Yeah, I don't know where she would have ended up going with that line of conversation, whether it's pushing gender 'norms', putting a kid on the spot, the kids parent on the spot, or whatever. Glad that Celine just nipped that in the bud with justified anger.
This is exactly what I have been thinking about today. Nothing is really funny anymore and only about gender, pronouns or depending on which side you are on about how everbody non-lgbt is a bad person or how lgbt people are literally the devil here to destroy society. Very exhausting and not funny.
She keeps using the word "mean" because it's a much more digestible word than "abusive". And it's not just her employees. Her late ex girlfriend Anne Heche said that Ellen tried to keep her isolated and told her that she didn't "want a girlfriend who needs friends". She's always been this way.
My jaw dropped when I saw the clips of Ellen making Mariah Carey drink the champagne and what she did to the audience member that took more than one item off the merch table. And all the other clips of her being "kind"
I'm sick of people using their "cancellation" as their redemption arc... Like they are sooo brave and heroic for not giving up when everyone wants them to for very valid reasons.
If I were her I would’ve completely ignored the drama altogether and just dropped the comedy special without even mentioning it. Reminding people why they hate you is never a good idea.
It's like people saying people were trying to cancel Dave Chappelle 😂😂. This dude walked away from a huge deal years ago and when he came back, he still had a fanbase, plus new viewers (like me, I only heard of him in 2022, despite seeing him in Nutty professor 😅). How can trans people cancel him 😂? These people are literally the least populous demographic. "I'm rich, bish", even if he's kicked out of show biz, he'll be fine 🤦🏾♀️. It's poor people like us being mad on their behalf that's the craziest thing 😮
Sure Ellen, it’s the gender roles. That’s what it is. That’s what it was when you tried to goad Mariah Carey into announcing her pregnancy too early. Or every experience with Dakota Johnson. Or slut shaming Taylor Swift. Or making fun of Sofia Vergara’s accent. All classic things that women get blamed for all the time.
women are hateful in general. I was raised by my father my mom died when I was a kid. Im over it. Im an adult now who happens to work around other women what a fucking headache, and I a woman lol.
As an autistic person, the 'everyone's on the spectrum' thing is incredibly frustrating. It's not a spectrum of 'not autistic' to 'autistic. It's more a case of 'if you are autistic, there is a spectrum of behaviours, experiences and support needs'
Every autistic person I've worked or been friends with are NEVER mean. They work extremely hard at relationships and work and would die if they thought they had offended someone. Ellen was sooo wrong to say this.
@@claireconolly8355 Thank you. I know a LOT of autistic people, and we're all just trying our best (not to say that autistic people never suck, we're all human and some humans are just garbage, but it's absolutely not an excuse for that). Usually, if we upset or offend people, it's because we've missed nonverbal cues and/or talked about a topic we didn't know was inappropriate. The fact she used it as a shield for criticism is so frustrating, because the vast majority of us get the third degree for so much more minor things and nobody cuts us a break
@@claireconolly8355there are plenty of autistic people that suck.. but that's because there are plenty of people that suck in general! we are not at all immune to being shitty (because we are just human beings), but it's also definitely not a defining factor of being autistic. For some people, part of their social struggles is not understanding cues of when other people think you've said something rude or offensive. Sure that's true, but not every autistic person struggles with that very much. Usually it is also not intentional, people are taught that honesty is the best policy but the only people who seem to really take that to heart are occasionally children, and autistic people who tend to take things literally and at face value.
As someone who's most likely not autistic, I also hate it. Like, no?? I am not also "part of the spectrum", I don't live my life with any difficulties from being discriminated against, having society push you down, having your own body stop you. Why are we treating autism like this? It's not just a little bit of spice that everyone has, it's a lot more than that, and when people say this it feels so wrong, like my existence is being used to tell autistic people to toughen up or whatever else.
Hear hear!! :D Though I wonder what would happen if some crew member pranked her back. Probably the two of them would have a really good laugh, and create a fun work day for all! (not)
I genuinely hoped she was gonna say "I can see how that was wrong" instead of "I can see how that was misinterpreted" like girl you're full on victim blaming 😭😭😭
I remember a clip making the rounds from her show where she had a member of her crew go through a haunted house for their Halloween show. It was funny the first few seconds, until I realized the intern or whatever had a legit phobia about horror movies and Ellen made her do this anyway. Then I just felt like an accomplice and couldn't finish it.
This is precisely how parents of adult children who have gone no contact, respond. They won't tell you the details of what their child actually told them, and will fixate on generalized terminology that self victimizes, and repeat it over and over.
@@annacobb1140 yeah honestly everybody can do what they want but this celebrity bias has got to stop. her audience is allowed to dislike her and choose to not interact, her employees can publicly shame her, and the narrative around her shouldn't be "comeback" but "disgraced comedian in her flop era fails at dramatic self-victimizing return"

