    I watched another video of this fire and the guy thought it started on the roof since his video started from showing the fire on the roof. But after seeing this video, I see that it started on the top floor. Excellent video.

    That building has been unoccupied for over fifteen years it was intentionally set so that so that it could be demolished so that it could be torn down so they can build another luxury at building in our hood.

      That literally makes no sense what-so-ever...
      If someone wants to tear it down they can just tear it down, no need to start a fire to tear it down.
      Not to mention the fact that it was reported it was started by vagrants squatting inside.

    Over 15 minutes before first water from tower. I get that you don’t go direct on this kind of a fire, but that doesn’t stop you from setting up a couple of master streams and knocking it down from the outside.

    • @virgilhilts3924

    Reading the comments goes to show how people don't understand the decisions that are made while fighting a fire. Vacant building means there is no reason to risk personnel for interior fire attack, hence why they went defensive and did exterior fire attack.

      @David-bv3cf 4 месяца назад +4

      You're nuts.
      It was a vacant building. There was no sense risking lives to go inside a vacant burning building. So they had to wait for the tower ladders to be set up. They did go inside after it was knocked down to look for hot spots. But the risk was too great for no reward to send people into this building initially. And it takes time to get the tower ladders ready to fight the fire.

    Convenient fire for a lot that is being sold--while the fire could be accidental set by vagrants or kids, more than likely it is akin to the classic "insurance fire". Fires like this were typical back in the 1970s and 1980s in NYC as a way to clear away slum/tenement housing for future development and many times the demolition costs would be offset by insurance proceeds and the like.

      @jlover911 yes, what it does. Time of day . Showers. Cooking. Bath tubs clothes washer all running reduces water pressures..know fact.. between 0500 to 0700 pressures on average drops 25%.. noon to 15:00
      15 %... evening is highest
      . In NYC.. all those restaurants. With dishwashers also draws huge amount of water.. why big city's has auxiliary pumps..listen to 2nd due chief, pressures were low . Pedometer reads about
      Of pressures.. water mains also dictate pressures. 4 inch vs 6 inch ve 8 vs 12 vs 30
      How far are auxiliary pumps from Fire scene. Example
      Normal 6 inch water mains in the city are at 120psi.
      With 1.5..2.0.. 2.5 size fire hose at ground level is 100 lbs normally.. every story water pressures drops dramatically as you climb.
      Normal is 13 to 25 pounds lost at tip per 15 ft up

    • @megagames3605
      @megagames3605 4 месяца назад +9

      You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. At the start of the incident, they were able to use an interior attack to search for anyone potentially inside and to try to be offensive on the fire. The fire beat them to it and they had to transition to defensive which takes some time to execute and set up. The firefighters you see outside are only a small fraction of those on scene. At the beginning there were several inside fighting the fire and completing searches. Not every single firefighter is always going to be doing something at a scene where a large department like the FDNY is operating. Some are extra units awaiting an assignment or waiting to releive another company, others are standing by in case a firefighter goes down, etc. This is all managed by the chief in command. There is so much going on that you can't see. When the fire was spreading on the roof, they were switching to an exterior attack which again, takes time. They had plenty of people working on that, the extra members that are seen standing are extra units awaiting an assignment or standing FAST. Plus, the building is vacant so there isn't exactly a 'rush' to save peoples' property. This was a controlled initial offensive interior attack which then had to be transitioned to a controlled devensive exterior attack after conditions changed. You should know what you're talking about before you make a clueless comment like that.

PLEASE don't tell me all those guys standing around were going to go into that building for "clean-up" The building was unsafe. You can see video's of CA fireman do the same thing with probably 1/2 or less of manpower. Just shows you wat a Union can do to a city.

      @megagames3605 4 месяца назад

      @@trvman1 You have no idea what you're talking about. You have no idea what the organization of units on that scene looked like. There were MULTIPLE companies operating inside the building at the beginning. Not every firefighter is always going to be doing something at every single moment. Many of the units on scene were either awaiting an assignment, preparing to relieve other companies, or standing FAST. Nobody is 'standing around', they are all complying with their ordered assignment. You do not see every single detail of the operation nor do you understand any of it. Fire scenes where large department are operating always look like everyone is standing around because there are a lot of support personell and reserve units. Also, once they switched to an exteriri operation with tower ladders, there obviously is going to be more firefighters outside seemingly standing there because its an exterior operation.
