It's important that even the pretense of it is entirely gone. The ideal that no one was above the law was imprinted on our American self-identity, even if not in fact. Despite the sheer openness of Trump flouting the law, politicians and the media were either gleefully cheering him on or afraid to stand up to him. The American public made a conscious choice to side with wealth and power. Where in the past the system was rigged against the common man, we could all agree at least in principle that it shouldn't be. That's no longer the case and clever people will exploit that sentiment to the extreme before (or even if!) voters wake up to what's happened. By then, as Devin said, it will take decades to get back to baseline.
Banning vaccines actually scares the hell out of me. I knew a man growing up that had polio as a child. He was an amazing man. Separation of church and state is nowhere in the constitution. It's literally a myth. You're a fool if you think the beliefs of the people don't influence government.
@hamisyummers8664 Most policies need to be based on a philosophy, and therefore are bordering on many religious ideas already. It's impossible not to have religious overtones to law, (either theist or secular humanist) because our worldview shapes our metaphysical view of morality. Yet the pope is not governing, nor is the protestant church, nor any other governing church body. Rather certain values are being brought forth from a Christian worldview and enshrined into law. This is not a church telling you you must believe in Jesus, but a simple moral rule, no different than the laws against manslaughter and murder. I'm not condoning anything in project 2025, I still dont really understand what it is yet, but it seems to me that a church needs to be in government for it to be a fusing of church and state. I believe most of the founding Father's wrote the constitution entirely from a theistic worldview, making it seem like they defined church and state differently than we do today.
I love when people bring this up, but they have no understanding of the history or meaning of the phrase. Can you tell me what part of the Constitution includes the phrase 'separation of church and state', or any variant thereof? Go on, I'll wait. While I'm waiting, I'll proceed by enlightening you on what that phrase *actually* means. It's a warning against the government interfering in the affairs of the church (using that in the broad sense, not in regards to a particular denomination), not the other way around. No, we do not have state sponsored/run churches - though many colonies did have them prior to the ratification of the Constitution, and even for many decades after - but that doesn't mean the church has no say in the affairs of government. Just a little history lesson for you. Oh, and if you haven't figured it out by now, that phrase exists absolutely nowhere in the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration or Independence, or any other founding document. It was penned in a letter by Thomas Jefferson, and he was talking about protecting churches from the government, not the other way around.
As a Brit, who's judges are required to be completely separate from politics to ensure impartiality, the fact that US judges, and particularly those in the Supreme Court, are politically aligned will never cease to BAFFLE me. The vast majority of these, and many other, legal issues would be solved it judges were impartial and not put in place by presidents and political parties. It will never make sense to me.
British legal system is one crazy house and lot worse than American. Fair political US appointment is 100 times better than European so called non political 90% leftist appointment.
Our supreme court was SUPPOSED to be impartial. Unfortunately we’ve discovered over this last decade just how much of our government was running on the presumption of integrity.
The idea behind them serving for life is to allow them to make decisions without worrying about politics, the problem comes from the fact that it is the current administration that appoints them rather than an independent group. Also they are so above the law that Justice Thomas can just take bribes and special vacations and cant be prosecuted
Your argument is invalid and they never said anything about stopping a mother's abortion if it risks her life. The law states that casual abortion is not allowed if the baby is over 15 weeks. Majority of abortions do not happen because of your reason. In fact, most abortions happen because of what's called Irresponsibility. We are living in an age where people can willing do the dirty without feeling guilty for killing another living person such as ourselves today. You're not advocating for any justice dude. Trump can't even fully take away abortions, that's not his role nor would the house let it happen. But keep letting fake media tell you he's Hitler okay? You were a fetus once, so why take the chance of life you had away from innocent kids? You realize that child birth related deaths are less common than they used to be right? In fact, because of c sections, most women can survive nowadays. There's even a study claiming women are getting smaller down there because of the introduction of c sections, which is also an issue cause later down the line, women will have no choice but to have c sections. And before you say the c section is a form of abortion, go back to school. Abortion is straight up murder of an innocent life, c sections are to help both parties in the birthing situation. If you see videos of how abortion actually works, you'll be surprised if how inhumane it actually is