The way Ellen talks about getting "kicked out of showbiz" makes me think of a mom whose kids went no contact with her bc of her abuse, who then goes and tells her friends "my kids ABANDONED me because they think I'm MEAN 😢".
That is 100% I think where so much of her abusive behavior is sorted, in that same kind of passive aggressive tone that a lot of women perfect because they want to straight up be aggressive but women aren't allowed to do that
That's my mother. Even though she wants us to be honest with her..the moment we are she's the worst mom ever and is yelling?! Say whaaa? 😂 And totally Ellen! 😂❤
My favorite prank is these guys who, when stopped at a red light, gesture to the person next to them to roll their window down and then when the person does, they just roll their own window back up. It’s stupid and silly and everyone laughs then goes about their day
as someone who has diagnosed autism, yes it is weird for her to say that. especially for someone who has adhd and ocd, she should understand that those things are genuinely hard to live with. i hope that makes sense. it’s kind of like her saying “we all have issues so yours aren’t that bad”
I also have diagnosed autism, and it is so weird for her to say that. You either have autism or you don't. You're only on the spectrum if you are autistic, so everyone is indeed not a little bit autistic. *Insert exasperated sigh*

that clip of taylor swift literally screaming at ellen to stop always catches me off guard even when i know it's coming. i don't even like taylor swift but in that moment, she feels like a kid that's just completely overwhelmed and overstimulated. like why would you ever do that to someone ever??? ellen is so insensitive and rude
she was a kid being slut shamed by a much older woman. let's point THAT out. ellen was actively slut shaming taylor with her supposed "many boyfriends" (half which weren't even someone she dated, just someone she'd been casually friends with), which let to taylor to cry and beg for ellen to stop. people forget how fuckin HORRIBLE the slut shaming towards taylor was.
If I felt my words were at all leading someone to react that negatively even if I didn't get why, I'd back off. Like you said, it felt like she regressed into an overstimulated child, and that's not a knock on her because doing that to someone asking you to stop in front of the whole world is not polite conversation. I felt guilty and I wasn't there.
As a psychiatrist, people self-diagnosing OCD makes my teeth itch. OCD Is very often a destructive, debilitating illness. It’s not cute or cool. It’s extremely painful to the sufferers. Not treating it seriously is very distressing to me.
Right? And it sucks because I know those “Omg Imm so OCD I line up my pens on my desk hahaha” types would probably be weirded out if they heard the intrusive thoughts that come with OCD. Like it’s a disorder, it’s not fun to have

On top of everything else, we actually don't need more climate scientists. Because we already have solutions for everything. Solutions that politicians refuse to implement. We already have the answers, they just don't benefit shareholders so corporations and governments are choosing to let us slowly ruin the only planet we have to live on. Yay capitalism! 😬
You're right about her autism comment. It's invalidating and NOT what it means when we say autism is a spectrum. It means that autism manifests in all sorts of ways in autistic people. It does NOT mean that everyone is a little autistic. Allistic people (non-autistic) can experience some of the same things, but it doesn't effect them in the same way if that makes sense?
exactly what i was thinking! it just sounds so much like people trivializing neurodivergency as just a quirky part of life, makes me think of when it was commonplace to say things like "don't we all have OCD sometimes"
i think she's trying to claim that she has a neurodivergent brain bc she has ocd and add but used the term 'on the spectrum' when I don't think that's ever been used for being neurodivergent
i agree it was a really out of place comment there. she doesnt have any sort of comprehension, just saw 'spectrum' and thought of a 'funny' bit to make out of it
@@museofthedamned you're right. "On the spectrum" is used in reference to specifically autism. She may be neurodivergent, but (as she admitted) she's not autistic. I agree that she just wanted to make a joke about it without really knowing what she's talking about.
Ellen was wrong for saying that; please don't take it to heart. The autistic people I know are honest, earnest, and generous - I'd never associate "cruel" with autism.
Mmhmm! I have an ex who came across as rude/insensitive and he was learned to be autistic later. It was the special interests, unique problem solving, and little details that I found freaking adorable and brought the thought towards autism, not the insensitivity. The insensitivity pointed to a severe level of childhood neglect. As soon as I explained how something might impact someone else he was immediately empathetic and worked on being more sensitive and regularly checked in with me on how someone might be feeling if he wasn't sure. He was not a cruel person and didn't enjoy people being in terror. And so kind to animals, we still maintain shared pets. This comment on Ellen's part was so inappropriate. She wants a get out of mistreating others free card and that is NOT what autism is. And I'm pissed at her for acting like that is what autism is. 😤🙄 This attitude is pissing horrifying.
Exactly! Ellen has never been a girly girl or very feminine in terms of how she dresses-and that’s fine because that’s her preference-, yet she thinks it ok to question a boy with long hair?
Right? Everyone judged me, also, let me judge you and your kid. I would have said, if he were a girl would you ask me that question? Boys can have long hair, Ellen.
As a medical neuroscience grad student, you will NEVER hear any of us saying people studying animal behavior, no matter what that is, should quit and do something else. Let alone a whole other science field. Ellen isn't just disrespectful, she's clueless. Thanks for the support D'Angelo, we appreciate you
Holy fuck _and_ she miscarried after? I wish cancel culture was real. The fact Ellen can come back and make millions on a stand up special is so busted.

