Honestly, I like the idea that everyone is just waiting to betray the boltons/reclaim the North for the Starks with individual plots way better than the idea of one grand conspiracy. A single grand conspiracy means some dude(s) had a plan and the rest just sorta agreed with that plan. Several seperate conspiracies shows just how respected the Starks are, that all these seperate groups would be longing to reinstate them, even with the risk of being found out.
The problem is, too many cooks can ruin the stew. Especially when it comes to kings. And while Jon is most likley honorable enough to give up any claim for stability and his brother...there still will be tension.
to be honest i wager that if any of these groups of conspirators ever did started making gains wit there plans and messing up the boltons, the other groups would join in with them and assist in the bolton bashing. i mean they all want peace and a stark in the north so no matter who's plan works first the other would likely side with them as well.
would be great if somehow it works out that all the conspiracies come together at the same time and reunite the starks at the same time, but its GOT so no its never that nice and easy...
Though... *Cough*... They are *dead* and the Lannisters not (short at least) Honor, Mercy and Tradition destroyed their Home and family. Yes Ned Stark is still quite popular and loved by us (The North Remembers). He was a honorable and loyal man. But his qualities condemned his own family.
@@Nothing-jo8ci it all depends on your perspective, if there were a Northern Conspiracy, it shows that the values of House Stark have an everlasting strength, that even when the house is nearly destroyed the entire North would rather restore it than usurp it. House Lannister simply would never last any longer than its political power does
@@josh10722 funny ahm? Ned would never sacrifice his children for the family name. But something similar it's happening. If there's a Northern Conspiracy then I see the Stark family rising again, but after the death of Ned's family. That would be something that Tywin was trying to explain. Sacrifice the members of the families for the good The Family. But for the Lannisters their members are still alive (The dwarf the cripple and the mother of madness) but looks like The Family, the Lannister name it's dying. So I see no victory for Ned nor even Tywin actually. Specially for Ned though
@@Nothing-jo8ci That may seem like it at this point in the story, but remember by the end of the show, loyalty and love for House Stark leads to a Snow leading the Free Folk, an independent North, and a Stark sitting on the Iron Throne
I have a different theory, it's not a conspiracy. See while being honorable makes you open to betrayal, it also inspires true loyalty beyond the grave, betraying a honest and honorable man tends to infuriate to the point of suicidal rage to those who held him in such regard. Ned's honor might have been the death of him, but it will be the savior of his house.
NO! that is essentially too straight forward. Iya stark is a great example of this. At evry turn this show displays how honor will essentially be the down fall of anyone. Iya stark is a great warrior and has done so without honor. As a spy and trick of the trade
@@Josh.me223 Avenging your family IS HONOR. IYA has the most honor of them all. HONOR, RESPECT.. .are pretty straight forward. you do not go back on your word and you have no dealing is betrayal. AYI is THE ERFECT EXAMPLE.
@@FelicityGemini all wrong. Sorry. You are right about the honor part. Of course she does. But, when it comes to the war against the white walkers. None of that matters. All of that will be thrown out. Remember in the season 7 finally. Brianne of tarth, "fuck oaths and screw honor". When it comes to the fight against the white walkers. Honor will do nothing. They won't be using honor or respecting oaths. There is no politics or anything in the fight to come. That is what I meant. Soo
Lyanna Mormont I will maintain was the best character in the entire show She represented a small island with hardly any men left after the constant wars, but she was one of the few who did remember. Bella Ramsey is amazing
It would be a fitting ending to Catelyn knowing that Ned was always faithful to her, a nice conclusion of a thorn in her life, and seeing the Freys and Boltons killed by supporting the claims of her nephew-in-law as King in the North. an ending of Catelyn and Jon's relationship, a nice one. an eased mind of her marriage to honorable Ned, and peace of mind because the traitors of her son are defeated. I HOPE this happens, I wanna see a somewhat good ending for Catelyn.
Not to be that guy but this sounds like D&D level of horrible writing. How exactly would Catelyn be able to do that while she's all the way in the Riverlands? Not to mention that Stannis is most likely gonna be the one to defeat the Boltons, Battle of the Bastards is a horrible concept that GRRM definitely didn't come up with. Also I think fans overstate Ned "cheating" on Catelyn. When Ned supposedly conceived Jon; Ned and Catelyn were total strangers and certainly weren't in love. It's Jon being raised with her children that bothered her the most.
Well I think at the end of the day regardless of the true parentage of Jon snow, Ned remained faithful no matter the outcome. Personally while there is no real concrete evidence either confirming or refuting the 2 prominent theories about non being either r+l or n+a , I believe that it’s more likely imo we are gonna get the rug pulled and Jon is going to end up actually being the first born of Ned with ashara. There is a ton of supporting evidence, obviously minor hiccups as well, but it to me just feels the most right. Ashara while a lady in waiting was not in kings landing during the breakout of hostilities but in dragonstone, close to the vale where ned was. I believe Ned and ashara fell in love at the great tourney, and Brandon being engaged to cat and ned not being in line to inherit was free to marry out of love. When Brandon and Ned’s father were killed and lyanna went off with rhaegar, I believe ned retrieved ashara from gall town , then travelled through the vale on th way to winterfell to call his banners, that ashara was the fisherman’s daughter witnessed by witnesses when Ned shipwrecked on the three sisters and that Jon was conceived in these travels to winterfell. Once Ned returned, ashara who couldn’t return to dragonstone or kingslanding because the mad king was holding the princess who she was a lady in waiting for essentially captive then travelled back to starfall, and would months later give birth to Jon. Ned stark not only feeling duty and honor bound but also politically forced requiring Tully support would be forced to hastily marry cat, Robb would then be conceived and ned would then ofc go off to the war and after the sacking of kings landing, despite rhaegar being killed at the trident and lyanna not being present or a hostage of the mad king, given the missing kingsguard not present at either the trident or the capital, Ned would eventually find out in the capital that Arthur dayne and the remaining kingsguard were in dorne at the tower of joy, and upon arriving and having to defeat the remaining kingsguard guarding lyanna, that is when Ned ofc would discover lyanna, with a newborn baby and discover that she was in fact not kidnapped and went willfully. He promised ofc to protect this newborn Targaryen nephew knowing what a danger it would be given roberts fear of being a usurper and the murder of the other innocent targaryens and upon traveling to starfall to return the ancestral sword of the daynes dawn, he would discover ashara had in the time he travelled with her and would go on to get married gave birth to a baby that was Jon snow. I believe with the dominant genes present in