Probably be even more difficult as economic asylum (aka can't afford to stay alive) is generally given far less consideration than political asylum (explicitly persecuted by the government or other powerful organization). But if they could find a country willing to accept their claim, it would likely be faster.
While becoming a citizen in a country takes years, just moving there will give you the same rates the governments pays for visits and medicines. Like how US tourists will pay them same/less than they currently would pay in the US if they have a heart attack in France/England/Germany/wherever My suggestion, if you don't have a highly desirable skillset like IT or medicine, is to find countries with working visa programs with the US that aren't just for young adults, use one to get you and your family *there*, and make the connections to get a longer work visa. I've never felt so disconnected from the American populous before. i can understand Trump winning the electoral college, but winning the popular vote tells me that i am so far removed from how most other Americans really feel. When he beat Hillary i was completely shocked. i remember women crying at the office when i went to work the day after the '16 election. This time when i went to work, nobody was crying, ppl were just pissed off & angry.
Don't forget the amount of voter suppression in this country. A lot of people like to pretend people not voting is them being lazy and not state's making voting so difficult is wasn't worth the hassle or just too difficult. Then throw in the fact that it is super easy to get a felony and have your rights taken away. Biden won the 2020 election and 37 states passed laws making it even harder to vote all while Trump and the Republican party continued to bend and break every law and rule they could to make sure Democrats would never win again. That needs to be taken into account when speaking on people not voting.

JD Vance's 'let people with pre-existing conditions pay higher premiums' is exactly the problem in the first place. Insurance companies have always been able to do that if they wanted to. They did this for his first term and the relationships wasn't as irreperably damaged as we feared it might be during 4 years of Trump. However, the political landscape has changed in europe as well and the first political leaders are already softening their stance on Trump at a rapid pace, because NATO (and with it all our litteral survival) is dependant upon a narcissistic, hypocritical, lying windbag who changes his opinions and moods more often than his underwear. I will not forgive the US electorate for what will happen in the next four years (and honestly, probably beyond - because there is no reason why he should stop to follow Hitlers plan of ascension to power to the letter NOW of all times... next will be "emergency powers" because of a random "national emergency" that will allow him to "postpone" the presidential election)
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you speaking up about this. I cannot tell you how much it means to me to have someone normal and educated telling people how bad this will be. People need a wake up call!
So Remember how the great depression was the only time in America where there's more emigration than immigration? Yeah...thats gonna need to be updated.
Problem is, most of the people who are targeted by Trump's stated goals are people who would find it difficult to impossible to legally emigrate - people with disabilities, for example, are hugely roadblocked or disqualified from emigrating to most countries (especially ones with the infrastructure to actually see that they get the care they need), especially because having a serious disability makes it much more difficult to have a qualification for a desired skill. Even if you have a desired skill, it's possible that you'll be knocked back on the basis of your disability or the disability of a family member who would be coming with you. This is also true for people with 'pre-existing medical conditions' that require medical intervention, medicinal or otherwise.
Oh but "those are the people that other countries DON'T want!!" ... literally arguments I've heard. Given that Trump has threatened his political opponents with imprisonment, or other punishments, that is very good reason to leave the country. That's a President willing to abuse his power to benefit himself.

Which, yes, I recognize is very naive, but that's why I beleive that people, good people, with kindness and empathy for their neighbor, no matter their differences, will be the life rafts that people hold on to in the crisis that will inevitably happen. Now, it's very easy for me to think that way, because as I said, I'm Canadian, so I won't be experiencing this firsthand. But even if all I can do is love and support my friends most affected by this, I'll do that for as long as this takes.
If a fetus is a person, does it have squatter's rights on the mother's uterus? Or does the mother have the right to evict the fetus? And if not, could that be considered quartering?
Not sure, but we should be able report fetuses on the census and take tax credits for them. Also, incarceration of a pregnant female will violate the civil rights of the fetus.

I can't wait until they find out that pre-existing conditions are such things as allergies, a history of depression, and being overweight. These are all things I was denied for when trying to get insurance privately before the ACA.
My husband has a blood clotting disease he inherited from his father. The medicate he needs to take for the rest of his life is hundreds of dollars a month without insurance. I am really worried about losing his prescription coverage. We cannot afford to buy it out of pocket, it's like $700! So many people will die, or be too ill to work anymore, or go poor buying life saving medications. This is not good for the economy or the country!
I've been a poll worker for over 25 years. You wouldn't believe all the low-information and haven't voted in years people I processed at the polls this election. For example: We show the names of the electors under each presidential candidate. A man called me over and asked me "who are these people (under DJTs name) and I said "they are the electors" He said I"m not voting for them!" I said that's how the system works" And he said "the system sucks!" as angrily filled in the dot from Trump. I had to be nice (as poll worker) but in my head I wanted to say "you clearly need a civics lesson".
He probably does need a civics lesson, but to be fair a lot of people on both sides of the aisle agree with him that "the [electoral college] system sucks!" Devin just did a video about "How to get rid of the electoral college".