as an autistic person, I'm gonna need all autistics and non-autistics alike to stop talking about a literal disability as if it's just "bad social skills" or "low IQ."
Hey king! Autistic viewer here. To answer your question: yes, the "everyone's a little autistic" claim is not only scientifically untrue but incredibly invalidating. I find it especially terrible as someone who was socialized as female (i'm afab nonbinary, she/her) because women+ have a harder time getting an accurate diagnosis due to sexism. Even now, as someone who has a professional diagnosis, I receive disbelief and even straight up denial of my disorder because I "don't look" autistic. If ellen's claim were true, that EVERYONE's a little autistic, then how could one not LOOK autistic? And also no, even when people know you're autistic, they don't brush off certain 'bad' behavior as "part of it;" if anything I feel I'm more harshly scrutinized. Hope this helps! Love the videos
That clip with Taylor is heartbreaking. She was about to full-on break down. The clip with Mariah is frustrating. There's a *reason* women keep health information to themselves (pregnancy is included in that). It's no one's business and Mariah *did not* owe Ellen or the world an explanation. The clip with Justin is violating. He was still a kid FFS! I already thought Celine was a badass. Now I respect her that much more. Same with Dakota Johnson.
Lolol ok I am sure not on ELLEN’s side here, but RELAX. TS is Fine. TRUST ME, she DOES NOT mind people speculating that she has dated every single guy, she loves it. She’s made a career of it. If people aren’t constantly talking about Taylor, she’ll die.
@@stevielove4778 except she (TS) literally said million timed that it did bother her and she hated this narration and the slut shaming when in reality she dated like 10 people in the span of many years. I am on the spectrum. Yeah it was kinda weird. Maybe it was out of context, but it felt like she was saying “oh maybe I’m mean because I’m autistic”. Like, can we maybe stop conflating the two and spreading the idea that autistic people are mean? Or trying to using it as an excuse? We’re useless with social cues, not actively malicious. And if you’re gonna joke about autism, at least make it funny!
It's a ploy to make people feel sorry for her -- that life is just, factually, harder for her because she's neurodiverse. Therefore she doesn't have to take responsibility for her ethics or choices
The funny thing is, Ellen has likely figured out how to parse and deal with neurotypical behavior given how far she's made it in comedy, TV, movies, etc., which means in her case she likely knows pretty well what behavior is considered rude/mean but actively chooses to ignore that knowledge. That is not an autistic trait. That is an Ellen trait
but also, being bad at communication also shouldn't automatically mean you have autism. like let's stop trying to get diagnosed with something so people can excuse their shitty behaviour away instead of taking accountability for it. People have real struggles and so many are trivializing it all because they think being neuro diverse is a get out of jail free card.
As an autistic person I can’t stand it when people say “everyone is on the spectrum” or “everyone is a little autistic”. If that was true, we would live in a sensory friendly, quiet and understanding world which was adapted to prevent autistic people from being overwhelmed by the sensory hell that is outside.
Besides Dakota Johnson’s iconic call out, another clip I’ve seen is Ellen grilling the members of the kpop group SuperM and asking them to reveal if they are dating anyone (which is a whole thing with kpop, dating is basically banned) and one of the members, Mark, just goes “why do you care”. There are obviously worse instances like what you showed in the video but her being so pushy was so infuriating
yeah she pulled some shit with BTS too, including having a screaming woman run past them, as if they haven't had awful problems getting mobbed by overzealous "fans"
i'd go search that clip up now cuz mark is my bias, but i dont wanna give ellen's yt channel my money LMAOOO. another fave of mine is when Priyanka Chopra called Ellen out for NOT SHOWING UP TO HER WEDDING DESPITE BEING INVITED
Her "old, gay and Mean" comment reminded me of some ppl who feel like, cuz they're in marginalized communities, they're allowed to be mean. I think Ellen is one of those ppl
plus it's so counterproductive to imply that the criticism she's rightfully been facing is similar to homophobia or ageism (especially towards women). like those are two real issues and being mean is just her being a bad person ...
Finding out about this side of her made me so sad. Her old stand up shows were really funny and she was one of my favorite comedians for a long time. But I haven't been able to watch her for years because all the shit that's come out just makes her so off-putting to me now.
As a lesbian myself, I'm so over the "mean lesbian" stereotype that some of us feel compelled to embody. Like I get that it comes from a rejection of patriarchal and hetero norms that women should be sweet and submissive but some of y'all really use it as a shield to avoid taking accountability for treating people badly.
Using someone's phobia as a joke is beyond mean, it's sadistic. I am ichtyophobic, if my boss were to put fake realistic fish on me, I'd faint. Then I'd sue the pants off of them.
i have a friend who's aracnophobic, and one day someone thought crawling their fingers on him pretending it was a spider was going to be funny. he had a panic attack that took him several minutes to calm down. also, as a psychology major, phobias are no joke. i take them very seriously.
It's just like if you tricked someone with peanut allergy into eating a nut. You know they are going to have a strong adverse reaction and decide to provoke it on purpose.
as someone with trypophobia (fear of organised clusters of small holes or bumps -- ridiculous, I know, but the existential panic reaction is very real) when I tell people, their favourite activity is to show me pictures to witness my reaction. and it's like thank you, very funny, it's gonna haunt me for the rest of the day as I walk around in a state of itchy distress
"I was kicked out for being mean" no, honey, you were kicked out for lacking empathy and being objectively cruel and dismissive when you were presenting yourself as the epitome of sweet kind giving loving individuals.