Targaryen (though not all ofc) it’s possible that the child of lyanna had a Targaryen look, whereas Jon as the books explain was the spitting image of ned. Rather then ashara killing herself at the grief of having a miscarriage and the death of her brother to the man she loved, I believe she took the child of lyanna and rhaegar who I believe is the young griff and that Ned being now married would take jon, and raise him as a bastard. I believe that septa Lenore who was in the company of the young griff aegon is ashara dayne, and I believe jon is Ned and ashara child. I just believe that even though I do think it ofc could be r+l there is far more circumstantial evidence that it’s Ned and ashara and though the many different rumors or secondhand accounts can’t be taken as wholly accurate, there are too many second hand accounts and circumstantial evidence that adds up for me to write off. Jon being the spitting image of Ned ofc could be wrote off as lyanna genes being dominant, but there are multiple different accounts of Ned and ashara falling in love, Cersei, baristan Selma, a boy literally named Ned dayne who spoke to Arya of his wetnurse wylla(who king Robert asked Ned if that was his bastards mother) also being jon snows wetnurse, and Ned dayne told Arya he heard that Ned and ashara fell in love at the tourney. The physical descriptions of ashara also match the descriptions Tyrion also notes are present in septa Lenore and Tyrion even specifically notices that septa lemore has stretch marks as a well which is a completely odd and random thing for George to have Tyrion just randomly bring up or notice. But again even if I’m correct, Ned was never unfaithful to cat , and sure ned loved another first and she even explicitly suspected it was ashara he loved given the fact the only time he ever was angry was when her name was brought up, but ned and cat would go on to have a happy marriage and have multiple children.
What I hate what the show did was that Roose kept warning Ramsay about his actions and that if he acquired a reputation as a mad dog, he'll be treated as mad dog.. Suggesting the northmen will turn on Ramsay on some point or at least they might be plotting against him. However nothing came of this.. Ramsay instead defeated Stannis and then got the support of Umbers..
I had read that the show originally had planned on having some of the northerners(House Umber) turn on Ramsay Bolton but weren’t able to film it because D&D ordered the Battle of the Bastards to be filmed in chronological order and because of the insane, rushed schedule, they had to skip these scenes. They did have the scene with Jon Snow and Sansa Stark where it’s mentioned that the Bolton men fight for them out of fear and that, if they sense things turning against them, they’ll switch sides. They apparently just skipped over this storyline.
I bet, BookJon would do it with much better strategy, and not standing alone in the charge of the enemy... Considering Jon's advises to Stannis I accept something really great strategy from Jon for the Battle for Winterfell.
Did Rhaegar actually have grounds to annul his marriage to Elia Martell though? The marriage was consumated and they'd had kids. As far as I can tell, Jon is still a bastard and the marriage to Lyanna in the show doesn't make sense. The name reveal of Aegon in the show to me just seems like they're combining Jon Snow with Young Griff to create an Aegon Targaryen. To me it seems like the name Jon is far more likely. Rhaegar's best friend's first name was Jon, and if that's the name Lyanna told Ned, Ned would have found that very convenient, because everyone would have thought he named the child for Jon Arryn, who was like a second father to him and Robert. I think Jon is really just Jon Sand. However, royal bastards have been known to make a new last name, like the Blackfyres. I think it'd be pretty cool if the resurrected Jon started being called by some new title once people find out his true parentage and aren't really sure what to call him. Rhaegar's plan with Jon seemed to be to give birth to Azor Ahai, once he realised he was not the prophesied hero. Sure Jon having the Seven Kingdoms behind him would help, but Rhaegar didn't plan on dying, or his children dying. He might not have been shy about showing his bastard Jon Sand in court and raising him as the younger half brother of Aegon and Rhaenys. If the brothers had grown to be close friends, then Jon would have the army he needed when the White Walkers came.
WafflingMean44 he had grounds to annul the marriage. Annulment is basically the same as divorce and it was annulled by the high septon and the marriage to lyanna and both the annulment were documented. So I don’t see the point in you calling him Sand. His parents were LEGALLY married and he is the heir to the seven kingdoms in the show. Will it be the same in the books? We’ll see but it will follow along those lines those.
@@Rick_zeene The show tends to ignore logic and lore regularly. Does anyone have consummated marriages annulled in the books? I only just finished them so if it was mentioned odds are I forgot.
WafflingMean44 and you were talking about the show not the books and like you said the show tends to ignore logic. That’s why I said I don’t know if it’ll be the same in the books. But in show canon he is a Targaryen and not a bastard and it was proven. So for you to call him Sand is rather ridiculous. I get what you’re saying but he is a legitimate Targaryen.
@@wafflingmean4477 What about Tyrion and Tysha? Didn't Tywin have thier marriage absolved after teaching his son a "lesson" by giving his wife to the guardsmen?
And so would Dany. I don't understand why you guys have difficulty with this. Dany was the same way as Stannis who burned people who didn't "bend the knee". Bitch was just as bad as him. Lust for the Iron Throne.
SportsFan_9630 its not a lust. stannis wants the throne because above all, stannis abides by the rules. in SoS, he says that he doesnt want the throne, but he will fight to take it because it is his by rights and he has to uphold the laws of Westeros
I imagine, in the books, once the big battle of Stannis vs Boltons, everyone comes out with their different Starks to be king in the North. "You have a Stark, You have a Stark, are there any other Starks we should know about?!?" Cuts to Arya training in Braavos
I like the idea of many small conspiracies. Imagine them all showing up at winterfell to bring down the Boltons and each of them is like "wtf are you doing here?" And there is all this confusion about the whole situation and it's a little like this scene in Life of Brian where these 2 groups meet eachother on their way to kidnap the wife of Biggus Dickus. God, I love the North.
Conspiracist Group 1: “The North Remembers!” *Kills Boltons* Conspiracist Group 2: “The North remembers!” *Kills Boltons* The 2 groups look at each other then at the Boltons then back at each other. “If you kill Boltons you can’t be that bad”
The northern plot in the show was fucking ridiculous. The Umbers after several years of raising Rickon just offer him up to ramsay for 0 reason. And Jon didn't save the north, neither did sansas "political maneuvering". Little finger saved it and then he forgot why he did it. And the whole "the north remembers" meant nothing. Only like 50 of them helped jon. Hell the fucking glovers abandoned him before the long night. It should of been an army of Northmen rallying to save Jon in the battle of the bastards. That would of been epic and made far more sense. But instead we get littlefinger ex machina. And wyman Manderleys became just a throwaway character with like 1 line. What a fucking disaster. Fuck D&D
Yeah, and then in the show they make Smalljon Umber betray the Starks for no reason, when in the books he was one of Robb's main swords and died fighting in the Red Wedding

