Trees can live anywhere from less than 100 years to more than a few thousand years depending on the species. However, one species in particular outlives them all. The Great Basin Bristlecone Pine (Pinus longaeva) has been deemed the oldest tree in existence, reaching an age of over 5,000 years old. From google
It's called forest management. The largest, old-growth trees are cut to make way for smaller trees, and to prevent a forest floor from becoming a hot-bed for forest fires. Trees are a renewable resource.
@@markjones6096 While trees are a renewable resource, the video didn't explain why he was cutting it down. I've been doing tree work and selling firewood for 30 years, but this has nothing to do with preventing the forest floor from being a hotbed for forest fires! The Forest Service and logging companies make lots of money selling old growth timber.... Weyerhauser was allowed to destroy the entire upper Midwest cutting virtually all the white pine across numerous states up to 5' in diameter... Alaska has numerous clear cut areas that have nothing to do with forest mgmt... It's about making money, pure and simple......

@@gpotts212 Wrong. When you destroy something 1000 years old, you are destroying something that is not yours. It is our collective environment. These Old-growth forests are irreplaceable. They host a diversity of wildlife that you're not going to get on a tree farm.
Before chainsaws loggers used springboards and long hand saws pulled by a lumber jack on each end. The springboards were typically placed well above ground so that they didn't have to saw an additional foot or two of diameter of trunk buttress. If that tree wasn't dead, and I saw green leafs on it as it fell, then we had ABSOLUTELY no business cutting it down.
You were there?
The business is logging.
I'm a greenie mate trees can have green leaves and be dead . Moisture in a trunk plus sections of sucrose in pockets of pulp can prolong the appearance of a living tree but truly tree feling of this size mostly involves an arborists prognosis about best cutting methods. This looks legit about a year removal for forest health not environmental vandalism. Trees struck by lightning shatter upper structure of the tree and snap half down trunks that get eaten or infested by termites , while we still use timber this is the better option. I was hurt by such logging untill I researched best practices.

Trees can live anywhere from less than 100 years to more than a few thousand years depending on the species. However, one species in particular outlives them all. There's some edge on that chain
The inventor of the chainsaw has much to answer for.
You've got a good point there.
Chainsaws were created for childbirth surgeries not cutting down trees so not really
Before chainsaws loggers used springboards and long hand saws pulled by a lumber jack on each end. The springboards were typically placed well above ground so that they didn't have to saw an additional foot or two of diameter of trunk buttress. Old farms in the Pacific Northwest and I am sure other places as well had stumps 8 foot or more in height. As a youth I built a tree fort on top of one such stump. Enough log left to build a small house.

@@romans116spiritualwarrior7 - "Jim T yeah so save the trees not the unborn? "
Nope. That is absolutely NOT what I said AT ALL. You're erroneously inferring that.
I firmly believe that the majority of abortions are an absolutely abhorrent form of birth control.
I simply stated that god, the almighty creator of the universe and everything in it, above anyone, should set the example when it comes to the value of human life. But he doesn't. A superior being that allows unborn children to perish in the womb, or an innocent young child to suffer and perish from a terrible disease, or at the hands of an adult, is worse than anyone cutting down a tree like that. So you see, I'm actually the one that values human life more than god does.
I've given time and resources to children's charity's, to the homeless, to people affected by disasters. Never, once, did I see god, the almighty creator of the universe and everything in it, there repairing the damage he could have prevented in the first place.
That's why I refuse to believe and will go to my grave refusing to believe rather than worship a monster.
Hope that clears it up for you.
Merry Christmas.