Ellen said Kathy was too mean to Gwyneth Paltrow......Kathy's mean bc she's making jokes of Gwyneth but you're 'nice' telling your employees not to look at you? really shows how much Ellen values celebrity.
Being a strong woman is great but being an abusive ash hole is NOT being a strong woman. Ellen insisting on outing Mariah Carrey's pregnancy and making her drink champagne was absolutely disgusting. The reason why Mariah didn't want to disclose the pregnancy? Because it was early in the pregnancy. Guess what, she lost it a few weeks later.
As an autistic person one of my big bug bears is 'autism spectrum' stuff. Spectrum is like a spectrum of colours. Sometimes what you're talking about isn't a colour at all, like discussing the thickness of paper or something. Autism spectrum DOES NOT MEAN IT GOES FROM MOST TO LEAST AUTISTIC. It goes from red to violet. Autistic people are on a spectrum, not people as a whole are on the autism spectrum.
While I agree that the current use of “on the spectrum” isn’t accurate or the best term to use, the color spectrum goes from invisible light waves that are Ultraviolet, through visible color, and to other invisible light waves that are infrared. These light waves to us are effectively colorless, so the color spectrum does include colorless in it. As it currently is, the autism spectrum is from allistic to high support needs autistic. This is my TL;DR but I put it first because idk I just did Part of why saying “on the spectrum” isnt as much of a thing anymore though is because “spectrum” as a term refers to a sort of scale between two extremes. The idea behind “on the spectrum” was that the spectrum in question would be from “a little autistic” to “very autistic” which isn’t how it works, but also, if that is the way you frame it, should include allistic people as well to include the extreme and fit the definition. The spectrum of asd is moving towards being a way to describe the level of support needs a person has while acknowledging that there is a vast range of different presentations of autism, but it still isn’t the best fit as a name for an autism diagnosis since it’s not even a disorder; it’s a neurodevelopmental difference.
The way my mouth dropped when she said she’s a strong woman. Strength is watching your mouth, doing the right thing even when it’s hard, and apologizing when you’re wrong.
I'm on the spectrum, and I don't appreciate "Everyone's a little autistic" anymore than I appreciate "Everyone has a little ADHD" or "Everyone's a little bit gay." No. Stop. No one forced her to do any of these things. I'm sure many of us have had worse bosses; but they are not in the public eye like Ellen was.
I'm autistic, I got professionally diagnosed at 15 and I would explain autism as less of a spectrum between "very autistic" and "not autistic" and more of like, two different operating systems. Your brain works differently and you either are or you aren't using that system. Of course some autistic people will have higher or lower support needs, and some people will have an easier or harder time "acting" or "masking" as neurotypical/allistic, it's still not a single line of less autistic to more autistic. All this to say, we are not "all on the spectrum" it just doesn't work like that.
i’m autistic too, tbh i agree with this. there IS a spectrum, but you’re either autistic or not autistic. there’s a marked difference between neurotypical thinking and social ability and neurodivergence; there’s a spectrum but it begins somewhere and that somewhere is distinct from neurotypicality.
@@maraque16my preferred nomenclature is present in the OP we're replying to: high vs low support needs. I have low support needs ("high functioning") versus my son who has high support needs ("low functioning")

