Thank you for this comment. So many people sing the songs with no true idea of where this country stood when it was written. A young country that was facing another attack by the British wanting their colonies back. Nothing was guaranteed at that time due to the strength of the British empire and could we prevail in the War of 1812. Our White House had been burned down, harbors and borders crossed. When the lyrics “oh say does that star spangled banner still wave” has meaning behind it. People too often sing it with a sense of arrogance and often over the top singing completely missing the mark behind the significance of the words in those lyrics. There was a sense of fear and trepidation. My favorite rendition is Marvin Gaye singing the song in 1983 at the NBA all star game.
I think this is my 1000 time listening to this.....gets me fired up every time. If you don't get emotional listening to this then you don't love America.

I never thought there would be another moment close to Whitney... this is by far the best since hers and, depending on your taste in music, maybe this even tops it.
This rendition just hits so different. We're so used to hearing power vocals sing this (i.e., Whitney, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce, etc.) that Stapleton's laid-back version felt like a breath of fresh air and a welcome change. Very simple, sincere, with a touch of country soul. Well done.

This was one of my favorite renditions of the National Anthem. But I am sure Chris Stapleton respects the "over the top" performances with "flashy notes" just as much as his own. They are artists. Artists are not supposed to sound alike. MOST people like to experience different entertainment. Whitney and Jennifer Hudson's rendition with the flashy notes was just as beautiful as Chris with the humble voice and a guitar. 🇺🇲
I have no words. This man is awesome. Stapleton and his guitar, nothing else is needed. I am not American, I am European, from Spain, but in this moment I swear I feel American... I respect you and your traditions. With love from Spain to USA.
I feel you. I'm European, too; and with all the sh*t going on overseas it's been hard to watch the former great country that we used to look up to collapse into the state it's in now. But in moments like this.. I remember how I felt as a child when I sincerely thought the USA was the greatest place on earth. I would be very proud to be an American in moments like this.
Spain and America oppressed, exploited and destroyed countries around the world, but you gotta respect how they forget their beastly behavior when they sing their national anthems.
As an Italian, this interpretation gives me chills, even if I'm not American it gives me an immense sense of patriotism, as immense is the talent of Chris
I’m not a country music fan at all- I’m a metal head, but he is insanely talented. This has to be one of the best renditions of the national anthem ever. One of the things that I loved most about it was that he made it about the song rather than using it as just an opportunity to show off his talent.
@@801MOTO3 he is a country artist. bluegrass is the music of Kentucky where he was born and raised that combined with it’s mountain music in the east of the state was what eventually made its way to the country music you hear in Nashville. The classiest, best timed National Anthem performance in a very long time. Thank you Chris Stapleton, for doing it for us, instead of yourself.
If you can’t feel that performance you musta not been listening. Almost 1 year later and I still listen to his golden voice bring OUR song to life. No orchestra, no back up singers. Just Chris and his guitfiddle.
Hooah
As somebody who loves when R&B singers put their spin on it, Chris ATE on this!!!!! 🔥🔥🔥 Hands down the best country and blues singer we got right now 🙌🏿
R&B will always have my heart as well. But I love Chris Stapleton rn, so much soullll 😊
I agree. Very soulful

RUclips him singing a man's world. Chris is just a great singer period
We must discard evil and store up good. Those who do not may be reborn into this world.
His performance of the anthem was one of the best ever. He sang from his heart and the whole stadium sang the last few words with him. Ppl have commented on social media that they didn't like him without his hat on but I feel like he did that out of respect for the anthem. Thank you, Chris.
That's exactly why. Because the man has respect for his country and it's anthem.
You are right. You DON'T wear a hat while singing this. God bless.
Anybody who's reaction is to judge Chris for his long-haired appearance without the hat is probably not that interesting of a person.
@@sotthapana who are you again?
It’s a shame it was ruined with the “black” anthem afterwards. Guess America’s anthem is for all Americans, except them.

