As someone who builds nuclear shelters for families, the use of asbestos and the flimsy mesh used would be a no-no, plus you want a escape exit or its just a tomb. It also needs to be about twice the size to be able to live in it for 14+ days for fallout. So sink, toilet and macerator to pump the waste up and out, addition of shower is a luxury. Water storage and power storage with deployable fold out solar panels to run intake and extraction fan with carbon filters, run lighting and cook with, add some beds and books games etc and you're done. BUT building a bunker yourself using repurposed materials is hard and I'd give this man 10/10 for effort and 5/10 score on his bunker.

In the event of a nuclear war for example you still gonna die unless you it can stay underground for months with months of food, water and means to filter air. If your in eroupe of North America your fucked. If your a soldier in Intel you would know this as you would know there be like maybe a 30 min warning before all hell breaks loose. And that would depend on where you live. If your near a big city or a military base yea your done. Bunker is something different. This is an underground cell or dispensary with probably bad ventilation and in the future a good mushroom spot or other unhealthy bacteria & radon. The walls with asbestos panels (cut probably without any mask or coverage) is the cherry on the cake. Good luck for the owner.

I've often considered building an underground bunker and studied a lot of builds and techniques. I have also built many sheds, garages, tiny houses and retaining walls. The problem with bunker builds such as this is that one mistake will ruin the entire build. It is a shame to see someone working so hard on a build only to omit a critical factor that jeopardises the whole thing.
The overarching problem with this build is drainage. It relies entirely on membranes to keep the water out with no way to reduce the water pressure against the walls and floor. The problem is rarely water going down into the bunker. It's water rising up from underneath.
In building any below-ground level structure -- even a retaining wall -- two questions have to be answered: 1. How do I keep the water out? and 2. What do I do with the water that gets in? In most cases the failure is caused by not addressing the second question.
Underground water pressure can be extraordinarily high. It can even pop empty concrete pools out of the ground. Pool builders have to install one-way valves at the bottom their pools to stop this from happening! One single weakness in the membranes of this bunker will result in the pressurised groundwater entering the structure.
This bunker has numerous weaknesses where water can enter. There is no apparent way to collect and remove the water before it gets into the living area. The floor and walls are backfilled with dirt with no drainage layer at all, meaning that water will constantly push in against the walls and up under the floor. It will find any crack or weakness in the membranes and force its way inside. Even worse, tree roots can grow all the way up to the walls without encountering any barrier and the lack of a drainage layer means they cannot even inject a herbicide to kill roots that find their way through. Tree roots easily break concrete over time.
Over my life, I have seen and even lived in many structures that have had major problems with drainage issues. It is the most common issue with man-made structures. Even professional builds have drainage problems due to improper drainage, including my father's house which was built in 1999. My father failed to recognise the drainage issues before he signed off on the build and the council didn't notice the problems either. He has dealt with flooding issues ever since.
How would this fellow fix the problem now? Well, he would have to excavate down the entire length of the walls and an extra foot past that, then install 200um plastic against the concrete walls, a riser pipe and 30cm of drainage gravel back up to ground level. A huge job but I am afraid it is the only way to fix this problem.
RUclips has dozens of "failed bunker fills with water" videos. Anyone who wants to build a bunker or cellar should take careful note of why other builds caused problems and talk to a professional engineer before starting.

You really know how a man is when you see them do something like this. Shows character. I've been "thinking about" building a small house underground. Preferably out in the middle of nowhere. Would be cool to have an underground camping spot that nobody knew about not too far away from home.. Hopefully we don't ever get nuked. The way things are nowadays anything is possible and maybe anything has always been possible but it seems it's a bit more possible now at least from what's told to us via the news. Sometimes when I look at the big picture I don't know who exactly runs this country. I don't think it's who most people believe it is. Too many things we are told make no real sense.. God bless the USA. We need it now more than ever! 🙏 God bless you and your family too man. Great job on the bunker! Sound like a bunch of project managers trying to tell you how to build your bunker on here. 🤣 One thing is for sure. You built it. And it's solid. It is all about what we do and how we do what we do. What we say means very little. Actions speak for themselves. God bless you and your family man. Awesome job! 🙏
Awesome bunker though! Just from watching this short time lapse video I can tell you are the kind of man that doesn't leave till the jobs 100% done no corners cut and your wife loves you. Otherwise she wouldn't be helping. Haha! I may know a few people who have a wife who helps them on things like this.. Most do not though. lol. Definitely more corner cutters than those who don't that's for sure. Y'all are blessed man. 🙏

People are awfully quick to judge this guy. I don't think he's building a doomsday bunker or anything that's going to take a direct hit. Just something that is going to provide him temporary shelter from debris. He obviously lives in an area of the world where there is a necessity for this and came up with a cost-effective way to build it. If I were in his position, I'd probably try to do something similar.

Yeah, I work in design and we figured out maybe 30 years ago to use pure yellow for subtitles. Otherwise, you can't read them when they're over a white background. Pure yellow is a rare color in the world. Also, you can buy a prefabricated shelter of similar quality for that price, maybe a little more. Neither would be 'bomb' proof though. Missiles tend to penetrate 10 times the length of the missile. So a 10-foot missile will penetrate 100 feet into the ground. That shelter isn't going to save you. Might be fun to hide in when it's time to do chores though.