I'm so glad that you did this ! 1- her "Game of Games" show looks so much like the bully of the school putting classmates through physical and psychological ridicule in front of everybody. And you are so right about pranks ! It IS all about making the prankster laugh, not the person on the receiving end. 2 - when you listen to the "laughter" and "clapping" during this "humour" bit, you can hear that both often happen out of sync, much too soon for the punchline ; you can also hear that both laughter and clapping are suspiciously uniform in frequency/intensity and "equalised", at these moments ; I would say with great certainty that a good part of "audience reaction" was prerecorded in case of awkward silences. 3 - her body language during that bit clearly demonstrate that she couldn't care less about the audience in front of her. 4 - That is a "poor me, everybody hates me for no good reason, just because I'm a woman... etc " exercise.

Also, and this isn't that relevant, but you could make a similar joke, but not offensive. Just have it be 'well, not on *that* spectrum', and depending on tone, maybe workshop wording and build-up, I think you could have a joke there

LITERALLY. And she was just taking something for her friend who couldn't be there. It probably cost Ellen not even $5 for someone to take extra. She sounded like she thought she was god when she lectured/humiliated that poor woman. I still don't understand the point of that. Why alienate your own audience on purpose?
It’s a puny point in the video but as a scientist, my eye is twitching. If you don’t understand science, “chicken dreams” sound useless. If you do understand science, you understand that learning how processes work in an animal model helps humans to understand more about ourselves. It teaches us what’s similar, what’s different, and may even help us understand a process or a concept in a more simplistic way that was harder to understand whilst studying it in humans. I know it’s a freaking joke, but it is ridiculously unintelligent and ignorant to just assume that all the top scientists are working on just that and that it’s useless science.
6:04 but like.,,, it wasn't that she was mean that people hated. It was that she built her career on supposedly being nice. That the kind person she pretended to be wasn't who she really was. She didn't practice what she preached, THAT'S why people turned on her.

"we're all on the spectrum" and "we're all a little autistic/ADHD" are comments I hear very frequently as an autistic person, and they're very often said to minimalize the struggles of neurodivergent people by making it seem like autism or other neurodivergencies aren’t a big deal. I'm not saying this was Ellen's intention, but it's still a weird and wildly inaccurate thing to say. Not only that, it's a mindset that can greatly set back progress for accommodations for neurodivergent people. Comparing a regular amount of forgetfulness that every person has to the frequent forgetfulness (sometimes with severe consequences) of a person with ADHD minimalizes the very pressing struggles they face every day. This type of mindset leads many people to believe that accommodations aren't necessary because "everyone forgets things sometimes", so why should some people get medication/therapy/special learning plans for it? Again, I know Ellen wasn't using it in that context, but it's still an insensitive, inaccurate, and damaging notion that I and many other neurodivergent people are sick of hearing.
If we got a nickel for every time we hear "we're all a little autistic!," we'd have a stable life instead of needing to spend years fighting for SSDI lmao
I think it's something I find fundamentally frustrating about "the spectrum" metaphor. its not a spectrum from "not autistic ----> most autistic," instead, the autism "spectrum" is a diverse *spectrum of symptoms* that are all specific *to autism,* but may not necessarily be experienced by *everyone with* autism. I think this is largely the fault of the organizations that want to "raise awareness" about autism and their own public communications, which get diluted and mischaracterized the more it gets telephoned, even within the mental health field.
Im also autistic and fully agree it’s so frustrating It’s “everyone’s on the spectrum” until I get written up at work for “not being a team player” because I wasn’t being “social enough”

