13:59 Fun fact about that 1984 map: Mondale only won Minnesota by just under 4,000 votes out of a total of over 2 million votes cast. Mondale won it at 49.72% to Reagan's 49.54%. By the grace of just under 4,000 people, Mondale was spared the indignity of losing all 50 states in a presidential election.
But NOBODY mentions what else Mondale won. He won those 3 electoral votes the dems have gotten in EVERY election since the dems gave Washington DC 3 electoral votes in 1961!! @@darrahhopper6437 more like Democrats acted like Republicans and are surprised why Democrats didn't vote for them. Trump got around what he did in 2020, Harris is the one who is missing 10 million voters.
I think even THAT irked a LOT of Republicans. In their minds, they're struggling paycheck to paycheck and these virtue signaling, gender fluid, pronoun tagging, blame white people for everything, telling us how to live (re climate change, green energy, eat kale and beans instead of beef) liberals have a billion dollars of pocket change to toss around.
Yeah the people who have literally gotten everything wrong for decades are like "now let me tell you what you did wrong- from my high tower in my versailles breakfast nook in the sky" they are all as responsible if not moreso than trump himself.
That's been straight out of the Democratic playbook for ages. Create a problem, and then try to convince voters that we need them to fix it. Do you really think the Democrats want the issue of Abortion settled? Of course not. There would be one less topic to argue about that needs fixing by them. Trump already fixed it by giving the issue back to the states, but they don't want that. The same as school shootings, and the border. The last thing they want is for those issues to go away.
I'm seeing a lottt of democrats going back to the way they are perhaps in their more natural settings or even in years past where they were able to be more themselves. Even AOC seems more normal, I think humbled is the word.
No one voted for Kamala in the DNC primary. She lost hard in 2020. Few months before Joe Biden dropped out the media was talking about how horrible Kamala was and should of been removed.
After Barrack Obama ran out of terms, DNC forgot that president is supposed to be a leader and started pushing zero charisma bureaucrats like Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris. Donald Trump is running on almost pure charisma. If they wanted a female president, then obvious candidate would be AOC since she has charisma.
It was woke. No, it was not part of the campaign. It was just shoved in their face for the last four years. It’s actually from a CNN segment where Scott argued that the shifts in young men and their parents were from low opportunity for men at the moment. Gaza, Ukraine, abortion and trans issues are less important when nothing else is going right in your life.
@gafee2001 I have a young son gaming in the basement.. I know exactly what he's talking about.. I guess I'm lucky my son doesn't vape 🤣 true is many young men are wasting their time on video games.. while the Ukraine refugees find opportunities as soon as they get here.. As an Englishman I wonder why Democrats and Republicans only ever go as low as the middle class. I'd hate to be a poor working class American, I wouldn't even exist to these people.
Americans don’t consider themselves “working class” they consider themselves middle class even when they are working class. It’s just marketing. Trump won the white working class. Democrats still won minority working class but by smaller margins
Your comment encapsulates the problem with legacy media. The fact that there is no difference between Jon Stewart on Comedy Central and "professional journalists" on network and cable TV.
An important issue indirectly highlighted by this material is that the Democrats tried to win by simply saying what they thought people wanted to hear. However, in the end, they disregarded the very people they were supposed to represent. They focused on the tools and means to secure victory, rather than on the "customers"-the American people. This is yet another example of why you cannot rely on politics; politicians do not care about you, only about your vote, and they will humiliate themselves in any way to get it.
The rest of us will be resisting for 4 years. That may not sound like a long time but hey, neither was the Confederacy. And we still haven't heard the end of them.

At the behest of the corporate owners of the Daily Show. Who were trying to repeat 2016 and double down on the real lie.
yes he's cool, but he's wrong about 1980, 1980 was a different time. where there was no cnn, msnbc and others all for dems. and teachers didn't groom students to be dem. so this is worse.
This segment was laughably wrong. The state race commercials he showed won in those states. And what was being pushed by dems on social media (where his channels are) was all the woke identity polotics. I can't believe someone ok'd this segment.

