The thing about Jones is he isn’t a hard fighter when it comes to a puzzle he’s more so a fighter who is great everywhere. What makes that hard to beat compared to other very similar fighters is because of his natural reach and speed as well as his fight iq
Two of the people above me just hate because they wanna hate. Facts don’t care about your feelings. Jones is one of the GOATs in MMA. The only argument against him is PEDs, which everyone uses by the way.

Yupz exactly what loser says. You can't do nothing about that. That's a advantage of champion. You can't win easily by decision without significant strike or didn't much damage to champion. You must make his face really messed up and the whole world know he's fucked up. You need to knocked out the champion if you want to secure the win. Usually Champion take that W if by split decision and almost same with scored.
I love the format of the video. It’s like Jones is your video game character and all these opponents are increasingly difficult bosses you have to beat.
A lot of this was Jon being lazy w his defense. In most of his fights his reach was so much longer than his opponent’s that he could just stiff arm to keep distance. Jon is great but he’s made this mistake so many times it’s unbelievable how he was never beat because of it
Personally think Vitor gave him the single moment where he almost lost with the arm bar. Thiago Santos is the biggest 'what if', given how well he did in the first round and destroyed his own knee in the second. Personally, I thought Jones just edged Reyes 3-2, but I have to blame Reyes, giving up those championship rounds because he "felt" he won the first 3 was suicide, and ultimately did what every fighter is told not to do and thats "do not leave the fight in the judges hands".
I honestly don't think Jones did enough to get a clear win from the Reyes fight, it was super close and competitive. It was a great fight if it weren't for the controversial Decision, and no way did Jones win that by Unanimous Decision, even a Split Decision would be debatable at best. At the same time I feel the same thing with Reyes and the fight should have been called a Draw. I think Reyes was gassed from all the moving around and throwing bombs in the earlier rounds, hence why he wasn't so effective with his striking in the Championship rounds. Jones' constant pressure paid off for him, but I do agree to an extent that Reyes thought he had it in the bag in the earlier rounds and got high off his own success. This same mindset hurt him in his performance against Jan Blachowicz for the belt.
@@madgavin7568 Yeah I agree with you. I think a lot of people are overlooking the fact that this fight was held in Texas, and Texas uses the old scoring criteria opposed to the New Unified Rules. So, Jones did against score a lot of points in the eyes of the judges for his 'Octagon Control', as you said the constant pressure. Really, I would say Reyes technically would have won under the Unified Rules, but not the old scoring criteria. But yeah, a split decision would have made more sense instead of UD. I dont even think a draw would have been a bad call either.
@@lunatik383 Usually, but then you get cases like Henry Cejudo vs Demetrious Johnson II and Robbie Lawler vs Johnny Hendricks II. Controversial split decisions that go against the Champion.
Jones literally outstruck him in almost all the rounds AND landed the significant blows. Make that same argument, but for Reyes and then you have a point.
Cormier gambled by playing high risk gameplan against Jones. He was trying to be more aggressive but Jones know he had the mental advantage of Cormier. He knows how emotional he can get
The Thiago fight was arguably the most frustrating. Out of nowhere his knees just ripped. Up to that point he was outclassing Jones. Not to make excuses but sometimes Jones gets blessed with some very fortunate situations.
If Jon felt not comfortable at that time, he should grapple Thiago. And we see in which level Thiagos grappling in previous fight. So, broken leg of Thiago is the cause of very close fight, I think
@@jadonmuller1576 exactly. No on has ever seriously messed up Jon. Closest was Gus and Santos. Reyes didn't hurt him at all. Go look at pics of Reyes and Jon after the fight and tell me that you still think Reyes won. True fans know tho. I've been watching UFC since 2005. Most people who hate on Jon are casuals or just don't like his actions outside of the octagon. No denying that he's the best inside the octagon tho
@@ArkansasGamer While I agree that Reyes lost, "looking at someone" after a fight means nothing. Damage isn't scored, strikes are. If you've been "watching UFC since 2005", you should know that. Reyes actually landed more significant strikes than Gus if you want to make that argument. Regardless, people forget Octagon control is a factor in the scoring process and Jon almost ALWAYS has control. People move in for combos but relent and give him control back. I imagine it's cause they want the cage to help with Jon's takedowns, otherwise I have no idea.
The craziest thing to me about the vitor attempt was that jones was so mad after getting out that he made the effort to want to finish vitor with an arm submission
The one common thing those fights had was that he finished strong. And if you see other fights, finishing strong plays very well with the judges. To be honest I’m ok with the decisions. Although most likely wrongly, I believe that to get the belt from someone, especially someone like jones that has been defending for a long time, you should beat him clearly.

