Miss these tough phases of test cricket. Survived this phase and you were a cut above the rest.
Ricky was special and a tough nut to crack open. What we loved about him as captain was that he made tough calls and took hard decisions.
Really looking forward to how he manages Delhi in the IPL because he has a lot of good players to manage.

Now with so many premier leagues, t20s and t10s the game has lost it's essence. People retiring early to play for leagues, people quitting tests and odi to focus on shorter format, powerplays, more workload, more injuries.. sigh..

The only other captain in recent memory that deserves similar respect was Graeme Smith from SA. He also had a similar attitude to captaincy that commanded respect.

@Shahi Ghuman You must be a kid who's just started watching cricket recently. Ponting's achievements can never be compared or mentioned of in the same breath as any of the captains ever as his record is phenomenal.
2 World Cups + 2 Champions Trophies + 15 years of World Dominance in both the formats (t20 cricket being Mickey mouse cricket) winning everywhere and practically unbeatable in Australia.
It was quite cheeky of you to slip in Asia Cup and the IPL in there to boost up Dhoni's stats. Asia Cup features merely 3 good teams with SL and Pakistan being on an everlasting slump in their performances. IPL and T20 cricket is more entertainment and less cricket. However let me remind you Ponting has won the IPL once as a captain and a coach and trust me he was the brain behind the triumph both the time as Rohit Sharma himself believed that.
Ponting pretty much won everything with his team of invincibles. Had t20 been around in his era, I have no doubt whatsoever that Australia would have had pocketed a few T20 World Cups too. Dhoni isn't nearly as good as Punter, let alone better. Dhoni lost 4-0 to both Australia and England. Ponting's Australia never got whitewashed under him in his career. 165 ODi wins and 48 Test wins as test captain and heckloads of batting records to his name leading from the front puts Ricky Ponting head and shoulders above Dhoni. Ricky Thomas Ponting is and will be in a league of his own. Unmatchable.
There are two types of captains in cricket -
      1. Ricky Ponting
      2. Rest.