Luca Johnson Stannis is still kind of an ass in the books and Ramsey sends a letter to Jon claiming that he killed Stannis after 7 days of battle. However I don't think that's true because in the letter, he asks for his wife (Fake Arya) back, implying that he doesn't know where she is. Theon and fake Arya escape to Stannis's army by the end of ADWD, so if Ramsey really beat Stannis, he should have found Theon and fake Arya with them.

im new to game of thrones and trying to understand it deeper. but your videos are so deep to the point where i feel as if im learning the history of the universe.
Yes, extremely complex plot. TV show very entertaining, but only scratches the surface. Love the show, but books are much better. More plot lines, tons more characters, minute details and hidden clues. Trying to figure out where everyone fits in the grand story is what it's all about. Also, the books and show seem to be taking different paths to apparently arrive at the same end (we think). GRRM is a genius....but maddeningly slow. Anticipation for Winds of Winter killing me!!!
Geompat 1 Finally! Someone who thinks like I do. I'm tired of the constant shitting on the show by book snobs. I love them both. Yes season 5 was..... okay (and that's being kind) but books 4 and 5 weren't literary masterpieces either. Don't get me wrong they had phenomenal moments. However by the time book 5 ends it's rather crossed the line from complex to bloated. Even GRRM has alluded to this it's why he plans to open up with the two battles and resolve the MANY hanging threads in book 6. So book 7 can be manageable.
+Ratonhnhaké:ton AKA Connor Kenway hahaha yes. I dont normally like watching shows but GoT caught my eye. and yes i love hip hop news. im just mixed like that. i guess were soul mates too
They are all conspiring of their own accord to make sure that there is always a Stark in Winterfell. They say "there must always a be a Stark in Winterfell" so often it must be linked to some kind of prophecy about the wall or something.
@@cockycookie1 They rise up from the grave, to be the wardens of the north. That's why they're buried with swords and stuff. I mean, the Starks seem to be inclined to getting revived, so might as well go crazy with the theorising.
You forgot to mention the fact that in the Vale, Sansa has been communicating with Littlefinger about taking back Winterfell from the Boltons as well. So there is a slight plot involving her as well.
You also have the fact that Sansa is now to be betrothed to Harrold Hardyng, Robert Arryn's heir of the Vale. Harrold is the cousin and ward of Anya Waynwood, who has shown displeasure at Baelish's influence in the Eyrie, but still gives her blessing for Little Fingers supposed bastard daughter to marry the Heir to the Vale all because Baelish paid off House Waynwood's debts? Or is it more likely that Anya Waynwood is made aware of Sansa's identity and agrees to allow Harrold Hardyng marry not the baseborn daughter of an upjumped minor lord, but in fact marry the eldest true born heir to winterfell and all the north
@Schmidtallica Isn't it bastard 'niece' in the books? (I could be wrong, it's been *an age* since I last read it) - as far as I can tell, Sansa/ 'Alayne's' reveal to the Vale is what may tip the balance of power- potentially making the Vale/ Sansa someone that Dany or fAegon may have to court for an alliance. And, I mean, in some fashion, Sansa has at least a claim- to like *three* realms; she's heiress of the North- as eldest legitimate child of Ned Stark (if we ignore that Robb felt he had to disinherit her at the time {to prevent the Lannisters taking control}, & possibly Arya, too- & the belief that Bran [likely rendered impotent by his paraplegia, but I don't know for a certainty] & Rickon- still a child- are assumed dead... they're not, but most don't *know* that - & how many people _know_ about Robb's will, to legitimise Jon?). As the eldest legitimate child of Catelyn Stark, nee Tully- who was the eldest child of the late Lord Tully, she's in line to potentially inherit the Riverlands- should anything happen to her uncle, & Edmure's unborn child - her maternal grandmother's family was the last to legitimately hold Harrenhal, too. And, she's cousin to Robert Arryn- & is *also* set to marry his heir apparent, that puts her in line for the Vale itself. You can see why Petyr *needs* to keep hold of someone so valuable.
I loved the character of ned stark...a man so loyal that people were ready to die to save his daughters and sons... The people loved and honoured him...there always must be a stark in winterfell....
@@concept5631 Eddard was a Chad, listen to the smallfolk. Where Tywin kill and treated everyone like he shit gold. Now Tywin dead his family about to collapse where Starks are rising up.
Great video. Just one small disagreement - I really don't think the Ryswells are loyal to the Boltons. Yes, they were connected by marriage through Bethany Ryswell, but she's dead. Not only is Bethany dead, but her only child, Domeric (who by all accounts seemed to be a decent guy) was Bolton's legit heir and is widely suspected to have been murdered by Ramsey. Instead of seeking justice for Domeric, Roose appears to have rewarded Ramsay for killing him. There is no way that wouldn't piss off the Ryswells. I see no reason why they would be loyal and a great motive for them to want to take him out.
The first 6 seasons of the show are great, because they are mostly true to the books but season 7 suffers because they ran out of book material to use, because it hasn't or wasn't written at the time. Film isn't as flexible as literary work, which naturally makes the books better.
@@lluewhyn that wasn't the reason they went with that series of events, they had to advance the show because they were on a schedule, they didn't have the luxury of waiting for the next book, so they had to improvise. Not saying what they had happen in the show is good. Just that there is a reason for it being worse than the books.
@@scapegoatanimations2191 Nice theory, but that doesn't hold water. There's a whole plotline in the books about how the Red Wedding has acted as only a temporary victory for the Lannisters/Freys/Boltons, and the amount of Blowback from their serious transgressions of social norms is going to seriously bite them in the butt. Chickens come home to roost and all that. This starts in AFFC (end of ASOS, really), which was released in 2005, and it's evident that the Freys are not only hated by everyone else in the realm including their own allies, but are also killing each other. In ADWD, it's becoming increasingly clear that "The North Remembers", and many of the Northern houses are secretly plotting against the Boltons, which is what this video is about. Although the exact resolution of that plotline hasn't been released, it's very obvious that there's a huge theme of the North rejecting Bolton rule, to the point where Roose is scared and Ramsay is oblivious. The exact particulars of where the book is going don't need to be matched, just the general guideslines. ADWD was released back in 2011, about the same time as the beginning of the show. So, no, since virtually the entire North is accepting of the Bolton treachery (Umber doesn't even mind Ramsay killing Roose!), only respects power, etc., and there's almost no theme at all in the show about how such wanton treachery has bad long-term consequences (Ramsay's men are loyal to the last), I'd say this is a deliberate decision, not inability to utilize the next book.
Did you do one about Frey Pies? Wyman Manderly was really keen on serving 3 huge "pork" pies and serves them with glee while asking the singer to sing of the Rat Cook. Coming to the realisation that those pies were probably made up of the 3 missing Freys was one of the most satisfying in the entire series of books.

