😂 A friendly reminder to the producers: When dealing with the Mandarin language, remember to include the Chinese characters for the native speakers. The Latin-alphabet transcription is only meant for understanding the pronunciation of the words. It can be time consuming or slightly annoying even for Mandarin speakers to decipher whole sentences using that. It's like asking Koreans to read out Korean in its 'Romanized' form, or asking Japanese to read their texts fully typed in 'Romaji'. We are not used to doing that. I had the same reaction as the Chinese girl at 5:40 😂
I have to agree. I don't even speak Chinese but I think I could understand something if they used Chinese characters 😹😹😹😹😹
Not only to native speakers is difficult to read the romanization but also to everybody who speaks Chinese

The tones is what gets most people more than the actual words.
nah, if you get all the sounds right but tones wrong, it's still mostly understandable. But most people don't get the sounds right either.

Often the case when the context is clear, the tones really does not matter that much.
For your buddy's case, it's more likely that he messed up pronunciation pretty bad as well lol.

ya context is super important. Cuz there're no tones in singing either but it's understandable cuz of context

I was choking 😂, laughed so hard with the tongue twisters! The pronunciation is so difficult for me at least. Niki was impressive pulling the correct answer out of the hat 😮! This was a fun one, all of the participants tried their best and was respectful of the Mandarin language. ❤
It’s one of the most common tongue twisters so she got it after the first few words. I was literally crying while watching them tho 😂

The tongue twisters part reminded me of my childhood, also the second person actually pronounced it pretty much like how we pronounce it in DongBei since it’s difficult for most of use to pronounce “sh.” This video is extremely entertaining lol

the laotou one is even difficult for us native speakers to memorize it fully by being told once.
After 1 minute I already forgot it 😭. I only remember the first part, then I'm saying my dad's name 50 times
Just try to remember the first several words of a lengthy tongue twister in a language you're unfamiliar with, forget the rest of the words and hope for the best.
There's no way my brain could remember more than 6-8 words in a language I can barely pronounce, so I wouldn't even try.
I mean as an English speaker all someone would have to say is 'how much wood' and I would know immediately what tongue twister they're referring to I wouldn't need them to say the whole thing.
Because tongue twisters are used to learn to have a flat tongue and become warped, but I am from Sichuan, and I basically speak Mandarin with a flat tongue. 所以我们一起来学中文吧？（So let's learn Chinese together.）
In Mandarin, 14 is 十四 (Shi Si) (Ten Four), and 40 is 四十 (Si Shi) (Four Ten), and they both have similar pronounciations, so that's why it's a tongue twister.

The explanation at 7:26 is wrong! It literally means that the old man brought soup up the tower, the tower was slippery, the soup spilled, and scalded either the man (ta1 他) or the tower (ta3 塔). It's not clear without the actual Chinese words.

Tongue twisters are hard enough in your own language, imagine trying to pronounce them in a language you don't even speak after being to them by someone else who also doesn't speak the language. I love these videos, they're entertaining and educational at the same time and learning is always easier when it's fun.

汉语最难的就是口语声调。语法非常非常简单，没有词性变化，除此之外类似英语结构。每一个字代表一定的含义，但是每个字的形成都有一定的规则，比较容易记忆，如果你没记住字的发音仅仅记住每个字的形状和含义，大概认识2000多汉字就可以看懂中国文章和书籍。所以，最难的是每个字的声调，其次每个汉字的书写，但是所有汉字都是由笔划和偏旁部首组成，这些笔划和偏旁部首数量不是非常多，很容易记住，大概一两个月就能掌握书写规则。所有，汉语的书面系统很容易学，口语比较难学。希望对你有帮助。

From what I have learned, yes, since much of korean vocabulary comes from chinese.

As a person who didn't learn Chinese I always recognise Chinese language by a lot of ch and sh sounds. Also I think that Chinese speakers are always very expressive like they never just say something, but always have to watch their intonation
well we don't really have to watch anything it's just built into the words. kinda like how you just naturally say the "a" in "apple" and "ate" differently

Now I get that when your mother tongue is not a tonal one, then it would be really hard for you to get the tones. My mother tongue is Vietnamese, which is a tonal language, and has more tones than Chinese, so I always find Chinese pronunciation is not hard at all. After 3 months of self-study, I can communicate with Chinese in simple topics. For me, except for writing, which requires you to have to remember the characters, anything else is fine, not difficult