When I took my driver's test to get my license, there were certain things known as "automatic fails". If you did them during the test then you failed automatically despite being perfect elsewhere, such as if you hit the curb while parallel parking. Hit the curb while parallel parking = no driver's license. There need to be "automatic fails" in place for positions within the 3 branches of the federal government that prevent certain people from gaining the levers of power. Like if a Supreme Court nominee lays an egg on a basic 1st amendment question during the confirmation hearing, they don't get to be a Supreme Court Justice. You incite a riot with the attempt to disrupt the transfer of power and have "fake electors" willing to certify things at your direction that they know are false, then you do not get to be President.
The concept of giving so much decision-making power to one person is baffling to me. People criticize the kings and monarchy of old, but functionally it feels like we just changed the titles and how they get on the throne.
You need to educate yourself on the phrase "checks and balances". I understand it doesn't always work the way it should but idk where you are getting this emperor idea from
Nope. We all knew they were going to at least try to do it all. The question here is how much of it they'll actually be able to get done. Let's hope it's less not more.
Don't just expect people with pre-existing conditions to pay more, but also to die because they can't afford it or are considered "uninsurable". I had end-stage kidney disease at 14 that the doctors think was caused by a genetic issue that causes the kidneys to start shutting down from birth. So more like "have always existed with" as opposed to pre-existing. I thankfully have insurance through work and have had a transplant, but that's no guarantee. Losing the ACA terrifies me.
That was the entire point of the ACA. The mandate for everyone to have insurance meant that the costs of pre-existing conditions and otherwise-uninsurable patients could be offset by the premiums of everyone else. Now that there's no longer a mandate, and with Trump gunning for it, it seems like the ACA will assuredly vanish.
I live in a blue state and am strongly considering starting a petition to ask our newly elected democratic governor to enshrine in law the protections for people with pre-existing conditions. This part of the ACA is extremely popular. I dont know if you live in a blue state but similarly to how many states are adding state level abortion protections, we should do the same to protect people with pre-existing conditions.
Crazy thing is, I definitely remember stories pre-ACA of babies being denied insurance because they were born with some sort of congenital condition. And of course those things tend to be reaaallly expensive. I'm actually of a group that could theoretically see my premiums go down if the ACA is repealed, but... giving up the pre-existing requirement would not be worth it. I'd like to say people who voted for this don't remember what that was like before, but.... GenX definitely is old enough to remember.

If a religious organization gets a say in government, then we have lost the seperation of church and state...churches need to start paying taxes.
Thats not separation of church and state. Its a protection against the church being the ruling government.
Separation of church and state is nowhere in the constitution. It's literally a myth. You're a fool if you think the beliefs of the people don't influence government.
@@malpercio123 Yeah... So if you're governing solely based on religious beliefs... what does that tell you?
If trump was a dictator, you know damn well he would've been dealt with quicker than the media portay the lies about him.

Even if you have a desired skill, it's possible that you'll be knocked back on the basis of your disability or the disability of a family member who would be coming with you. This is also true for people with 'pre-existing medical conditions' that require medical intervention, medicinal or otherwise.

I’m actually exhausted with how much disbelief I’ve had. It shakes my faith in humanity that because the economy is hard, Americans elected a billionaire criminal who will crush the rights of women and minorities and won’t even fix the economy.
Did you forget how many stayed home? Its not a majority that decided. Its a vocal and active minority. The majority dont see anyone worth showing up for. Get an FDR and that may change.
all stats show the economy is doing well. what people complain about is high prices and i don't see him combating that at all.
@ronblack7870 I feel like "the economy is doing well" is a kind of misrepresentation of the situation. Yes, the economy is doing well...but we don't really measure how our economy is doing by how the average person is doing, not anymore. The main thing that drives that statement is investment and employment rates.
But the average person is seeing reductions in their rights as "labor," income growth is being FAR outstripped by inflation, the poorest are struggling harder and the wealthy saw massive growth to their wealth.
If you're billionaire, the economy is awesome; if you work for a living the economy is crushing you.
Not that I think Trump will, or even can, fix it. Just that when politicians and pundits talk about "The Economy," they aren't really talking about the same thing we are.
@sorejack too bad you have no idea how much worse it will get if Trump does his crazy plans. Tariffs and tax cuts will cause inflation to skyrocket. Your economic situation is about to get worse if he gets his way.