Exactly! Did they really think they could govern from the far left for years then switch, at the end of the race, to being gun toting border hawks who love the local police and expect the voters to buy that????
This happens in a lot more areas than politics. When giving an engineering estimate there is a very wide margin of error... just way too many unknowns (often fundamental project goals are unknown). But the number itself and not the range or margin of error is what sticks. How could this project be 50% over budget? Easy, the estimate had a 4x margin of error at the time, we are well within initial estimates. That doesn't fly, but it is the truth.
@@robertide5182depends on how well the project is specced, how many times the customer changes their mind, how late in the project do they figure out what they really want….its more common than you would think.
Exactly, I don't know where this talk of a total blowout is coming from in the media, in the electoral college it was decisive. But each of the swing states was won by like 1 or 2 points. The popular vote currently is a 50-48 split. Ignoring the 2 seat they were expected to lose, dems lost 1, maybe 2, senate seats. They re on track to maybe lose only a couple of house seats. Sure dems lost a lot of support (that's why they lost), but this still looks statistically like the race we knew we were getting going into the election (a 50-50 race with a 3% margin of error), just on the disappointing end of the spectrum of possibilities.
And this is why, even if it is only for 15 hours for the year. I’m so grateful to Jon for coming back to the Daily Show. When I’m feeling lost and wondering what I’m going to have to do to redefine my reality, he reminds me (and everyone else), that this isn’t new, that we’ve been here before and we’ve survived it. We don’t know what the future holds, but that means we can change it. Thank you Jon. It may not be the present I want, but I can hold on and live through to fight for a better tomorrow.
I thought we were a total goner after 2000, I didn't think there was any media that was telling the truth. I didn't discover Stewart until 2004. I couldn't believe such a thing existed. I thought I was going to get arrested for resisting the fascist machine for watching. I though Stewart was going to get arrested the minute they saw him telling the truth. I guess they figured they'd just drown the comedians out with the rest of their media, which is almost all of it. It seems to be working.
@@ricksurratt9034 I think that's basically over. The dems were kicked out of any majority. They were the ones secretly censoring, misinforming, and bullying through big tech & manipulating media & using the courts. That is done now. They lost.

This election is the result of stuff that's been building up since 2014. And 2) It has become totally cliché to not believe the values you were raised with, so I'll say it: I was raised Mormon. I'll die Mormon.
Can you explain what exactly happened after listening to Jon Stewart? He made fun of everyone else's theories but really didn't have much of a clear answer.
I live in Pittsburgh and that knocking on the door bs drove me INSANE! We have a newborn but also they were extremely persistent! Looking in windows and coming back over and over. Even if you talked to them and someone else used that address before, they would return to talk to a person that hasn't lived there for years!
It's a shame. They were only trying to protect your welfare and healthcare but sure complain. When your baby grows up to ask why they have less than people living in Poland, you can tell them you discouraged volunteers trying to protect their future.

@geneanthony3421 quite hard to predict that 7 million woman that voted for Biden wouldn't bother turning out and 1 million that voted Biden would switch to Trump. While despite all the talk of Rogan the male vote was pretty much the same as last time.
@@donaldfarquar I live in rural PA and I've seen how perception has changed here over the last few years. A lot of people who were Democrat are now Republican. For a lot of women, it came down to the transgender stuff as well as immigration. It was a threat to their safety. I also think people are underestimating what happened with schools during Covid. Parents were seeing what was being taught to their kids (due to Zoom calls) and it woke a lot of people up. A lot of people supported Biden because they thought it was a return to normalcy and were tired of the drama with Trump. That didn't happen and as time went on people thought the Trump years were better. The democrats lost that demographic as well. The ridiculous part is they think that Biden could have won. He had historically low approval ratings before he dropped.
@geneanthony3421 People have always tended to swing to the republicans as they get married and have kids or older and more successful. Generally, it balances out with old people likey to vote republican dying and young people turning 18 likely to vote democrat. Probably a mix of the things you mentioned and others caused the swing. My point was more the left blaming men and the right congratulating men, when the the male vote was incredibly stagnant. It was woman that voted Biden and told the polls they would vote Harris that either didn't vote or, to a lesser extent, voted for Trump. Seems really difficult to have seen coming, whoever you thought would win.
@@donaldfarquar I agree with you regarding historical trends, but the data showed that Kamala lost with every age demographic outside of baby boomers. The only group that they performed better with is people making over $100K a year supposedly. Maybe I'm biased because of where I live, but I expected Trump to win easily and I also saw him winning in 2016 (2020 felt different). I couldn't see Democrats winning after Republicans started busing in thousands of immigrants into their cites (giving them a taste of being a border state), the indifference to crime in some areas, the homelessness problem, the Covid overreach, the push for men in women's sports and giving kids hormone blocking drugs and still seeing people support the party. Democrats are tonedeaf to what's wrong with their party and I don't think they'll truly see what's wrong until they start to talk to people who left their party. This guy is still in the club.

