I've always felt like he should have won 5, particularly 2004, he overall impact was so significant. 12.4 rebs, 3.0 blks, 1.8 stls. Top 10 in 3 def stats. Not to mention his court presence. Ben Wallace SHOULD have won DPOY from 2002, 03, (04), 05, and 06. Five straight DPOY. But I remember back in 2004 the sheer amount of lobbying Rick Carlisle keep mouthing about Ron Artest this, Artest that, blah blah. Not taking anything away from Artest (MWP now), but that was Ben Wallace's year as well.
Unreal accomplishment. It is heartening knowing people ,such as yourself, recognize the context behind his achievements. The man was literally the size of Lebron James, perhaps smaller, yet he guarded true centers to a stalemate. Often, his defense was so suffocating that he had better offensive output. People don't realize how utterly unbelievable it was that this man single-handedly guarded Shaq, needing minimal help or doubleteams. Sometimes he we receive weak side help, or have a perimeter defender inch toward the strong side. When a player like Shaq puts his back to the basket, having another defender inch toward Shaq at the strong side would force him Baseline on a turnaround or see him dish the ball back out to the top.

I’ve been a Bulls fan for a long time, and Ben's time with the team was one of the most unforgettable eras for me. Night in and night out, he was always hustling and grinding.
From being undrafted to hall of famer. The path he took was not easy, if not, the hardest one! BIG BIG BIG respect to this man. We salute you Big Ben! Best all time defensive player in my opinion.
As a Lakers fan, I remember bitterly watching the finals series vs the Pistons & Ben Wallace and shuddering whenever he was on the floor. Give the man his flowers, he deserves all the recognition and praise.
Ben will always be one of my favorite players to watch. Every movement he made, you could tell he was 200% effort in, and that is just so fun watch. Like they said, he was never gonna make a game winning shot, but his defense was so good, that no one on his team had to worry about game winners
my thoughts exactly like wtf, it happened before, how can it remind you of something that happened later although Lebron is the guy that is notorious for making players look behind them in open lanes during his prime, but this happened years before

Plus freak genetics lol. He was only undersized in height, but was one of the strongest and most agile Centers in NBA history. But yes, it's always good to inspire young kids to be hard-working, to persevere during adversity and to be humble.
Big Ben was such a unique player. Despite his low height for a center, he is physically strong and a hard working player and the 4 DPOYs he won speaks itself and a worthy member of the Hall of Fame. It's a shame he went undrafted but I think teams would look at him more seriously if he entered the NBA today.
I know it's a Big Ben video but 22:10 made me realize just how insane Duncan at #1 really is, played in the era of Prime Shaq/Howard/KG/Dirk etc arguably the most stacked Big Men era.. while having to carry the offensive load at times.. plus he did played till pretty late in his career and STILL be #1 in DRTG mean miles ahead the 2nd-5th..
Duncan and Russell will forever remain as the most underrated GOAT players people do give them praise, put them in their top 10-15 lists, but they just arent looked the same as other ones. and rightfully so, as they werent the same as other ones on that list, they were more rare types of players, but unfortunately defense will always remain as less flashy, more overlooked half of the game
@@nbassasin8092 The crazy thing is that Duncan never won a DPOY in his career and it wasn't really undeserved either. Maybe except the one Camby won. But when you have monsters like Dikembe, Dwight Howard, Big Ben winning multiple DPOY awards, it's hard to win one in that era. Duncan was more consistent with his defense, but you can argue that those players were more dominant and impactful on the defensive end in their peak seasons than Duncan.
@@nostalgicbliss5547 I 100% agree with everything you said and I think the last part is key, and also, that last part is even more true when you look at MVP awards, thats why Ive never given too much attention to how many MVPs payer has, but how mny MVP level seasons player theoretically has and back on the DPOY, I never liked Lakers, and although I respect AD, Im not a fan of him, but the man has been a beast on defense for the past 3-4 seasons, and yet he is never even in debate for DPOY
As a white kid from suburban Chicago, there is only one NBA star I ever dressed up as for Halloween! Big Ben baby!! 3rd grade, rocking the blue uniform, an afro, head bands, arm bands. Best Halloween ever!! Big Ben is a legend!
Vince Carter posterized Ben Wallace once. To be fair, Vince has put many centers & shot blockers on posters: Mutombo, Duncan, Mourning, Rik Smits, to name a few.
