The Eiffel Tower is to Paris the way the Empire State Building is to New York. Inseparable bonds. My grandfather visited Paris in 1929 and in almost every photo he took, the Eiffel Tower is plainly visible. I was there in 1978 and went all the way to the top of the tower.
It's not just that the view from the top was amazing: it was the first time people had seen the layout of Paris. Remember, this was before the airplane and most had never flown in the air. (A few had been in balloons.) It was a revelation to the visitors to see the entire design of the city laid out before them.

The origin of the iron of the Eiffel Tower Parisian since 1889, the Eiffel Tower, by its metal, comes from the Grand Est region, more precisely near Nancy in Lorraine! In 1887, Gustave Eiffel needed more than 7,000 tons of iron to make the centerpiece of the 1889 Universal Exhibition: he launched a call for tenders won by the Fould-Dupont forges of Pompey, in Meurthe-et-Moselle. The company of blast furnaces, forges and steelworks of Pompey supplied all the iron necessary for the construction of the Eiffel Tower and also took care of the puddling. Before being processed, the ore was directly extracted from local mines. Exactly 18,038 pieces of iron were produced by the Fould-Dupont forges for the Eiffel Tower. We can still see their "signature" plaque affixed to one of the pillars of the Tower today!
