He may be the most interesting artist ever. Country didn't want him, rock didn't either and he wasn't folk. He was his very own thing. Amazing. To me he was a tropical country rock folk kinda artist. My point is he was his own and there will never be another anything like him.
That's very valid point. John Denver was a lot like that as well. I still miss him so much. Really though it's testament to both of them that they both had their own unique and really dedicated fan bases and they were both in the game so long. Genre is getting more and more fluid. It kind of proves what I have thought all along, it was contrived by radio and recording industry who needed to lump music into categories in order to showcase and sell it. Buuuut radio is dead. And albums are sold mostly digitally. Bands broker and promote their own music and the fans decide what they like without near as much business influence. It's about time. Let the artist do their art.
@@sebastianositaliano6360 oh yeah Prine too. Good call! I think the best fit for any of these guys was that singer songwriter thing. Jackson Browne. Tom Petty. John Mellencamp, Paul Simon. Jimmy Buffett’s quintessential song I believe. As a young songwriter, this song and many others are always meant to be played on the acoustic guitar, in a matter to tell a story through feeling and artistry. As stated in other comments, Jimmy routinely performs this song with different improvisations… always a good time, however this version may be the finest orchestration of lyric and instrument dynamically captured by modern recording methods…. Perfection. I love the purity, solemnness of this song and the picture it paints. I too identify with the story it tells, on many levels. Although I’ve heard it 1000 times never get tired of it… I cannot recall very many songs that achieve this. Jimmy Buffett’s Pirate at 40 is a gift to those us who understand and identify with the story. I don’t imagine Jimmy has all that many performing years left in him… and ultimately when Jimmy finally sets sail and leaves this planet, it will be a sad day for all of us, enjoy him while he’s still here! Well done, sir, a true artist and phenomenal songwriter.

Zac made Jimmy proud with that verse!!
There will never be a sound like Jimmy Buffett had! Outstanding ❤
Wow. Goosebumps....That was awesome...We lost a great soul and person....May his music live on forever....Love you Jimmy....
Such a great song. Love the harmonies here and the sparkle in Jimmy's eyes.
I’m gonna miss Jimmy Buffett so much. This is a great performance! I can’t believe Mac McAnally doesn’t even get a mention here! Another fantastic singer/songwriter! He wrote Chesney’s Down The Road and Sawyer Brown’s All These Years.
RIP Sailor!! Bubbles Up!!
There is just something about perfect beach music. I love listening to Jimmy Buffett while relaxing on the beach.
It’s perfect. So unique.
It's not just about the beach, but the comfortable culture that surrounds it. Vistas, waves, lack of modern noise, warm clear water, and a scant few others like yourself within view. I have lived this for most of 40 years and wouldn't trade it for the world. Peace.
RIP JIMMY!!! Spent some time out on those oceans, saw some of the most beautiful sunrises & sunsets I've ever seen. That was when I wasn't too tired from working the hours we worked at sea. Don't think when I ever go out on the water I won't somehow think of you and this song, as well as some others. As Bob Hope said Thanks for the memories! Fair winds & following seas Jimmy! FLY NAVY!!!
That might be the best thing I've ever heard.
Wonderful performance, love the song. Love the harmonizing. Jimmy had such pretty blue, expressive eyes.
Hello Joan
How are you?
Think of all the smiles he put on people’s faces through the decades. Family vacations at the beach playing JB, it’s beautiful. Forget about all your problems 👍👍
The most beautiful version of this lovely song. Fins up Jimmy.
Agree. Best version of this song ever!
My second-favorite Buffet song, right after He Went to Paris.
It is the unofficial “parrot head” anthem
"Now he lives in the islands, fishes the pilin's
And drinks his green label each day
He's writing his memoirs and losing his hearing
But he don't care what most people say
Through eighty-six years of perpetual motion
If he likes you he'll smile then he'll say
Jimmy, some of it's magic, some of it's tragic
But I had a good life all the way"
My retirement plans in Ocean Springs MS
@@smokespotter …..you know he ain’t singing about himself ……still it’s a nice retirement plan
Agreed. I go back and forth depending on my mood, but I think you nailed it. Love ALL Buffet, but He Went to Paris/Pirate Looks at 40 are #1/#2. Great comment.

Been one of my favorite for many years, and I turned 40, 25 years ago.
61 this past January ….parrorthead and a parakeet
I think there’s quite a few of us pirates in that boat of being well over 40 victims of fate. But what a great ride it’s been filled with great tunes. ✌️
Story of my life. Thank you.
My favorite Buffet song and also my favorite version of this song.
When the music hits one no pain for each of us .God bless.
I came to Brazil in 1976 to meet my now wife. This South Georgia boy brought 1 record with him, A white sport coat and a pink crustacean. I arrived in Rio a week ago and heard that Jimmy had passed. A sad irony. We all lost a friend. Thanks my friend for the memories that I’ll cherish forever.
Love Jimmy Buffett. Been to Margaretville in Key West more than once. Im 60 and feel like a landlocked pirate. Lol
ex-navy myself, me too

“If there's a heaven for me, I'm sure it has a beach attached to it” - Jimmy Buffett....I refuse to let myself get sad about the passing of the truly remarkable Jimmy Buffet cause I know he is sitting on that beach making even better music...Rest In Peace, thank you for providing the soundtrack of my life.