Lakers fan all my life but i always loved watching Ben Wallace play. There was no such thing as points in paint for the other team when Ben was on the floor. Chauncey Billups said it best. Ben could dominate a game without making one basket! Also enjoyed watching Sir Charles play because of what he do on the court given his size.
A perfect example of a person who gave the sport all he got and even more and ended up rewarded for his efforts big time. A champion and a 4x DPOY. A HoF nomination well deserved! These soft current era kids would have thing or two, even three, to learn from Big Ben!
Loved Ben Wallace. Next to Hakeem and prime Mutumbo, the greatest defensive player in NBA history. Also no one ever crossed him on the court. Dude just looked like he took no shit. Had that quiet toughness. It's why Ron Artest even backed down from him during the Malice in the Palace. Big Ben was no joke.
Ben Wallace was the first time I watched basketball and understood how important defense is something that my parents and grandparents before knew watching the Bad Boys but this time I was watching a well respected team and a shot blocker wearing my afro. As a Detroiter the pride I had during that time for my team, city and my hair was godlike and I'm not even a sports fan, I was an Ben Wallace fan. I still think of how he played when I go-to my 9-5 and give it my all because that's the Detroit I grew up in, he let me know that I'm not alone when working hard if only to prove it to myself first that I can if I believe
To be fair, Ben did not stop shaq but he made shaq work like hell for every point he got. I can bet shaq would not want to go against him again cause no one else could pressure shaq that way at that time
WHAT.Shaq wouldn't go against him again ??? LOL. Shaq gave Ben 35/38 pts a game in that finals series, plus, they had Resheed Wallace cheating back in the lane to double Shaq.Pressure Shaq ??? WHEN ?? Shaq was getting doubled by the Piston's guards also.
The main advantage Detroit had was that Ben could cover Shaq 1 v 1 without needing help, which means he could play Shaq straight up without being murdered lol. Shaq was obviously going to get his, he was still in his prime and over a 100 pounds heavier than Big Ben, but it wasn't a complete massacre. He didn't average 40 points while grabbing 20 rebs on him and shooting 70 percent which is what Shaq would have done to majority of the Centers at that time if they defended him without help, especially if they were undersized and not named Rodman or Ben Wallace. Another important point was that Wallace out rebounded Shaq in that series, which means not a lot of second chance points for the Lakers off offensive rebounds.
Definitely one of the 5 best defensive players to ever play in the NBA. Strong as a bull, physically and mentally tough, tenacious, smart, agile with an incredible engine. Made watching defense fun! Him, Pippen, Garnett and Hakeem are the only players that made defense so fun to watch with how versatile and tenacious they were, not seen that kind of motor since. Shout out to Bill Russell too who was the best defender ever when it comes to impact, a true pioneer.
Ben wallace Is one of my favorite players & defensive players of all time he is the main reason why I love block shots & playing defense. You guys should see me play videos games of playing the pistons I get over ten blocks a game playing as Ben wallace oh yeah the good old days.🤩
A few years ago, I coached a junior team to a district championship, the schools first ever! Had a great set of kids I hade mentored and coached who really had unique tallents from one- another. My "guy" was a big kid who reminded me of myself in his age and I could coach him to adapt similar gameplay = He became a wrecking machine both in offense and defense. I showed inspiration to them from HOF NBA legends to give them a better understanding of what I was teaching them. Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, Shaq, Bird, Kobe etc. My "guy" became a retro-fan of Shaq and became obsessed about watching videos of how he played, and then we practised things and I taught him what worked/not worked. So..... One day after school hoyers was over he asked me; " Shaq was like a tank who moved over evreyone, no one could stop him when he attacked, right huh?" I responded; Sure he was a beast when he was great, but remember, he became lazy in his later years. But at the end of his prime, there was this one player I bet you have not heard or seen before - "Big" Ben Wallace! "No, was he that good to stop Shaq when he was at best?" - "YES he was", and I explained while Ben was not bigger then Shaq, he was strong enough and GREAT at defense and while he was not a great scorer, his job was rebounds and defense and the scoring was up to his teammates. That made his team near SWEEP Shaq & Kobe's Lakers to win the championship followed by again making the finals the year after. I taught him and my team that fancy scoring is overrated, that in the end of the day, sucsess is bult on understanding the game, understanding the basics of gameplay and ball handeling and understanding how to work as a team to play offense- and defense. I was very strict with defense training as I saw like in modern NBA to much poor defense when they free-played. I taught them to understand the value in how to "shutt-down" your opponents, especally if the opponents team relly on 1-2 guys to make the game. There was one school-rival team that was talked about and while I had not seen the kid, mu team was talking a lot about how tall he was and how good he was + some decent player as well. They where somewhat nervous for facing them. After some practices I just told them "Remmeber what I have taught you about defense, shut-down and fast-turnovers? THAT is how you can beat them. We have here two guys (my "guy" and my Rodman clone), and as well as you two play on both offense and defense now, combined with our fine shooter/playmaker, that is a great concept for making it very hard for them to score on us. And as said happend. They did as they had been trained and won again the 2nd staright district title, and they where so cocky about how good they where X-D. Sadly, I could not coach them more (byrocratic BS at the school) and the team lost both guys mentioned (families moved away :-( ), but I really hope they will continue to learn and grow as players and human beings! Nice kids.
