These days I game almost solely on a new Fire HD 10 with Moonlight and a BSP-D8. $50 for the Fire with an old tablet trade-in, and $20 for the controller. The Kompanio 520 isn't quite as fast the Helio G99, but with streaming from the gaming PC, it hardly matters.
I got mine today and the screen is a little distorted, the letters are blurry and not comfortable to read for a longer time. removing the preinstalled screen protector solves this problem? I wonder if this is the blurriness you mentioned in the beginning of the review. this device dpi should be enough for crisp and clear font rendering.
Hello, greetings from Mexico City. Hey, I know there's a lot of difference between this tablet and the Lenovo Legion Y700 2023. I've seen that the Lenovo has had problems because it has a Chinese ROM.
I'm definitely interested in seeing more videos about tablet-based gaming. Many tablets have beautiful big screens and enough horsepower to emulate a lot of platforms, plus their prices can be very appealing. I just wish more tablets supported HDMI via USB-C.
I just picked this up after a marathon search online for something that was 8 inches, cheap and most importantly, USB-C in the right damn place. This tablet seems like the sweet spot.
This is an absolutely high quality and detailed review! Really helps to address all of my concerns for emulation gaming. And really appreciate that you used different controllers for the testdrive. Also, the battery life test was a huge bonus. Thank you again for doing up such a fantastic review! 😀👍👍👍
How cool, awaiting mine in the next days, to supplement a Galileo G8. Working nice already with a Xiaoxin Pad Pro (a 12.7" tablet based on snapdragon 970) but it's... massive 😄
@@MrLazyleader yes it does for me but its slow. If im playing games or doing anything on while usb is plugged it in bascially holds it at the same charge, not dropping but not increasing until i close everything which is fine for me. Just have to make sure you give it a good charge before
I'm also wondering how they're addressing / paging the virtual memory, as I think the G99 is max 12GB. Sounds like a creative way to slap 16GB on the package.
Question regarding the Steam game streaming as I've never done it before. What is the power consumption of your PC while you're streaming the game? Is the PC and GPU still running at normal wattage while it's streaming the game? Or is it using slightly less power than normal because its rendering lesser resolution compared to say a 4K60P resolution if you were to play it on a normal desktop mode??
Great question! Yes, that's correct. You can set your games to render at a lower resolution to match the display of the tablet which will reduce the overheard compared to gaming at 4k60.
really appreciate your thorough comparison of controllers and including the weights! something most people overlook. have steam deck oled but may sell it and get this tablet and pair w telescoping controller instead considering how versatile and lightweigh t it is!
Man I get suckered into all the specs then the actual product.. Looking at these (250au), the y700(600au), the refurbed minis6(1100au with +care). But if i can fit it into my little bag on the go to, read, read and watch media. Then that cant be a bad thing.. One speaker is a bit odd though but it looks like its worth a go🙃. Thanks for the review 👊
Why don't people review the ereader use case?... It would be so easy to do... just install Acrobat Reader and an epub reader, test it with "normal" and "inverted" (white letters on black background) mode, and that would be perfect
Thanks for this content. I modified the GameSir G8 controller (cheaper clone of the Redmagic ShadowBlade 2) to use with my iPlay 50 mini Pro NFE tablet. I noticed after modding the controller and playing with it using the iPlay tablet that there's a great deal of flex which can easily cause my tablet to pop out. I noticed that you 3D printed a backplate to remove the flex. Do you know where I can go to do something similar? I don't have access to a 3D printer.
You're very welcome! The 3d print I used is by the very awesome BassDerek: www.printables.com/model/667541-back-cover-for-gamesir-g8-universal-and-y700 The piece can be adjusted to fit different tablet sizes including the iPlay 50 Mini Pro. You should be able to supply the file to a 3d printing service. I know a lot of local libraries will do 3d printing and is a good option to consider as well. I hope this helps a little bit! 🙏
@@retrotechdad on the front side i see that you have it covered with kind of plexiglass to cover the springs, i dont see this in the 3d files, you made this yourself?
"virtual memory" is not a notable feature. that is called "swapping" when the storage is temporarily used as RAM; which is extremely slow compared to the actual RAM. thorough review though covered all bases. this is probably the best budget tablet ever: G99, 8GB RAM/128GB storage, 8.4" 1080p (+250ppi) IPS LCD, what's not to like?? except the weird usb-c placement and 1 speaker. for this size and display density, im sure there was a reason to put them that way bc internal parts were shaped in a way that only allowed available space in certain areas... iplay60 mini pro is available and they "fixed" the off-center usb-c port, added stereo pair speakers, and slightly larger battery. so obviously they had internal space to spare so... i dont know why the layout is the way it is lol.
I finally just bought this! I already have the G8 so I'm excited to finally remote play my PS5 on a decent viewable screen bigger than my phone and my phone ain't small! Also just looking forward to having a tablet for surfing/YT instead of laptop. It's just under $100 right now on Aliexpress and it's 90 day returns in case you're afraid it won't last. I think they even throw in a case for free if reviews are any indication. Confession I bought it for $126 flash sale on Amazon last week and it arrived yesterday but I didn't open it cuz the Aliexpress deal was so much better 😅
Can you link me the one you got for under $100? The pro version is $130 at its lowest, the price you're describing looks to be only for the non pro version
The Surface Duo will always be my absolute favorite way to play DS/3DS. This is just a neat possibility with smaller tablets and an external controller.
i didn't see all the review, but for the people that read the commentary section, they need to know that the wifi is crap. i mean it's range is very very bad, that make me regret my purshase, because i bought it for cloud gaming from my desktop, and it's terrible
Thank you for the informational video about tablets! I have been looking to purchase one recently and discovered that the cheapest, name-brand tablets are about 150-190 USD depending on screen size (~8-11"), and are also limited to 4GB RAM. I decided that I personally wanted an OLED screen if I am investing 200 USD into a tablet. I found that Lenovo is selling their Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 for 290 USD (selective sites). It's an 11.2" inch Android tablet that was originally released in Q3 or Q4 2022 and Lenovo apparently still has a lot of new-in-box inventory of them. It has a similar processor to the iPlay, comes with 6GB RAM, and the screen is OLED 2560 x 1536 120Hz 😁. I just purchased one along with the Ipega PG-9777, which to my knowledge is the largest tablet controller available to purchase. I am looking forward to them arriving soon so that I can stream from my desktop PC to a nice, portable screen, as well as play a few emulators on OLED.
I tried the d9 on an 11 inch tablet and it's just as unstable. Those small areas to secure the tablet make it a bad choice. Otherwise I like the controller.
Yeah, personally not a fan of tablet gaming at all, it looks really tempting but once you start thinking about the price of tablet + controller it doesn't really make a lot of sense. I rather play on the switch or a steamdeck, which both offer a lot more for a similar size. Some specific touch game are really the main niche but then again i already have them on steam or on the switch. Maybe when we get even bigger phone or mainstream foldables i will jump back into this type of gaming.
The speaker really disappoints me. I dont use headphones often, and I dont want to be forced to have them on me everytime I pick up the tablet. I might go with the Lenovo Tab M9, even though it has a lower resolution and 4gb of RAM. Im only gonna use it for youtube, reading, and web browsing, so the better sound is more valuable than the higher resolution. And the extra RAM doesnt really benefit me unless I keep multiple things open at a time.
😄except for... PS5 remote play. Let's be fair, it gives you the best controller for that use case. But nothing else. And you'd better have good wifi with minimal other traffic, or else it's a nightmare. And a dark room
