- elected official representing approx. 162,000 people. page has multiple contributors and needs expansion. -User:Socalres Talk 23:36, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- "multiple contributors"?? ?? Your creation of the article, another editor doing a MINOR reformat, and my adding the AFD tags are the only edits shown in the page history at this point in time. "Multiple" contributors is quite a stretch of reality. WuhWuzDat 01:45, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- apologies, that comment regarding multiple contributors was meant for the marti emerald article. the rest still holds though about the relevancy and impact of a current elected official representing 162,000 in the 8th largest city in the United States. see Los Angeles City Council for similar exampleSocalres (talk) 01:55, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep I have expanded the article somewhat (it was a stub) and added references, and I will do more when I have more time. It's true that City Council members are not automatically considered notable, but I think you will find that he has had sufficient press coverage to meet WP:POLITICIAN, which grants notability to "major local political figures who have received significant press coverage.[7] Generally speaking, mayors of cities of at least regional importance are likely to meet this criterion, as are members of the main citywide government or council of a major metropolitan city." --MelanieN (talk) 15:50, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep I do believe that the article meets WP:POLITICIAN. JJ98 (Talk) 08:11, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion so a clearer consensus may be reached.

- Keep Tony Young is now the president of the city council of San Diego, and is accordingly the second most senior elected official for that city. As MelanieN correctly points out, our notability standard for politicians says that members of the main citywide government or council of a major metropolitan city are possibly notable. So, is San Diego a "major metropolitian city"? With a population of 1,359,132 people and as the eighth largest city in the United States, and the second largest city in California, it certainly is a major city. A Google News Archive search, adding "San Diego" to the search terms, yields a wealth of reliable sources about Tony Young. Cullen328 (talk) 01:25, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment The number of previous contributors to an article is irrelevant to a deletion debate, in my opinion. Cullen328 (talk) 01:30, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep - Meets part 2 of WP:POLITICIAN, and if one were to do a google search on Tony Young, one would find sufficient articles about him that would allow him to meet WP:GNG. That is not to say that the article doesn't need improvement and expansion. --RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 15:55, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
