The idea of hardship vs constraint is so good. I've been deployed to the Middle East a couple times, which you would think would suck. You can’t go off base, there’s only one or two places to eat, there’s nothing to look at, and you basically do the same thing every day. From the outside looking in, you would expect people to hate it. But the crazy thing is, almost no one does. In fact, most people say they don’t mind it, or even enjoy it. They say things like ‘embrace the suck.’ Being in the suck brings everyone together. Because there is less to do, less choices to make, less to worry about, people are happy. You don’t have to worry about what to eat for your next meal, the Dining Facility decides for you. You don’t have to worry about what to do after work, because there are very few things to do. So you go back to your room, go to the gym, or go to the MWR and watch movies or play pool with your buddies. People talk more, they play games, they find things to do with each other. They bond over being away from their families, and over being stuck in the sandbox. The suck brings people together, and I think the constraint and lack of choice is what does it.
It feels like Trevor is giving Simon a grand master class, but here's the twist-Simon is already at the master level himself, and Trevor is one level above in a specific area. That dynamic is what makes the podcast show so incredible. It’s like watching two experts sparring, not in competition, but in a mutual exchange of knowledge that pushes the boundaries of understanding. Simon, with his mastery, is already an authority, yet Trevor brings in a fresh perspective or deeper insights from a level of expertise that Simon doesn’t quite occupy. This unique setup creates an environment where both are constantly learning from each other. Simon, already skilled, gains new tools and ideas from Trevor’s deeper dive into certain areas. Meanwhile, Trevor’s ability to explain complex concepts in an accessible way elevates the discussion. As a listener, you're witnessing two top-tier minds bounce off each other in real-time, offering an extraordinary blend of wisdom and insight that you simply can’t get anywhere else. The show isn’t just informative; it’s a showcase of intellectual synergy that’s rare to come by-making it an absolute treasure for anyone wanting to level up their understanding or skills.
Thank you, Mr. Sinek and Mr. Noah. In a single hour, you taught volumes of wisdom in way that I could hear, comprehend and digest. Now my brain is on fire.
One of the best conversations I've had the joy of watching. When two curious minds come together and explain their thoughts with clear examples, on important topics, everyone has the opportunity to reflect. Thank you Simon and Trevor
I love it! There is a joy in feeling discomfort when we think : Thinking is hard, judging is easy - Carl Jung. Trevor is a brilliant critical thinker who knows how to communicate so people can receive what he is saying.
I have taught in 5 different South African schools over the last 2 decades and the classes of the last decade host Nelson Mandela's dream of unity through diversity and education changing the country, it's a slow process, but it is happening in places, and I hope that spreads
Wow, you too wonderful men… Thank you so much for this awesome conversation. I didn’t want it to end either. The world needs more of this ♥️🙏♥️ Much love from Denmark
I had a Trevor show on my bucket list and boy what a treat it was! We ended up going to Iceland for it which meant a very small venue, almost like a club setting. So intimate and real. The conversation with the audience was just priceless. He pours so much energy to his shows and is present like nobody else. An absolute treasure for humankind! If these two ever hold a public event together, l have to get a ticket!
Having too much choice can be overwhelming. I love this application of decision-making. I enjoy listening to Simon and Trevor; they inspire me with renewed ideas. Complement of the season guys.
You guys together are absolutely AWESOME! I love, love, love watching you interact with each other. I learn so much from your conversations! Neither guy has to be right or IS right. You fully are able to disagree with each other, and you don’t stay there. You think and sometimes struggle with where the disagreement is, honing it from all directions, until you BOTH see the brilliance of where you’ve gotten to. Boom …..agreement. It is magical listening to you. It isn’t often that I see this kind of transparency rooted in such deep authenticity anywhere, actually, rooted in a friendship so valued. Thank you for giving all of us this gorgeous experience. It changes me because I am able to take in the sessions with a wide open heart because an open heart is so clearly part of your intention. You are expressing and modeling the new energy that is flowing onto our planet presently. Such a joy to SEE it on a public screen and to see it coming from two truly beautiful masculine beings. “When you make it GOOD, people will find it”. What you are doing together on podcasts is really, really GOOD. I’ll be watching for you. 🩷♥️💜🙏💚🩵💙
You bring out an interesting, I believe, valid point. This is a format that I am able to LEARN from. SO much learning. How to discuss - not fighting, blaming and accusing, being condescending- DISCUSSING - a situation and concept with 2 people from different cultures & economical backgrounds, which creates valid views from other angles - a situation until they can boil it down to a digestible source of the disease. “ Yes, it was murder (the symptom of disease) but we all understand it (the source of disease). Also, I learned a practical, time & sanity-saving action for those overwhelming, often paralyzing decisions: Compare 2. Break the long, researched list of earbud prices and features into 2 at time, and choose the one. Bc on my budget, there is no room for mistakes. What I choose will have to last me for as many years as possible. But shoes, Simon? And they are on clearance? Well … necessity,…you understand .. a girl .. may need all 3! 😜😁