Votes are still being counted. The popular vote gap will continue to shrink. I think people are still mentally thinking about the outcome based on vote totals from last Wednesday morning. The key battle ground states are still going to be within ~ 1.5 points and Harris will only be behind in popular vote by a similar margin. California still has about 20% of their votes to count, and if the same Cali margin holds up then Harris will have a net +750k in popular vote left to add. When everything is finalized it's not gonna be nearly as close as 2016 and 2020 but those were historically narrow across multiple states. MI/WI/PA are still within the margin of error on outcome. Don't let the razor thin vote margins from the last two elections affect analysis of this one.

An important issue indirectly highlighted by this material is that the Democrats tried to win by simply saying what they thought people wanted to hear. However, in the end, they disregarded the very people they were supposed to represent. They focused on the tools and means to secure victory, rather than on the "customers"-the American people. Pollsters for months: "Polls have a 3% margin of error"
The Media "Who could have seen this 50% to 48% result coming?!? Why were the polls wrong?!?"
Its funny because 3% of our nation is 10 million people. That’s an entire state in “error”.
@@username7763 If your estimates have a 4x margin of error you need to get a better estimator.

I think, bc I was in high school & college during Bush Jr’s 1st term and we all watched Jon to guide us and bring much needed levity, and so he’s been like this paternal buffer btwn my generation and the scary, uncertain and/or inane world of politics our whole adult lives, that he plays a very special role in our hearts and minds.
Meh
Cool story bro
😂😂😂😂😂😂 who are these people
Resistance to what? Most Americans wanted what they voted
Yes we will all used to be democrats dude, the only problem with you is you haven't woken up and you re still on that side, these numbers for Trump is not just republicans it's people like me.
There's nobody better than Jon Stewart and all the brilliant writers at the Daily Show during wild political times.
if you want brilliant writers, head over to gutfeld! for a couple nights.
Uh, it’s called Last Week Tonight, helmed by the guy that should’ve succeeded Jon back in ‘15.
exactly
There was no wokesht. Trumpers made it up.
He's so fake
"I'm here Mondays" - the delivery is why I've been watching Jon since I was recording and sharing TDS with my friends in the VHS days just after Kilborn left.
WOW, 🎉
I'm in Kenya, and I used to wait late in the night to watch The Daily Show on international CNN, yes, they used to air it for some reason back in the day.
You got that on a torrent?
Just after Kilborne left it was Bush era
Killborn? You mean what they're doing in Ohio according to his majesty, Donald Trump?
I hit $113k today. Thank you for all the knowledge and nuggets you had thrown my way over the last months. Started last month 2024. Financial education is indeed required for more than 70% of the society in the country as very few are literate on the subject.
It's essential for you to have a mentor to keep you accountable. Myself, I'm guided by Evelyn Vera. for years and highly recommend her I focus on him. To be honest, I almost didn't buy the idea of letting someone handle growing my finance, but so glad I did.
I would really love to know how much work you did put in to get to this stage.
Wow! wow! please is there any way to reach her services?
Yes, I have her WHAT'SAPPS digits

