday, Margit was harder for me.
Tho atm the other brother Mohg is a different level
Just started fighting him last night. Done about 10 or so attempts, gotten him low but not quite there

@Pierce the HEAVENS! Ty for the tip, mimic tear +10 was enough, i am a strength build and we had her staggered the whole time.
@SeraWasNever beat her in 2 minutes on my 3rd play through Bleed OP
@SeraWasNever or just not break controllers
@SeraWasNever no need to thank me
He specifically delays his attacks to stop panic rolling. It’s aggravating at first but you get used to it.
@@GriFFonRec4 yeah. What I’ve learned is there isn’t really ends to the attacks. You have to be able to attack and dodge within the boss combos
I love it.

Justifiable Opinion, I totally agree but I also understand that players quit Elden Ring because of Margit, very unfortunately
@@mcslayer9796 wait you beat margit first try but struggled with fire giant?
He's not. He's fun but he's no good mechanically, you rarely get windows.
I beat him first try....at level 82 with +18 weapons, I love Elden Ring.
I just beat him lvl 16 with +1 😂
Mine is lvl 88 with lvl 12 weapons xD
I beat him first try too, at lvl 170 with maxed staff and moonveil on NG+!!
To be fair, I also beat him at lvl 40ish with an Estoc on my first playthrough after 3 tries.
What in God's man are u doing in limgrave at level 82, like that's hard even with farming
I just beat most southern bosses and dungeons with a lvl 1 wretch no hit. Just need to get to the giants and im headed to the fire giant.
You can beat him at level 9 pretty easily if you have the goblin summons are a samurai and or bandit in a couple tries.

Taught me to panic shield instead
@@divine0enigma Shields in Elden Ring are legit really good. They don't counter everything but they do enough to make the game much easier.

He's a skill check is what he is. 100%
@@andrewwitham8493even for skill check you need to be relative in level to the boss you are fighting
I avoid those openings that I know he will conjure that sword and I'll just gonna let him jump because those are easy to counter.
i wouldn’t say he uses daggers based on distance. But his attacks are patterned. You can recognize what attack he uses before he throws daggers.
Yup, where you land after dodging attacks is super important. Teaches you to keep watching him after every attack instead of just memorizing patterns
He also raises his hand when hes gonna use his daggers it's quite interesting
That is in the video
This is why I use parries. Can't use a 4 hit combo if you stopped on the first one.
are you talking about the combo where the third attack is impossible to dodge? unless you dodge the first, get hit by the second and dodge the staff ( third hit) , because you can't dodge both the second and the third hit.
Not to mention he does chip damage too. He's insane but even as a newbie who disliked souls games before I kinda like it
youp, pretty much thats it.

First fight I was definitely underprepared. When I explore, doubled my level, 23 to 46, and I think I overprepared.
I'm a completionist so I did literally everything else first, anything I saw I beat right there and then even if it took me several hours 😅 needless to say, Margit was easily 1st tried after all that.
Bro I tried Margit just to see how he was. Knew I needed more health, plain and simple (also newer to souls games) I got to like level 58 and then remembered “oh shit I gotta go face margit!” 🤣🤣 I’m sitting here looking at this dude vigor and am saying “it almost like you didn’t think you’d die in 2 hits” lol
Also beat godrick in a few tries and was easy af with the summon assistance. Rushed his ass with some claws and made that bitch bleed
I love Margit. When I encountered him as Morgott, I said to my screen: "Alright, one last dance my friend."
Morgott was such a badass fight

And then you put his foolish ambitions to rest
Morgott was easier then margit
@@andrewwagner7363 After leveling, sure was
It’s a wonderfully designed boss placed in the best place possible. Think that he’s meant to be that way to basically tell you to comeback after you explore limgrave and then you end up seeing how the exploration in this game is on a whole other level.
I did lot of South map and I killed him in the first try lul

@Vandole I don't think he is worse compare to gundyr and vordt. He is here to teach you "go explore, get better or try hard", a skill check. YOU CAN ROLL THROUGH HIS ATTACK, there is a few think you need find out to prevent you get into that situation.
"looool it's not a hard boss. I leveled up to 50 and got the weapon speedrunners use, and the boss was easy" - average twitch chat user.
Most souls veterans won't find him that difficult. Mainly a problem for people new to the series
A lot of people seem to miss the part that Elden Ring is an open world game. Margit is basically a gatekeeper. Unless you explored enough and leveled, you shall not pass him.
that concept and the way they implemented it is just so cool to me.
Usually.
you don't even need to pass him, you can just go around the castle lmao
Margit is the living embodiment of "you gon' learn today!"
I'm new to a souls game and didn't know that Margit is considered 1 of the harder bosses. Yes, I died like 50 times to him but it's a little more reassuring that the other bosses will not be as painful as him :) I'm currently at castle morne.
Good luck...
I beat him in like an hour, as a noob I'm like super proud of myself. That 2+ samurai sword gets shit done.
Same the samurai class is pretty much the beat starting class.
you were carried by the bleed buildup
Beat margit as a wretch while underleveled, took many hours but the feeling of acomplishment was huge. Whenever I get stuck on a hard boss in any video game, I always try to only dodge and learn all the attacks before I try to actually attack them. I think Minos Prime from ULTRAKILL is the best example I can give, you are forced to learn how to parry, and the timings are very precise
I beat him underleveled a bit, but as a vagabond. Ill have to try this lol