This was indeed great!! Love listening to true mutually respected conversation with no competition, just two people verbally working through a conversation trying to understand different topics... love it!!
I only ever knew Trevor from his US TV show but after watching a couple of his chats with Simon, I now know that he is really an incredibly articulate and thoughtful person.. The way he frames the "constraint" perspective is really powerful, as is his story about his mother's gift of consideration.. As many others have pointed out, Trevor has now become one of those "must watch" for me. Thanks to both of you for sharing this conversation with us
Some of my favorite Trevor clips are from his Between the Scenes segments from the Daily Show. He would just talk to the audience during commercial breaks, and I'm so happy someone decided to film and release it. He's incredibly insightful and well-spoken
Brilliant - yes, I love Trevor's comedy...yet it's always SMART COMEDY! This has given me a well needed boost after the past month of .... close to despair!
I think your conversation went full circle. People’s inability to consider other's perspectives creates competition among opposing groups. And both groups think they are right causing a sense of entitlement and control. This entitlement makes them feel like it is okay to hurt the opposing side. Even when hurting the opposing side only makes things worse people feel justified in it. When you consider others both sides benefit which is why helping others helps you, too. And hurting others hurts you, too. When you drop your entitlement and realize we are all more similar than different you can connect as human beings, not as a democrat or a republican.
I love it when great minds sit and have a random conversation and suddenly some surprising ideas or opions just popup like this talk between Simon and Trevor! ❤
My wife and I fell in love over both small and deep talk, and both are just as meaningful to us. we love deep conversation, but we also laugh all the time, and that usually happens over small talk about whatever is happening, from driving for coffee to cleaning up after dinner. maybe it depends on how you define small talk. if you define it as simple talk, then most talk is small talk when you are doing something while talking. and that's where most of life happens. also we both work remotely, so we spend a lot of time together every day and we weave between small and deep talk constantly.
I've long admired Trevor Noah and yet he continues to surprise (and inspire) me with how beautiful of a human being he is. Such insight, self-awareness, and humility.
This discussion is such a great example of iron sharpens iron. I found myself literally smiling at the screen watching them end a discussion that they both enjoyed so much.
I really like this conversation. And that you both seem from here at least to be genuine. Which is novel for public figures. You’re both people who I don’t always agree with but feel able to listen to and understand almost all of the time. Thank you 🙏🏼
This is truly marvelous, buoyant, deep 😂, philosophical, retrospective and current. Thank you for your sharp observations and get together again soon!! 🙏🏻
I love these two guys. They're both so inspiring in their insightful views on the world. We should clone them so more people like them are around us. ❤
Simon, thank you for posting the video version of this gem of a podcast episode! I love seeing you and your guests on video, please continue posting these! 🫶🏽
Simon brings out the best in Trevor .. What an insightful conversation on how society is today - so fed up that they can accep wrongdoings easily also so true that people are spoilt by too many choices - one person for this another for that - n feel it’s okay to be like that
Thank you, thank you, thank you! We need our world leaders to think like both of you...what a joy and how insightful to watch both of you...what a beautiful example of compromise and understanding.
Trevor's right about small talk. It is necessary for us to find common ground in order for us to share a bond that allows us to attack a problem or a situation or an idea together. That's why you can get a group of incredibly diverse people who have one similar interests and they can form bonds and lifelong relationships across gender and age and class and any other division you can dream of.
Many really, really smart people are on the spectrum and can’t explain how things work. Trevor is really, really smart, but explains intricate ideas and concepts clearly and with a good heart.
I love this two…I could go on listening to this two conversing on any topic under the sun.. more of the same next time Simon and Trevor…such a pleasure to watch😊😊
I can now make some admissions; I didn't see Simon, or Trevor, as an introvert or a chaotic thinker cos I'd only seen them 'working', it's such a good thing to see these two just literally having a chat. Simon says it though 'uncanny self awareness', it's what they actually both have.
My face and reaction to this entire conversation : 51:14 Thank you Simon Sinek and Trevor Noah for this incredible conversation. The world as a whole needs more of this. Small talk, big talk it doesn't matter ..what matters is good, meaningful and authentic talk. ❤