Ben Wallace is my all-time favorite player. His tenacity in the court was second to none. You wouldn't think a player of his stature in his position could bully prime Shaq, but he did that.
Yeah, and Ben was one of the less common defensive behemots that werent really dirty players, so no one really "feared" him Bostons defense last season was also fun to watch
That 2003-4 Pistons team was the real deal. I'm a lifelong Spurs fan (ever since they came into the league), but I really respected Detroit that year. I liked Rasheed's chip on his shoulder, I liked Ben's energy and toughness, I liked Rip's endless energy and continual motion, I liked Chauncey's clutch shooting and court leadership, and I thought Tayshaun was a physical freak, using his long arms to reach into the passing lanes and swipe passes that his opponents thought were safe. They played like they had been together for 10 years. They were one of the best in league history that year.
I didn't make the High School team. Never played organized ball. I was never good enough, fast enough, tall enough at 5' 8" but I loved the game. I loved basketball. Much like how Ben Wallace was never passed the basketball, I learned that the only way I would get my touches, was to go out and get it. This led me to becoming a very good rebounder for my size. In a game dominated by the big and tall, I modeled my game after Ben Wallace. Because of this man (and Dennis Rodman,) trailblazing a way to play and dominate a game without scoring, I was able to find a role, and joy in the game of basketball. I would walk into the 24-hour Fitness Gym in California, with my Ben Wallace shirt (his picture, complete with Afro emblazoned on the front) and people would start calling me Ben Wallace. Being old, and retired; I still have many fond memories of the sport. I am grateful to this man for being the role model of a style of gameplay that allowed me to enjoy the game of basketball.
BEST BIG BEN VIDEO I'VE EVER SEEN! The 04 Pistons set every defensive record in the shot-clock era. I've had season tickets since '88 and I never had more fun than in 04. Every game is a party when you KNOW no one can score on you and a title is guaranteed. We saw Lakers as clear underdogs and results show were were right If you look up Piston game results from 04 and look at opponents scoring by game - you'll see why!! 😂😂😂 💪🏆
"Fear the Fro" was a thing. Ben Wallace despite his low scoring made 5 All NBA teams & finished top 10 in MVP voting 3 times. 4x DPOY ( back to back twice) 😎🔥.
Ben is right up there on my list for All Time power forwards and centers. Second behind Shaq. The guy is prime example of "the height does not matter".
Buying his authentic jersey on one of my annual pre-memorial day trips to the NBA store in Manhattan was one of the best clothing choices ever lol... And I'm FROM NY and a die hard Knicks fan, but the props and "respect" I got from the fans who KNEW basketball, well shiiiiiiiiiit... you'd think I was wearing my Anthony Mason jersey ($40 bucks, full mesh, Champion licensed replica; no access or dough, to authentics back in 93, & Def no Mitchell & Ness when I got my precious Mason jersey; which still fits AND I wore today lol)
0:03 he's 6'8" 3:39 6'10" Freshman Center 4:41 Ben was listed 6'9" 4:43 but was closer to 6'7" well I guess his high is the biggest NBA mystery While Ben himself says he's 6'9" AI stick to 6'8"

Big Ben Wallace and Mount Mutombo, the only two HOF caliber centers who were one-way defensive players.

You wouldn't think a player of his stature in his position could bully prime Shaq, but he did that.
He was a Dawg! It was a joy to watch him play because he brought it.