Godrick was pretty similar too with his style. For the whirlwind attack, if you are close he does a jump attack and lands on you but if you are far he just shoots 2 wind shots that go really far. And his second phase with the fire was rough for me.
The hard part about margit too is that depending on your location in relation to him he chains up combos you thought was an opening.
"the hold is like 70% of the difficulty for me" Words cannot describe how much I relate to that statement
I think one of the biggest "problems" Elden Ring has, is that sites of grace point towards a boss, so naturally your instinct is to follow that path.
My natural instinct was to go everywhere BUT that direction
Jump R2, stagger. Boom!
This is the way. The main lesson margit teaches you is punishable and non punishable attacks. Roll in for the former and roll out for the latter. Phase 2 is easier, because he panic attacks with his hammer smash and dual spins, letting you punish him more. Just bait and punish
Margit is a boss to tell you, if you cant Beat me up now, just go outside level a little, upgrade weapon and Come back when You ready for proper duel
And then come back at lvl 40, everthing pumped into magic and obliterate him from afar. 😅
Level 25. Did plenty of damage he just has a ton of health. And his combos are relentless
that dagger...THAT FUCKING DAGGER
Margit is such a cool and unique boss fight. I beat Margit by doing most of my damage in between his attack strings and recovering right on time to dodge. Took me awhile to beat him but it felt great beating him

This is the way
I had heard how hard he was and came in expecting a tough battle. Literally two light attacks off on my 3rd go at level 14. Might just level a little bit more then commit to the challenge. That 5 swing combo can mess you up if you get your first dodge wrong
The main thing I noticed fighting him was that he is not a difficult boss it’s just that he has like 10-15 different attacks that make it impossible to memorize his attack patterns since every attack can change depending on where you are in the arena
Edit after two years: man i sucked at the game when i wrote the above portion im now in my second play through to play the dlc and margit is honestly the easiest boss its not that you can’t learn patterns or etc he is a beautifully designed boss that is a great learning experience on how to deal with at least 95-99% of every boss in the game
Leveled up my character a shit tonne (mainly Vigor and Endur) by defeating every other smaller boss I could find, gitgud + killing the Stormhill giants every time I rode past (didn't even think of it as "farming" at the time, was only to gitgud fighting on Torrent.)
+I also accidentally made Castle Morne's NPC Edgar aggro by fighting agroup of enemies next to him while he was at the end of his quest :'( so I killed him and got his sweet weapon lol.
I didn't see any indication to head to the peninsula so by the time I found it, I'd cleaned up limgrave, stormveil and the forest.
Stormveil is a bit higher then 20
@@warriorfire8103They didn’t do a good job on that. There is only one way into it. Has kind if an intimidating entrance. However the area is easy, gives you a lot of level shards 1.
The game sooner has you arrive at Caelid than it does the penesula, with that trapped chest and portal in east limgrave.
Stormveil is often tackled first at 25ish, to do all of Stormveil and its hidden areas, I’d suggest going there at level 30 or up.
The answer: everyone rushes to fight him instead of spending time leveling and exploring the area.
Doing this I beat him in a couple of tries
Also, if they actually explore, they can figure out that you have Margit's shackle or you can even technically skip the whole castle lol. But i guess theres lot of people that would rather finish the game than actually playing it.
This is called overfarming.
I read 'unuseable in his two boss fights' for a moment and laughed my ass off thinking "thats the most patches thing ever"
I feel like I'm one of the only people who had no difficulty with Margit but then got destroyed for three days on Godrick lmao
I found your channel when I saw the greatsword video😂😂 love the content already bro!