Can you imagine the plot twist potential with Howland if R+L=J is not true. I mean the D&D have said they are consciously diverging from the books. so is possible that it will go down different in the books. Personally I think there plenty of evidence for N+A=J. yeah come at me bro.
Emperor Palpatine spot on. This political intrigue is what makes the series so good. The writers of the show had a chance to make the best tv show ever and they massacred it by dumbing everything down
Emperor Palpatine While I agree with you, and I think the books are better, we also have to concede the fact that they have time restrictions and in general adapting a very rich book like asoiaf into a ten hour per season show is not that easy
Victor Okere that's true. It's still disappointing though. Imagine if littlefingers army offer to sansa had come with the condition she had to marry him? Her hesitation and silence would be justified and we'd have a cliffhanger for s7. I thought of that halfway through episode 9. It shouldn't be that hard to come up with good story as well as great action (which I admit they do do well)
The Red Wedding really was the ultimate gamble, turning out to be a "cut off your nose to spite your face" moment. All of the North hating the Boltons and Freys, surely losing the respect of other houses for breaking guest right rules/traditions. You don't just forget that the North remembers
The Boltons took over the North without having the soft power to really hold it. The Boltons betrayed all of the North while being far away from the their southern allies...
See everyone called Ned a fool for being an honorable man. They said Robb was a full for killing a karstark out of honor and marrying a woman because he had sex with her. They may not be the best when it comes to deceit but they are the best with honor. The northern men will always be passionately loyal to the Stark's. No other great house has such loyalty due to their deceitfulness. THE NORTH REMEMBERS!!!!!!!
Right. The Westerlands were loyal to the Lannisters out of fear of Tywin, especially after he slaughtered the Reynes & Tarbecks in their failed rebellion against the Lannister's. They don't have the same level of devotion or fear for Cersei & Jaime as they did for Tywin.
While Robb Stark was an honorable man, he didn't kill Karstark out of just honor. Karstark committed treason by killing not only Robb's prisoners (who were under Robb's protection), but also killing the Tully guards who had been guarding the Lannister children. At the same time, he had also ordered his army to secretly depart during the night and track down Jaime. By the time that Robb and Co. are confronting Lord Karstark, that army has already abandoned the Stark cause and are starting their reign of chaos and pillaging across the Riverlands in search of Jaime (for a promised reward by Karstark). Essentially, Lord Karstark has started TKing Team Stark at this point (Bolton later does as well). Robb's concern with killing Karstark is largely about what it might mean for patching relations with Karstark's son. There's also a bit about Edmure hoping that they can cover it up to avoid letting the Lannisters know, but they all realize that the cat is out of the bag.
I feel the Northern Mountain Clans might simply view Jon's bastardy as an inconvenience but still preferable compared to the fact Jon is an adult who has seen battle and commanded men in action. Bran might be less useful to them. A young boy (though brilliant and perhaps best suited to rule of all of them) who is crippled is not what they need right now. Rickon though to Manderly is very valuable. As a young boy, he would need someone to rule for him... who better than Wyman. Wyman can have Roose's role, but seen as a hero doing it. Then he just marries his daughter (the one he promised he would find a great husband for) to Rickon and his grandson will sit Winterfell as Warden of the North... and if things go well... King in the North. And really, it would work well for Rickon. Eventually Wyman will die and Rickon (fully grown) will take his rightful due. Another view comes with Shireen. If you support Bran or Rickon as the next Stark Lord, pitching to Stannis marry his girl to either of them is playing for the whole stake. Once Stannis wins (if he can), she would be in line to rule. And eventually a Stark would sit the Iron Throne. In other times, a Bran Shireen reign would be full of win. Their intelligence and temperment would be the second coming of Jaherys the First and his queen.
I am so curious what will happen in Castle Black after Jon being murdered. Jon is warging into Ghost, I think. Who would want to spill blood to avenge him? - Tormund and the 50 wildlings, including Borroq, who will know, that Jon's soul is in Ghost. - Val - I think, the mountain clans either. Robb was betrayed and stabbed to death by his men - same as Jon. They will see this murder for betraying and murdering their another possible king and good leader. They will want to kill the murderers either and they will mourn their another possible king in Jon after Robb. - Selyse and her southern knights is a good question. Selyse might not mind if Jon is dead, but what will Bowen Marsch do with her and Shireen? Handing them over to the Boltons? Probably he would, but I don't think, he would have time to do that. Bowen Marsch and co. won't live long enough to being executed by Jon: tormund, Val, Wun Wun, and the mountain clans will kill them first. - And probably there is another faction within the Nightswatch whom would not be okay with murdering Jon either. Anyway, four factions in Castle Black and Jon was the only one keeping them all in control - when he will be gone, everything will be fallen apart in Castle Black. It will be interesting to read...
Orsolya Pámer unlikely, I think that Melisandre put an illusion over Jon and Tormund and switched them. So Tormund was killed at the Wall and Jon is leading the Wildlings to free “Arya.” Not to mention that the people raised by Thoros are little more than Wights fueled by fire.
"a maiden girl could walk the kingsroad in her name-day gown and still go unmolested" that's a testament to discipline and military might more than anything.
Yeah. I've always wanted to create a universe like this. Harry Potter, Star Wars, GoT are all series' that could/do have so much back story involved with them. Like I wish JK Rowling would do a Hogwarts founders story, or a younger Dumbledore story like how he acquired Fawkes; a Voldemort story (though that might be too dark for JK) I have written a few short stories (not published) but those are like only 20k words. GoT is roughly 300-400k words per book. But it would be something cool to do someday. Create a universe that people dedicate RUclips channels to discuss and that could have dozens of indirect stories related to the main plot. Maybe I should start thinking of one.. Hmm.. Where to start?

