I thought the same! So many RUclipsrs blow insane amounts of money on their videos and sometimes it’s hard not to think about what that money could’ve done. That wasn’t the case with this video! All those kids are going to get a new friend, and if they’re well taken care of they’ll likely be worth even more money as they age 😊

I love how American Girl touches upon serious subjects such as Addy’s harsh life, including slavery, and Emily’s life, including her house getting bombed during the war. It’s very important to teach kids about the difficult times in history while including some fun and positive ones, such as Samantha being a wealthy orphan living with her grandmother and Cécile being born into a wealthy family, wanting to become an actress.

I’m 21 and watching this gave me so much nostalgia. I literally cried at the end! I had Addy and Saige (still have them somewhere at my parents house). I used to love watching RUclips videos featuring the dolls. I even made a few stop-motion”films” of my own lol. My mom built me a dollhouse that was like 5ft tall with a bunch of handmade furniture. I learned how to French braid on my dolls and how to sew clothes and purses for them and my friend’s dolls. I loved playing with my American Girl dolls 💕 thank you reminding me of that time! @alitzahasdaiTheir name is literally “American Girl” for a reason. Since American history is tied to most of the dolls they probably thought it would not make sense for someone thats not American to purchase. I doubt it would be profitable to sell in other countries anyway.

I live in Sweden and buy these beautiful dolls second hand, usually at auctions. The second hand value is between $50-150 each, depending on which doll it is, the condition and how many accessories are included. They sell for the same prices in the UK too. So yes, there is a strong market for these dolls to be sold new in an AG store here, outside the US. I would rather spend that same money on new dolls available here.

Okay I know I'm a couple weeks late to this but I have some fun facts as a former American Girl employee in Seattle! Each doll takes years of planning and designing before they're launched and they put so much love and care into every story including doing extensive research into and collaborating with each culture they portray which I've always loved about the company. Plus a little humble brag: the author of the Maryellen books, Valerie Tripp, was visiting the Seattle store for a signing in, I believe, 2013 and met one of my old managers, Mary Ellen, who made such a positive impression, Valerie had American Girl name the doll after her! She even had them give her red hair like her namesake! Also one last fun fact about Maryellen, because she had polio, if you stand the doll up, you'll notice one of her legs is marginally shorter than the other. They don't miss a single detail.

Words can not express the feels that this video brought back to me. My identical twin sister, who tragically lost her life in 2022, grew up with American Girl dolls in the 90s and 2000s. We were born in 1988. I still have the original 3, Kirsten also being my 1st doll. Samantha was my sisters 1st. along with several others. We also made our own twins ( who at the time both looked a lot like Kit) in the early 2000s when they still had the American Girl Doll store in Chicago. My nonni would take us every year for our birthday. I still have my dress that matches Kirstens original dress. I know they are worth money, but there is no amount that would ever let me sell the,m. They have brought so much joy to my nieces and still to myself. Thank you for posting this, it let me sit back and remember some of the happiest moments I had as a kid with my sissy. xoxo Jax

It's fascinating how these dolls have evolved over the years. I liked the historical dolls when I was younger and I had so many of the books. I had the original Felicity though I had the mini dolls of Kirsten and Josephina. I wanted another but my mother wouldn't get me any new cloths for the doll either so another doll was out of the question so I just enjoyed the one I had.

I remember begging my mom for Kit every time we'd get the American Girl catalogue in the mail. She'd tell me it's too expensive and never bought one (despite the fact she or my dad had spent a great deal of money on expensive gaming systems for my dad). Anyways, it wasn't until April of 2023 that I went to the local American Girl store near where I live with my partner (who convinced me to buy her). We went to the store, I found her in her OG outfit, I grabbed her box and straight up almost cried in line. It was such a healing moment for me and absolutely love her.

Back in 2000, our mom would only buy me and my sister two dolls each after much begging, but we had to read all that doll's books first. I got Kaya and Samantha, and my sis got Felicity and Josefina. Reading all the books was actually very fun and interesting. The amount of research they did was astounding, but also the themes they tackled for young girls to read and understand was eyeopening and an amazing way to teach history that young girls might not otherwise learn. Even after, I read the other historical girl dolls because the stories were just that great. We still have the dolls in good condition since our mom would emphasize taking care of them (they were expensive!).

I played all the American girl games, read the books, watched the movies, and got the catalog every month. This unlocked so much nostalgia for me. I’m a 2003 baby so American Girls were so popular when I was growing up, but they got more expensive as time went on. My sister and I both had Just Like Me dolls, and then combined we had Kaya, Josephina, Felicity, Elizabeth, Molly, Lindsey, and my last one was Addy. My sister always wanted Julie and I wanted Julie’s room decor 😅 funny story is that my sister and I got Molly and Lindsey from an estate sale and they were both pretty well loved. My Molly had a broken eye that got replaced some time before with a completely different color eye. At first I was upset that she didn’t look like the “original,” despite her being the 1986 original version, but now I wish I had cherished her unique history a bit more 😔 also, because the dolls were so expensive and we had so many already, my mom would just buy us the mini versions if we wanted a new one haha. I remember having mostly all of the best friends, like Cecelia and Marie-Grace.

As someone who has the original Molly and received her as a very, very beloved Christmas gift, I was shocked to hear she's the most expensive and rare. Even so, she's priceless to me and I will treasure her always. Thank you for all you do, Hope! You made some kids very happy.

I was obsessed with McKenna when I was little. American Girl Dolls were expensive though, so I ended up getting a generic brand doll who I loved named Abby. I would make little objects for her like little lamps, I would buy things off eBay, and would even make clothes for her. It's beautiful that these dolls are going to children who may need a little love from a friend they can play with!

I used to be OBSESSED with American Girl Dolls in the early 2000s! I had several dolls that I loved dearly. Funny story, my Mom hired a lady to help us clean out our house and put together a yard sale. She convinced me to sell my dolls and conveniently "bought them" herself before we had the sale. Still convinced that a grown woman scammed 10-year-old me out of my collection, lol.

I love this so much. I remember finding the books in my school library around 1987-1988, reading the stories, and falling in love with the original three. I wanted a doll so bad but knew my family could never afford one. I’m so glad I get to live vicariously through you. Seeing your joy and knowing that you are spreading that joy with us and with your local community is incredibly heart warming. Thank you

I used to have the original Felicity and Addy back in the 90s!!! I loved them so much and kept them up until this summer when my apartment basement storage room was flooded with sewage. I cried for weeks, but they were so far beyond repair with mold from the sewage I had to throw them out. But someone took them from the dumpster!!! I hope whoever got Felicity and Addy in this video loves them as much as I did! Thanks for the walk down memory lane, I definitely cried watching this!

So, ever since I was in the second grade, I have been OBSESSED with American girl dolls. But, what really got me intrigued was the books. I was always buying the books whenever I found them and eventually my mom and dad made it a tradition to get me my favorite AG doll of the year, every year for like 4 years, for Christmas. The dolls I have are Tenney, felicity, Josephine, Josie, a boy doll, and willow the Willow the wisher. Some i was able to find at yard sales for cheaper and I would buy them myself, or some were given to me for free by friends. Because of this experience I was able to grow up with, I learned a whole lot about history and other perspectives of life. When I am a mom, I plan to open my daughters to this experience as well 😊
