Fender sure can thank Pete for selling lots of those yellow Jaguars! He made that thing sound incredible. And you can just tell he was genuinely loving playing that guitar and it really brought out a lot of creativity in him.
Another great review guys. I recently bought the Player 2 Jazzmaster as the Coral Red colour was as close as I have seen to the Fiesta Red 1962 Jazzmaster I bought in 1971, (and stupidly sold it a year later)- so a nostalgic purchase for me. I've never used the rhythm circuit in any Jazzmaster, and I was pleased that Fender deleted it in this model. They are excellent guitars and hard to fault. A red Jazzmaster was my first ever Fender, and now the red Player 2 will probably be my last Fender being the old fart that I am. Cheers to the Captain and Pete!
I like the look and sound of that Jag. As a Gibson player I like the layout and I don’t really mind the missing rhythm circuits as I’d probably never use them anyway.
I bought the player 2 jag a couple weeks after launch and I absolutely love it. The missing switches made me pause at first, but I can get similar sound by turning the tone down. I listened to a bunch of sound comparisons on jaguars and the player 2 sounded the best with the new pickups. The shorter scale length was new for me, but I really enjoy it after a having this guitar a little more than a month.
So good to hear you guys go heavy on the reverb for an opening jam! You should consider getting a couple of players to cover the ambient pedals from time to time, I know it’s not “your thing” so why not get a couple of contributors/ambassadors to do that stuff from time to time 🙌🏻
I'll definitely need to try out the Jazzmaster. I've been wanting one for over a year now. I love the blue finish and rolled fretboard. It really is too bad that they didn't include the circuit. I'm not sure how much I'd use it though.
I like the 3 switches on a Jaguar instead of the blade switch, which includes a "strangle switch', a kind of high-pass filter. But I understand this is a modern take on a Jaguar.
Pop in a free-way tele switch there. 2 row 3 way switch that adds series and phase (the strangle switch) as top-row positions. That's what I did with a squier Jaguar, and replaced the 3 switch plate with a Johnny marr plate and then rerouted the rhythm circuit through the freeway master output so I could use the rhythm circuit pots for any pickup config.
Aside for the pick ups and longer scale length and greater string tension on the Jazzmaster is what makes it sound so much tighter then the jag. Personally I prefer the Jag.
I want a Jaguar... but that's not a full Jaguar. It's a step closer than the last one. Why is the Squier Classic Vibe the only 'real' one available without going Custom Shop?
I just bought a Classic Vibe. Was waiting to see what the Player II would bring, but it’s just not a real Jag. I don’t care though because the CV is so good.
@@daviddenoncourt757 possibly, although I'm not sure about the maple board. Meanwhile the Jazzmaster has American Professional and American Vintage options (plus a Performer but that has the wrong bridge and fewer switches)
Jazzmasters used to come with a 1meg volume pot. Maybe they still do? They're more trebly. The good folks at That Pedal Show didn't enjoy how spiky the Jazzmaster can be.
I don't like the more sensible switching, I like how ridiculous the originals were. I play a Jazzmaster and a Mustang and I have to tape things down and it's a whole deal and I LOVE IT lol
Always thought The Captain was a shorter scale length kind of guy just from the shine of his boots. Whereas Pete loves to go long all day long. Well at least until the pubs open,
to me i love love love the jazzmaster. why? because to me the scale of guitars goes les paul to jazzmaster. on the les paul end it is the guitar that more than any other makes you want to play something. every way you set your amp it is going to make you think of a band or a song and you are gonna want to play it. they jazzmaster is going to make you want to make something. you start playing it and start thinking about some eclectic song you could make or some song looking back. ...that kind of thing. it makes you creative. that is why i love it.
you've just saved my 699 quid :) was about to get a Fender Jaguar Player, though this video made me realise that this tone doesn't fit my music. thanks guys!
Love it when Fender refresh their range - huge discounts to be on their old stock. In the past 4 months I've bought 2 strats, 2 teles, 2 offsets, and a J- bass (5 maple, 2 pau ferro) all new with neck plate and pickguard stickers on for under 500 each. Thank you Fender, you'll do for me! 👍
What a shame regarding the circuit & term arm on the JM. I do like the swapping of the default bridge. Shame they didn't take more from the Johnny Marr Jag when it comes to trem arm and bridge fixes. Bottom line I don't think these will stand the test of time when it comes to memorability. They are simply a dumbing down of the better American professional models to me.
just love the sound of that yellow jaguar i would like to no what strings are on there far as i no thay come with 9s how the hell is he getting that fat sound if there 9s have thay been changed and all set up that thay dont tell you if there strait out of the box demo.
Mm all new player II models sound more or less the same.. The Jazzmaster does not sound like a Jazzmaster, the Jaguar does not sound like a Jaguar, they all sound like between a telecaster and stratocaster.. The current Squier versions to me sound better i think ..
I don't understand why Fender continues to leave the lock off the Squier and MiM offsets, it's part of what makes the Jazzmaster trem so perfect in my opinion.
How can they not put the cool switches on the Jaguars. Don’t say it’s a cost issue as they are on the cheap squire guitars. Madness decision by fender.
A real shame that they got cheap and removed the rhythm circuit. I'm a Jazzmaster player, and I do USE that! Very happy they now have the split shaft tuners!
A little free advice? DON'T do the vice/trem arm thing! I've broken 3 Strat arms, over the years, trying that very thing. Thank god for the Gilmour strat arm.
It's so Ironic that the Jazzmaster was created to be for Jazz players, yet hardly any Jazz players use a Jazzmaster. Jazzmasters are more used by Shoegaze and Surf Rock players. You could play any style of music on any guitar though.
It's funny how guitar demos stick to stereotype images. No shredding or blues in this one for example even though it makes no difference at all what guitar you have.
I’m new to the jag and jazzmaster, so I’m just curious as to what exactly is the point of the rhythm circuit? It seems pointless from an outsiders perspective
@@naturaljoe7397 With the rhythm circuit you get a built in "preset" with the flick of a switch. Also, I really enjoy the slightly wooly sound it can get out of my otherwise trebly Jaguar pickups.
These are definitely trying to appeal to the (I'm guessing a multitude) of folks who are intimidated by the complexity of the traditional Jaguar and JM control layouts. They're not hard to learn, but there's many guitarists who see those controls and think they're being asked to land a plane.
"I watch some films were they swap..." I'm sure you do Pete, probably entirely too many, especially judging by the way you stroke those fretboards. Until they get Pete a ball-gag with his name on to go along with his goggles I'm done with this channel. In other words, shut and play yer guitar, as Zappa said, because this guy is worse than Ed McMahon.
Affinity features at a Fender price tag, an interesting strategy. I do think these are better than the first Player series, but it would be cool to have full-featured import versions of these guitars for under $1k imo.
These are the MIM version of the MIJ Hybrid II series. The Hybrid II pickups are cr@p but the rest of the MIJ H2 is better than these MIM P2's. Some used ones on Reverb for ~$1K.

