I wish we could see them play at the same age of 20. Chess grandmasters are always on the younger side. By the time they hit 40s- 50d they get overtaken by someone younger. Chess is a young man's game
The thing is, it isn't fun being the number one in the world and it's a lot more stressful. Anyone can play against you, and if they lose, who cares. But if they win, it's a whole different story. It's easier to play when you have nothing to lose Also, they played 3 games against Magnus in this event. Kasparov won 2, drew 1. This video only showed the one they drew, for obvious reasons
something wrong with this video, it appeared that kasparov thinkin too much and magnus just starring at him walking around etc.. but look at the clock, kasparov had more time than magnus!!

What hasn't been shown is that Magnus Carlsen lost to Kasparov in a blitz game before this one. And he lost to Kasparov in the very next rapid game and was eliminated. Although very impressive draw against the greatest considering he is only 13!
That's true, but at 13 he was probably expected to lose all three games. He was already probably playing at GM strength even if he didn't yet have the title though.
@@ekie7473 I don't know about that. It's hard to say. He might have been able to perform better than most grandmasters already here, but it's hard to know that. Was an amazing accomplishment to get a draw vs Garry at this age. I wish they played in the same era. The two GOATS in my eyes.
@@varadsalunkhe9008 Yeah obviously. Garry's older now and not nearly as good as anyone in the top 50. Even Garrys prime he would lose to Magnus. The current number 1 player is always better than a number 1 player from the past, but that doesn't always mean they're the GOAT.
In that time Magnus family were financially struggling his dad sold his car so he can buy plane tickets to tournament, probably his mother mixed orange TANG with water and used an empty pespi bottle , now magnus Annual salary from playing chess almost two million dollars
This type of thinking is not only not true, but also counter-productive. Few people work so hard on chess as Carlsen. Only talent is never enough. Hard work is much more important.
@@Alex-02 I understand that. But I think it was still important to point that out - we have different people in comments, some of them might be young. We don't want them to think less of themselves or that there is no point in trying (because they are not Carlsen), do we?
At 3:13 an hilarious signature move was in the making And Kasparov shaking his head in shock is one of the most epic moments in any chess game I've ever seen
Or he was shaking his head to clear the cobwebs … from doing shots and partying with hookers until 3am the night before and regretting it. That’s my interpretation.
Y’all gotta understand that Kasparov as a grandmaster has everything to lose here and Magnus a 13 year old boy still has much ahead of him and no pressure would be on him at this point. (It’s been a year and people still are commenting. I’m not so entitled as to read each of these comments, and I’m sure everyone makes a good point. Also probably my most liked comment ever, so that’s pretty neat. In this year since I last commented I’ve learned a lot, and been through a lot. I’d like to share one of the valuable lessons I learned in life. And that is always, always, always speed up playback of any content if at all possible. Netflix on mobile has 1.5x as max (it’s not 2x but it works), RUclips at 2x, and whatever else you might use. /// 12/06/22)
Why would you assume that people don’t understand that Kasparov has everything to lose? That’s very obvious. It’s like a heavyweight boxer fighting a lightweight.
Not really. Kasparov was in a similar position when he was young. When you're a chess prodigy, you're always supposed to be beating 50 years old players when you're a teenager. Also maybe he was late because he had intestinal problems or the cab was slow or a million other issues
I was the best in my school by far. We had a dedicated chess class in school and I was better than the teacher. One day they brought in another class. Just Kids. Like 10 year Olds (I was 18 at the time) I couldn't beat one of them. It's been 10 years and I'm still humbled from that day.
kasparov looked flustered and defeated before starting. not sure if it was tactics to unsettle magnus, but i loved the standing up and turning his back boss move on kasprov
At 3:11 The colors are switched, whoever made this video was biased towards magnus as they cut out huge portions of 2 games and put into 1 video. Also, when they shake hands there are 2 shots 4:03 & 4:04. First Magnus has black, then he has white, he actually lost 1 game. Very Deceptive...
Let's be honest, the pressure Kasparov has had his entire life is insanely unhealthy. No-one should be subjected to the expectation to win every time he plays.
Magnus has that same pressure right now. Every world champion is expected to win every single game they play. When magnus lost his first classical game in over 400 days people talked about it for weeks. I don't understand the point you are making
The best part is that this is exactly what Magnus does now, arrives late, messes with all his pieces and takes his time. I am sure we watched the origin of where he got it from.
Since this is verified, I suppose it's going to explode, so This a 3 game. Kasparov won 2 games against Magnus, this one Magnus managed to make it draw (which is impressive for a 13 year old against world champion)
@@youwantmyname9208 adult magnus has said that he choked this game which is even more impressive and the analysis checks out, he was winning, he tricked k in the opening and was building advantage until he let it slip even tho it was within his ability, it makes sense, he didn't think he could beat k in the first place
