I'm from Brazil and I love Mearsheimer ❤️
I came to know about Mearsheimer after the breakout in Ukraine. He earned the credits for his lectures predicting what was going to happen.
After that, he could be just quiet & satisfied with his carrer, but he decided to come with an impressive way of analyzing the Palestine-Israel issue.
    It shocked me.
It was really bold & original and I had to see what this guy was about.
And what I came to know is really a formidable thinker & remarkable person.
His capacity of making counter-hegemonic analysis that prove to be correct afterwards & expose his thoughts with great clarity and honesty is really unparalleled.

He was and still is so wrong about Ukraine though.
He said Russia would have a quick victory, they didn't.
He said we shouldn't support Ukraine because they didn't stand a chance, two years and more than half a million killed and injured Russians say otherwise.
He is wrong about the interest of foreign countries, as seen per the judgement and actions of professional diplomats from Japan to Estonia, to the USA.
He is wrong about the causes of the Ukraine war too. I'd love to explain but it just doesn't fit in a RUclips comment.
His analysis of what happened, his theories about why, his advice for what to do, it's all wrong. He might call his theory realism, but it has little to do with reality.

Now with Trump 2nd term, it looks like it will go more on the way Mearsheimer predicted. I do not support Putin and he is a brutal dictator, but it is looking at a situation as is, but not as I wish it to be. For example, can you stop China's annexation of Tibet, no. Another example, North and South Korea could have fought forever, but now they stopped fighting at the demilitarized zone.

No. He’s a man desperately trying to get reality to agree with his theory. Fact is, control over Ukraine may be important to Putin’s survival as a dictator, but it’s irrelevant to Russia’s survival, thanks to its huge nuclear arsenal. Of course, seeing him irresponsible Russia is about using its power, destroying Russia as a major power needs to be a primary focus of Western policy. Or should have been, before we elected a Russian asset to the Presidency last week.

It's worse for the Palestinians. For starters, their occupiers don't speak the same language. Secondly, the British didn't have the support of the international community that was built to protect human rights but then closes its eyes when it comes to the injustices of Palestine. Third, their occupiers migrated from a completely different land.

@@shawnshahpari8681you forget that the Irish struggle was over a period of 800 years, at the beginning of which the Irish had a different language and culture. It wasn't until the 1600s and the Protestant Reformation that religion became an issue and the introduction of the Penal Laws against Catholics started the disintegration of Irish society and sinking of the majority of the population. It wasn't until the 1820s, and the introduction of the national school system that English started to become the language of the majority of the people in Ireland.

As an Ideology, Nationalism is more powerful than religion in context of Fukuyama's and huntington's hypothesis from the articles end of the history and clash of civilization.
He talks that narrative matters in Politics and Policy making. But he also said that public opinion cannot compel America's to withdraw its support for Israel no matter what.

Fukuyama is a real hero of our time. Strictly speaking, all his pseudo-scientific prophecies turned out to be nonsense, but nevertheless he is crowned with glory as a rock star. A wonderful example of the current state of socio-political science.

I always was offended by Iran calling the United States, "The Great Satan". Now I'm starting to understand why they used this label.

As someone in "the West", specifically the US, I always listen to Dr. Mearsheimer. His analyses regarding Ukraine, Israel, etc., have been quite accurate for years.

This is easily one of Mearsheimer's best statement of his framework with a particular focus on the Middle East, that I have listened to. He didn't get too deep into the various calculus of the balance of power in the ME, presently and going forward, or on the weight the present conflict Israel-Gaza-Lebanon is perhaps affecting US ability to act elsewhere, given its finite resources.
The ME is only one theatre for US policy, after all, and by all accounts there are bigger fish to fry. China, in particular, probably doesn't mind that the US is stuck in the ME.
I'm sure he could get into those issues, time permitting.