Great Video! No wonder GRRM had to delay WofW 20 times. He has to do his story justice and it has become extremely complicated to resolve and unify all the plotlines. The TV show has 0% of that covered instead there is filler.... how on earth is there filler..
@Joseph Clark & @Ice&Fire Tell me about it- they could have added *good* subplots- already present in the books; they could have done justice to Dorne, to Barristan, the North, & Jon & Sansa's arcs - hell, I would have taken the 'hybrid' storyline for Sansa if they had just done it *differently* . It's apparent that they just wanted to stroke their egos; thinking they were spectacular writers, when really- they were just lazy, being able to ride Martin's coattails early on (& their mistakes were less noticeable, by & large, 'til s5)- & f*cking it all up when they were left on their own... on that-- how in hell were there *only* two/ three people working on the scripts for a *major* franchise show? The Glover children are with the ironborn, Asha and her friends are captives of Stannis, Wex is with Wyman, Dagmer holds captive the surviving Tallharts at Torrhen's Square. This "hostage" situation will play a part in how the Northern conspiracy moves forward. I love George RR Martin.
What I take away from the books is this; despite the wolf pack being scattered, the Starks are the most successful family in Westeros. With one or two exceptions, loyalty to the Starks among their vassals is bone deep, not the fear that has cowed the Westerlands, the intrigues and marriages the Tyrells have had to engage in to keep HIghgarden , but loyalty to the point that the Manderly, the Flints, Glovers etc. are willing to put their lives on the line for a family which has lost everything.
@@duckboiii4441 Only because Renly was a great charismatic ruler that kept them together. During Robert's Rebellion/War of the Usurper, alot of Storm Lords opposed and fought Robert Baratheon. Edit: Which is why I also think Robert gave Renly Storm's End. Stannis would try to use fear and discipline to keep them together, which would not work with the Storm Lords, it would only work with the Valyrian Lords under Dragonstone as they have been loyal to the Targaryens for centuries, and Robert needed a strict military commander to keep them under control. This is because even IF ALL the Dragonstone bannermen revolted, they wouldnt be able to produce much troops because of how small their lands were.
Mace Tyrell has been doing a fantastic job surprisingly. Back in the day, when the Reach went to war, half or more their lords would oppose them or not join in at all in their wars.
It's my understanding that when Robb wrote his will to make Jon heir, he legitimised him at the same time, making him a Stark was the only way he'd be accepted by the North as King. Thus, Bran is the second in line.
My guess is that the will of Robb will make the whole King in the North thing easier for Jon, but then comes the Targ revelation and things get a little more confusing, but still would follow the man who's been leading them.
I'd like to see how Roose and Ramsay react when their disgruntled vassals turn on them in the midst of battle and encircle the outnumbered Bolton loyalists
The speech Wyman Manderly gives to Davos in the books is some badass shit fr. It's very rare books feel as cinematic when dealing with dialogue like this.
this is what separates you from other channels about GoT theories, everything is broken down masterfully! I definitely don't mind the wait between videos as long as the quality is this top notch
I think the northman just don't give a fig about the Iron Throne... They just want a Stark in the north, and if it's done, 'who cares about Stannis and the other 6 kingdoms'? I wouldn't say they're not loyal, I just think they are not fully supportive of ALL of Stannis' claims
Most of them seem to want independence though, and with Jon being the legitimate heir, he might grant it to the North without further bloodshed. Stannis, on the other hand, would probably deny it.
@@tibot4228 Jon isn't the legitimate heir though, Stannis is. Jon/Aegon claim is wiped out when Bobby Baratheon started a new dynasty, to which Stannis is the heir. And I think in the end Stannis would know well enough to grant independence to the north. If Stannis and Shireen are dead, then you can say Aegon has the best claim.
@@blueefficacy But the Baratheon 'dynasty' was based- at least, in part- on their Targ connection - you could even argue that Jon, by his Targaryen link, even has a right to become Stannis' heir apparent, because really- Shireen is unlikely to ever marry or bear children- so who follows her? This is not counting fAegon, who's older than Jon- & obviously Dany, who comes after her brother's children.
@@OcarinaSapphr- Taking in consideration only legitim and recognized heirs we know the throne belongs to Stannis, after him Shireen after her it goes back to Daenerys once they're distant cousins.
Barbrey Dustin talks all that shit about Ned Stark, but you have to remember who she's talking to: she expects Theon to snitch to Ramsay, so she tells him something she thinks Ramsay will believe while giving herself cover to retrieve Ned's bones and confirm Wex's story. Something's going on in Winterfell...
I think Barbrey legitimately hates the Starks for her being spurned. Doesn't mean she's a safe ally for House Bolton though, she definitely hates Ramsay.