I love how Jon Stewart is the only person in the press who has any idea of what the actual problems are. The rest of the press is completely out of touch.
The people that pay them also pay politicians on both right wing parties. They are controlled opposition.
ur so dumb lol
They are paid to act dumb
They get paid millions to promote talking points, even if true, are just that, talking points.
Anderson Cooper gets paid $20M a year for an audience less than that from some rando online.
Morning Joe himself was caught off guard because butter costs more than $3. He asked if it came framed in gold.
That's because he's not in the press: He's a comedian.
At age 80 I can say unequivocally that my vote has never been swayed by a political ad, TV, Radio, mailers, etc.
Maybe not, but advertising is effective. You've likely chosen which products to buy based off of ads without realizing it.
I bet it has, you just don't know it
Did you vote for Trump?
The only way to ensure that’s true is to not vote!
How would you possibly know who to vote for without knowing who the candidates are and what they stand for.
Man the daily show is back… Jon you are one of the few that get it…
This is the Jon Stewart I know and love.
I never once saw a Harris campaign ad that wasn't asking for more money.
And the number of texts I got after a single donation - was really annoying.
Billion dollars well spent. 🙄
The lesson: don't donate your money to the government when you're already taxed.
@@PseudoNym100agreed! I voted for her but she ain’t getting none of my money. We all struggling lol
@@aliciageary7653 true that. Vote for whomever but since candidates can raise, as we know because Kamala bragged about it, $1 billion+ for campaigns stop donating to politicians. Maybe donate to local runners, but not federal.
@@aliciageary7653you donated to get Trump elected by landslide, in my opinion that is money well spent.
Just a note: Communists get their money by pulling it from the rich class, until the rich class is poor. Then everyone is poor.
“With whatever money is leftover”
Yeah. That didn't even start to age and it already stonk!! They are in debt!!! 😮😂😂😂
Yeah someone didn't get the memo that her campaign is $20 million in debt. She scrubbed everything off her campaign website except the donate button. 😂
They burned through the $1 billion plus in less than 4 months at a rate of $10 million a day, came out of the other end with $20 million in the hole and lost all swing states. Let that sink in…Is this the candidate or party you want to manage your country and your economy?
imm sure most of that campaign money was already lining their pockets and not towards campaigning
I wonder how the Harris campaign paid consultant Cardy B.
Thank you, Jon. Sincerely.
The real daily show ❤
GREAT INTRO!!! Thank you for looking after our beloved vets. 🤗❤️🇺🇸
Well he is only 1 doing it!!
Jon’s probably like… why did I just sign for another year. Haha. Love you Jon!
Jon's A republican. Just like most Americans... the man gets paid to act like he's on the left
At least we'll REALLY be needing him for that year.
Its a shame. He won't be able to focus on so many important issues because he has to focus on putting out this enormous dumpster fire
Oh no he has to stay thru the end of Drumpf’s 2nd term (if there is a end)
@@IndigoBellyDance ..... until the end of his 3rd term

;_;
maybe the dems weren't running on wokeness but the repubs were definitely campaigning against it.
The dems ran exclusively on woke non- issues and most people are sick of woke, seeing it as a mere affectation, a pretense at empathy from people trying to over-compensate for how inhuman they really are.
And they have allowed it to reach a cultural boiling point without even addressing it. Similar to almost every other issue…
Right, but you can see in Jon’s examples that Democrats pushed back on those positions. We live in a post-truth society; it didn’t really matter what Democrats said. People were fed up, and Trump was telling them what they wanted to hear.
Sometimes actions speak louder than words
Exactly
This is how it’s supposed to be done! And how it was done! Bravo Jon! This was great 👍🏼
The reaction to Mika reading the whole Op-Ed on camera 😂
Nobody was too woke, especially Merrick Garland
Jon is one of few threads woven through the decades that has held my sanity together over the years.
He was gone for 9 years. Were you sane then?
Thank you Jon, this is the best I've felt for a week. Love to you all from Britain.