I really love how this is basically a rythym game with margit and many other bosses.
This is true, every enemy has a rhythm in a way. And it's all visually translated beautifully.
the more beatiful thing is that theyre not just a rehearsed song being played out its more like an impromptu jazz session with you and the boss doing call and response.
Lore wise, margit feeling more difficult then godrick makes sense
I felt like the crucible knight was the gate keeper for me. Even after I found out you could parry his moves, that took me days.
Sekiro is just way harder than elden ring imo
Hearing that a lot of people had a hard time with Margit makes me feel a lot better after how long it took me to beat him.
Margit is so ez to beat ,let me teach you noob way
1st:go to the round table and speak to sorcerer rozier
2nd: get wolf summon (renna)
3rd: summon rozier before fight
4th: summon wolfs(never ,i say never let your summon die,they are so cute☺ )
5th:just let them fight and land only heavy attacks (margit will get stuned)
6th:hit critical attacks
7th:come back and like this
nb:i found this out myself i beat him lvl 30 , i didnt even know he was a difficult boss till now
he was definitely a struggle, but I think the first boss of 3 was definitely rougher, especially since at that point all you'd have fought was a couple of week undead, feel like the skill jump and overall boss is more difficult
i like how asmon says margit is the hardest boss and hasn’t even gotten to malenia yet (or maliketh, godskin duo and godfrey). Also how he always says that bosses are easy despite how much he struggled on them
I always laugh when people come into the comments to say a boss wasn’t hard. Like congrats, but no one cares or is impressed with how good you are.
@@MyouKyuubi please tell me this is a pasta and you didn't actually just type this all out
@@MyouKyuubi you’re average at the game aren’t you?
@@MyouKyuubi you make good points but you dont have to be that harsh to the poor guy lul^^ then again he was kind of asking for it i guess.
Also:
1. Yeah true.
Has its lows but the highs are very high^^
only early strength builds had this problem
im fighting for my fucking life out here using a colossal hammer 😭
For me it was rough with an Uchi aswell
@@Teh_Duck just spam heavy unsheathe what? 3 of them staggers him and it's all easy game from there..
I mean most of his moves are telegraphed well ahead (fuck those light daggers they are insanely fast.)
Margit is the best boss tutorial I've seen in a long time.
If you want to get good at Dark Souls or Elden Ring, just learn music. I haven't played Elden Ring yet but I was able to count the rhythm. Rhythm is 4/4, the easiest to follow. 9:27 After he jumps and lands, his moves are:
1-2-3-4 of walking,
1 ready cane - 2 hit with cane - 3 ready sword - 4 hit with sword,
1-2-3 ready overhead cane - 4 hit overhead cane
I'm not saying the boss is easy, I'm saying the rhythm is.
Because he punishes panic rolls and from introduced input reading while giving him a ranged projectile that is faster than your potion animation
It funny how everyone who never played a souls game hype his difficulty and most non challenge experience soul players probably thought like me. Go get weapon upgrades and come back after the 3 death. Seriously early game souls boss are usually more of a dps test than a skill issue.
He's a literal gatekeeper commanding the scrubs who got into souls for the first time to "put this foolish ambitions to rest". I love the guy
but gino bare hand (no weapon used) defeat margit in one go for 2 hours straight
To be fair elden ring just came out and alot of souls players where on a vacation from playing them, also alot of new players, 5 mil more of them.
I beat him first try after exploring most of the starter area. I never understood why people had such an issue. I assumed everyone played that way
I didn’t go straight to Margit.
3:08 agreed. Look at how much of a wall the Smelter demon was for that exact reason
When he says “In my limited musical experience keeping time gets harder the slower you go,” I can’t help but think, “Well count 8th notes then.”
Then he makes it worse, saying “How do you count this? W-w-w-one.”
Usually you count 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and.
Again, it was a fucking joke at like level 22 (WHICH IS INTENDED)
ive been doing a lot of coop runs and one thing ive definitely noticed thats different from other souls games is its very very hard to abuse boss aggro, the Ai *wants* to focus the host really badly. the aggro tank/farcast mage combo isnt perfectly safe, malenia for example will swap targets mid combo and just leap across the arena at you
Majority of instinct says roll backwards or jus to the sides. Best option 90% of the time is to roll into attack towards boss.
Yeah delayed attacks require you to learn the timing which can be both very nice or annoying.
The knight w the shield and spear at the gatefront ruins gave me wayyyy MORE trouble than Margit did 😂
Bro he’s to damn easy to take down idk why so many people found him hard he’s slow and predictable, so from my experience It shouldn’t take more than 3 times to try
You get a 3-week notice on all of Margit’s moves and they’ll still hit you.
Pain.
Margit. And it felt so satisfying getting that W.
i love how asmon uploads this with a "rolling eyes face" when he was struggling with margit himself.
One attack I was never able to burn into my head, was that random quick cane uppercut he would do
I also hate the long windup attacks. The magma wyrm that stands up and holds the sword above its head for ages always gets me. But when i got the hang of it, I could kill it.
When the game first dropped I spent 6 hours fighting Margit at lvl 15, my hard head couldn’t break through and had to grind the next day before coming back and sweeping him up
I agree with the holds. Its easier to react to an immediate motion, followed by an immeditlate attack.
counting margits attacks musically is like counting meshuggah all at once
I got punished by the cane uppercut so much that it is now the one attack I can reliably dodge.
Margits only annoying thing is his charged swipe and dagger throw, constantly roll catches me. You fight Morgot and hes fairly fast, then you got to NG+ and Margit is painfully slow and you start rolling 1.5 roll timings before you should.