It's amazing how well thought out and complex this is. How did the show have such good source material and still manage to fuck it up this bad? It's like they didn't even try past season 4
One of my favorite theories, cannot wait to see how it plays out. I noticed you didnt mention Larence Snow, Lord Hornwood's bastard. Stannis could legitimize Larence to secure loyalty of Hornwood men since Lord Hornwood and his only son die in AGOT and Lady Hornwood is murdered by Ramsey.
If you made a 10 hour video I would watch every second...I love the way you edit and create these masterpieces thank you so much Alt Shift you are the man.
I feel like there's a lot of smaller, more independent conspiracies that all the factions are planning. So its actually a really good plot. If one faction gets found out, the other factions can still move on and keep their plans alive. So, it would be a really good plot point. But, I only worry that Stannis would never agree to it as he thinks that he deserves to be king of all 7 kingdoms. So, there is that. There is also the question of Rickon or Jon who's the real king. Robb made Jon a stark, but Rickon is Ned Stark's true son. So there is that as well.
Your videos are always both informative, concise and well-produced. The way they smoothly transition from clip to clip is a great choice for emphasising the correlation between two points discussed in the commentary. It makes them both easy to follow and easy on the eye, and the clearly-spoken narration makes them equally digestible podcasts as they are videos.
When Alt Shift X says "And by one plot or another (awesome pause), the Starks WILL rule the North again" you lay back and smile the smuggest of smiles....
I'm sorry, that Rhegar picture looks like a still from some cheesy 80s pop video. They said he like to sing though, I just didn'trealize he was on the streets of kings landing rocking out acapella versions of take on me.
As for the Ryswells, Domeric Bolton, legitimate son of Roose and a Ryswell lady, is believed to have been killed by Ramsay. Even if they are loyal to Roose, they wouldn't be so to Ramsay.
At first I was okay with them deviating away from the books, but they ended up oversimplifying everything. Like, Dany's solution to everything is Dragons in the show. They have basically turned Tyrion into a character who's just there to joke around.
hamzoloo why do you want to see the same things from the book to the show? i like being surprised, i don't like knowing what's going to happen. anyways, they really can't do anything as GRR doesn't want to reveal much even to them. he didn't finish the books so they have to wing it.
I know that question was for the other guy but I'll try to answer it, the problem is that the show runners oversimplify everything. It's not that their story writing is very bad, it's just that there are better options available(Was it really that hard to let Blackfish live? I mean, it was a no brainer, but they decided to kill him to oversimplify).
There are actually less surprising things going on right now, than there were back in seasons 1 to 3 ;) Just saying. The intrigue is gone, the world has gone flat.
Sidenote: from Theon's experiences I think we can guess that it's not starvation that causes Donella Hornwood to chew off her fingers. Probably it's because Ramsay flayed her fingers.
Fantastic video as always. It's something I hadn't previously considered, but Stoneheart crowning Jon - perhaps even being key to his resurrection - makes a lot of sense to me, and would bring Catelyn's arc to a satisfying close.