I think the point of the spectrum joke wasn't to say that every one has a bit of autism, but more of a play on the word, spectrum. That people who aren't autistic are still, well, on a "spectrum" of people who are and aren't. That's how I interpreted it at least.
Ugh, same here. On the spectrum means you are on the spectrum.... OF AUTISM. You have to literally be born with it, I'm Autistic too and I cringe whenever I hear people saying "we're all a little Autistic :)" No.
Seeing those clips of Mariah Carey and T.Swift makes Ellen look like the white version of Wendy Williams; invasive, humiliating, and gossiping about online rumors
Although I'd agree there is a double standard, the difference between Ellen and James also lies in the fact that Ellen was the "lets be nice to each other" host, as for James most people could tell he was a prick from the start...
That Taylor Swift reaction was not comedic omg the people laughing wtf??? None of that was comedic that was 100% her hurting. Also poor Mariah she’s laughing yes but she’d doing that because she knows that Ellen is so beloved that she can’t put her in her place on a live audience tv taping💀

she is also a possible creep considering she allegedly dated a 17 year old which if true less than 2 shits how she feels. If not, then i feel different.
the autistic spectrum is not a line of non-autistic to "extremely autistic". usually it's a wheel made to represent various autistic traits of *autistic* people, because each autistic person is unique in way their autism presents itself. for example, i'm usually pretty good with eye contact, but i'm bad talking, and someone else that's autistic can be the opposite. there's no one way to be autistic. also refering to people more or less autistic is problematic because if a person has autism, they're automatically autistic. a lot of us that learned to hide their autistic traits when we're young and may not act stereotypically autistic had our needs and accommodations ignored because we're not "autistic enough." also x2, the whole reason the distinction between different subtypes of autism (classic autism, Asperger's, pdd-nos) has been erased in DSM-V and replaced with autism spectrum disorder was because researchers came to conclusion that doctors couldn't really separate between them and there were people that have been diagnosed with aspergers instead of classic autism when they matched the previous diagnostic criteria for classic autism more because of the stigma associated with being "more autistic" i'm not even going to touch ellen implying she got tested for autism because she's an honest person (read abusive) because i'm tired
I also find it a bit icky that she even brought up the whole 'maybe I'm just autistic haha no I'm actually not' thing in the first place after joking around about how mean she is. Like she was somehow trying to justify being mean with being autistic, since I've found that's a bit of a common misconception people have. (I know she said she doesn't have it but it's the set up that just really puts me off as an autistic person myself.)
also as a gay person, who's so quick to use gender stereotypes to defend herself, her shaming a little boy with long hair sure is SOMETHING
Yeah, I don't know where she would have ended up going with that line of conversation, whether it's pushing gender 'norms', putting a kid on the spot, the kids parent on the spot, or whatever. Glad that Celine just nipped that in the bud with justified anger.

I've been wondering if I'm neurodivergent or just depressed. I have so many issues 🤦🏾♀️. I'll still never just say I'm a little autistic because I've not been diagnosed. And I'm so sick of people trying to generalize pain just to diminish how someone is feeling. It's like when my only sibling (brother 😢) died at 17 and my aunt (of all people 🤦🏾♀️) told me that everyone has lost someone because I dared to cry 2 months later 😮😮😮😮
I think people are taught that phrase as a way to relate to/understand autistic people better. I roll my eyes when I hear it but I also don't think it is indicative of a moral failing in the person who says it.
@@tamiausten873It's possible that your 'depression' is Major Depression, or another illness that causes Major Depression symptoms. No matter what, sounds like you've been traumatized and in grief.

That's exactly how it came across to me too. I'm so tired of people trying to use autism or mental issues as an excuse for there shitty behaviour
People have real struggles and so many are trivializing it all because they think being neuro diverse is a get out of jail free card.
after this attempt at comeback doesn’t work out watch Elen to come out as autistic in 3,2,1
As an autistic person I can’t stand it when people say “everyone is on the spectrum” or “everyone is a little autistic”.
This was the comment I was looking for. 👑
It's a spectrum of symptoms, not percentages.
That's a great description.
wow, TIL! thanks for the explanation
This is my TL;DR but I put it first because idk I just did
Part of why saying “on the spectrum” isnt as much of a thing anymore though is because “spectrum” as a term refers to a sort of scale between two extremes.