Growing Up As A Kid In The Early 2000s Ben Wallace WAS THAT GUY! You Couldn’t Help But To Root For Bro 💯
Love your video and keep up the great work you are awesome
It was a very beautiful story and an inspirational one❤❤
calling him "the most feared" player is a bit of a strech. but he was damn fun to watch. Big Ben and Spurs' Kawhi made defense fun to watch
Yeah, and Ben was one of the less common defensive behemots that werent really dirty players, so no one really "feared" him
Bostons defense last season was also fun to watch
Watching Ben playing for the pistons was awesome. I wish they paid him to stay. Team wasn't the same when he left.
He is one of the most incredible nba players ever
Thanks for letting me know about Big Ben the guy fought through adversities with limitations to his game to be one of the very best❤❤
I'm also a center and i'm only 6'0 and this man is my inspiration. He use his brut strenght to bully shaq.
He did lift ALOT and also had a good vertical dont forget that 😂
Ben’s playing career with Detroit was fun basketball to watch. He was a force to deal with. Always with a serious attitude for his game.
I remember that championship run vividly, arguably one of the best finals in the history of the league
One of the most humble classy NBA players to ever play
That 2003-4 Pistons team was the real deal. I'm a lifelong Spurs fan (ever since they came into the league), but I really respected Detroit that year. I liked Rasheed's chip on his shoulder, I liked Ben's energy and toughness, I liked Rip's endless energy and continual motion, I liked Chauncey's clutch shooting and court leadership, and I thought Tayshaun was a physical freak, using his long arms to reach into the passing lanes and swipe passes that his opponents thought were safe. They played like they had been together for 10 years. They were one of the best in league history that year.
An undrafted HOF and champion... that's why the 1996 draft class is the best batch ever.
bro was a beast! Sheed is still one of my favs of all time too.
Big Ben Face🗿
Big Ben Defense🗿
Big Ven Personality🗿
i love this type of video.
Big Ben and Rasheed, (both last named Wallace), convinced me to grow out MY airfro out.
I wore that airfro until 2014.
Editing him into a plantation like background as if he was raised in the 30’s is nasty work 😭
man, imagine being so tough and strong thay your team does not need to double team shaq .. that alone speaks for itself
Remove that AI shit man. Ruins the quality. I’d rather see more game clips
thank you for this video...
Charles Oakley and Wes Unseld in Ben Wallace life makes sense why he was so tenacious.
Dennis Rodman and big Ben were the only 2 guys I seen that could fuck with Shaq lol
I once met him, he's a very down to earth dude despite his accomplishments
22:15 "And he failed to shoot 50% from the free throw line in every season of his career."
*proceeds to show clip of him airballing😂
💪🏆
"Fear the Fro" was a thing. Ben Wallace despite his low scoring made 5 All NBA teams & finished top 10 in MVP voting 3 times. 4x DPOY ( back to back twice) 😎🔥.
ngl his speech ending at the HOF is cold
🥶
Do “How good was Patrick Ewing/Reggie Miller” next please
Thanks for this
Ben is right up there on my list for All Time power forwards and centers. Second behind Shaq. The guy is prime example of "the height does not matter".
he is my idol in piston he is tough and man of steel in NBA💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 great ben wallace👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼
5:11. Again Thank you Rick Pitino.... YOU HACK
nonstop will probably rename this "how good was ben wallace actually" like they renamed the allen iverson video
Real
Buying his authentic jersey on one of my annual pre-memorial day trips to the NBA store in Manhattan was one of the best clothing choices ever lol...
And I'm FROM NY and a die hard Knicks fan, but the props and "respect" I got from the fans who KNEW basketball, well shiiiiiiiiiit... you'd think I was wearing my Anthony Mason jersey ($40 bucks, full mesh, Champion licensed replica; no access or dough, to authentics back in 93, & Def no Mitchell & Ness when I got my precious Mason jersey; which still fits AND I wore today lol)
imagine having ben on pf and rodman as sm fwd. that would be a badass combo
Your videos are good without AI, no need for that
Tayshaun is the original chase down block king
Yo, random side note, did both Ben and Chucky Atkins glow tf up in Detroit?! So legendary!
My favorite NBA player of all time. If Goku was a basketball player his name would be Ben Wallace.
0:03 he's 6'8"
3:39 6'10" Freshman Center
4:41 Ben was listed 6'9"
4:43 but was closer to 6'7"
well I guess his high is the biggest NBA mystery
While Ben himself says he's 6'9" AI stick to 6'8"
I still have my BigBen jersey. Because when i played before i moved to SG to C because of my vertical jump😂