No auto tune, no lip syncing, no fancy recording tricks, no orchestra. Just a guy with an amazing voice and his guitar. Brilliant.
I never thought there would be another moment close to Whitney... this is by far the best since hers and, depending on your taste in music, maybe this even tops it.
I swear those 2 did it with such ease but put so much heart and power into it
This, Whitney, boys 2 men top 3 greatest national anthem performances of all time in my opinion. They make me emotional and I’m not even American
SURE !!!
Whitney number one and he’s definitely number 2
No topping Whitney, she had unmatched power. But this was amazing.
One of the best renditions of OUR ANTHEM, right up there with Whitney’s ‘91 masterpiece.🇺🇸
I thought of Whitney too.
Natalie grant 2022....was very good also
Whitney’s still the best
Who?
I said the same thing, he is in my top 5 . No one is dethroning Whitney Houston ( the Goat) but he was up pretty high for me.
Well done.
Chris certainly has power
I've heard too many that were awful renditions too.
He’s voice is powerful
💯
Well said!

I believe this was the purest and most moving rendition of the National anthem I have ever heard.
Whitney is right there also.
Whitney Houston
This was amazing.
No over the top performance.
No flashy tones.
Just a man with his guitar singing his nation’s song…
This was one of my favorite renditions of the National Anthem. But I am sure Chris Stapleton respects the "over the top" performances with "flashy notes" just as much as his own. They are artists. Artists are not supposed to sound alike. MOST people like to experience different entertainment. Whitney and Jennifer Hudson's rendition with the flashy notes was just as beautiful as Chris with the humble voice and a guitar. 🇺🇲
AMEN
Amen.

Love you my brother
Thank you, I’m American, and I rarely feel patriotic, but this performance wakes up something within me

This can't get anymore american and I absolutely love it. About time we had one of our best country artists sing our anthem. God bless America.
I am not American, but I really envy the respect you have for your flag and anthem. The performance was really emotional.

I’m not a country music fan at all- I’m a metal head, but he is insanely talented. This has to be one of the best renditions of the national anthem ever. One of the things that I loved most about it was that he made it about the song rather than using it as just an opportunity to show off his talent.
True: his talent is stunning.
I wouldn't really say he's a country artist. More of a mix of bluegrass and rock.
@@801MOTO3 Definitely a blues artist.
@@801MOTO3 he is a country artist. bluegrass is the music of Kentucky where he was born and raised that combined with it’s mountain music in the east of the state was what eventually made its way to the country music you hear in Nashville. Now combine that with the gospel music he grew up with and some blues progressions. It’s still country. He’s versatile but listen to his actual albums. People don’t like saying he’s country cause they don’t wanna say that they like country music lol but it’s what it is at it’s roots the guy hails from the bluegrass state
that's the difference between a patriot ,and a schill .
Normally I don’t enjoy a more interpretive style of singing this song; usually I’m the guy saying “sing the song as it was written.” But this? This was spectacular. Genuinely one of the best I’ve ever heard.
I agree. Most of the time it's self-serving indulgence. But this was pride and emotion pouring out of a human. He kept an artful pace, and he hit every note. Well done rendition that really had me feeling something.

It's him and Whitney Houston. noone else can compare imo.
He's better than whitney at this. More expression
@LondonBrazilianDancers absolutely not.
@@garyco766 lmao "without competition"??? Let's start with one simple fact. She didn't sing it "live" there was a LOT of back tracking and prerecorded parts of the hardest notes being hit by her. It was her voice prerecorded or not but I think if the national Anthem isn't 100% raw and live it can't even be considered as one of the best. Gotta be willing to take the chance of standing in front of the entire world to be the greatest. Honestly she didn't do the best job lyp synching some of the parts
I think this guy could sing anything, he should have performed the halftime show too
I'm hoping they'll consider him for next year. He showed them that he could perform and move a large crowd without a lot of bells and whistles. Everything is so over the top now, it'd be good to see a little more soul and grit in the half-time show and a little less crotch grabbing. Rihanna looked amazing though and you never in a million see me that high up in the air on a platform pregnant or otherwise!
