We once mentioned a vet appointment at the house and my dog whimpered and started shaking and tried to hide, and it wasn't even for him, it was for the cat. We ended up getting a vet who did house calls which made a HUGE difference in our dog's emotional state, he was so much more calm being in his own home (he actually ended up enjoying seeing her enter the house b/c he knew he was going to get more attention), not having to have that anxiety drive, the vet fawned over him the whole time and the "treats" he got throughout his evaluation (that they normally do) were his actual favorite treats because they were from home, it cost only it little bit more, but it saved him so much less anxiety and us having to deal with getting him in the car and attempting to get him into the vet (sometimes they would do a quick check-up on the cat for free since they were there, which was nice)
I'd like to add that the additional expense is VERY worth it when needing to have a pet put to sleep. I've been through both scenarios many times and the potential trauma spared on you both is worth so much.
lol I know, my 5 year old dachshund Stitch is the same when we take to the vet for his bath and health checkups, he plays dead and trembles its so funny and cute I feel bad for him , like I always tell him "the vet is not a monster, its gonna be ok, I'll give a treat when you get back home with me", thqn he is relax and feels better every time I say it
@@danieladelcastillolocatell5839 I never had a dog, but when I had to take my cat to the vet to get her teeth cleaned she wouldn't stop crying. Since it was a pretty late appointment and we were the only ones in the lobby I took her out and set her on my lap and she calmed down after a few pets and hugs. OK - so the craziest thing my vet tech told me was that animals (esp. dogs) can smell death inside AND outside of the vets office because of the pets that are euthanized. Their terror is real and there's a real reason for it!
It’s very true. You see the same absolute terror on dogs at shelters a lot of times when they’re being taken home. They think they’re going to be killed. They know what happens, they can not only smell it, they can sense it on the humans that work there too. Human moods change when an animal is put down. Even vets who have been doing it a long time (I know many large animal vets who still cry every time a horse is put down). They’ve even had to take steps to counter this with cadaver dogs even. Between the realization that what they find each time is a dead human, and the reaction to that in their handlers, they’ve started to remove dogs and handlers from the scene well before they begin to recover the bodies. Otherwise most cadaver dogs will become depressed. Dogs are extremely sensitive to death - dog death especially, but any kind of death. I’ve been around animals my whole life, and dogs understand it better than any other species. Most animals have visceral, evolutionarily conditioned fear when they smell it - you see it in horses especially. But dogs have a deep understanding of death being what it is - final, tragic, usually painful. It’s heartbreaking.
Normally we would never go to vet's road so as soon as we turn to that road my cocker instantly realizes we are going to vet and starts shaking lol. I also have to carry her always, she hugs the road like her life depends on it😂
My dog _loved_ going to the vet. She loved to see all the people there. (The other animals there, not so much.) After one visit I went to pick her up, as the aide brought her out to me she slipped out of her collar and ran back in to say goodbye to everybody.
i hardly afraid of dentist because once you experience toothache you would see dentist as angel send by heaven. and im kinda lucky never enter hospital all in my life and get treat there.
Oh they read our minds. My french bulldog is always happy and ready to go out for a walk... She's the first one on the door while getting the leash. For some reason when it's vet time she's hiding somewhere in the house and won't even come out even if we're silent about it 😂
My Staffordshire Bull Terrier absolutely loves going to the vet. She has no fears and even when she is in the car on our way to the vet, she gets all excited when she recognises landmarks along the way and realises where we are going. The vet is her happy place!

My whippet is terrified of the vet; on the other hand, my Parson’s JRT loves going to see the vet. She will pull to go in and try to visit everyone in there, and doesn’t want to leave. She’s had the requisite spay and later a very painful knee surgery, but that hasn’t deterred her love off the attention she gets there. I think it makes them love her so I feel ok leadvng her with them because she gives them sweetness overload.
The only time my dog showed this kind of extreme reaction to a vet, I changed the vet. Turns out, he used to hit and hurt the dogs. Big scandal in the city. So, people, listen to your pets. Sometimes, there is a real reason for their fear.
I understand too. I've avoided the doctor since the early 80's. I'm 70 and still healthy. One reason I don't trust doctors, ME PERSONALLY, is because, to make a long story short, our local hospital diagnosed my husband with carpal tunnel syndrome and it turned out. . . . after consulting a nutritionist later that he had Lyme Disease. CBD cured him of his horrible joint pain.
My English never complained going to the vet, he understood it was for his own good, he had several surgeries but finally he passed away because he was just too old. we were sad we had to put him into permanent sleep but his life's quality was lost so we decided.
