Really comes down to your system, settings, and what apps you play imho. For me with a Q3/i913900k/rtx4090 I get the best results using my official link cable connected to my z790mb usb 3.2 type-c port. With flight and racing sims I get better distance clarity, fewer compression artifacts, and 7-10ms less latency compared to any wireless options. Other than sims I much prefer the freedom of being wireless. Properly setup I don’t see any significant differences between Air Link and Virtual Desktop. I mainly use Air Link but this is purely a personal preference thing. I will say that Virtual Desktop is much easier to setup because you don’t need to know how to properly use ODT or the meta link pc app device settings. Actually, Steam Link is even a bit easier so you may want to try that as well. In any case I’m glad you’ve found something that works well for you.

thanks for you video, Seeking advice from you:
I use Quest 3 + VD for wireless streaming to play DCS.
I've tried to lower the in-game settings of DCS,and currently, the frame rate and effects are basically satisfactory.
However, occasionally the 3D image on the Quest headset freezes while the image on the computer screen remains visible.
I have no choice but to force quit the game. It's very annoying, especially when trying to view the map with F10 during big missions.
I've already dedicated a great game wifi6 router for the computer and Quest headset, with the computer connected via Ethernet cable. It's confirmed to be a gigabit network.

I will hve to correct you there..
The Meta Link Cable IS a Type-C cable, But USB-C is JUST the connector. It doesn't say anything else about that cable. Similar to HDMI and DisplayPort.
The noodle-y bit itself is actually a Fibre Optic cable. and this is VERY important. In VR, a 5 meter cable is generally seen as the sweet spot, but a normal USB cable, one made of copper, generally craps out around 3 meters. There are manyways to solve this and one of which is turning that electrical signal into a laser and blasting that through a cable, this is much less prone to signal loss and keeps a lot of the integrity of that data.
The problem is... The price. THe Technology it self isn't cheap and you can easily mess this up, so buy a cheaper alternative may harm you more than do good. Personally, I would consider the 80 dollar price tag a mostly fair price. I would love to have seen them sell it for 60 dollars but it is Meta and as a company they still need money.

Oculus Link doesn't launch sometimes whilst Steam Link launches but the game only launches on my pc and most frequently both don't have any audio even though I have the Oculus Virtual Audio Device and Steam Streaming Speakers in my sound control panel. I will probalby buy VD and test it out and hope it works with my RX7600 and Ryzen 5 3600. I also bought a cable for VR so I hope I don't regret buying VD as I would've wasted more money.

For me Virtual Desktop consumes the least rescources on my PC, leaving more performance for the game. Steam Link also works pretty good, but it consumes more rescoureces and looks worse. I whish there were more options to fine tune in Steam Link.
I have my VD settings to where HL Alyx looks very sharp, runs on constant 72fps (I'm not having the best hardware, so 99% lag free is huge, most lags are during loading screens), and I can rarely see compression artefacts. I'm using Quest 2.
The downside is the bit more hastle you have to do to use VD. Sometimes I wanna play and put headset on, just to realise I haven't started VD on my PC. But then I can just use Steam Link to start VD and then switch to VD, without having to put the headset off my head. So having both things is nice. And if you don't wanna spend the money, I think Steam Links gets the job done.

I was a link cable user, but I started to use virtual desktop when I got the quest 3. My pc has an AMD gpu, and I use a simple 50$ wifi 6 router. I have around 40 ms of delay and I can say it's totally playable, you get used to the delay, it isn't really a disadvantage specially compared to the link cable. Link cable has a LOT of delay, it's not like a HDMI / display port vr headset. Link has around 25 ms of delay, to that you gotta add the game delay 3-5 ms more. So in total link has around the 30 ms of delay. Said this even on rhythm games at fast speeds you get used to it, I prefer virtual desktop now that I got used to it, as it's just faster to get started and it also has better visual quality than link cable (Even increasing the bitrate of the link cable, it looks kinda blurry compared with virtual desktop)

People sleep on the link cable for charging in my opinion. If you use the link cable (5 meters/16 feet cable) with the adapter that came in the box with the Quest 2/3, you can charge your headset even while you play. I have the link cable and I use virtual desktop to play wireless, until I'm low on battery and then it's time to use an incredibly long cable that keeps me flexible to play AND charge the headset. Something to keep in mind though is to use the Velcro strap to attach the cable to the bands of the Quest head strap, this will keep the usb-c connector and the quest usb-c port from being damaged by keeping the cable straight and not having it hang directly from the port.

I bought almost immediately VD when i got Q2 and it works very well. VD can even enable Snapdragon Upscaling option - you should do it - because it makes picture much sharper. Especially on Quest 3 you will see the sharpness more. Seperated WiFi router is very advised.
And if you bought VD for Q2, you can use it already for Q3. Still one price for all. Nice! Expect Pico need own VD.

Ya, I’ve been rocking with VD for +4yrs starting with my Q1. It even worked better than Link when it first came out. Both Link and Air Link have improved a lot over the last year or so imho. With my Q3 and QPro/rtx4090 I find I still get the best results with a link cable. Other than sims, I like wireless a lot better. With the right settings I don’t see any significant differences between VD and Air Link. So to me it really just comes down to personal preferences imho:

@@tomc1380 I stopped using Meta Airlink completely. Don't need it. VD and Steam (which don't seem to be too different when it comes to connectivity) are perfect solutions so there's no need at all for me to use air link (Plus I really hate the interface). ;)

@@Tensentities Ya, Air Link works as well for me with both my Q3 and QPro/rtx4090 as VD. All comes down to using the prope settings on both wireless options. To say that one is significantly better than the other is nonsense imho.
For sims, and some games that don't need a lot of moving around, Link at 650mbps encoding bitrate works a little better tham any wireless options. Better distance clarity, no significant compression artifacts, and lower latency.