He didn't. His fight with Gus, Jon was so badly injured compared to Gus that if the fight went on for another minute, he'd have his eyes sealed shut and lost. The Reyes fight was closer to an acceptable "win," but I think Reyes outperformed him entirely. Reyes blocked most of his power strikes, whereas Jon took Reyes' power strikes with his face. To call the fight for Jon because of some half-assed/exhausted/pansy takedowns in the final round, is favoritism at it's finest. Not to mention those takedowns had no impact on Reyes. He didn't get slammed to the mat, he was slowly pulled down on the wall like an anchor. It didn't damage Reyes at all and it didn't really put Jon in any favorable position to strike either. It was a shit win and you can see it on Jon's face too. It looks like he's shocked he won. Reyes was def shocked he lost. So was I, and many other spectators were as well. @Adam Hayton I don´t care about rounds and points, man. I am not saying they won the fights, all I am saying is that they beat his ass. It´s all about the damage. Whittaker won more rounds than Romero in the second fight but Romero almost killed him in the last rounds.
If Gustafson had been given the win, his reign would have been short lived. I believe if you wanna be the new champ, you’ve gotta completely dominate the long-standing champ and leave no debate as to whether or not you have won.
John became more terrifying the longer the fight went on. He was dangerous every second of his fights, and could end it out of nowhere in the late rounds.
not in the reyes fight. how are u gonna get beat into submission to turn your back and run after getting combod up helplessly and kicked in the face for 4 rounds just to finally get 2 face hits in the 4th round that still werent even close to what the other guy did to you mentally and physically. then in the 5th when reyes is gassed he didnt even have enough to finish him and just lands a few hits but still gets hit and cant defend against a gassed man lol but he raises his hands up in the end
At the beginning of his reign perhaps. He's finished 1 fight since 2013 (and no I'm not counting the DC finish since that was ruled a no contest retroactively). Looking at his record, he's finished 2 fights in the 4th round and 0 fights in the 5th round.
Well Jones never fought DC clean, and ever since he got caught cheating the latest time he's looked very mediocre compared to his pre-USADA turinabol days. I mean, now that he's clean he basically lost to Santos and Reyes, just scraped a 'win' because he's the champ so he gets favorable scoring. I think prime DC vs clean JJ would probably be a win for DC but who knows... I definitely think Gus would've beaten him the first time if he wasn't juicing.
what about when undisputed undefeated chael sonnen nearly snapped his toe off, and graciously allowed the fight to be finished so jon could receive treatment?
I love Jon Jones and I think him and GSP are by far the greatest of all time, but Jones lost that fight against Reyes. The judges seriously fucked that one up.

Looks flashy at 18 minutes throwing all those strikes. But look at Jones defense and head movement.. beautiful really Don't think anyone gives him credit there
Amazing how machida hit him a couple of times and that was the biggest trouble he faced, shows how good he was that a couple of punches was considered a challenge

Jon Jones is a very smart fighter. He keeps distance from his opponents using his long outstretched arms and punch/kick or elbow them at the right time. Another point is: If these fighter take Jones down and use elbows as he likes to do, Jon Jones would get in a huge problem! It's like using his tatics against him or simply don't give peace to Jones during the fight, try to disturb, upset him somehow (Not insulting, just don't give time to think). Gustafsson and Reyes did it pretty well. Also, sometimes, I see Jones running from them inside the cage to "gain some extra time" or points. (He's very smart). Also almost lost against: Daniel Cormier, Glover Teixeira, Thiago Marreta using these fight tatics. Otherwise, I'm sure he would have lost.
he was definitely losing against both. Gus ending up fading hard, and santos' injury was super unfortunate but lost him the fight. He definitely won both though. As for reyes, jon jones lost against reyes 100%.
Your are an absolute casual if you think he lost against Santos, not only did Jones outstrike him (he landed 16 more significant strikes, so by definition he outstruck him), he controlled the center of the octagon the whole fight, he litteraly walked Santos down for 5 rounds. He picked him apart and Santos was gassed and stuck in the mud in the last 2 rounds. Just because he landed a couple of clean strikes in the earlier rounds doesn't mean he won🤦
@@coenh8735 Jones did win that fight, of course, but to say Thiago Santos gassed and was "stuck in the mud" is insincere and completely disingenuous. He tore his MCL, tore his PCL, AND his ACL, and also tore his meniscus! Thats 4 different major injuries all in his left knee. He's lucky his leg was still attached, lol! The injuries happened after his leg moved unusually after he threw a kick. Santos had to fight for more than 4 rounds on one working leg and he still won 48-47 on a scorecard. I have full respect for Santos after that.

He has a great chin and recovers very fast
He backs it up with great striking defence as well. He rolls really well with punches and kicks. Its explains why he's been able to preserve his chin for so long, he rarely gets hit cleanly. A chin can only last so long, and recovery is useless if you can't take a shot any longer. We all know what happened to Chuck Liddell after Rashad KO'd him.
@@madgavin7568 seeing chuck never being the same since that fight broke everybodys heart :(

Jones did more damage to reyes tho, not to mention reyes spent the championship rounds running away
I love the format of the video. It’s like Jones is your video game character and all these opponents are increasingly difficult bosses you have to beat.
More like the other way around. Jones is the ultimate boss. And you keep using various different characters to attempt to finally beat him.
@@mrsain19 Great correction👌
A lot of this was Jon being lazy w his defense. In most of his fights his reach was so much longer than his opponent’s that he could just stiff arm to keep distance. Jon is great but he’s made this mistake so many times it’s unbelievable how he was never beat because of it
Why? Cuz he was so much bigger than all his competition lmao
You mean eye poke?💀
Dhalsim reach definitely helps
Personally think Vitor gave him the single moment where he almost lost with the arm bar. Thiago Santos is the biggest 'what if', given how well he did in the first round and destroyed his own knee in the second. Personally, I thought Jones just edged Reyes 3-2, but I have to blame Reyes, giving up those championship rounds because he "felt" he won the first 3 was suicide, and ultimately did what every fighter is told not to do and thats "do not leave the fight in the judges hands".
Put very well there mate.

It’s his boxing tbh he’s a great kicker and elbows are top tier but his boxing is kinda lacking
@@A1Gz_ If he doesn't work on his boxing its very concerning if he's fighting Stipe Miocic, who has excellent boxing.
For fucks sake, I'll never understand how no one in the UFC properly acknowledged Jones' reckless use of his fingers pointed towards opponents' face and eyes in literally EVERY FIGHT.
