Probably from lessons learned from the first Terminator SkyNet sent. (the eye scene in The Terminator 1984.)
This movie is terrific. James Cameron was on a hot streak when he made Aliens, Terminator, Titanic, and Terminator 2. He was directing with genius.
Now it's all about Blue people with boring stories, rubbish music, CG overload and bringing in 2+ billion. Cool I guess for him but this film was the very height of his excellence as a director, storyteller, human being. He's too old to care about something from 30+ years ago and he's a vegan now that's probably fucked up his brain also

I know the terminator being a good guy in T2 was supposed to be sort of a surprise reveal but the fact that he doesn’t kill anyone here and gets a cool song as he exits the scene made it pretty clear.
Normally it would be out of character given the how brutal the entrance of T1's T-800 was, but it makes sense in the context of T2's T-800 being deployed by the Resistance, that the modified programming to protect Connor may have already affected its general behavior before young Connor would reinforce the no-kill order onto the T-800 unit.
@@vinesauceobscurities yes, it all makes sense given what we later learn in the film. I’m referring to the experience of seeing it for the first time.
That’s an interesting perspective. It’s true that Arnold never went as dark as the first “Terminator” again. To anyone familiar with his image and filmography in general, him playing a villain, especially one that cold, truly stands out.

It's product placement. Companies give their stuff away and pay the studios to immerse whatever it is they want to market. It's why everyone on tv uses a mac computer, James Bonds various accoutrements, gadgets and car manufacturers are all paying top dollar for a few moments of screen time. Especially if the character using their product is "cool" like the Terminator. It can be well executed and seamlessly integrated into a plot or narrative like in this case, but can also be a little clunky and crass when crow-barred into a shot or conversation, out of obligation to some fast food corp for example. Even Anime movies and cartoons use product placement. Some animators have to draw replicas of the devices and clothing available in reality to advertise. It's trippy.

How about the first time Arnold and the T 1000 fought each other?
Did people think Arnold was the bad terminator again, and that Patrick was a resistance fighter?
Or did people think they both were evil?
@@richiefranklin76 it was pretty obvious by the tone of the movie that arnold was the good terminator at the very beginning. Also, you immediately see the new terminator killing people and had the evil smile way before he fights Arnold. Also, the trailers and media interviews showed all of that but i never considered that a spoiler because of the above reason. The spoiler/twist of the movie was the terminator learning how to be human then killing himself at the end of the movie. No one was really expecting that. It was really sad and had everyone tearing up, but then when he gave a thumbs up everyone laughed and clapped. That was completely kept hidden from the public so it had a huge impact at the end. Also, the death of Miles was unexpected as well.
I bet it was!!!
@Ed So When I saw T2 for the first time, I was sure Arnold is still the bad guy. The scene in mall hallway and „GET DOWN” left me shocked as hell...
Also, there were some teasers not revealing that Arnold is going to be the good guy. One that I remember: some explosions, few flashes of T800 shooting guns and then Arnold saying „I PROMISE I WILL NOT KILL ANYONE”. That was brilliant! 😆
I was born in 92. I saw this movie around 6 years old. This has been my top movie since then (2nd one is the departed). I wish I would've seen the T1 first now so I could have witnessed this twists how it was meant to. Regardless T2 still had a massive impact on me. Fucking love this film.
The first two Terminator movies are incredible.
And the only two good ones
Only 2, the rest are trash
Only genesis and dark fate were bad imo. They actually had no idea left to refresh the franchise or make it better

One small detail I never even noticed until now is that he steals the bike and drives it away into the night without ever turning on its headlight... which makes sense when you consider a T-800 could see in the dark just fine.

@@theamazingspiderwuss4236 That's why they have T-1000 and T-X
Funnily enough, this is actually one of the intelligence operative's approaches to "blending in". To do the contrary, to send someone who looks extremely out of place, uncommon. Visual clues tend to attract people, so they will remember more of how the person looked like than what he was after. The fact you are asking this is another pro to this method - "they wouldn't send someone so obvious, right?" is the question frequently asked.
In fact, one of the most well-known sucessful CIA foreign operations (I think there is even a movie about it) was to during Iran hostage crisis send a whole team of Americans acting like Hollywood movie makers to the Tehran. They were all white, loud, photographed everything incessantly, clothed in obvious western style and generally acted obnoxious. They went repeatedly through police checks, so later during the operation, local police already knew them and didn't really bothered about checking them again. Operation was success and their cover was blown only after they were out of Iran.
Damn. Terminator is bad ass. Stole glasses just to wear them - at night.
It's cool but it always confused me. He wore the glasses in the first film to cover his wounded eye, so it never made much sense to me in this scene. Still an iconic look tho, incomplete without the glasses.

That man who confronted Terminator at the end is awesome. He tried to stop the “evil”, gave only a warning but not a death blow, even if he couldn’t kill it. Also he had an awsome pair of sunglasses.
Part of me thinks Terminator respected him for taking a stand, and thus let him live by only taking his shades. Great scene.
