shame there wasn't a catch today, but a intact launch site is better than one with a crater. and that ship re-entry and landing was incredible! Still a success imo, despite the booster landing in the water.
A barge with a tower and chopsticks and enough electrical power generation would cost more than the booster. It would be cheaper to drop the booster in the water, so that is what they did. Falcon 9 is different, it only needs a flat barge
As far as stress tests go, this was a win. The whole point of this was to alter the parameters to determine real world limitations. The fact that the ship came down perfectly even with the steeper angle and aggressive approach and survived entry with less shielding is incredible. A lot of good data was gained in this launch. The results were within expectations.
@@sharpvidtube There would never be a situation where people would be loaded into a stress test flight. They are determining baselines for failure. They intentionally flew under sub-optimal conditions to see what it could take when things go wrong. Obviously they wont ship people while experimenting with untested variables.
I wonder why they only show the backview camera once its in space instead of showing it through and through. Seeing it liftoff from that pov would be nice to see.
People landed on the moon in the 60s, that impresses me. This hasn't done an orbit yet, carries nothing and seems to be on fire every time it lands. Maybe my bar is too high😂
Here's how to not wreck the tower... land with no legs on a grill so the flames don't damage the engines and have a big ass drone hook onto the top before landing and balance it? Sounds easier imo
We need to build huge infrastructure in orbit manufacturing facilities to build ships and equipment to mine the moon and mars and grab asteroids, too build more ships ,bigger ships to harvest and mine more asteroids and sow on it would be better than fighting wasteful wars !
Who is the customer for all of this industry? What does this customer need and what can he afford? You can't mine an asteroid unless you have a customer for the ore. But if Elon is right about the very low cost to launch, then we will NEVER manufacture in space because it will be cheaper to do it on Earth than launch on a cheap rocket.
This is fantastic technology and human achievment. Humans need not go to Mars! Human technology should be sent to Mars...cheaper safer and adequate for exploration of a hostile planet.