Did they just start with big talk about small talk?? 🤣🤣🤣 I so love these two
Pretty much a small talk conundrum😂
You're smart😂
😂
🤣😅
That’s what I also thought😂
Ok. The world doesn’t need any more podcasts… but… if the two of you made a podcast I would listen.
Sinek visited Noah's "What Now" podcast as well
WE NEED MORE OF THIS COMBO PLEASEE!!
My 2 biggest brain crushes forever! ♡♡

I love these two having conversations

I was also thinking the same thing but you said it really well!
This is such a brilliant summary.
Absolutely brilliant.
Well said.
This is obviously a ChatGPT shit, but i agree.
And I felt they took the time to watch it fully, and summarize it so comprehensively @@Eamazo
Are you sure, it's AI?
Simon- “the problem with talking to you, is I don’t want it to end…”
Same, Simon. I’m sure we all want your conversations with Trevor to keep going. 💯
This bromance… I’m here for it and I want more!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Delightful… love Trevor in ANY way or form!! Good talk….
Thank you, Mr. Sinek and Mr. Noah. In a single hour, you taught volumes of wisdom in way that I could hear, comprehend and digest. Now my brain is on fire.
I could listen to these two talk forever...as a matter of fact, Simon please go on Trevor's podcast What Now and continue this amazing conversation..
He did and the video comes out today.

When I see them talking I realise, these two were meant to meet in this lifetime.
If they make a podcast together we would witness greatness.

This conversation had an interesting rhythm. And towards the end it really starts getting deep and rich. Very nice.
And I loved that Trevor ended on such a sensible point. He’s a gem.

Thank you Simon Sinek and Trevor Noah for this incredible conversation. The world as a whole needs more of this. Small talk, big talk it doesn't matter ..what matters is good, meaningful and authentic talk.

Trevor’s sharp intellect, wit, and ability to articulate complex ideas with clarity and relatability are unmatched. His perspective on life, culture, and human behavior is both insightful and thought provoking!
"the world is not what you think but what you being told" Trevor
this is the first video I've seen where the listener is as engaging as the speaker.
Great people, great format.
Such a great conversation. Please do more.
What a wonderful conversation! I love watching you and Trevor converse.
I’ve always found it super interesting how people assume who you are, and make comments about who you are, when infact you’re the absolute opposite. It’s natural to start formulating those opinions, it keeps us safe in a way, however stay open minded and curious that we are always learning about each other.
These two together is amazing. Two of the best minds that I love listening to
So much of this conversation resonates across the pond in the UK too. Really enjoyed your discussion.