If I remember my books right, and i admit it's been a little since I read them, doesnt Lady Dustin absolutely HATE the Starks? Wasnt her husband with Ned at the tower of joy and got killed and so she blames Ned for that and even tells Theon this in the crypts? Or am I thinking of another Lady?
She is lying. She hates Ramsay for killing his nephew Domeric, Roose's eldest son and heir, whom Lady Dustin loves and adores. She also hates Roose, for letting Ramsay kill Domeric and doing nothing. Above all, she hates the Starks for taking away Brandon and his lord husband.
But who does she hates more? The already dead man who is responsible for the death of her husband and not bringing his bones back? His family who so far had done nothing wrong to her (though, her hatred for Ned could've been extended to the rest of the Starks, there is no telling with a person seething with anger) or the bastard who is highly suspected of killing his brother, has done numerous detestable things to fellow Northerners and even High-born, mentally sick by all accounts and is the heir to all of North and his father who quite possibly have known about Ramsay's killing of Domeric and not only allowed it but rewarded him by making him his heir? Also by all accounts it appears that Lady Dustin really really loves Domeric
D&D did Edmure so dirty by having the Blackfish die in Riverrun. Edmure helping Ser Brynden was his last act of defiance before ending up back in chains - and arguably/realistically was the biggest punch he could have thrown at that point. Ser Brynden isn't just some throwaway character, but just like Ser Barristan, they kill off characters for what I am sure are astoundingly stupid reasons.

They're all basically a barrel of gunpowder, just waiting for a chance to explode.
@@Luckma1 It's probably gonna end with the conspiracies coming together but the Boltons shut it down with some trick up their sleeve.

Though...

@Bla Bla Really? When that happen?
I don't think we're gonna be getting a good ending for Catelyn. My theory is that Edmure will be the one to kill her.
@Bla Bla This isn't true at all dude, you read a completely different series then, she never felt remorse over how she treated Jon.
The "Battle of the bastards" will be less cinematic but MUCH MORE FUN in the books, by the look of this.

John Hurley A LOT of things could happen in seven days. Theon, Asha and Jeyne could have simply escape somehow during the battle.

Yes, extremely complex plot. TV show very entertaining, but only scratches the surface. Love the show, but books are much better. More plot lines, tons more characters, minute details and hidden clues. Trying to figure out where everyone fits in the grand story is what it's all about.

@Schmidtallica
Isn't it bastard 'niece' in the books?
OcarinaSapph1r3 -24 damn to give bratty little Sansa that much power is frightening.
Yohn Royce also might have remembered her, in the book sansa was afraid Royce would realise who she is from his previous visit to winterfell

I see no reason why they would be loyal and a great motive for them to want to take him out.
very true
Chances are the Ryswells will go behind the Bolton's backs and give Stannis their loyalty.
Bolton didn't reward him he knew it was him but needed an heir an stability if he was not likely to have more sons
Poor Domeric. He just wanted a brother.
@@matmu3290 yeah, but not likely the Ryswells are in the mood for excuses.
The show ruined the northerners character: loyalty.
Kind of the whole theme of the North is their loyalty to the Starks. Show: "Eh, it'll be more dramatic if everyone sides with the Boltons."

It shouldn't be that hard to come up with good story as well as great action (which I admit they do do well)
Bobby Gane yeah that could have been cool and would have made more sense regarding sansa's silence
imagine the money they'll make if they followed the book closely i don't know if im correct but a longer running show = more money
The Red Wedding really was the ultimate gamble, turning out to be a "cut off your nose to spite your face" moment. All of the North hating the Boltons and Freys, surely losing the respect of other houses for breaking guest right rules/traditions. You don't just forget that the North remembers
Plus the Boltons reputations as psychopaths didn’t win them loyalty points.
The Boltons took over the North without having the soft power to really hold it. The Boltons betrayed all of the North while being far away from the their southern allies...
"By one plot or another, the Starks will rule the North again"... Man, that gave me goosebumps.
Well the last book a dream of spring original title is a time for wolves so it's pretty obvious that the wolves will come back
See everyone called Ned a fool for being an honorable man.
Yup they are the most popular dead men in town.
Cringe

- Val
- I think, the mountain clans either.
Orsolya Pámer It’s probably the top contender for the prologue alongside Jamie with Lady Stoneheart (I’m pretty sure Jamie will end up dying).
Stannis can win, he outnumbers the enemy by 1,100 men who're guerrilla war experts, well disciplined soldiers, and veterans of Blackwater.

Yeah. I've always wanted to create a universe like this. Harry Potter, Star Wars, GoT are all series' that could/do have so much back story involved with them. Like I wish JK Rowling would do a Hogwarts founders story, or a younger Dumbledore story like how he acquired Fawkes; a Voldemort story (though that might be too dark for JK)
I have written a few short stories (not published) but those are like only 20k words. GoT is roughly 300-400k words per book. But it would be something cool to do someday. Create a universe that people dedicate RUclips channels to discuss and that could have dozens of indirect stories related to the main plot.