That Jaguar sounds surprisingly good!
The screw in the middle of the bridge plate will adjust the relief on the Trem arm. 👍
Excited for v2 of the Player Plus guitars!
They’re pretty great so far. Just did a video on the tele - fender turned this series around
I'll be excited if they came with roasted maple necks and had contoured neck heels like the Squier Contemporary does.
Roasted neck with stainless steel frets, ultra rolled board with bone nut.
I was knocked out by how good the Squier J. Mascis Jazzmaster is! It's definitely got me into Fender offsets, and I want to get a Jaguar too now! 😎
Pete makes everything sound good.
"I like films like that where they swap, it's not on youtube" bro didn't hold back, wow. I really like the Jaguar in that last position, what a sound.

Nice Job, Great guitars🎉🎉
The Jag looks wrong without those metal plates. Oh well, I’m sure someone will love them.

Iv been thinking of the jag or jazz, can't decide. Like both. Great review. Thanks so much Pete and Cap. They look great.
That jag looking greeeeeeeeat. Damn
“best locking tuners ever” couldn’t agree more. 👍🏻
That Jaguar sounds ace, the shorter scale definitely taming the spikiness of the bridge pickup.
Great use of a ‘passing tone’ at 0.25 - well recovered 🫢
If the jag had all the vintage switches I would have been poorer
i LOVE offset guitars

I was wondering why Lee sounded pissed and the guitar weird then realised I was playing it at 0.75% speed 😂

I want to hear the Ren & Stimpy theme on that yellow Jag, REAL bad! It's got the perfect amount of spankiness. 👨🍳💋
A jag isn't a jag if it doesn't have a rhythm circuit in my opinion. It's just part of it's identity.
Is it me, or the low E is a bit too close to the edge of the fretboard on the white cream one?
Now tell Gibson to do the same £699 that’s an affordable nice looking git.