Sorry for rambling here, but I wanted to share my thoughts on this - keep in mind that I'm Canadian.
The best way I can describe what's happening, at least from my perspective, is that the US has turned into a Wonderland, (straight from Alice and Wonderland, because it's so bizarre,) for Trump supporters. My hypothesis is that, much like Alice, a whole bunch of them are going to eventually come to the realization that it is NOT, in fact, everything they ever wanted.
Now, because I ALSO beleive that everyone, no matter how mistaken their beliefs, no matter how deep down it is, has the capability to be a good person with empathy.

That's really unfortunate, my dad doesn't realize how a contraception ban is going to affect me, someone with severe endometriosis and PCOS, his insurance covers my pills he knows I need them and yet he still voted for the only dictator to ever wear mismatched bronzer. I hope you can get through these next few years safely
@@radschele1815How could he? Poor baby has bone spurs :(
I really hate how the presidency has become an integral part of the culture war. It used to be about boring policies, but now it's this grandiose culture war position.
It’s to keep people divided and distracted so they don’t even think about protesting the real oppressors who are the rich 1%.
I love it.. makes people care more about what they never knew they were losing
This is why the government needs to be shrunk. All of DC is too powerful and they have treaded on the rights of every single American.
Shouldn't be a culture war to begin with. You want a healthy democracy and informed citizens. Not sudden frenzied chaos.
@kenlen8029 Exactly
If they give "personhood" to embryos, women who don't want to bear children should start to sue their own foetuses for slavery or assault. Judges would get flooded with stupid law suits.
The fact that Trump nominated a sex trafficker as Attorney General just shows exactly how little he cares about anyone and anything, and how little regard he has for the rule of law.
The law only matters to the lawful.
Was gaetz convicted?
@@zachenglish3952 He was going to be. GOP stopped it.
to democrats "under investigation" means "he is guilty because republican " , to be honest only idiots with 0 knowledge of law would watch legal eagle
@@Hugh839 yeah OJ was gonna be convicted but the jury stopped it…see how that doesn’t make sense
lol I love the tongue-in-cheek "did you know" about tariffs, because so many people voting for Trump have no idea what a tariff is
Pretty sure I was taught in grade school tariffs are why we went to war with England and became our own country
And apparently you have no clue about US history. 😂
@dapperbunch5029 OK buddy. Calm down. If you want to drop some knowledge , please do. Otherwise P off.
@@harvyt257 Excellent:
1. America’s economy has basically been under tariffs for most of its history. It wasn’t until FDR that America became far more focused on free trade. Tariffs allowed for very little taxation on the American people and for a great industrial base.
2. We actually need tariffs. America has become a backward nation in the realm of production. It is practically necessary to enact these reforms before total reliance is on other nations.
3. I am not saying there won’t be a pinch (and it’s going to be one hell of a pinch) but if we don’t centralize our industry then things will be much worse.
I don’t want to be shining the shoes of the Arabs and Chinese thank you very much.
Edit: Also the whole reason the British are now a second rate power is because of free trade and a refusal to adopt tariffs to keep out American imports.
@dapperbunch5029 a pinch is all millions of Americans need to be homeless. How about instead of putting tariffs on goods real Americans need every day, we tax the rich finally and make these corporations pay their fair share.
But hey I appreciate the reply
The solution is obvious though. Don't provide the federal government any support where possible, make each step they want to take as difficult and costly as possible. Meanwhile support your local community as well as you can to be as independent as possible from federal influence. Trump wants to run the country like a business? Then make his business fail and take control of the local things in your life that you can control and improve upon those.
This I can get behind.
Got any recommendations on how to just not give money to the fed gov?
@@WednesdayTheClove you're never going to avoid everything, unless tax avoidance is done at such a massive scale that the fed can't keep up (and tax workers, law enforcement, etc. should actually work as inefficient as possible to sabotage the system from within). But given that that is unlikely to happen (even the worst autocrats manage to get their share of taxes), you'll just have to minimise whatever you owe to the fed. Use cash, buy and sell local, buy and sell on the black market, and become self reliant where possible (as an individual and as a community).
@WednesdayTheClove There are options. They will make your life harder- are you able to commit to being poor? Because it involves quitting your job and not paying your taxes.
General strike. Grow your local communities. Learn about mutual aid. The government never wanted to save us, now it's just bold-faced. We have to save each other.
Did you know Trump even toyed with the idea of getting rid of the IRS?