And it wasn't even good filler. Nothing like the stuff you find in twinkies.

Tell me about it- they could have added *good* subplots- already present in the books; they could have done justice to Dorne, to Barristan, the North, & Jon & Sansa's arcs - hell, I would have taken the 'hybrid' storyline for Sansa if they had just done it *differently* .

On top of all the confusion you mentioned going on in the north. You forgot to mention the "hostage" situation.

Probably because the Starks have been there from the beginning of Westerosi human civilization
John Hughes what about House Baratheon? People seem to be loyal to them at least
I find it funny that the Boltons are so unpopular that there are multiple conspiracies happening at the same time to overtake them.
It's my understanding that when Robb wrote his will to make Jon heir, he legitimised him at the same time, making him a Stark was the only way he'd be accepted by the North as King. Thus, Bran is the second in line.

I can’t believe how much better the actual source material is compared to the show. The show is like a child’s painting of what actually happened.
This is a great video - explains northern politics very clearly and within reason. Good work!
I’ve read the books three times and I haven’t caught on to half the point you bring up In your videos. Your analysis of the books is just stunning. Well done sir, well done.
3 years later... bran is still a tree.

@@faisalkamal4319 lmao.
It's amazing how well thought out and complex this is. How did the show have such good source material and still manage to fuck it up this bad? It's like they didn't even try past season 4
Whenever a book that has political intrigue is adapted for the screen the writers will inevitably cut some out.
"The Multiple Medium Northern Conspiracies"
One of my favorite theories, cannot wait to see how it plays out. I noticed you didnt mention Larence Snow, Lord Hornwood's bastard. Stannis could legitimize Larence to secure loyalty of Hornwood men since Lord Hornwood and his only son die in AGOT and Lady Hornwood is murdered by Ramsey.
A few more years and RR Martin won't remember.
I think you forgot a major reason why the Northern lords might respect Stannis, he defended the wall.
I'm sorry, that Rhegar picture looks like a still from some cheesy 80s pop video. They said he like to sing though, I just didn'trealize he was on the streets of kings landing rocking out acapella versions of take on me.

whut...
That is the official artwork for Rhaegar Targaryen from The World of Ice & Fire.
😂🤣
Only if the TV show was more like to books.
Then you'd have to wait 5 years between seasons? haha jk
Ahh wont we love that?
Then they would have left a cliffhanger after season 5
You mean… never finished?
As for the Ryswells, Domeric Bolton, legitimate son of Roose and a Ryswell lady, is believed to have been killed by Ramsay. Even if they are loyal to Roose, they wouldn't be so to Ramsay.
This channel is the best explainer of theories in the world of ice and fire. This is truly amazing
remember when the show writers followed GRRM instead of making it a OTT fanfic show. completely lost their way imo
At first I was okay with them deviating away from the books, but they ended up oversimplifying everything. Like, Dany's solution to everything is Dragons in the show. They have basically turned Tyrion into a character who's just there to joke around.
It is a sad thing really
hamzoloo why do you want to see the same things from the book to the show? i like being surprised, i don't like knowing what's going to happen. anyways, they really can't do anything as GRR doesn't want to reveal much even to them. he didn't finish the books so they have to wing it.
Too bad the show writers said “F you to all of this “
This channel is like the CGP Grey for GOT
Sidenote: from Theon's experiences I think we can guess that it's not starvation that causes Donella Hornwood to chew off her fingers. Probably it's because Ramsay flayed her fingers.
This is incredibly well put. I can't even imagine the effort it took to compile and organize this together so well. Kudos, my man.
Fantastic video as always. It's something I hadn't previously considered, but Stoneheart crowning Jon - perhaps even being key to his resurrection - makes a lot of sense to me, and would bring Catelyn's arc to a satisfying close.
The books are soooooo much better than the show.
Always and everywhere.
I watched the show first, should I read the books. I don’t want to go over what I already know.
@@polishherowitoldpilecki5521 i watched the show before too, i started the books and they are fantastic, by book 4, most of what happens in book 4 and 5 arent in the show so it isnt really going over what u know
@@polishherowitoldpilecki5521 I’d read asos as well as affc and adwd. (Book 3,4,5). Book 3 is the same as season 4 except several extra stuff happens at the end which would make the rest much more confusing.
@@fyreda2572 I've read all 5 recently and man - just how few similarities ADWD has with the Show! It's an alternative universe already.
This is BY FAR the best video explaining The North in the book series. I rewatch your videos pretty much on a weekly basis; I go for a walk, plug in the ear buds, and walk until I can’t remember which HOUSE I belong to!!
I had read the books in english (not my native language) about 3 times and i thought i got through it quite well but your videos really make me wonder what else i havent noticed :D
Thanks buddy, now i have to re-read them ones more

@@Medversitario He just said its not his native language, dont be a dick
@@StefanPiano is correcting a mistake considered as being a dick?
Damn, all this is 100 times more interesting than anything that happens in the last 2 seasons of the show :( Praying that Martin actually manages to finish the books and all this cool stuff gets properly paid off.
He will not finish them. We can just hope he allows someone to finish them after his death
She hates Ned with all her heart. Whether that translates to Starks in general is unknown.
She might be lying to avoid suspicion.
The Lady doth protest too much
D&D did Edmure so dirty by having the Blackfish die in Riverrun.