I'm here like "You may mean the internet definition, but objectively speaking, 34/35 people are not in fact autistic"

It's just too bad she didn't get evaluated for ASPD instead, I have a funny feeling that one might have stuck.
24:00 Drew Gooden had the funniest reaction to this. "Boy have long hair? That's not right. Boy have short hair, girl have long hair... Oh, wait"
I remember that. I genuinely laughed out loud.
SO ridiculous. Imagine being Ellen, a person who has defied gender-presentation norms for most of her entire career, and making a stand about a child having hair to their shoulders. ((I MEAN IMAGINE ANYONE DOING this it is SO none of her business))
Immediately think of that every time I see the clip. Like how was Ellen so oblivious to the irony?😭
i am SO enrolled right now
Based name and pfp btw. And that is now a sentence in my vocabulary that means "invested". Thank you for your service 😂🩵
@@lils6407 it’s my honor 🫡
The pfp enhances this comment so much 😂
"I was hoping I'd be able to blame my behavior on autism, but it turns out I'm not autistic. Wait, if I use the "everyone's a little autistic" line, maybe I can blame my behavior on autism anyway" -Ellen's thought process, probably
(thanks for calling out the bs of this, D'Angelo)
lol
And like I said that whole thing also implies all of us autistics are mean
@@kaydwessie296 Well it is very mean of us to tell her she's not autistic after she's said she doesn't have autism /s
That isn’t what she’s saying, if you watch the whole joke she’s joking about the phrase spectrum and how she’s on the “not autistic” part of it.
5:44 also, climate change is still a problem not because scientists are not studying it hard enough. Scientists already came up with solutions to it.
I'm sorry. I know this, but I'm old enough to know this; That parking break joke was just an old joke. She used to use it in her old 90s stand-up.
Reusing jokes after 30+ years may be excusable but not when there was a 30 year gap 😭
I might be dumb, but what does it even mean lol the break is super useful
Yikes. Reusing jokes from the 90s feels desperate, particularly in this context
she complains about ageism then recycles content from 30 years ago like maybe instead of complaining that people think youre too old for this you could *write better material to prove them wrong*
@itsmj3103 idk do you drive a manual? I'm assuming Ellen and anyone who laugh at that joke only drive automatics
Netflix really has some explaining to do. Giving specials to Matt Rife or Ellen when people like Josh Johnson are out there killing it is insane!
Josh Johnson doesn't need Netflix. He's killing it on his own, and he writes for The Daily Show
I think Netflix is showing it's true colors. they are supporting these people because they agree with them.
Josh Johnson is actually crazy talented. I have zero attention span, and last night I watched him do an hour and a half on the Diddy/50 Cent beef. the man is just riveting to listen to, whether he's telling jokes or just talking.
@@peachy_lili I listened while I worked last night and when it was over I was confused bcus it didnt feel like it was that long! He's so good!
@@peachy_liliI went into it intending to put it down halfway through so I could do some studying and I ended up watching the whole thing without realising. His standup has a way of sucking you in and it’s seriously impressive
autistic viewer and yes, you are absolutely right to feel grossed out by the 'everyones on the spectrum' jokes bc 1) that is not how autism works (its a spectrum of different social, sensory, learning and motor needs, not a spectrum of 'most to least' - which would be a line and not a spectrum but i digress). and 2) people saying that is usually used to disparage and reduce the struggles of autistic people. banger video as always, hope ur having a good day :D
I just wanted to thank you for being a super cool, level-headed, down to earth human being. Been watching you from the beginning and you never let your ego get the best of you. Kudos to your parents for raising a proper gentleman, as well. ❤
Same logic: awww no one wants to be my friend because my favorite color is green, I like carrots, and I'm racist! Like HMMMM I WONDER WHAT IT IS
💀💀💀
Green you sicko? GREEN!
I could never befriend a person like that. Will they expect me to eat carrots too??
Why is Netflix so determined to amplify toxicity
And they go around to cancel iconic series like dead boy detectives and other queer rep that’s not toxic 💔
I guess ragebait earns more money than subscription plans
Haye watching.
I have free Netflix from Tmobile and i can’t remember the last time I watched anything on Netflix
@@byronlee991017 you are probably 100 percent correct tbh
icb Ellen said "they hate me bc I'm a strong woman" the same week Uglies and 143 dropped... 2010s feminism is back, baby
Oh no... I don't need this, I don't want this...
They made Uglies into a movie?? How wtf
@@harashe1000protect yourself. don’t look it up💀
Bruh 😂😂
@@harashe1000 Yup, but wouldn't recommend look it up
