Absolutely fascinating story! This is what I love about the VeeDub scene - no rigid rules, just do your thing and have fun! Younger generations are involved than the Corvette scene - I have a very rare ‘63 and all anyone wants to know is if the numbers match - no fun at all! And if I drive it fast I get told off for endangering such a rare car…jeesh! The VW people, on the other hand are just so cool and friendly- lots of families involved, too, so my 7 year old can have fun, too. I daily drive my ‘71 Ghia and it not only puts a smile on my face, but other people’s too - no resentment, or the talk of $$ you get with the expensive stuff- just fun conversations. You guys get it - great video!
Hi Eddy, thank you for another report which touches the human heart of the VW scene - what in fact is all what is about. And, of course, another Volkswagen gem 👍👍
I agree with Brien about that color of blue. It is the most beautiful shade of blue, I think, Volkswagen used for their early cars !! In fact I was hooked on a VW blue 68 or 69 with white interior, hardtop, sitting at a curb. It matched the clothing trend of bright navy with white top stitching for the season. I thought it was gorgeous. That was the moment I KNEW I wanted a bug. I was 11 years old. I am glad things worked out for Brien.
Yeah, my best friend had a 67 bug that was VW blue and ever since I was a teen, I have always had a personal interest and connection with it as well. Thanks for your comments!
Thank you for sharing Eddie I've seen this car quite a few times at shows it's a lot better in person . I'm getting closer to my 67 restoration being done hopefully it will be on the road before the end of summer or slightly after .love you're video's Dude..
Hey, that’s awesome that you’re getting further ahead with your car. Little by little right? Anyway, thank you for the kind words. So glad that you like the videos.
Great video. I never got the name of his shop. I have a 56 oval with the exact same motor built by Brothers as well. Those guys are the kings IMO when it comes to building g VW motors. Have said that it has sat for about 6 years and I am trying to get it running again. I would love to bring it to his shop for him to look at it. Thanks
For me the best VW set up to travel and everyday life driving is the 1776 set up no a race car but with the proper carb set up is a beast to depends on no trouble crap .I love VW old school style nothing fancy.but above I love Honda CRX ds engine not b engine or k engines I love combo the d engine with carb and cam nothing fancy but reliable gd on gas and cheap to maintenance and fast enough to kp a fight with others in the streets with high technology crap like EMC VTEC turbo jjj.Like I said before for me the best deal in the bug is the 1776 set up fast enough to have fun real reliable engine easy to maintenance and jack up with small things to a bit more HP and torque simple engine and reliability is beautiful gd video
Great video! This is my idea of a beetle! I would love to swap my Porsche for one and build an awesome engine like this one for it!. I love it, would love to see his bus on here soon…Did you get the pictures I sent you? Just checking as they could’ve gone in your junk lol 😂
I went with my brothers to the dealer to get valve cover gaskets and the parts guy had to show them a new 67 how it ran so he used the demo car and took them for a ride .
San Martin was a different place back then.....Today all your neighbors would be looking over your fence and calling the city to get you to get rid of your cars.
Cruising around Orange County in an amazing Cal-look would make me feel better too, Brien! 👍
That is a super clean build, I love it!! And you spell your name the right way Brien!

Really?! You got the SC?!
What a cool car love the American influence in the customisation of the Beetle and love the Cal look
I like how the tack mounts on the center vent so you don't need to drill anything.
Yeah man! It’s pretty rad looking.

That’s one thing I do wish. That I could have been a little older so I could have had the experience of going to a dealer.