Anyone who believed it was close was partaking in wishful thinking. Im Mexican and many of my family members that could not imagine voting for Trump in 2016, were all-in on him this time. The culture war stuff alone got them at least being open to hearing what he had to say, gas prices and food prices was the tiny push they needed.
@@tarbosh917dude its over. why tf you are still crying?
You voted for someone who hates you and your people. Just wait..it will be the biggest regret of your life. First generation immigrants that are from other places did the same thing. It's self entitlement and pure ignorance.
@@tarbosh917 Right, CA really throws a wrench -- they could call the election with certainty early Wednesday morning because all the relevant states had counted enough, and yet one state with more people than PA, GA, and MI combined hasn't counted much.
@tarbosh917 woooooow!! Really bro??
And then using California of all states as way to nail your point home?? People like ypu are why Dems lost. Completely obli house to the pulse of the nation.
I am relieved Jon is gunna keep doing this for a while longer, because there needs to be a voice in all of this we can trust to be honest with us no matter what while not crushing every last ounce of hope we might be holding onto.
He lies a lot but ok.
Why does JS use a stage name?
The way things have gone downhill and continue to stay downhill means we will need this voice for basically forever.
@@Blaisem😂😂😂 Lighten up, things are going to be fine.
Where is Jon Stewart???? HE is one of the best talk show host. He speaks the TRUTH. PUT HIM BACK ON
If volunteers are paid for knocking on doors, then they are not volunteers.
if voters are paid, is this any more honorable?
It's unrealistic to even imagine that in this day and age anyone but the wealthy could afford to volunteer to do anything at all.
Umm sir, they don’t get paid to knock on doors. The campaign pays for hotels for a lot of volunteers. I signed up to knock doors in Michigan. I paid to travel to Chicago to meet up with a group and then they paid to bus us to Michigan, this was a group of people from all over the mid west, and then paid for our hotel rooms and getting us back to Chicago. I didn’t make any money, I just didn’t have to spend money to volunteer
If Trump commits voter fraud it's not voter fraud

okay but again... no one ran on trans rights or wokeness....
@@shadow_td They've been low key pushing that stuff for years; then as soon as Harris gets in (they drop all of it) and pretend they don't know anything lol

Campaigning with the Cheney’s was definitely a nail in the coffin
I’m so surprised more people aren’t pointing this out. It was hilarious watching Harris brag about it. Like dude… the Cheneys were hated by the right and left like 5 minutes ago.
It’s weird to me that everyone saw that as joining the dark side rather than what it was….an alpha conservative coming out and saying that Trump was so bad they support the Democrat.
Agreed. Like who thinks getting a warmongering senior citizen and his trump obsessed daughter is a winning strategy
Exactly!
Being on team Cheney destroyed so many campaign arguments they had. You're not supposed to show in real time that it's all just an act.
But CNN told me she lost because "she was too liberal" 🤣
SHE wasn't too liberal, but her and other democrats didn't even bother to try and distance themselves from the most extreme 1% of their party. Likely, for fear of that loud 1% then trying to cancel them on social media. The democrat party was held hostage by the very cancel culture they helped to foster.
The CEO of CNN just announced that he's a huge trump supporter, and was glad that he won, as he's best for the wealthy.
Why are you laughing? Don't you watch Jon because you're a Bernie Boi?? Weird.
Deal with it. Republicans won the popular vote for the first time in 20 years because it was too late to hop off the insanity. You all let the country get flooded and deluded and nobody believes you now when you switch.
Man they just don't get it. She lost votes from liberals.
Too liberal, too centric, too right leaning, I've heard it all
And Minnesota only went for Mondale because it was literally his home state, and he only won it by 0.28 points. It was pretty much a 50-to-0 sweep
And Reagan also generally avoided campaigning in Minnesota because he felt like it’d be rude to take Mondale’s home state away from him.
I still remember Carson joking that Reagan was dismantling Minnesota tree by tree when the official White House Christmas tree came from here one year. Despite how close it was, we were still the North Star.
Reagan supporters were also a cult. Tons of people with pensions lost them. All because Reagan was a hero....in film!! 😂😂. But at least he wasn't a fascist.
Mondale also won Washington DC, although it's not a state and not much of a consolation.

Need to laugh, but there is a lot of truth in all of this and we need to learn the cold hard truths.
@ I agree, hope the Dems learned something. I voted orange, and yes I understand I'm in minority here. America wants change. I'm not loyal to a party. Especially one that's not loyal to US. Which I feel is the message most were trying to send by voting red.
For Republicans too. Stewart's comedic schtick transcends politics. It's almost genius what he does.