Thank you for doing this video. I had seen her special on Netflix but I was not about to give her my view so thank you for informing me how bad it was without having to give her my money, so to speak. That part with the 1 min standing ovation kind of reminded me of a clip from a Scientology gala where they just applauded for like five min and it was required like they had to....I wonder like do we need to check on the audience do we know if they where there of their own free will?
I’m diagnosed with autism- you’re right D’Angelo it is considered quite offensive to say all people are on the spectrum because then autism simply would not exist and we wouldn’t feel alienated constantly in our daily lives.
Yeah. I'm fine with NT people relating to my experiences here and there because I'm all for fostering mutual understanding and shit, but that phrase is just not it. Especially since they only say it when they want to excuse some crappy behavior or to dismiss us when we're inconvenient.
Exactly!!!
@@LittleMissLounge"Oh you're not different, everyone feels that way sometimes. Anyway, stop acting like that."
@@ND-nr6mxexactly. it's just used as a form of erasure and dismissal a lot of the time. it's their way of justifying their ableist beliefs that you are inherently less than for not functioning in the same way they do. so they just take away your "excuse" to function differently and make it into a character flaw. everyone else struggles with some of these things sometimes, what's your big issue. type of thing.
I think Netflix is genuinely starting to use ragebait as part of their marketing formula now.
I’m surprised they don’t have a tab just called “Rageflix”
Starting??!
Pretty explicitly, yes
I meannnnn, the mere existence of Love is Blind on Netflix is all I need to confirm this as true😂
Starting?
My heart breaks for Mariah. I know people who have had infertility, pregnancy loss, and infant loss. I myself have had 3 very early miscarriages.
It is a VERY personal decision when to reveal a pregnancy.
Gone for four years and I didn’t even notice. Hopefully, she’s gone for good.
I hate her using her marginalizations as excuses for her behavior.
Yeah, I'm not saying it's easy to be publically queer now or anything, but easier than the 90s, and it probably isn't that hard when you're super rich, like, what is anyone going to do to you. You're in Disney movies. You're fine.
Yes please make her stop ..
That clip of Taylor is worse within the context of the time. 2012-13 was really bad in terms of online hate for her, largely due to ppl judging her dating history, so if she had walked out during the interview, she would’ve gotten dragged online. But staying meant she had to deal with Ellen’s bs. So shitty all around.
And the Mariah clip makes me so sad every time.
And she's 23. Like. Let's not forget how young that is.
You're so right, I completely forgot that Taylor went through that over a decade ago
she is also a possible creep considering she allegedly dated a 17 year old which if true less than 2 shits how she feels. If not, then i feel different.
Ellen was essentially calling Taylor a slut in front of a live studio audience and trying to get her to participate in it.
Taylor and Zac Efron once played a song to Ellen about how every time they come on the show it's really weird because Ellen insists they're dating 💀
the autistic spectrum is not a line of non-autistic to "extremely autistic". usually it's a wheel made to represent various autistic traits of *autistic* people, because each autistic person is unique in way their autism presents itself. for example, i'm usually pretty good with eye contact, but i'm bad talking, and someone else that's autistic can be the opposite. there's no one way to be autistic.
also refering to people more or less autistic is problematic because if a person has autism, they're automatically autistic. a lot of us that learned to hide their autistic traits when we're young and may not act stereotypically autistic had our needs and accommodations ignored because we're not "autistic enough."
also x2, the whole reason the distinction between different subtypes of autism (classic autism, Asperger's, pdd-nos) has been erased in DSM-V and replaced with autism spectrum disorder was because researchers came to conclusion that doctors couldn't really separate between them and there were people that have been diagnosed with aspergers instead of classic autism when they matched the previous diagnostic criteria for classic autism more because of the stigma associated with being "more autistic"
i'm not even going to touch ellen implying she got tested for autism because she's an honest person (read abusive) because i'm tired
I love how you cracked on the "She IS kinda brave though, because lowkey, why did you come ba- hehehe"
I'm not a Taylor Swift fan or defender, but holy shit that sucked, I can't imagine humiliating a TWENTY-THREE YEAR OLD like that
This was during the heyday of giving Taylor shit for anything, and supporting Kanye's sexual harassment and dehumanizing of her too.
That Mariah clip is extra disgusting because of all the awful stuff that came after. That poor woman
Agreed
